From the author of Fates Aflame and Dark Diary, comes a brand new standalone bursting with the vibrancy and mystery of Ancient Egypt. A skillfully crafted, clever adaptation of the lore behind one of the most powerful gods in ancient history. Exile of the Sky God propels readers through a mythical journey of self discovery with revelations even a god could not see coming.
P. ANASTASIA'S fresh take on storytelling resonates with darkness, charm, and passion--the embodiment of her unique writing style. Ensnared by the craft in childhood, she attempted her first book at age eleven. While working toward her college degree, she wrote news and editorial columns for two campus newspapers. After graduating with a degree in communications and spending a year studying abroad in Kofu, Japan, she followed her heart to her publishing aspirations. On the side, she serves as a professional voice talent for radio, television, and audio books. P. Anastasia is the author of nine novels: Exile of the Sky God, the Fluorescence series, Fates Aflame, Fates Awoken, and the historical-paranormal romances, Dark Diary & Grave Burden.
She firmly believes being a writer is not about writing what you want, but writing what needs to be written and faithfully retelling the stories of your characters no matter how uncomfortable they may make you.
Exile of the Sky God, by P. Anastasia, is a gorgeous, romantic YA fantasy. Set in ancient Egypt, it is the coming-of-age story of Horus, the young Sky God. Anxious to gain his powers and place among the Gods, he longs to prove himself worthy to Ra, the King and ruler of the Gods. But Ra doesn't take kindly to a God who challenges him, and Horus soon finds that his ambition and creativity send him on a journey unlike anything he's experienced before.
With sweeping prose and detailed descriptions of life in ancient Egypt, this is a story that will delight fans of mythology, fantasy - and romance. For while the story begins as a quest for godly power, it ultimately becomes one of human experience and love. After Horus falls in love with the head priestess of Ra, he begins to understand humanity in ways that no other God has before. And when his father, Osiris - is attacked, his heart stolen by Set, the dark and dangerous God of the Underworld - Horus must make a choice between saving his father or relinquishing his powers forever to stay with the woman he loves.
Exile of the Sky God is a beautiful homage to that which is uniquely human - our emotions. It's also a fantastical story of magic and ancient mythology, and an account of what ancient Egyptian life may have been in a culture that followed a strict set of rules in their daily lives, revolving around strong beliefs in the Gods. Readers will no doubt fall for both Horus and his love, Zahra - and root for love to conquer all. They'll also be swept away into the action and intrigue of a story that features Gods who can take the forms of serpents and crocodiles, wear the heads of falcons and lions - and fly with shimmering wings. And they won't be disappointed in the story's beautiful, magical ending. But they will, undoubtedly, be left with Horus's story, and all its powerful images, glimmering in their hearts.

@kidlitexchange #partner Review—Exile of the Sky God by P. Anastasia. Releases June 4, 2019 by Jackal Moon Press. While I am intensely aquatinted with Percy Jackson and Greek gods, I had never read about Egyptian mythology, much less one actually set in ancient Egypt. Author P. Anastasia wastes no time in skillfully swooping us, the readers, into the kingdom of Ra, the noisy marketplaces, the hot landscape, and the cool reverence of the temple. When Horus the sky God, son of Osiris and Isis (centuries old, though he acts like an entitled millennial 😆), loses some of his power after knowingly displeasing the god Ra, he sets out to help the plights of mortals in order to gain favor and power back. Instead, the story takes some twists and turns you would never expect, and Horus finds himself in even deeper trouble—and in love. I want to talk about this book’s strongest aspect first and that is Horus himself. Truly, he is a good main character. He changes so much in such a believable way. He learns pain and heartbreak and love and joy and friendship. I genuinely rooted for him and that’s saying a lot from a person who doesn’t like mythology and prefers female characters. (But my own book has a male MC so explain that one 😆) We see Horus grow so much and I was so proud of him. Another positive aspect is the mythology itself. I knew one thing about Egyptian mythology, one—there’s a sun god named Ra. This book introduced me to so much more but I was never confused. It lets us slide into each new situation organically and introduces concepts one at a time. I can see kids learning a lot about Ancient Egypt and its gods through this book. Also, the climax. I loved it. Horus’s speech on page 257-259 was spectacular. It made me love the guy. Only when we are fully human ourselves can we take the burdens of other humans. It is a beautiful truth. Also, Bastet. I’m obsessed with her. I want a giant lion-cat-thing to come into my bedroom every morning and discuss life with me. I wanted to hug her furry neck. 🦁 🐱 Exile of the Sky God by P. Anastasia releases June 4th! Thank you @kidlitexchange and @fluorescentones for providing me with a review copy. All opinions are my own.
To clarify, this is a low three star. Like... this was SO CLOSE to being a two star except the redeeming qualities didn't let me give it a two. Starting with the positive stuff, this book was fun. I had a great time reading this. The characters were chill and cool, the setting was Egyptian and I love that. Honestly, this was an I VIBE WITH THIS book. Even the writing, though simple, wasn't bad. I would read more from this author. In terms of plotting, I wasn't a huge fan. The story fell rather flat at the end and I struggled to keep up with the messy mythology. Some things happened that made my mythological-loving heart shrivel up a little bit and that always brings my opinion down. Overall this was a fun time but not something I see myself rereading or recommending to other people.
You know...I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about this until the middle and my Mythology class came back to me. I remembered the story of Set and Osiris and even Horus as I was reading and thought ‘oh boy Mrs Steel would be cross with me for forgetting this’ but I remembered! And I read it in such a fun way! I love P. Anastasia’s writing style and all of her books (even she is amazing) and this is definitely one of my favorites.
