It Was Just Sex

Rate this book
Wives need a reason to cheat; husbands just need a place. This is the lesson 28-year old Cameron Poole learns from her philandering husband, Jake, who readily admits he’s not likely to win any Husband of the Year awards. The question Cameron must answer is now that she knows what Jake’s been up to, what’s she going to do about it? PRELIMINARY “If I ever catch my husband cheating on me, I’m calling Cameron Poole!” “Forget the tired, worn-out vigilante stories where a gang rapes and kills the hero’s wife, kills his kids and his dog, and the hero tracks them down one-by-one and murders them (yawn!) Locke’s latest novel is next-level revenge from the female cunning, diabolical, and delicious.” “Locke is such a prolific writer it seems like years since his last book. Thankfully, he’s back, and in excellent form. Sweet Cameron Poole is the nicest person ever. Until she isn’t.”

Sometimes I want to read something different, that has teeth, that might piss me off so bad that I want to kill the characters or throw my kindle, points one & two delivered, point three, lol and point four wasn't until the very end.
John Locke wrote this tongue in cheek look at how "It Was Just Sex" & It Meant Nothing" couldn't be further from the truth. Now as a woman scorned (me) I already knew there were consequences to affairs, but nothing like what's in this book. And I loved every warped part of it. Except the end. John Locke you should know better than to leave things up to a woman's imagination.

Meh. This story helped a couple of hours pass by. This is much more of a thriller than any other genre because it seems to be all about the action, with very little about the motivation. The main h's cheating husband sounded like a giant douche who she should have left a long time ago. There was a lot of disbelief to suspend here. Maybe my own ambivalence toward thrillers/suspense limited my enjoyment of this book? Anyhoo, this was another book I can cross off my list and never return to!

Meh, not necessarily predictable, but you knew who was orchestrating the chaos.

Eh, it’s a cheating story that handles a selfish guilt bought on from an impact to people’s lives that infidelity causes and how not everyone will go willingly into the night to lick their wounds but at the end of the day it’s really about bad people doing bad things and then worrying what the neighbours will think. It is what it is, but I agree with others that it went a little whack at about 85%. It’s like the ending and the rest of the story happened to two different groups of people with the same names.

Liked the author’s style and found his characters easy enough to read though, will look for more of his stuff sans the cheating aspect. I see why he’s popular; I thought I’d read a chapter or two at midnight and put it down for the night but I ended up devouring the whole book in two hour and if that doesn’t say something about the authors skills them I don’t know what will.

SHOCKED!! 😳

First Mr. Author Man, how DARE you end this story the way you did! I’m emotionally hurt by this! I need answers expeditiously! 😩😂 I need to know what ended up happening out of all the choices she said may happen!?

Lemme just say, I have NEVER read a book quite like this! It’s very refreshing to have the FMC be so calculating and vindictive and come out on top the way she did! The twists and turns throughout this book has me like WTF did I just read!? I LOVED every last thing about it. A cheating story with such a crazy setup behind it… smh it was BEYOND amazing! I gasped so many gasps LOL! I need to own this book!

OMG this was hysterical!

Okay, I don’t want to talk about the plot at all, because trust me, you want to go in blind. The major characters are Cameron Poole, wife of Jake the husband, the best friend Lara and her husband, Frank. There are a couple of secondary characters who play a significant role too.

This was hysterically funny, in my opinion. I recognize that it’s not supposed to be, but as soon as I figured out what was happening, I couldn’t stop laughing. Cameron is super smart, and she’s a fantastic planner. You may not find this as funny as I did, but you’ll definitely enjoy reading it anyway.

KU read, but this is really, really good. Enjoy!

It was rather morbid curiosity. Some twists and turns but as a reader I felt rather detached. The book wasn’t boring but neither very engaging.
I didn’t feel any real emotion because of the MCs.
They should be divorced long time ago. The story was too sic and twisted .
I didn’t feel much love in the beginning so I couldn’t feel much of betrayal to sympathize with the heroine. That made the revenge lose its appeal to me. The characters were disgusting and I didn’t feel good after reading this story.

I always look forward to John Locke's books. I've read every one - and there's a lot.
This one ranks at the bottom of the list.
I just didn't care for the characters or what was going on - if you could even follow it. So contrived.
The usual humor was woefully missing.
I was pleased when it was over.
I actually questioned several times through the book if this was the same author that I love so much.
So disappointed.

Yes, but the end.
Heroine has a cheating asshole of a husband that confesses to have had an affair for six months but now it’s over.
So she asks for help from her bff, that, of course, is the ow.
Well, I won’t spoil it, but let’s say she won’t come back with the cheater.
It’s a psychological thriller, mostly written in dialogues, so it’s similar to a script for a movie, I suppose. This is a kind of style that is often used nowadays and gives you no indications on the characters real feelings because you must be the one to find out what is real and what is fake.
Let’s say that I understood who was doing what after the first 20 pages of the book.
But it was nice until it wasn’t.
The end with a twist was not pertaining to the rest of the book.
When you write about psycho you must focus on one and not put too many psychos either the book loses credibility.

4.45 laughed my arse-off stars!
Yes, it's about betrayal& infidelity that occurs between her hubby and also married bff.
It has a feel of a domestic /thriller ish suspense , but with laughs. Our heroine, Cameron plays a bit of a long game against her cheating slim swiller hubby, Jake and her I Can Do Anything You Can Do Better bff, Lara.
My review won't do this book justice, so I won't even bother, but I will say I put this book off for awhile and wish I hadn't. It's a solidly good read and I very much enjoyed it.

Spoilerish:
It's not a romance, no HEAs here (had I known this and been prepared, I could have bumped it to a solid 5 cheaters books 📚 stars ), but alas I didn't and somewhat bitter, so 4.45 stars it is 😉. Still a damn good read though!

A book that's published in 2018

I love John Locke books. Can't help it. They are just fun and fast paced.

I will say that I was completely suspicious the entire time...and I was right! But after reading almost every John Locke book ever written, you start to catch on to his twists and turns.

These books are released for a dollar! They may not be classics but they are worth a dollar! I would gladly pay more because they are addicting. But I'm so glad he loves his avid readers enough to release these to us at a dollar. I dont even read what the book is about, I just buy it.

I finally got my husband addicted too.

Locke’d In

Oh John, you’ve done it again! I can’t wait until your next book comes out, then when it does I get it right away, then wait to read it because it lessens the wait between releases. This last one was great (it’s just sex). There’s always something there that you can’t quite see or that you figure out and feel so proud (and honestly a little concerned) to be on the same ‘obscure mental train’ as Mr. Locke. Fun ride but here’s a warning - get comfortable because once you start this one... you’ll read it all the way through!!

Disappointing

I was looking forward to reading this story after reading the sample. But it did not come close to my expectations. Ok prefer erotic romance literature. Reading the sample, I though it would meet my reading needs. I must admit I didn't read the whole story before I was too disappointed to continue. No description of sex occurred in the 1st 15 chapters. I read as far as I did waiting for something to happen. It never did.

Great characters, great story, brilliantly put together. Another classic John Locke, best in the business.

I always love reading one of John Locke's books. This is not one of my favorites. It took a long time to develop and was a copout ending. Disappointing. s

This is not one of my favorite John Locke books. The story was too long in development and the ending for me was a copout. I always look forward to John Locke books and await his newest book .

John Locke has a really great imagination to keep writhing with the detail that he does. I did not know where this book was going to go but, It did not go where I thought it would. I did not see the ending coming the way it turned out. I can not wait to read even more of his books.
Keep them coming.

That was a rollercoaster ride. Sometimes you just need a little crazy to liven up a rainy day. I do have to say I didn’t care for how it ended. The story just stopped. This is my first time reading this author, so if that is their style, I don’t care for it. I like to have closure at the end of a book.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am a fan but this story felt like a formula was being followed. Interesting story until the middle when the plot twists were made to fit a narrative and not a reasonable progression. The end was like eating a taco without the filling.

John Locke doesn't disappoint. Definitely a book you don't want to put down. Every chapter end, you want to keep going. Ending was slightly less than I was hoping, but all in all, I would recommend this book.

Terrible

This book was terrible. I wish I didn’t waste my money on it. It started out very interesting but by the middle, it starting making no sense. The ending was another very big disappointment. I would not waste a penny on this book.

Psycho crazy revenge story of cheating husband - plotting wife that takes some twists and turns. Controversial ending ( makes sense - makes no sense ?? ) . Fast-paced, but no substance beyond curiosity of where this nutso plot is going. No heroes in this story - and definitely not a romance!

Well…that was crazy. My only gripe is the ending. Really need to know what happened. My first book by this author and maybe it’s his thing but my poor feral mind is in a tizzy!
