Defying orders from the Empire and the Republic upon their return Nora and Frederick become fugitives. "Farah Cook was born in Denmark, in the land of the Vikings. She grew up in Copenhagen, and had a rich and highly imaginary childhood spending most of her time outdoors. At the age of twelve, she began writing several short stories to fuel her passion for storytelling. Farah graduated with a BA in Political Science from Lund University in Sweden and MA in Arts from London Metropolitan University. She has lived in many countries, including Germany and New Zealand, but settled in London where she worked as a marketing manager for large financial conglomerates.
Her passion for storytelling remained, and at night she started to write all the things she’d imagine, and her novel City of Skies is the first book in the Viking Assassin Series. Farah lives in Guildford, just outside London with her husband Christopher, and their two sons Benjamin and Noah. She speaks six languages fluently including Danish, Swedish and German and writes full-time while doing a course in Creative Writing at the University of Surrey."
City of Assassins is the third book in the Viking Assassin series and I must admit this has been my favourite book so far. I feel that Ms. Cook has gone from strength to strength with the writing of each book in this series. Finally Nora, Frederick and Mina arrive at the City of Vikings and Nora gets to meet her long lost father but she also gets to know certain things which turn out to be more than she had ever bargained for. Part two of the book I found to be extremely exciting, the world building is amazing as they travel back in time to five hundred years before visiting Arres which is a different land completely to the Viking lands Nora and Frederick have lived in. I love the very colourful Arabic feel to this land, the desert, souks and bazaars, the heat and yes even the wild assassins. The secret Nora’s father divulged could change everything for her and Frederick but it seems that their bond will withstand even this. Can they defeat the assassins and take what they came for and return to the Republic/Empire, their Home? This has been a very exciting series with this book topping the list for me as it grabbed my interest right from the start and held me enthralled to the end! Ms Cook has given us a grand finale with so much happening in this last book that it leaves the reader breathless especially towards the end of the book. The world tree Yggdrasil is such a beautiful concept with the nine worlds encompassed within her and Nora being the chosen one to bring about the peaceful unity of all creatures to live in Midgard. This was a book of hope and courage and a lot of trust especially between Nora and Frederick which sometimes wavered but love won out in the end. This was an exceptionally good series right from the start with book 3 being the cherry on the cake.
In this episode of the Viking series by Farah Cook there is a bit less action, but a very satisfying wrap up for the other books. The adventure expands through yet unseen worlds and introduces new characters.
Against all odds Nora, Frederick and Mina made it to the City of the Vikings, but Nora’s reunion with her father isn’t at all what she imagined. To start with she got to meet her sister, a sister she knew nothing about, a sister that was raised by their father, while she had spent her life without him.
That wasn’t the only shock in store for Nora. Even though the city supposedly treated all clans as equals, she and Frederick were forced to stay apart, each residing with their own clan. At least Mina and Frederick were together. Nora felt isolated and alone.
Instead of gaining access to the other Viking weapons, the trio faced another challenge before they could be found. The weapons were in the City of Assassins, a trek more of time than distance. To begin their journey, they first needed the key to the gate. Nora would have to fight her own sister in order to proceed.
Will Nora really have to fight her sister to the death? Can Nora and Frederick ever get possession of the weapons? What will happen if they do return to the City of Skies with them? Both have undertaken this journey against the decisions of their clans. Will Nora and Frederick ultimately be separated because of who they are or will they find a way to stay together?
I received an ARC copy of this book and I am very glad to have read it. It is a terrific conclusion to a great series. Nora and Fredrick have their hands full in this one.
I have really enjoyed this series and it has gone from strength to strength. Very strong characters and exciting story lines. The interaction between Nora and Frederick is well written and very believable. I've always enjoyed novels that involve Norse mythology. I would definitely recommend this book and the series.
Another wonderful book in this fantastic series. Nora and Frederick travel back five hundred years. Intriguing and shouldn’t be missed once it’s released.
I received this novel from Ms. Cook as an ARC. Thank you! This novel was a great read! The novel begins with Nora and Frederick in the City of Vikings. There Nora meets her father, the ruler of the city and her half-sister. Nora wants to gather the weapons and return to the Triangle. She wants to know why her father abandoned her and her mother. Her father reveals to her several things she did not know, and it changes her. Nora will have to fight her sister to get into the City of Assassins. The second part of the novel finds Nora and Frederick in the City of Assassins, which is 500 years into the past. Nora loses her memory, but knows she is an assassin. Frederick recognizes Nora, but she does not recognize him. He tries to help get her memory back, and eventually she does reclaim it. However, the assassins want the sword Nora carries and to use it with the other weapons to destroy the emperor. However, they need the weapons. By her 17th birthday, Yggdrasil, which is on Nora’s back, will leave her with a gift and knowledge that others will want to claim from her. They meet the rebels who are trying to stop the emperor and need Nora and Frederick’s help. This goes back to an alliance between the Garms and Goths, in which a Garm did not kill Nora because of the agreement. Nora and Frederick return to their time with the weapons. Nora has been gone a year and her world has changed greatly by war. The Empire and Republic are both after Nora and Frederick. Frederick tries to tell Nora about the evil that begins to consume a person when they use the weapons. Nora knows she needs to set the Nine Worlds free, even if she has to use the weapons to kill and save the people she cares most for.
Was this book the wait , too right it was & more . Surviving to find the city of the city of Vikings is the only the first hurdle , Nora , Frederick & Mina are split into their own factions & then there was the fact that not only was Nora's dad alive & well he had another daughter that he'd brought up all her life not abandoned like he did Nora & there was definitely no sign of sibling love , quite the opposite . This book ties up all the loose ends in the first two books but gives us so much more than that .The second part of the book is even more fantastic than the first , the city of Assassins is hidden by time but Nora finds it but loses part of herself , it seems like everyone has an agenda for her or wants a piece of her , the politics behind every single thought & decision is so confusing but at the same time makes sense , loved meeting up with the old favourites & so great new characters , Farah Cook has made a spell binding world that could go on & on , i for one won't be sorry if it did.
This story started with my tears for Nora at the way her father treated her. The loss of her dreams. The worry for her friends. And the stupidly of it all.
Everything Nora thought she knew and wanted and turned upside down. She has found her father but he’s not what she expected. And she certainly didn’t expect the other changes in her family. Then, just as she finds him, he’s gone and she’s back on another trip through a nightmare wonderland.
I do like how the changing of POV are labeled by chapter so they’re not confusing. Unfortunately though when their POV changed it meant repeated info. So I scanned a lot of it especially when they were rambling on about feelings and why things were, would and might happen. And if they were going to die!
Towards the end things start to make sense, mixed up, but sense. And the way it ended makes me wish there was a 4th book.
Fave scenes: trying to break through the roof, stopping them from cutting her hair, escaping & killing the Djangel and Frederick’s hideout.
Grabbed me from the start and wouldn’t let me go. This is Written very well in a unique way, although mostly through the eyes of Nora, and partly through the eyes of Frederick but very emotionally. Nora traveled to the City of Vikings to meet her dad and expected him to welcome her with open arms but finds something entirely different. The world building is fantastic in this book. This is a world of the ancient Vikings customs and Norse mythology. The action is breathtaking. Nora must fight in many different circumstances that it seems never ending. Other twists to the story become agonizing. What they must do to get the ancient weapons of the Vikings is perilous and unpredictable. Several plot twists will surprise you. Ms Cook’s writing style is like being under a hypnotic trance smooth as silk yet keeps you turning the pages until the last. This is a book I can highly recommend.
Farah Cook’s City of Assassins, fifth in her The Viking Assassin series, is simply superb. This series is getting ever more complex while still being filled with grip-your-sears thrilling action and adventure. It’s frankly a well written batch of pure fun to follow along this time as Nora and Fredrick travel in time to claim the assassin weapons, there will be loads of adventure, battles and thrills, and they’ll learns a lot about themselves as we readers enjoy the ride. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Wow what a book. I absolutely loved the drama and action in this first two books but they have nothing on this book. They go 500 years back in time which is definitely a challenge. Her father tells Nora many secrets. I definitely believe Nora and Frederick belong together and I'm glad they stick together against all odds. Their love could make it through anything. Heck Nora's heart already beats in Fredericks chest. This series keeps getting better and better. Fantastic book. Cannot wait for more.

I have waited for this last book for along time and have not been disappointed. Mystical and dangerous adventure does not stop but continues on with the next step within the story. Nora fights the spells and wickedness that abound in the story and she is awesome. Never disappointing you. Fredrick is so in love with Nora and will follow her even if he does not agree with some of her decisions. Both of them the love blossoms and stays in full bloom. What a wonderful Norse tale.
Nora and Frederick are at it again. This time they have to head 500 years into the past to get the weapons they have been searching for. But at what price?? I have loved this story since the very beginning and this was a great book. Fast paced and emotionally charged.
I liked most of the book, but the ending was very abrupt and I still don't really understand what happened. It just left me with questions - like what now? Is there another book because it didn't seem like a good ending.
I enjoyed this book as much as the others in this series. I hope there's at least one more that's more of a peaceful read! Nora and Frederick have been through a lot. I hope to find out more about Frederick and what his true heritage is. Nora needs a vacation!
I find this book in the series difficult. I had a hard time trying to finish it. The story was good, but not enough to keep me reading it non-stop. It took me awhile to finish this one.
I really enjoyed this book! Great characters, writing, dialog, action, and storyline! Farah is a good author! I definitely recommend checking this series out!
I enjoyed following Nora's journey through each book and the final conclusion was ad I hoped it would be. Great series if you love a Dystopian type story
As we dive into this third book, we know there’s going to be big revelations and lots of twists. This book was that and so much more. Nora and Frederick travel back in time to claim the assassin weapons. What they encounter is danger and adventure. Each chapter brings you ever closer to the edge of your seat while you wait to see what will happen next. I can’t get enough of Nora’s story and the love she and Frederick share in a crumbling and dark world. I highly recommend this series!
