Everyone is gathering at Peppa Pig's house for a family reunion!
It's time for Peppa's family to get together, and Grandpa and Granny Pig are the first to arrive. Once Auntie Pig, Uncle Pig, Cousin Chloe, and Baby Alexander show up, the whole family is there. Peppa wants to teach the baby how to speak, but all he says is "goo-goo." It's a little loud with so many people under one roof, but what matters is celebrating one another -- that's what family is all about.
Candlewick Press arrived on the scene with some of the highest-quality picture books anywhere. And in the years since then, our offerings have grown to encompass all ages, from board books to e-books, high-end novelty to cutting-edge fiction. What hasn't changed is our goal of excellence, our model of independence, and our commitment to the authors and illustrators who create our books and the readers who love them. Two decades and more than 2,000 awards and accolades later, we are as committed as ever to independent thinking and primed for a future that looks brighter than ever.
I know books like these modeled after successful children's IPs are usually of a certain quality, but the amount of fun I have reading these with my toddler can't be denied. I love doing a thick British accent and the stories are so light and fluffy we eat it up like angel food cake. Methinks this one is even better than the classic "Peppa Pig Goes Camping" book that reigned supreme for months now. This family reunion one is da' best!
It has a very deep and thoughtful meaning. This book is an adventure of Peppa teaching a baby their first words and when you are done reading this book it leaves you with many questions.
One of my questions after reading this is what have I done with my life.
If I could rate this less than 1 star I would. I hate Peppa Pig. The stories*generally* have no plot or problem or solution. This one ends with a baby's first word being "puddle"- unrealistic. I won't discourage a book though from my kids if it gets them interested in reading, so I am counting this as my final book to reach my EOY reading goal. I deserve it after sitting through this.
First sentence: Peppa and George are very excited. Today the Pig family is having a reunion! Everyone in the family will be there.
Premise/plot: Peppa Pig and George are excited about the family reunion: Grandpa Pig, Granny Pig, Uncle Pig, Auntie Pig, Cousin Chloe and Baby Alexander are coming to their house for a few days. Baby Alexander is VERY SMALL and VERY LOUD. He has not said his first word yet. Will Peppa be able to teach him one before the reunion is over?
My thoughts: I probably should be skeptical of books with no listed author or illustrator. It is also a book that is based on a popular television cartoon. But while both of those things are true, this is a picture book adaptation of one of the best episodes ever. I love, love, love, love Baby Alexander. This picture book captures the joy and silliness of the original episode.
I have personally noticed a big difference between the Peppa Pig books published by Candlewick and the Peppa Pig books published by Scholastic.

Peppa Pig and her family invite Grandpa, Grandma, Auntie, Uncle, Cousin Chloe, and Baby Alexander to their home for an overnight stay. They do various activities together including eating spaghetti and pie, putting on a puppet show, and jumping in mud puddles. Peppa is very attentive to Baby Alexander and tries to get him to eat by playing "airplane" and to say a word. Chloe's family differs from Peppa's family in that Chloe's family is a "very noisy family" and they shout, vacuum at night, and play the trumpet. This provides a great opportunity to discuss how families differ in various ways without saying that one is right and the other is wrong. The inside of the book jacket is a coloring page with the extended family watching the puppet show. This title is based on the television series and illustrates a warm and loving family. Recommended for preschool through second grade.
A recent publication but an adaptation of a story we've read previously about Baby Alexander having a very noisy family and Peppa helping him say his first word.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Just like an episode of Peppa, we see her family and get to meet her other relatives, cousins, Aunts, Uncles and baby Alexander. Peppa takes a special interest in Alexander and learns babies can be a bit of work. Just like in her shows, the best part of the day is jumping in the muddy puddles. That is when baby Alexander says his first word, which is "puddles!"
In spite of my strong dislike of the phallic shape of the characters' heads (did a child draw them???) I don't hate Peppa stories. My 3yo son loves them. I appreciated this one for addressing the tricky business of getting a baby to sleep as well as Peppa's charming attempts to kickstart Baby Alexander's language acquisition.
It's family reunion time, and the entire Pig family has arrived. Peppa spends most of her time in between eating pie, putting on a puppet show and jumping in muddy puddles, trying to teach baby Alexander to talk. But baby Alexander doesn't talk yet, but he sure does make a lot of noise.
A very simple story as most Peppa stories are. Children who love this show will enjoy this picture book. Peppa tries to teach Baby Alexander to speak and the results are very cute. Preschoolers would love this one.
Grade Range: K-2nd grade Genre: Modern Fantasy Review: I thought this was a cute book that could be used in the younger classrooms. I think that those students would find this book more interesting because it's something they watch on TV & already know the characters.
