Morgan Downs’ life is unexceptional. She’s stuck in an abusive loveless marriage and often made to feel inferior by her parents because of her speech impediment. Although as bad as her life is, she never expected to be kidnapped from her home and taken to a private military base to become a test rat for a science experiment. But things change when Morgan meets Alpha. She should be afraid, he isn’t quite human after all. Alpha is a genetically enhanced super soldier, and Morgan has been captured to bear his offspring. Yet, Morgan finds that Alpha isn’t the real monster behind those confined walls. They are both captives of the insane scientist, Dr. Ryder Strong. This book contains some graphic scenes of violent acts. Readers please be advised.

"Alpha" is one of my favorite IR sci-fi books. Alpha and Morgan were such endearing but flawed characters... but antagonist, Dr. Ryder Strong was a piece of work: delusional and evil times 2! And sister, Monroe and husband Trevor- WTH--- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

"Is love the word you use when you can't stop thinking about another person? When the sight or mention of that person makes you smile and calms the rage inside you. Is love the word you use, when not being with that person brings actual pain? Is it the feeling of floating when their eyes are on you, or when you feel their heartbeat or the touch of their skin? Is love the word you use when no matter what happens to you, you will risk everything you have, even your well thought out plans of freedom, for that one person?" -Alpha

I was so hoping that full stories would have been written about the other super soldiers in Montana by now too. Oh well, I can wish right!!

What a ride. This was crazy as hell and amazing as fuck! This was one of those books where I didn't know what the hell was gonna happen moment to moment, then finished and I just had to do an exhale. Once done I couldn't bring myself to read anything else for the whole next day. That rarely happens and is testament to how good this was. I highly recommend!

P.S.
This is dark. There is kidnapping, physical violence, forced experimentation, and rape. Mind your triggers. This is emotional.

Morgan has all the material things she could ever want but with disinterested unloving parents and a cruel and abusive husband that doesn’t value her worth at all her life is far from perfect.
Their treatment of her has most certainly impacted her self esteem rather badly impacted her sense of self-worth, she also has a speech impediment a stutter.
Kidnapped from her house by unknown assailants Morgan finds herself in a government breeding program for a race of alien lab-bred soldiers and she is not only the obsession of its foremost Alpha soldier but also the fixation of the doctor in charge.
The doctor here Dr Strong was completely wacko and living in his own little reality
Placing his own personal meanings on all of Morgan’s action and reactions.
Talk about obsessed he was bloody delusional what a complete and utter tool.
Alpha he was definitely the one in control of the other male subjects in the program.
Going as far as they naturally protected Morgan as there Alphas woman.
But I struggled to get a sense of him and I did feel the chemistry between Morgan and Alpha was slightly lacking.
There just wasn’t enough in-depth interaction between them both throughout this to have me convinced.
This was also unusual in the way it’s narrated, It’s actually told from Morgan and the nasty delusional doctors POV.
I would have really liked to get into Alphas head though and I would have preferred his POV rather than the doctors.
This definitely wasn’t my preferred mode of narration and I do think it would have been much better the other way around.
It was difficult sometimes to fully get a sense of Alpha without his first-hand input and I couldn’t really give two hoots about the doctor and his power plays.
It was Alpha I wanted to learn more about and he just wasn’t fleshed out enough for me to see him distinctly.
So the first half of this I definitely enjoyed more than the second, In fact, the second half was a bit of a hot mess at times, there was just too much going on with this.
I enjoyed this and it had some good ideas but leaving Alpha POV out of the mix here I think was a mistake.
Also, be aware this does deal with some dark themes like the Ashley story-line which I didn’t think was actually needed at all.
I also really appreciated the ending it gave me a huge sense of satisfaction to see Morgan’s family get what they deserve.
There were also some flow and timing issues that didn’t quite work for me and the finish was a tad rushed.
Taken as a whole this was an interesting read with equal positives and negatives that I mostly enjoyed.

I couldn't put this book down. Who'd have thunk it? Petri dish ... laboratory ... mad scientist ... government funding ... alien & human DNA ... experiments ... reluctant test subjects ... and Super Soldiers ... would add up to on the edge of my seat action-packed story! There were some mean, mean people in this story but they didn't fare too well when it was all said and done. It's all fun (not) and games until you piss off Super Soldiers. Revenge was indeed served very, very, very COLD and utterly satisfying.

Highly Recommended: READ IT!

Calling all my Goodreads friends and followers you must read this book!!!

This book was amazing!!! I have a new author to add to my favorite list and her name is Tiya Rayne. Hooked from page one I was freaking blown away reading. This book had me all up in my feels. I was so entertained and consumed with every character, I'm talking the good ones, the bad ones, and the freaking insanely delusional one. I would love for this book to become a movie or mini-series like on Netflix or HBO. Seriously this was written perfectly.
I loved and adored this story. It had all the goods; the action the smut; the devastation the surprising twist the couple you fight for the side characters you root for plus the villain you love to hate and of course the HEA that will have you sighing yourself to sleep!

Thank you, Ms Tiya Rayne, aka KC Connor I see you girrrrlll!
I love you for writing this perfectly and amazing story I sure hope there is a book two because I damn sure will be reading it.

Me looking for all the books you've written

Here's my couple... Happy Reading!

I’m not sure what to rate this book, I think somewhere between three and fours stars. Up until about 75% mark, I had my mind set that this was going to be a four star read for me. There were some small issues I had with the book but I still really enjoyed it. But then the ending was getting just too ridiculous for me (and usually I except quite a bit of ridiculousness when it comes to alien/sci-if romances) and it ruined it a bit.

I think an exclamation mark was used properly only once throughout this entire book. It pulled me out a bit bit again, very small issue. I also wished we got just a bit more between Aloha and Morgan as there are a lot of time jumps during time that they were together. I stead of seeing them, we got more POVs of the doctor. It got a little jumbled between what to focus on when we brought Ashley’s story into it. One of my pet peeves is wasting a story only to set up your next one but I saw the next one isn’t even about her so now I really don’t know how to feel about it.

I also think her entire family was way too OTT. Especially the ending, even if your parents don’t like you, I still think they would care a little bit? I know you can’t get mad when Sci-Fi books are a little far fetched but, I still expect the characters to be somewhat realistic in how they act. I don’t care if I can call plot twists if they are done well but, this one was also so OTT and just king of dumb and anyone could call it from a mile away.

I still enjoyed this book. I’m a sucker for a good, possessive alien and really enjoyed their romance.

As a science fiction-suspense story this is pretty good.

As a romance novel it is pretty damned frustrating.

The basic plot gives us a heroine, Morgan, with a whole host of problems. She is the less pretty sister of a striving wealthy political family. Her parents are rather unfeeling about her, her mother is a social climber who believes in noting but appearances, her father cares about nothing but his career, her sister is a gorgeous butterfly, her husband is an ambitious man who doesn't love and abuses her. she also has a stutter. Most people believe she is a bit slow and dimwitted because she does not speak a lot in public because of the stutter.

There is a super soldier project being funded by a shady arm of the government that apparently has billions of dollars to funnel to the project and an unending supply of real military to act as guards for these soldiers. The project is headed by a megalomaniacal scientist with a god complex.

We hear a lot about the project and the failures and all the dead people that have been left in its wake to this point. But they have reached a break-through with the super soldiers and are now embarking on a breeding program. For that they need women. They'll accept volunteers, although those are thin on the ground. So they resort to abductions. Morgan becomes one of those abductees.

Like I said, as a science fiction, suspense story this was actually quite interesting. The project and the personalities involved were a little on the B-movie side (i mean the main baddie, Dr. Strong, came off like a Bond villain at times) but overall the author created an interesting scenario and made it creepy and infuriating enough that you couldn't help but want to follow it through to the conclusion and hope the experimented on soldiers got some revenge and redemption. Also I thought the writing was strong and suspenseful.

However the romance was very wanting in my opinion. The book is told in alternating first person POVs: The heroine's and Dr. Strong's the mad scientist. Frustratingly, the hero, Alpha, often feels like a third place supporting character. We never get any perspective from him. No idea of his thoughts about anything, no inner thoughts or feelings at all. He is a hero-stand in, imo. Nothing about him makes him a unique personality. In contrast we get a LOT of Strong's personality. In fact he is a driver of most of the plot.

Hence, the story becomes a science-fiction fated mates story because the introduction of Morgan to Alpha creates some bond but it is never explained what or why it is. Even worse, Alpha becomes just a hero Deus Ex Machina that gets dropped into the plot at opportune moments to save the heroine. But he gets bundled off back off screen into his box until the next time he is needed.

Since most of the action happens inside this secure facility that Dr. Strong has absolute dominion over, there is a sense of suffocation, imo, of the romance. Alpha and Morgan only get the time together that Strong allows them. We get moments of them together and are told they are bonding and they have some conversation and lots of sex... because of course. But it really doesn't allow the romance to delve deeply. It is too bad because there is a kernel of a great romance in there. I believe the author has the chops to have built a strong, believable romance between the two. But it just felt like the book was too enamoured of Dr. Strong's machinations to give the H&H the space they needed to develop.

So one the romance front, I found myself turning the pages wanting something to happen to break us out. It finally does but not til, like 80% into the book. The last 20% of the book was really quite good. Alpha finally gets some long awaited agency. He does something, thank God. And the ending was really quite satisfying on the plot perspective. But I wish that we had gotten more real face time with Alpha so we get to know him and the author had given him a real personality. As it is I am just left with a character whose only personality trait is his name.

trigger warning for on screen rape and domestic violence.

Also small note on writing malapropism: pass <> past and wearily <> warily

Bucky Barnes Alpha The Winter Soldier

This is the first in the author's series about genetically engineered soldiers and the human breeders they love. Here we get battered wife Morgan and Alpha of all Alphas, err, Alpha, victim of a mad scientist's cruel experiments. Can she tame the beast? King Kong & Ann, Tarzan & Jane, The Hulk & Black Widow, The Beast & Belle would like a word...

I'm going to begin by saying that this sci-fi/erotic/quasi-OV mash-up is one of the worse written books I've ever read. I spent more time proof-reading my college papers than this author did a book she is selling for money. There are missing or incorrect words, and punctuation, grammatical, and spelling errors on nearly every page ("I resigned at my dream," "intimidations of him," "some employees take missing," and "most part of the day" are just a few examples). Given how well this book is doing on Amazon, clearly this doesn't bother most readers; it's unconscionable that it doesn't bother the author. While I might excuse this to some degree if Ms. Rayne were a first-time author, a quick Google search reveals that she is not.

All this is too bad because underneath is a compelling story about a WOC with a disability who comes into her own after a lifetime of abuse and neglect. Add in the detailed world-building (the "obsession" was a nice touch), likable MC, suspenseful plot, and genuine surprise at the end, and this book had all the makings of an enjoyable story. Despite all the problems I had with it, I was invested enough to keep reading until the end and I will read the next.

That said, I agree with other reviewers that the book had huge plot holes and inconsistencies. The breeders are valuable yet their lives are totally worthless. Morgan is a complete victim even though she has enough money to escape her family. She's so plain no one notices her, except for every man who's obsessed with her. We never find out why the grandparents were so rich; who ; how the ; what the ; or why they . Strong is equally incoherent. While I understand that the mad doctor is, err, mad, exactly what his endgame is becomes increasingly lost. Finally, while I didn't mind that we don't get Alpha's POV (though I understand why other readers objected), Strong's internal monologues often overwhelmed the MC -- a strange choice to make in a book about a romantic couple -- because of this, Alpha and Morgan spend far too little time together.

2 1/2 stars. I see from the reviews that Sigma answers some of my questions. Trigger Warnings for Rape & Domestic Violence.

Spoilers ahead, a solid 3.5* rounded up because Alpha was just delicious

Our h(yes I forgot her name) is a fluffy young lady from a wealthy family with a stutter, stuck in a loveless marriage to an abusive husband. She's kidnapped and taken to a facility where the mad scientist and his crew are attempting to breed super solidiers. Our h is taken to be a breeder to the leader of the super soldiers....Alpha.

Alpha was created with a mix of alien DNA and other stuff 😂. He's the biggest baddest mofo around but much more intelligent than the scientists and their staff think. He's been quietly planning his escape from the facility but meeting his mate puts everything into fast forward

Now this was actually pretty good, mixed races, a mad scientist who you can actually believe is a mad scientist, scenes of brutality as necks were broken and heads snapped off( my favorite parts) and a budding relationship between the sweetest sexiest science experiment 😂and a h who needed to not only find herself but finally experience real love.
There were times this felt a little too wordy and I was a little tired of the h sometimes but all in all a pretty good read. Loved the family's comeuppance at the end

H is a virgin
h is married and we get a scene with her and her husband having "sex"
Domestic violence
Rape of a secondary character
Lots of brutality (the good kind)
A scene that looks like the H was with someone else but he wasn't

Non-Rated Review:

I had to dnf this book after I reached the (68%) mark of this story.
Truth is, when I stopped at the (30%) mark due to having to read another book for a group read, I was already feeling my attention and interest waning with this story. I was not crazy about the VERY long drawn out setup of the story already.. Then when things finally seemed to be moving in a good direction for me, the story would change course. Like the author didn't exactly know where she wanted to go with it or these characters..

So when I started up again, and read to the (68%) mark, not only did I see that this pattern didn't change, it got worse. With more outlandish twists that gave the impression it was just thrown in there for shock value's sake..None of this feels organic to me. EXCEPT the long awaited coupling of Alpha and Morgan. Which was then quickly taken away as soon as it was given, only to get back to all the drawn out crazy that isn't really hooking me to begin with..

Maybe this book is just suffering from what I call "First Book Syndrome" when the hook is lost in all of the details and the overgrown & extended setup.. Either way, because this book is only 267 pages long and I've read 184 of them already, I think this book needs to be more focused and tighter on the hook and delivery, and less bogged down with stuff that could clearly come out over the course of the series to keep things relevant and interesting..

Also, I'm not a fan of this author's inability to use present and past tense terms properly. It's annoying and distracting when the characters are clearly in the present, but they are using past tense verbiage/lingo. This was really bad in the first 7 or so chapters of this book. Then it appeared to have been corrected a bit, only to return again. So editing is NEEDED BADLY here.

Conclusion:
The premise/plot is good in theory here, but it suffers greatly in the author's execution of it.
Characters like Alpha and Morgan, even the nutty villain, Dr. Strong; would be better served under a different pen holder/storyteller. Though Strong was a joke. An annoying one at that. I couldn't really take him seriously as a true villain, even though he does some awful things here. He still is nothing more than a petulant child that never learned the art of self control or how to share.

Because I was unable to complete this book, I don't believe it is fair to give it a star rating. I feel the fact that I was unable to finish, says it all..

Would I recommend?=No.
Do I like the MCs= Yes.

Superior super soldier story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️😮☺️😍🥰

The heroine: Morgan - she grew up in Texas, the granddaughter of the pastor of a well-known mega church. Her father is the governor, and her mother is a former Miss America who thinks appearance is everything and is a perfectionist that never seems to stop nagging at every little thing about Morgan. Morgan moved straight from abusive parents to an abusive and loveless marriage to a man she hardly knew because that is what her mother wanted. Trevor works at her father’s law firm. On top of that she has a stutter, which is worse when she is nervous which is why her mother doesn’t allow her to speak in public and tells people she is mute.

The Hero: Alpha - he was the first successful subject of Project X to survive the embryonic stage. He is the product of synthesized DNA as well as alien DNA. He is also different than all the others. He is more complex and smarter that all the rest, and a bunch of guards in tactical gear with weapons are no match for him and it takes a lot of tranquilizer darts to take him down.

The Story: One day when Morgan was home alone, two large men entered her home, grabbed her, and knocked her out. She wakes up in the lab of one of the pharmaceutical companies of a wealthy man who is a new client of Trevor’s at her father's law firm. When they tell her they have her on medication to flush out her birth control, she figures they plan to test unapproved drugs on her. She is held there for four months before she is taken to the “compound”, finding out the real reason she was taken. Once at the compound, she becomes the obsession of Alpha.

Dr. Ryder Strong is a certified psychopath who thinks of his Project X experiments and scientific advancements above all else. He sees his subjects as creatures rather than sentient human beings and calls them “it” instead of “he” or “she”. Dr Strong is happy that his recent advancement of finding an “obsession” for each of the subjects has calmed down their rage to a point where only about 26 guards and other staff members have died this month, down from the over 110 the prior month. The “obsession” for most of the subjects is an object, though for Alpha it is Morgan. One odd thing about this book was that there were some chapters done in Dr. Strong’s point of view.

I thought Morgan seemed like quite a wimp at first, since she never spoke up to her parents' criticism and allowed them to force her into an unhappy marriage, she also didn’t put up any kind of fight against her husband and did her best to try to placate him and catered to him to keep him from getting into a bad mood. She did have an inner strength, like the fact that she made him sign a pre-nuptial agreement and kept her money separate from the marital money. Which turned out for the best since she inherited a lot of wealth from her grandparents when they died shortly after her marriage. Her money would NOT be going to Trevor or to her parents if she died a premature death. She showed a lot of strength while she was held captive as well.

“Alpha didn’t acknowledge the lab coat man. His eyes were still on me. I waited for him to speak, to say something, but he didn’t. He took a step towards me, and I crab crawled back on instinct. I didn’t know if this man would hurt me or not, but I did see him kill at least seven soldiers with his bare hands without breaking a sweat.”

“Everything you saw today with the other soldiers, are doubled with Alpha. Those walls are five times thicker than the Hoover Dam. It is made up of a mixture of heavy metals. It is soundproof, and for added bonus, it is buried seven miles below the Earth. Down here, is the only place we can contain him. It is the only place on this compound he cannot escape.”

I really do like these stories of genetically engineered super soldiers, though one thing they all have in common are that they are created by mad scientists and guarded by men who love to torture all their captives. When that part of the story is going on, it always seems too long, and I just can’t wait for the evil captors to get what is coming to them. It is always so great seeing them get their karmic retribution. This story was excellent, and I could not put it down. I am definitely moving right on to the next book in this series.

Minus 1 star because of the two extremely violent gang rapes portrayed on page, and the several more that were described - with no real trigger warning.
Minus 1 star for the suicide attempt by the victim of the rapes - again no trigger warning.
Minus 2 stars for making the male love interest a side character, and making the rapey mad scientist stereotype the actual MMC. The book was told in dual POV, the female love interest and the scientist.
Tips for the author:
*giving no trigger warning makes you come off as dismissive of the seriousness of the subject matter. If you're talking about sexual violence, you can't just say violence. It feels like you're tricking people.
*In first person romance books, the love interest almost always are the only POVs shown. Giving half the book to someone else is unheard of for me.

After ending this book I feel numb and almost betrayed by the author's disregard for proper romance writing etiquette (trigger warnings and making the couple be the main characters).
The FMC came off as pretty dismissive of the friend's trauma from being violently raped every night for weeks - reflecting the author's dismissive attitude in not even giving proper trigger warnings. In one instance, after the 3 guards came into the room to rape the friend, the FMC actually thought "Here comes MY nightmare". She also just thought "you can't leave me, I cant be here alone" when the friend attempted suicide - instead of, you know, thinking that her friend dying is bad FOR THE FRIEND. Very off-putting to read.
I barely consider this a romance, hence the one star.

This was a solid quasi-scifi romance, with a big alien and some asshole government types doing bad things to good people. I should probably give it 3-stars except for one important thing - the author was sneaky. The gradual progression of Dr Evil and our hero Alpha was very subtle until it suddenly became obvious.

The sex scenes were straight-forward, constrained by the situation. I'd enjoy a more private scene.

I could have done without the family dynamics, though it provided background for certain events, and the resolve here was well done, if slightly over the top.

The epilogue could have been longer, but only to provide warmth and comfort (and maybe an extra sex scene) to this reader after all the bad things that had happened.

I will explore this author's other offerings.

I freaking loved this book. Alpha and Morgan. *sigh* Honestly Morgan…she never came across as pathetic or weak, just beaten down, but the strength she found. 🤌 💋 Her arc was oh so satisfying. Also Alpha...big ol’ heart eyes for Alpha. Not surprisingly I loathed the unhinged doctor. His chapters got progressively crazier and it heighten my fear for Morgan every flipping time we read from his POV.
It wasn’t perfect but man was it a crazy ride
In conclusion *deep breath* this was awesome

This was amazing. I loved it! To be honest I didn‘t expect much but this surprised me. The book is dark, brutal and contains a lot of triggering and graphic topic (violence, r*pe). So please be aware before reading!
The plot is interesting and it was well thought out. It‘s not super unique (genetic super warriors and a breeding program) but it was well written with a lot of emotions. I loved this story so much and couldn’t stop reading the whole evening. I was glued to my kindle and had a lot of fun with this book.
Morgan and Alpha have my heart. These two deserve their happy end after all they‘ve endured. They have great tension and their relationship was build up well by the author. Morgan is in the facility against her will to breed with one of the genetic manipulated warriors and she falls in love with Alpha along the way.
I liked the fact the author gave us the pov of the „mad scientist“ because it was so interesting to read and to get a view on his intentions and goals. The whole book was well though out and as a reader we get more information with each chapter and there are a lot of twists and turns.
Overall this was a great book and I will definitely read the next one in this series.

So funnily enough I really thought I would like this one. It ticked many box's for me, unfortunately I guess it just wasn't for someone like me. Though I'm almost positive there is a trigger warning I felt that I would be fine but man I was not fine! This book caused literal nightmares and horrible memories to surface, I honestly felt it was unnecessarily violent, as much of the raping and killing didn't really add anything to the MC's relationship, it just made the book (for me) unreadable. We never get the H point of view which made so much of it confusing. Another thing is we get the pov of the crazy, killing, horrible people but not the H. I just don't care about the feelings of the psycho killer, so to have the much of the book from his pov just really creeped me out, but maybe that was the whole point. Its taken me almost a month to get this review done since I just shied away from the book altogether, but I defiantly wanted to say something just in case someone else wants to read it. The second book in the series is soooooo much better. I really liked it and reading this one helped I suppose but I would skip it or skim through and skip all the horrible stuff if I had it to do over again. Anyway hope this helps.

This book started off good but then too many things happened that turned me off. There is another character that is sexually assaulted a few times and I felt that it was unnecessary to add that. The h did not have a good life but the fact that there was no one in her family that supported her made little sense. Then her getting back at everyone was so ridiculous. I didn't get any enjoyment out of reading about the downfall of others. The villain was also poorly written. A lot of what happened in the facility was too OTT and there was no chemistry btw the H and h.

Amazing!

I’ve had this book in my library for a while but now that I’ve finally read it, I’m impressed. Like who would have thought and experiment would be someone’s happy ever after? And let’s not talk about the scientist, that man was a bonafide lunatic. Nevertheless, this book kept me up until the wee hours of the morning trying to find out what more is going to happen, and I was not disappointed. Definitely recommend reading this book

This is not the first "woman abducted for top secret supersoldier breeding program" book out there, but damn it's entertaining🍿

The main scientist villain and his arc 👍💯

Things get WAY over the top at the final story climax but I love it? And a satisfying hea, yes thank you

Just thought I'd take a little peak at this book last night after I downloaded it-and got thoroughly caught up in the story! Lost some sleep, but hey-it was totally worth it👍😂 I've already downloaded the second book in the series, Sigma.

I love the FMC and the MMC, and was on the edge of my seat and rooting for them the whole way through the story. There's a secret government experiment going on here, with a psycho-scientist at the helm. He's managed to create "super-soldiers" using a hodge-podge of DNA (including some alien) and he's holding them in captivity using extreme means. This is where we learn about ALPHA, our MMC.

Satisfied that he's got the Super Soldiers under his control, the crazy lead scientist starts the next stage of his devious plan-which is kidnapping women and forcing them to breed with the soldiers (which is where our FMC comes in).

My heart was breaking for Morgan at the beginning of the book, for how horrible her parents had treated her all of her life, and for what she was suffering at the hands of her abusive husband💔
By the end of the book, however, I was thrilled for her and the metamorph0sis she had gone through. I admired her and was so proud of her!
And, Alpha.....yeah, I'm in love😍 He and Morgan are pure beauty together.

I'll definitely be reading more from this author in the future👍

I'm so happy, that this was the last book. I chose to read for this year... Oh my goodness! This book was awesome! It had a bit of everything . I couldn't bear to put this book down, and the times that I did. I was trying to hurry up to get back to it lol... I do hope that the author considers making this book a series. I would really love to know in depth about the other super soldiers lives .
