Perspective #3

Third Time's a Charmer

Rate this book
Sometimes, even when you’re surrounded by people, you’re still on your own. Megan and Irys understand this better than anyone. Both women have been pulled away from the paths chosen for them and are beginning to take charge of their own lives. Now, they need to decide where they want to go and whether Qarradune has other plans.

--- Megan: Desperately wanting to return to Thayn and find Pounce, I wondered if the madness of this world would ever end. The longer I stayed here, the more the lines blurred between right and wrong. Faced with new harsh realities I could no longer remain neutral. I had to decide who was my friend, and who was my enemy.

--- Irys: Lost and dressed only in my nightgown, I faced the cold and darkness of this unknown place. No one could come to find me. They didn’t know where I was. To survive, I must face my worst nightmares; terrors I had lived to escape once before. It was time to stand. It was time to run.

With the Perspective books it’s all about character, and Amanda Giasson and Julie B. Campbell double down on this quality in Third Time’s a Charmer, the third book in the series: a double entendre of sorts, describing what this novel truly is, a charm and a Warrior’s power in the novel that is central to its plot. It’s been more than two years since I’ve spent some time with two of my favorite characters, the ever reverent Irys Godeleva, and the witty, willing, and courageous Megan Wynters. Captivating characters make for compelling scenes. When you add snappy, authentic dialogue, well-developed supporting characters, and on point pacing, you have a story that is unputdownable.

The authors construct two separate, alternating but parallel narratives/perspectives, one with Irys, opposite an injured Sefaline warrior and chivalrous knight and the other with Megan, opposite two fearless Kavylak warriors. Add to that mix the mysterious northerners, some subtle world-building on the earth-like Qarradune, teleportation and other cool powers, a heartbreaking climax, and I think all the bases are covered. Be warned, this installment is a bit darker than the first two, but the coloring gives the story greater range overall. I found myself racing to the end and then sad when it was all over, impatiently waiting on book 4.

This book was a little darker than the other two, but still a lot of fun. I continue to be interested to know what happens next, and I'm really starting to wonder about those dreams Megan and Irys are having. Clearly there's a connection there, making me think they didn't meet by happenstance.

I also like the continual character development in this series and have become increasingly interested in learning more about the Warriors. There is obviously a lot more going on there than them just being surface level "bad guys". Also, I can admit that (on Megan's side) I'm officially torn between Thayn and Mez hahaha. On Irys' side though, at the moment - team Acksil all the way!"

Can't wait to see how the fourth one pans out.

Best book of the series so far!

There was never a dull moment on any page from start to finish. I’m now even more intrigued than ever to discover more of this world and what comes next for the main characters. This story has layers to it that peel back little by little, leaving me desperate to learn more. I’m hooked!

I loved this book. The more I got into it, the more I enjoyed it. A page turner for sure. I have read the other 2 books in this series and have not been disappointed. Irys and Megan are “friends” to me now. I cannot wait for their next exciting adventure. The writing is so well done. The authors’ description of events, surroundings, jumps off the page! I don’t know what more can happen to these young ladies..
