An inferno meant to destroy…

Blackwell Tactical operator and former criminalist Samantha Willis discovers forensic evidence to prove her friend has been murdered. But before she can gather the evidence, an explosion erupts and a fiery inferno traps her in a building. She helplessly watches the evidence go up in flames and prays that she can escape before the encroaching flames take her life.

Or an act of revenge…

Firefighter and former Navy SEAL Matt Griffin knew his friend’s death was no accident, and he arrives at the building to gather his own evidence. But he sees the building engulfed in flames and discovers a familiar car parked in the lot. Sam, his former girlfriend, had to be trapped inside. Despite his training, despite his captain’s protest, Griff takes off without a threat assessment, risking his life to enter the building and drag Sam to safety. When he does, he can’t help but wonder if the fire was set to destroy evidence or if it was set to kill Sam. Either way, if Sam survives, he vows to hunt down the answer.

The last book in Sleeman's seven book series begins with a bang! Blackwell Tactical operator and former criminalist Samantha Willis discovers forensic evidence to prove her friend has been murdered. But before she can gather the evidence, an explosion erupts and a fiery inferno traps her in a building.

From rescuing Sam until the closing page when Matt and Sam finally put the evidence and facts together this is non-stop suspense. This has been an excellent series with each book facing a different problem but including all of the wonderful Blackwell Tactical characters. Great series to ead while in the hspital recovering from knee surgery!

'Suffering is a part of life. I've never met a strong person who hasn't suffered.'

It was so good to be back with Blackwell Tactical again. This group of former military and law enforcement folks are top notch in their field. This is book 7 and the final book in Susan Sleeman's Cold Harbor series. In my opinion, she saved the best for last.

Former criminalist and Blackwell Tactical member Samantha Willis is trying to discover what happened to a friend who died in a fire, and chances are nearly 100% that he was murdered. Her former boyfriend, Matt Griffin, former Navy SEAL, now firefighter and paramedic, was also a friend of the deceased and is helping her with her investigation.

Samantha broke up with Griff seven years earlier because of her trust issues. Griff has never stopped loving her and truth be told, neither has she stopped loving him. Samantha and Griff both has some serious issues to work through. But God is gentle with them and is leading them to find His best for their lives. There is a great spiritual message in this book and it ministered to me.

As always, Sleeman's suspense is top notch. The action never lets go until the end and I never guess the culprit. She always throws a surprise in. Her research into each aspect of her books is awesome. Sometimes I even am prompted to delve into things myself after reading her books! I love every minute. Highly recommended.

*My thanks to the author for a preview copy of this book. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Ex-police officer Samantha Willis has turned her badge in for a forensic kit and gloves. She finds evidence proving her friend’s death was no accident, but before she can turn it in she’s locked into a room while a fire rages around her. Can she live long enough to prove the murder?

Matt Griffin, former Navy SEAL turned firefighter, only wants to investigate his friend’s death, but when he arrives at the building he sees it’s engulfed in flames and his ex-girlfriend’s car is sitting in the parking lot.

Sam and Griff have to learn to put their differences aside to work together in solving this murder, but when their lives are both threatened they need to move quickly to neutralize the situation before anyone else is killed. Can they succumb to their feelings long enough to love each other again before it’s too late?

This is the first book I’ve read by Susan Sleeman and I gotta say, I’m impressed. I enjoyed her storytelling abilities and Cold Dawn had me hooked from the beginning. The clever plot drove me to keep reading to find out who was behind the mystery.

Sam and Griff are characters I could get on board with. They both had believable qualities that made them jump out on the page.

I enjoyed learning about the Blackwell Tactical group and it was apparent to me the author has done her research on forensic and police procedures.

This is the last of the Cold Harbor series and can be read on its own. However, I want to know more about these characters, so I will need to go back and catch up!

I look forward to reading her new upcoming series, Truth Seekers.

I give Cold Dawn four stars. It’s an engaging story that will keep you reading into the night!

**An e-copy of this book was given to me by the author for my honest review.

The lone single member of the Blackwell Tactical team is about to meet her match (but she’s already met him). Former criminalist Samantha Willis wants to uncover the truth of what happened to her childhood friend. In order to give the investigation her best, she calls on the man whose heart she broker seven years ago.

Griff still wonders why Sam walked out on him. No explanation. No contact afterward. She was just…gone. Now he’s working alongside her and, after multiple attempts on her life, he’s focus is on keeping her alive without losing his heart again.

Susan Sleeman once again takes readers through the investigation process with a team of professionals who have each other’s backs—false starts, unanswered questions, and all. Between multiple suspects, professional support from the Veritas group, and intense moments that place Sam and Griff in jeopardy, readers are immersed in an authentic and realistic investigation.

Cold Dawn also has the bonus of working as an excellent series bridge to Sleeman’s upcoming Truth Seekers series (book 1 coming in April 2019) with an introduction to Emory and the Veritas group.

"She'd chosen to be alone. All alone. And suddenly it didn't seem like she'd made the best choice."

After being rescued from a life threatening fire, by the very man whom Samantha Willis had once hoped would be her "happily ever after", forensic curiosity took over. As a member of the Blackwell Tactical team, Sam is intent on proving that the fire which took the life of a friend had been an act of arson. She just never expected the arsonist to come after her or that Matt Griffin would be the one to save her.

Former Navy SEAL turned firefighter Matt Griffin never understood what had prompted the love of his life to walk away from him without a single explanation. Years have gone by, yet seeing Sam again brings a wave of emotions back to life; in actuality, he'd never forgotten a thing about her. Feelings aside, they are going to have to work together to solve a crime and "Griff" is determined to keep Sam safe in the process.

It's a wild ride through highs and lows, but in the end faith overcomes fear and justice triumphs over evil intentions.

Ms. Sleeman's COLD DAWN may be the last in the series, but it won't leave you cold as you read about a raging fire. Someone killed Sam's long time friend and she is hunting answers.

Far from formula suspense, COLD DAWN leaves you guessing as you try to figure out who / why / what /and how, but be warned Ms. Sleeman is a master at twists that come out of no where.

I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

Susan Sleeman did a great job of wrapping up the Cold Harbor series and bringing in some new faces for her new series. She finished up the Cold Harbor series with a book about their newest member, forensic analyst Sam. Sam’s friend, Andy, has just been murdered, and in order to find the murder she is forced to work with her old boyfriend. Griff, Sam’s ex-boyfriend, is also determined to find Andy’s murderer, but he wants to win Sam back at the same time. Cold Dawn features a will they won’t they story, filled with suspense and romance.
I admired Griff, and I liked how he always respected Sam’s stance while trying to convince her. I think that Sam’s reasons for not wanting a relationship were really sound as well, so it didn’t seem forced. I also loved seeing Sam’s found family again. It’s so cute to me how all the team members are very free in expressing their opinions. I especially love how Hannah is always trying to matchmake everyone. Plus, it was great to see how the different couples' lives were playing out.
The suspense was definitely on point. I had no idea what was coming or who was going to be the murderer. I think that it really is the kind of book that grabs your attention and makes you want to keep reading. In addition, I really liked how Susan Sleeman’s suspense is never too scary or intense. It’s always hard to find a clean, not scary, Christian, suspense book, but Susan Sleeman balances all these traits. And I can’t wait to read the next book about Blake and Emory! I would definitely recommend this book.

Cold Dawn is the seventh and final installment in Susan Sleeman’s Cold Harbor series. I love the Blackwell Tactical team and am sad to see their series end. But what a great end this was!

Samantha “Sam” Willis is new to the Blackwell Team. Her perspective as a newbie adds to the satisfying conclusion to the series. She’s grateful to the team for giving her a second chance after an injury sidelines her. But she’s even more grateful when they agree to help her find justice for her friend who she believes was murdered.

Matthew “Griff” Griffen has not stopped loving Sam, even when she broke up with him without warning. Since then, he’s left the SEAL Teams and become a firefighter. When his best friend dies in a fire and Sam is determined to investigate, Griff jumps on board. His background assures him acceptance onto the Blackwell team.

Coming to the final book in a series I have loved, I always want to read slower. Savor the characters before having to say goodbye. The tension within Cold Dawn didn’t allow for much savoring, however. Until the end – but I won’t spoil that for you.

I really liked seeing Gage – the founder of Blackwell Tactical and the hero of the first book in the series – circle back to connect with Griff. Both were SEALS, both experienced loss. Whether Griff can overcome his the way Gage did is something you’ll have to read for yourself.

For Sam, she was a harder character to crack. For me and for Griff. I loved how her relationship with a Veritas Center partner introduced the next series, The Truth Seekers. I also liked her gumption. As a female in a very male world, she could hold her own and garnered the respect of her peers.

I hope you’ll read Cold Dawn. To get the full effect, I would recommend reading the whole Cold Harbor series. You don’t have to do so to enjoy Cold Dawn, but much of the emotion of the final pages will be missed without it.

SUSPENSE OVERLOAD!

COLD DAWN (A Cold Harbor Novel Book 7) is filled with suspense from beginning to end! This book should be read in the order it was written in the Series for the reader to completely understand all of the backstory of the Blackwell Tactical Group and exactly what they do, why they all work so well together and why it’s important for them to have significant others in their lives to help support, encourage, ground and love them. Each book centers around one member of the Team. This one centers around Forensic Expert Samantha Willis. A lifelong friend of hers has been found dead and she believes his death is not accidental. She brings in another friend, Matthew Griffin, former Navy SEAL and now a Firefighter and Medic, in to help her investigate the mysterious death.

While trying to solve that mystery, there is a much bigger mystery of what happened between Sam & Griff in the past. They had a great relationship going and she broke it off with no explanation. All it takes is for them to see each other to know that their feelings for each other haven’t changed in the past few years. They both know that they must focus on the investigation first and foremost. It quickly becomes apparent that maybe the facts are not adding up and the case is much more complicated than they first thought. This is a case that will take all the skills of the Blackwell Team Members plus the skills of some friends at a specialty DNA Lab to find out the truth of the killer/killers. Will they be too late with the evidence? Will the killer/killers strike again? Are the attempts on Sam and Griff’s lives related to the murder of their friend or coincidental? What if they get blindsided by the murderer/murderer? Who can they trust? Will Sam and Griff find their way back to each other? I was provided an ARC of this book by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. I also preordered a copy of this book for my own personal collection.

My review today is on the Romantic Thriller, Cold Dawn. This is book seven in the Cold Harbor Series. I really enjoy Susan's work. How she keeps coming up with new and exciting stories I'll never know but she keeps blessing her readers. This book is well written, exciting, and full of action. She weaves her faith throughout the story as you would a well woven tapestry. I know you are going to love this one. What a wonderful way to end the series.

Blackwell Tactical Forensic Expert Samantha Willis is brokenhearted at the death of her high school friend. She takes time off work to work the scene trying to prove his death wasn't accidental. She asks her ex-boyfriend to meet her at the cannery where Andy died. Her boss calls and they have taken the case to investigate her friends death. She is going through the warehouse collecting evidence when someone shut the metal door and sets the building on fire again. It couldn't be an accident. Who is trying to kill her?

Ex-Navy SEAL and firefighter Matt Griffin, Griff agrees to help his ex-girlfriend investigate his best friend's death. He's not sure he can work with the Sam who walked out on him with no explanation. He arrives and finds the cannery on fire and Sam's jeep in the parking lot. He manages to save her but they are attacked again and again. Who could be trying to kill them?

A journey of terror for two broken souls. Can they trust each other, trust God, and find a way to move on with their lives. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.

Samantha Willis, a tactical operator, and former criminalist learns of the death of her childhood friend, Andy. She gathers forensic supplies and goes to the scene in hopes of gathering evidence to prove his death wasn’t an accident. When she arrives, someone locks the door of the building and sets it on fire. Sam faces death when she inhales too much smoke in her fight to stay alive.
Matt Griffin, a firefighter, former Navy SEAL, and her ex-boyfriend, heard about the death of his roommate and friend and went to the scene to gather more information. When he arrives, he spots Sam’s car in the parking lot of a building engulfed in flames. He must get inside the inferno and find Sam. With only seconds to spare before their lungs collapse and the intense smoke overtakes them, they escape with their lives.
The emotional battle between Sam and Matt is as intense as the burning building. Sam can’t allow herself to be with Matt even though her heart says yes. Matt can’t understand why she’d abruptly ended their relationship years earlier with no explanation. They battle with their feelings for each other as they join forces with Blackwell Tactical to gather evidence and find the killer.
Cold Dawn is a nice smooth read mixed with intense action scenes. The story captured my attention and kept me turning the page.

It’s been such a treat to meet all the people in Susan Sleeman’s Cold Harbor series. Well, maybe treat isn’t the right word, since they manage to get into more trouble than a barrel of monkeys! Still, the characters are wonderful and Sleeman gets them in and out of trouble with her skillful suspense writing. Samantha and Griff are well-drawn and endearing characters who get a second chance at love when they are drawn together through the death of a mutual friend. Their expertise in their different fields is tested when they work to solve the mystery of his murder.

This story has intrigue, suspense, and inspiration all mixed together with a dash of romance. I enjoyed seeing the growth and healing that Samantha and Griff went through to get their happily ever after. Along with their story, we got an introduction to the author’s next series, Truth Seekers, by meeting Emory Steele, the heroine in Dead Ringer, which is the first book in the series.

The only problem I had with Cold Dawn was some confusion during the last part of the book. I had a hard time keeping track of all the suspects and extra characters. Other than that, Sleeman’s superb writing and knowledgeable background in crime fighting kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m looking forward to the next series and more great suspense.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This is book seven in the Cold Harbor series, even though it is a stand alone book, you will miss a lot of history and some amazing books if you just pick this one up. But, if this is your first in the series you will still enjoy it. I fell in love with the entire Blackwell Tactical team from book one and have enjoyed getting to know each member of the team more personally through each book. I am so excited to see that I will still get to somewhat keep up with the Blackwell team in the next series, the Truth Seekers. Susan Sleeman is one of my favorite contemporary, suspense, mystery, romance writers around. Her books always grab my attention from the get go and keep it, with many twist and turns till the very end.

Samantha Willis, Sam, is a beautiful, hardworking former criminalist who is now a part of the Blackwell team. Firefighter and former Navy SEAL Matt Griffin, Griff, (SIGH) must help Sam discover whom killed their friend and stay alive in the process. Sam and Griff have a past of their own and must work through some issues to possibly face a future together.

I love the mystery, suspense and of course Romance in this novel, I enjoyed the entire series and am so glad that I have read all seven books.

I have read most of the Cold Harbor book series and highly recommend them! This one was also amazing! It had a great story line with lots of suspense and action. Burning buildings, car chases, murder…I read it in one day because I couldn’t put it down.

Sam (Samantha) and Griff (Matt Griffin) and Pepper (puppy) are the main characters in this story as they work together to figure out the death of their friend Andy. As they get closer to finding out what happened, they have to keep running for their lives to stay one step ahead of the killer. Lots of twists and turns-nothing is as it seems.

Throughout the book, Sam works on coming to terms with her past and misunderstandings, so she can move on to find love in her future. I really liked Griff’s determination and love to help Sam. They were both great, strong, passionate, characters!

The story also includes members of Sam’s team like Gage and Hannah from previous Cold Harbor books. I loved reading about the other team members and I’m sad to see the series end. I can’t wait to start reading the new series this author is writing next though.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

We are back with the Blackwell Tactical group, and this time the story belongs to forensic specialist Samantha Willis.
When her friend Andy dies in a fire, she goes to investigate the abandoned warehouse. Sam asks her former boyfriend, Matt Griffin to meet her there, since he too was a friend of Andy’s. Matt, a former Navy SEAL and now firefighter, has never forgotten or stopped loving Samantha, even after 7 years. Never understanding why she left him.
When he gets to the location to meet Sam, the building is in flames, and runs in to rescue her.
From that moment on, the action in this story is non-stop, filled with bad guys, questions, and danger.
In the midst of all the action, both are struggling with personal issues and must take the leap of faith to trust God to help them in their lives.
Will Sam be able to trust, and will Griff be able to let go of is guilt he still carries from his SEAL years?
It was a well developed story that also gave us a chance to visit with the other members of Blackwell Tactical.
Another winner from this author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are soley my own.

I'm so sorry to see this series end! It was one of my favorites! Blackwell Tactical was a great group of people to follow as I read their stories and got to know them. As with most series I read, I felt like they were real people and I wanted to "really" know them! This final book was about Samantha - or Sam - who was a former criminalist, and she finds forensic evidence at a fire that she feels prove her friend, Andy, was murdered but then she is trapped in the building where the fire was and an inferno erupts! She believes she is going to die and only hopes that someone shows up before she does.....
Sam's former love, Matt Griffin, is a former Navy SEAL, now firefighter, shows up at the burning building and goes into automatic "firefighter" mode. Andy was his friend too so that's why Matt - or Griff as he's known"- was at that building. Between Sam and Griff, they vow to find out who killed Andy and why. I really enjoyed catching up with all the Blackwell Tactical gang and not only having them help Sam in her quest to catch the killer but finding out what's happening in their personal lives! A great story to end this series and I will miss these characters!

Cold Dawn, the last in the Cold Harbor series, was wonderful. I love how the author creates believeable characters, storylines, and emotions in each and every book. She always delivers with nonstop action, suspenseful plots, and keeps me guessing through the end. I love the way she effortlessly weaves backstories into each of the books, so that the couples have a past that needs to be repaired, rekindled, forgiven, or reconnected. It feels natural instead of romance where boy meets girl and knows he’s in love by chapter 2 though she’s a virtual stranger. Love, love, love this series and definitely will continue to recommend it to all my friends. Now that all seven books are published, my friends (and I) can read the series start to finish, getting to know each and every one better. I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are solely mine.

Cold Dawn by Susan Sleeman is the seventh and final book in her Cold Harbor series. This is Samantha Willis’ story. Sam finds evidence that a friend has been murdered and now she’s the next target. She calls in her team, Blackwell Tactical, to help. Matt Griffin also believes that Andy was murdered, so he shows up to do his own investigation. Only to find his ex-girlfriend has beat him to the scene. Working together they race to solve the case before Sam becomes the next victim. I loved how Sam and Griff got along with each other despite all the baggage they had to deal with. Blaming yourself for mistakes can really affect all aspects of your life. Susan reminded us that God has everything under control. Let Him be your rest and peace!

Susan Sleeman has penned a thrilling conclusion to her Cold Harbor series: another fast-paced mystery thick with suspense and clouded with some surprises. The Oregon setting is a plus for me since its my home state. Blackwell Tactical may need to open their doors to another guy, who would fit in well—except he’s not sidelined from a former injury, as required to become part of this elite team. In this novel, Sam and her former boyfriend, Griff, investigate the fiery death of an old friend. They must prove the fire was arson and the killing intentional before Sam meets a similar fate. The action keeps you guessing. I wish the series wasn’t ending, but the spinoff will let us keep in touch with these intriguing characters. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

DNF. Made it about 65% I wanted to like this book, but I struggled. The premise is exactly the type of book I like but I couldn't get past the repetitiveness of the whole thing. Sam can tell Griff why she left him but she loves him. He loves her and can't seem to let her go. I started to get sick of it. The other thing, if Andy is such a good friend to them, why didn't they notice all his strange behavior. He was living with Griff and the man was supposedly special forces. I got the book because of the high rating and the storyline but it just wasn't for me. The other thing that really got me, Sam believes her mom should have stayed with the dad even though he cheated. I almost stopped right there.

I wasn’t as drawn into this book and I’m not sure why. It was good, and had many super sweet moments because Griff is amazing, but just didn’t grab me.

We have yet another second chance romance but a severe lack of cute little kids in this one. Dogs are not nearly as heart-melting as kids. Just saying.

Sometimes the things that keep people apart I kind of feel is ridiculous. It comes out and I’m like, “That’s the reason you can’t be with him/her?!” But I feel like Sam’s issue is legit. Maybe because it’s such a similar issue and fear to my own.

Emory is the final cameo from Veritas and we actually get to visit the Center in this one! It’s funny because Blake and Emory are both on this case but don’t meet :)

Riveting mystery... Blackwell Tactical forensic crime specialist, Samantha Willis is overwhelmed with the death of her friend Andy. She’s determined to know how he died. When her crime scene literally comes under fire, her firefighter ex-boyfriend and former Navy SEAL rushes in to save her. As they both mourn the loss of their friend, they work together to solve what looks like a murder. Their relationship is fraught with tension as Sam learns to overcome her fears. I love the mystery and romance around this storyline. Blackwell Tactical comes together to help this couple set things right. I loved seeing how all the relationships progressed. Great ending to an amazing series.

Murder? Mystery... Romance! You get it all with this series! Susan has a way of writing that draws you to the edge and gives you more! I love this series! Each book is about one member of the Blackwell Tactical team. This book is about Sam who is the Forensic Expert on the team. When her friend Andy is found dead she sets out to prove he was murdered. I won't spoil anything but you are in for a great read! Enjoy!

Cold Dawn starts right off with intense suspense, the plot keeps getting more complex, and I was completely pulled into the story. I couldn’t figure out how the every-increasing pieces of the mystery would fit together, but in the end they did. I also really liked the two main characters, Sam and Griff. I appreciated how they worked through their personal issues before they jumped into a relationship—that is realistic to me. I didn’t expect the different twists at the end, and it was a very enjoyable book!

Good Book

I chose this rating as Susan keeps your interest in the story. She keeps you wanting to find out what happens next. Former police officer Samantha Willis finds out her friend Andy was killed and now that she is a forensic investigator she works to solve the case. Her former boyfriend Matt Griffin (former SEAL) now a firefighter and paramedic comes to help her. Can she learn to trust him and love him again. With the help of her team from Blackwell Tactical they find their answers.

I enjoy Susan Sleeman's books usually, but this one was disappointing. It is number 7 in the series, and it felt like Ms Sleeman was tired of writing the series. There were typos and a couple of times there were words missing or didn't make any sense - editing issues I know, but I'd not seen that in her books until numbers 6 and 7 of this series. Also, the "twist" at the end was not her usual quality and I felt cheated at the climax. I enjoy the characters but after the first few books they feel like copies of each other.

Moving on

Always an exciting story as the intelligent and brave members of Blackwell Tactical set out on a mission. Amidst the exciting action and plot twists, an old romance between Samantha and Griff tries to bloom. Operative word is tries. Way too much of the book was filled with repetetive whining about why Sam could never trust a man again. Anyway, Susan Sleeman still wrote a great story with the help of the members of the Blackwell family.

Susan Sleeman has done it again! A fast-paced story involving murder, arson, romance, suspense, twists and turns, rejection. . . kept my interest. And it was good to be reacquainted once again with the Blackwell Tactical community and their commaradery and teamwork. The only complaint that I had was that Sam (the h) couldn't make up her mind and seemed emotionally weak. Overall, it was a great clean read that I highly recommend.

Samantha a forensic investigator finds evidence her best friend Andy was murdered. He died in a building that had been set on fire. Working with a past love and firefighter Griff that came to get his own evidence. It is tense between them with unsolved questions. It comes out when Sam is caught in another building that was set on fire. Filled with non stop action with buildings being on set on fire and the heat between them . Can be read by itself, but a great series. .

Great read!

The final book in Cold Harbor series finds the newest Blackwell team member, Sam, in danger. One of her best friends was killed and she's determined to find out how and why, but someone doesn't want her to.
Learn to trust God knows best when He plans your life is the lesson. A sub-lesson is be a diligent steward of what He gives you. I absolutely recommend this book!
