Lord Anakreon, Warden of the First Circle, has lost a weapon. Not just any weapon; the Planet Forge is an ancient alien artefact with the power to create worlds… And to end them.
His arch-rival, the traitor Lord Demios, is hell-bent on conquering Earth. He aims to dissect and sell both the planet and its human population. As sworn guardians of Earth, Anakreon and his hand-picked crew of fighters must stop him, no matter how terrible the cost. But that is not their only challenge…
Because there are far, far worse things than rogue Wardens in the galaxy. As the people of the planet Arixia are about to find out.
What people are saying about Earth Warden:
“Earth Warden is a fast paced and explosive space adventure!”
“Very much in the vein of 'Star Wars', 'The Fifth Element' and 'Firefly', it’s chock full of space battles, genetically-engineered assassins, and mysterious alien artefacts. The galaxy is a seriously dangerous place!”
“Bestselling author Tony James Slater’s sci fi debut is a scorcher.”
Tony James Slater is a very, very strange man. He believes himself to be indestructible, despite considerable evidence to the contrary. He sometimes makes strange faces whilst pretending to be attacked by inanimate objects. But perhaps his single biggest problem is this; he has a mouth so big he is in danger of swallowing his own head. As a result he often ends up far from mainstream civilization, tackling ridiculous challenges and subjecting himself to constant danger. He gets hurt quite a lot.
‘Tristan, only nineteen years old, hailed from Earth’
Everything about Tony James Slater invites you to enter his life – at least as a voyeur. He seems to be from Australia (or at least someplace British with all the ’whilst’ and substituting s for z in verbs, jocular nicknames and terms we don’t hear often in the US). He describes himself as a ‘very, very strange man. He believes himself to be indestructible, despite considerable evidence to the contrary. He is often to be found making strange faces whilst pretending to be attacked by inanimate objects. It is for this reason (amongst others) that he chooses to spend his life far from mainstream civilization, tackling ridiculous challenges and subjecting himself to constant danger. He gets hurt quite a lot.’ That, by the way, is a fine example of his writing style – infectious is too benign an adjective. Tony also is an inordinately handsome man of movie star/model quality. But that is all peripheral information. Tony (and his wife Roo) are adventurers and that is usually what his thunderously wonderful books are all about – travelling and howling with anecdotes.
But now Tony has entered the realm of Science Fiction and he feels very at home there. He opens his Book 2 of The Ancient Guardians series novel with the following gentle intro – ‘From the relative safety of his tiny freighter’s cockpit, Darius Gartzen watched his planet die. It was nothing he could ever have imagined. Massive black shafts like spears of pure darkness penetrated the surface; as he watched the crust buckled and cracked, jetting great geysers of flame into the upper atmosphere. As a young man, He’d loathed being trapped on what he considered a backwater hell-hole. His friends, all equally bored with Arixia’s pace of life, concocted elaborate end-of-the-world scenarios, imagining an infinite procession of falling asteroids and viral apocalypses that would force them to escape the stars. In subsequent years he’d grown first to appreciate the peace and simplicity that came form remoteness, and then to love it. More specifically, he’d grown to love a girl that could only be a product of such a planet; her naïveté and childlike wonder at the strangeness of the universe still made him smile. Or, it had…’
The synopsis helps seduce you into his very strange world - ‘Lord Anakreon, Warden of the First Circle, has lost a weapon. Not just any weapon; the Planet Forge is an ancient alien artefact with the power to create worlds…And to end them. His arch-rival, the traitor Lord Demios, is hell-bent on conquering Earth. He aims to dissect and sell both the planet and its human population. As sworn guardians of Earth, Anakreon and his hand-picked crew of fighters must stop him, no matter how terrible the cost. But that is not their only challenge…Because there are far, far worse things than rogue Wardens in the galaxy. As the people of the planet Arixia are about to find out.’
Book 2 in the series is even better – hopefully more will follow! A winner, here.
The second book in the Ancient Guardians series, Warden’s Folly picks up right where the first book left off. It’s full of action and has a few twists thrown in that I wasn’t expecting, one of which was huge and quite a shock (I literally gasped when I read it). Sci-fi is not really my genre, but I totally enjoyed this one. The narrative is excellent and the way some things are phrased made me laugh out loud. I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy sci-fi and even those like me who usually don’t.
Why didn’t you kill Tristan? He’s a character that I don’t feel has any purpose or use in the book his character doesn’t seem to be growing very much. The only thing he did in this book is spoilers. And you killed a character who had quite a bit of promise. I love the warden and the princess even the assassin but asked for Tristan I just don’t get it. In my opinion this seem to have made the book a bit slow. Because there was no character progression as far as he was concerned. I will read the next book to see if the action picks up or if there’s more character development as far as he is concerned.
One of the very few books that had me really saddened! To read about your characters to be in such dire circumstances was masterful and I rode that roller coaster. Well done to the author. Definitely a book that had me on edge and then experiencing all kinds of emotions.
Lots of details start to become clearer and in good amount not just dribbling out.
Onward to book 3! Not many books worthy of going on this long. Good job!
The only reason that I haven't recommended book 3 is it isn't scheduled for release until January or February i will have it the day it becomes available. Dan
I was hesitant about reading the second book. The first one left me concerned that there would be so many issues that could not be resolved. I am glad my curiosity got the better of me. It was a fulfilling journey. Thx
Easy 5 stars! Love the plot. Non-stop action with just enough romance to keep it interesting. I'm hooked! Can't wait for next book. I recommend this to anyone any age that likes a good read.
Loved this book. The characters are well thought out and very well written. When they hurt, I hurt, when they experienced joy, I felt happy. Great story, with lots of surprises. Looking forward to book #3!
A most enjoyable ride, (so far) with the promise of more to come. The crew of the "folly" are a strange bunch, yet they blend. Keep writing the Ancient Guardians Tony. Loving the books.
I loved the second installment even more! It was even more filled with non stop action. I love how the author thrown gb in major plot bits so well, the story develops so well thought out, g
Took me a while to get in to the story, but I know that Tony James Slater can write a good one. It was worth sticking around. Lively characters, unexpected plot twists, explosions, this book has it all.
Well another great storyline with plenty of blood and guts total shame to lose Blas he was a favourite character for me.. Still trying to Vision a Fleishman spread out like a starfish and a pasty on his forehead lol
Likable characters, story moves along quickly with much action. Some gee whiz moments just in the nick of time but overall I’d recommend as a good read.
Read it now if you have a couple of days spare. That's a warning as once you start to read about tristan and his latest exploits you won't want to put it down.
