Star: Protecting My Sister

Rate this book
Star is a big hearted 14 year old runaway with anger issues. Life for Star has been tough, but it has created a strength and resilience in character and a strong drive to protect family. With an incredible mind, Star shows that size and strength can be trumped by clever thinking.

Having escaped an abusive father with Russian mafia connections, Star wants to protect a half-sister Kayla from the same fate and rescues her from his clutches. Now the challenge to keep themselves safe is Star’s priority. As a runaway Star has learnt valuable lessons for survival and the world needs to watch out as those skills are applied. Whilst dealing with Kayla's situation, Star also needs to work out some medical issues, born a boy but with puberty hitting there are physical signs that this may not be the case.

This was a great story and I read it in one sitting. So that's a warning for any of you who pick it up and want a nice leisurely reading experience...

Star was handed a whole bunch of ugly, bruised lemons and makes wonderful lemonade. She turns a horrible event at age 11 into a positive and uses all those emotions and energy for something good. She rescues her sister, deals with bad guys, keeps moving forward and starts on a path to help many others. I can't wait for another book or three or six... hint hint to the author!!!

A very well-written story about a very strong young woman

If there was ever a young woman that I would be a frightened to have mad at me it would be Star. This young girl went through Hell and came out on the other side very strong and with a very very adult look at life . She had unwavering strength for herself and especially her sister as well as others.

I highly recommend this book it is a very strong book and an extremely well-written one.

Good story

I read this in an afternoon. I quite liked it. My biggest complaint is that it ended rather abruptly. A little more behind down as well as a few loose ends tied up. Maybe a quick paragraph or two as to the date of the officer Jane as well as the couple that helped in the first half. At least to let them know the girls were happy and healthy.

Star

Fantastic storyline and a great read keeps the reader enthralled on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Basic story is of an intersex boy who is raped and then becomes fully female whilst also fighting the ghosts of her past. She then goes on to save a raped girl from further bullying.

A really different story

I really enjoyed this tale of overcoming early troubles and becoming someone that others could rely on. It deals with troubling subjects but isn't over graphic in its descriptions.

Excellent Adventure story.

This is a great book, especially for Tanya Allen fans. It combines intense drama, touching moments of love and kindness.

Star is a wonderful character. While there is very little focus on her transition, she shows the wisdom, insight, and courage so often present in transgender women after they transition.
The plot is filled with delightful surprises, dramatic twists, and even some jolting shocks. The ending is satisfying, and hints at more adventures for Star.

Fair warning, once you start reading, you won't want to stop until you are done. Looking forward to more from this writer.
