Conceptually, this is a complex and imaginative novel, but it explores plenty of common themes. As a work of YA fiction, it doesn’t disappoint in terms of introspective character development and a good bit of drama, and the pace of the novella is engaging and upbeat. For readers who want a thought-provoking sci-fi plunge, Licalsi delivers in a major way." Self-Publishing Review
Nicholas Licalsi’s love for science fiction and fantasy started with a box of his grandfather’s pulp paperbacks and the brainwashing alien parasite nesting between their pages. This led to an interest in engineering, robotics, and time travel.
After a successful enough career in software development Nicholas now spends his time trying to trick his overactive imagination into paying the bills while he satiates his dog's need to be pet.
He currently has 9 independently published books available everywhere books are sold and countless short stories on his blog StepIntoTheRoad.com. I would suggest this book to anyone who likes science fiction novella's with time travel and parallel worlds as a sub-genre. What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? I really enjoyed it. At first I was a little iffy if I was going to like this book because the MC was a bit of a "Gary Stue". However, by the end of the book his flaws were revealed and he became an understandable and relatable character. It a very satisfying ending that explained some earlier mysteries. Echoes are an insidious being both playful and frightening, they are and they are not copies of the original, depending on mindset. This is an apt title for Mr Licalsi's novella. If you are a true fan of the time travel genre, this book will not disappoint (I know but sometimes trite sayings are the best descriptors). Do NOT think on the lines of the ridiculously inept attempt known as "The Butterfly Effect" but more the lines of "The St Mary's Chronicals.". In this one the Universe may allow the echo but will still pose its will when needed. Five stars? Yep, and more everytime I read it because the ending is so well crafted that you must go back...what if? Ah, the insidious echo, indeed.
