Why do the prettiest girls always have the biggest secrets?
No one told Axel Harkins that he belonged at the center of a centuries’ old war between the magical races that lived in shadow. No one told him that he would gather a growing team of sexy, powerful women to help him unlock the near-limitless magic potential that was his birthright. No one told him he would lead a revolution.
When the love of his life goes missing and her hot, headstrong ex-girlfriend comes to his aid, it’s time for some answers. Magic. Blood. Sex. Power. It all pulls him and the women he loves into a maelstrom of government conspiracy, mad science, supernatural bloodlines, and insatiable desire where vampires, elves, and goblins are as deadly toward each other as they are toward the humans that hunt them.
No one told Axel he was fighting for his life. Now that he knows, no one’s will be the same.
WARNING: This book contains swearing, violence, gunplay, indoor sex, outdoor sex, sad things like final exams and murder, prison fights, dastardly medical experiments, a jackass football player, crime, dead parents, flashbacks, blood-letting, a high-speed chase, a prison break, and heavy petting in an enchanted car that’s going way too fast.
I feel like there was a little bit of a bait-and-switch with this story . The title is Fae Collector which in my mind means the story is about the Fae right? Since when are vampires considered Fae? In this world they are. Every supernatural creature is considered Fae in this book : Elf, vampire, Were, goblin and whatever other creature comes up in the later books. There is nothing really wrong with the story but for at about the first 20% through, I was wondering if I was reading the wrong book.
I have read this story before and others have done it much better (thinks Valens legacy). Axel is a college student who is love with his best friend Holly. She ends up getting arrested for attacking a senior citizen, which doesn't make much sense since she would never hurt a fly. While Axel is on his way to the court house to support her, he is bitten by a homeless person. In the jury room they prosecutor shows a video of a man attacking the woman, but all anyone can think is that Holly is guilty and they send her to jail right away. Axel seems to be the only one who can see the video doesn't show Holly. In the court house, Axel finds Holly's ex-girlfriend who is hidden by a glamour but he can see her. Turns out Axel has Vampire genes that have never awakened until the homeless man bit him. She awakens him and tells him about the Fae.
Alex gets chased pretty much by everyone in this book. There are separate factions in this world. There are the humans, the pure bloods and the hybrids. They all seem to be after Axel for one reason or another.
This book triggered some of my pet-peeves. The first one is that the odds are too stacked against Axel and his friends. With the scenario that is set up in this story, there is no way he can win, especially with the time frame he is given. If he would have gone into hiding and tried to get stronger and come up with a plan of attack, it would have been alright. Instead he has to do impossible things within 2 days of him becoming an awakened vampire. There is a litRPG component of character building in which he uses points to increase stats. This wasn't written very well either. The author stated that when stats are increased, the person needs to be eat a lot of food because the energy for the upgrade has to come from somewhere. Axel is told to be careful with his upgrades but he doesn't listen. As soon as he has any energy he spends it on an upgrade, even if there is no food around. His stats increase dramatically just within 2 days which doesn't make sense based on what Holly's ex-girlfriend said. (she has been a vampire for much longer and yet, he seems to catch up to her after only 2 days?)
Overall, nothing really excited me enough to read the next book.
Read this book today, and actualy a very good story.
the Lit-RPG factor of the book seriously detracts from my enjoyment of the story, e.g. all the Stat descriptions and power ups etc. Snor!.
but the bright side What I liked:
MC is sympathetic, easy to like and root for. Villains are complex and interesting. story world is a fresh spin on known elements. Sex Scenes are great!
downside: it's a bit short. but it's also the first episode of a series, and there is enough change in the MC, and enough conflict resolution that it still feels a complete story. lit-rpg factor, sorry I am not a fan. the story would works so much better without the "Game mechanics" part of it. but hey I guess folks like that. I will say it was not as distracting as some other stories.
all in all a very entertaining story. looking forward to more.
Ok, I didn’t love this book, but I liked the genre it was in, it has a decent pacing, it’s just the logic of the work that really didn’t allowed me to give it more love. First is the species that every supernatural thing out there is a Fae….yeah it doesn’t feel right all together, but heck I can deal. But the opposition to have such a huge advantage over Alex and that he survives this long with stakes so high against him?? I mean the Plot Armor in here is too obvious, the fight in the Vampire Bar, he shouldn’t have survived that, it was only the author forcing the plot that saved him (not convincing development at all). As I mentioned before the stakes where to high against MC for him to be able to survive this long without some serious backing which a single rogue vampire chick it isn’t. Well it’s not a bad book for first timer reading this type of genre. Maybe I will pick book two.
I really liked this book. The author kept me engaged with the story and very entertained. Overall I really liked the characters and the advancement of the plot. I recommend you read this book if you enjoy fast paced book's.
This was a very good, quick and light read. Interesting and new concept featuring the nerdy kid who can’t get the girl to save his life, only to discover that he has all this power and undiscovered potential locked inside him just waiting to be unlocked. Fast forward to also discovering that his new found talents reveal him to be some sort of prophesied savior to the mythical far race. Honestly just rereading what I wrote made me realize how cliche this entire book could have easily turned out to be. Instead it felt fresh in some aspects. My only gripe is all the gratuitous sex. We find out he’s a “virgin” but the second he’s alone with a new girl he’s in a car fingering her while she’s driving 100+ mph? It’s unbelievable, also we’re led to believe he attempted this all one handed (left hand unbuttoning her pants and sliding his fingers Home), while each is strapped in with their seat belts and the pangs of good hunger settling into their stomachs?
I will start this by saying, when it comes to fae, I dont really know a lot. Wearwolves, vampires, elves...these I have read a lot about. This book opened up a new look at these beings and really made me think about it. I love the fact that the author has also put a lot of thought into this world they created and even explains the reasoning behind WHY things are that way. Case in point, the reasoning behind why fae and wood dont mix well makes sense, even though in most stories with fae, it is iron that is a problem (learned this from my wife). There were a few inconsistencies, such as at one point they talk about Holly's orange jump suit after she had already changed out of it, but it was still a great story and cant wait to read the next.
Ok: this series is a very (!) physical and straightforward fantasy harem story with light game lit elements. Having said that though, the actual way it does that - the world, the magic system, the races, the blood, the characters, etc. - make for an interesting and unique story. While you might have come mainly for the sex, you find a good story; so much so that the sex starts getting in the way later on. (There’s nothing wrong with the sex scenes, it’s just the the characters and story are better.) Things just keep getting more interesting as you read, and there’s no better recommendation than that.
A good story, a mediocre delivery. In a crowded genre, particularly one as prone to crap as Harem LitRPG, it’s easy to get lost. I like the world that author presents, it’s well thought out, perhaps a tiny bit hokey, but it’s enjoyable. The characters are a trifle flat, but interesting enough to keep you reading. I’m going to give the second book a read, I just hope the characters mature and the writing strengthens.
This book wasn't what I was excepting, instead it went above and beyond. Character's that should have been good guys were bad guys and the bad guys were very bad. Watching the main character's story develop you have to feel for him and cheer him on as he gets new powers and women. Can't wait for the next book!!
Axel has a major crush on Holly. She is taken and along with her former girlfriend they set out to rescue her. Problems jump up and interfere with their plans. Answers are hard to come by as he develops power and skills. I like the action, humor, and romance. The main character is compelling yet sympathetic. I look forward to the next book.
Haven't read other reviews, but I am wondering why the low ratings. I would hope they weren't prudish in nature because the love scenes are just that LOVE scenes. If that is the reason, I would suggest that you do some research on Chakra healing and Tantric sex. Can't wait for the next book!!
Axel did not know he was special. Then his good friend and loved was keeping it from him but when Holly is arrested Axel's life changes. Morgan's is a fae camp and finished his camp activation. They work together and find and save Holly. Holly activates Axel's fae Elf side. What is next.
This first entry into a new series is surprisingly good. Be warned, the sex scenes are rather graphic, though still thoroughly enjoyable. I enjoyed the new take on vampires and fae. All in all, good first book.
This is my first book by Noah Fox and I'm looking forward to reading more great stories from this author, just a great book, I couldn't stop reading it, thank you Noah
This is a very different kind of book. It is the kind of book that a person has to read for themselves to appreciate. I just hope the next book is as good.
This was a decent read. The story plot though is something that i have read before. Valens legacy... etc Overall it is a interesting world the author has built.
