Better the Devil you know.

Eliot and Charlie were childhood friends but circumstances split them up and for ten years they hadn't seen each other until Charlie came back home to be a reporter. The Riddles are an old money family in Sierra Vista. The oldest son Slate goes missing and the police department is stretched thin so Lieutenant Bryce wants to temporarily promote Eliot to detective to find Slate. Charlie has been given the task to investigate and write this story, seems everyone thinks Slate is a perfect gentleman but Charlie hears rumors to the contrary. After finding each other again through a tip as to where Slate frequented, Eliot's happiness turns to disdain at Charlie's profession, the pair could never mix as it would cause conflicts of interest and accusations. Sadly the pair part ways but a wise lady makes Eliot think again and their relationship blossoms. Progress with the case is slow, most thinking Slate already dead, but events in the local park and a foiled kidnap attempt make the dynamic duo pool their talents and come to the loose conclusion Slate and others were targeted by possible sex traffickers. Meanwhile one of Eliot's coworkers is stirring up trouble behind the scenes with work and Eliot and Charlie's relationship, which is the last thing they need when Charlie discovers his predicament. A genius idea starts the case moving fast leading to a heartbreaking but happy conclusion and the realisation of a sick betrayal on all levels that nearly ends in tragedy, but not one to sit on the sidelines Charlie slams in to save the day and their future. Enjoyable story and plot, well written and some really nice side characters, also sickening to know this happens everyday in real life. Makes you take a step back and count your blessings. I received a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second chance romance between Eliot and Charlie. They were best friends while growing up until Charlie left and moved away. Years later, Eliot is now a police officer and is asked to head the investigation into the disappearance of a young man from a very wealthy and well known family. Wile Eliot is investigating, he comes across Charlie, who is now a reporter and working on the same case. Charlie and Eliot are still attracted to each other and Eliot wants to ask Charlie out, but when he learns Charlie is a reporter, he thinks it could never work between them. Charlie is disappointed, but he understands. When Eliot talks to a friend, he thinks about how he wants to be with Charlie and decides to try and convince Charlie for another chance. Things go well between them, but the case is heating up and could cause problems. I really liked this story. I liked Charlie and thought he was a strong omega and knew what he wanted. I think Eliot was confused but i think he really did love Charlie. Eliot wanted to be a good cop and he wanted to trust Charlie, but he didn't trust other reporters. I really enjoyed the friendship between Eliot and Georgia. Good one.

Eliot loves being a cop. He loves helping people any way he can. When he’s temporarily promoted to Detective to investigate a high profile missing persons case he jumps at the chance to finally show what he can do. However, during his investigation he comes face to face with a blast from his past...his childhood best friend.

Charlie is an investigative reporter. He loves what he does and is great at it. He’s assigned to report on the high profile missing persons case. The last thing he expected was to get arrested and the arresting cop turning out to be his childhood best friend Eliot.

Old sparks fly between the two but tensions also mount when Eliot learns that Charlie is a reporter. He strongly believes that all reporters are the enemy of cops. As reluctant as Eliot is in getting involved with Charlie there’s no denying their attraction. Even though they haven’t seen each other in years it’s like no time has past and yet at the same time they are learning each other again.

The chemistry between these two is palpable and their history makes it even more intense. I love friends to lovers books and this one was well done. I’d like to have had more of their story but overall I enjoyed the book.

This is a really great book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Eliot is a great police officer who gets the chance to prove his worth of becoming a detective with a high profile case of a missing 17 year old boy. Things get a little complicated when he runs into he best friend Charlie from high school who disappeared on him, who is now a criminal reporter . Thier connection of friendship and also Alpha/Omega connection is still just as strong as back then. But Eliot believes that they cannot be close because of the who cop and reporter's don't mix.
This is an amazing book, that is so well written that you need to see how it ends. Which make for a tired morning after being up way to late to finish the book. Which tells you it is brilliant and must be grabbed asap, you won't regret it. It is way to good to miss.

Can a cop and a reporter survive as a couple? especially in an environment that pits them against each other in the media or in the perceptions by members of the department?

an imaginary need to know details that could harm others can put the people in dangerous situations in greater jeopardy.

the press can however also be a tool for law enforcement to reach or funnel info.

Can Eliot and Charlie rebuild the friendship they once had, as well as something new and amazing?

What about their co-worker? An officer who seems to know things he maybe should not, and be unexpected places. A jealous writer trying to one up Charlie?

An m/m and mpreg story that is steamy, action packed, and full of various aha moments.

Eliot is a cop who is temporarily promoted to detective to work a suspected kidnapping case.
The son of a prominent family, Slate Riddle has been missing only four hours but the rumours have already got him kidnapped and sold to a sex ring or murdered.
Charlie is a newspaper reporter, he is given the story and goes off to try to get the inside story. Quite literally he bumps into Slate’s mother and she gives him some information about her son.
When Eliot and Charlie meet they recognised each other. They were childhood friends and had started to become more, when they lost contact when Charlie had suddenly moved away.
As the case becomes more involved so do Eliot and Charlie.
I found this story to be a little slow and only picked up the pace right near the end.

These 2 guys think they have it all figured out, work is all they need, no need for love or relationships. Besides cops and reporters are like oil and water, no way that can work. When this tough alpha cop turned detective and this spunky successful omega report meet, they realize that they are old school friends who haven't seen each other in years and sparky flies, just like old times, but can they really make it work. Very well written, a story line that draws you in and keeps the pages turning to see how it all works out. Do they fall in love, do they find the missing boys and who took them? Plenty of twists and turns and steamy scenes

Missing your love is a fantastic, and gripping tale. Elliot is a police officer of Sierra Vista who is investigating the disappearence of a young man who is well know in his town. Charlie is a reporter placed in finding out more about the disappearence of Slade Riddle. The two had been best friends in high school, but had lost touch with each other over time. They realize they both still have strong feelings for each other, but now they can't even be friends because of their careers. Elliot sees reporters as the enemy. They spread rumors, untruth, and fear mongering as far as he is concerned. Can they overcome their differences? Can Elliot see past the reporter to the person Charlie really is? Do opposites really attract, or is that a lie?

The book wasn't what I was expecting but the storyline was definitely something new. The author knows how to keep things going.

Character breakdown;

Eliot: I liked him at first but the man got a bit annoying after a while. Then I liked him then I'm like "are you dumb?" Lol it was an emotional roller coaster ride.

Charlie: liked him from the beginning felt for him and loved that he stood up for himself no matter what.

Pretty good book though I felt that the heel was to obvious and the police too stupid lol. Still entertaining to read.

They were once friends, but can they be lovers. Eliot and Charlie are not exactly on opposite sides of the law, but with Eliot a cop and Charlie an investigative reporter, their goals and priorities are bound to clash. But with a boy missing, they need to work together if they are going to find him and bring him home. The author wrote great, authentic characters, and makes their connection and eventual romance believable. There are some nice steamy scenes, too!

The writing was brilliant, as always with Austin Bates. I loved the idea of the story... a cop on a career making case and a reporter trying to write history. The fact that they were friends in another life is just icing for the storyline.

I didn't love, however, that they were so mean to each other when they fought. It seemed a little too much to me, then there was not really anything else that made their relationship believable. I guess for me there was just too much off the page.

Elliot and Charlie lost touch years ago, and the sparks of youth feel stronger. Elliot takes an extreme stance to Charlie being a reporter. Even his supervisor rails against reports and they are scum of the earth. Elliot also mistreats Charlie. An interesting read, both of them searching for a missing young man. The portrayal of the idealic Sierra Vista made me laugh out loud. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Eliot and Charlie where friends years ago, and now they reconnect and it turns into more. Eliot isn't sure how they are going to make it work with his and Charlie's professions. Eliot is a cop and Charlie is a reporter. Eliot pulls his head out of his bottom...and realizes it's worth it. Very well written, with a great story line and equally great characters. Would def recommend, this friends to lovers to hea!

Jobs can complicate relationships. Delightful second chance for childhood friends to become so much more. I really enjoyed Eliot and Charlie's story and how they reconnect. These MC's are both dedicated to their jobs and their is intrinsic mistrust between their careers. The plot created an interesting read that i really enjoyed.

Awesome story with lots of connection between the MC's. I liked how their relationship grew and how they worked together to solve the case.

Interesting second chance-ish romance between an Alpha who went on to be a cop and an Omega who is a great reporter. We've got the struggle of their romance set against trying to find a missing kid, keeping his name in the news so that he can be found, and tracking down the guys who took him.

Overall I liked both characters, but Eliot was kinda jerk sometimes, and he really needed to get smacked by a cluex4.

Craft lessons!

While searching for a missing youth Police Officer Eliot gets upgraded to Dectective for the case.
There while following a lead to a sex club he sees his long lost childhood friend Charlie.
Unfortunately Charlie is a Reporter, which Eliot feels is not a good mix.
The storyline is excellent and I couldn't stop reading it until the end all in one evening.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author, and it didn’t cause a very good impression, it was just inverossímil, the “omega” acted like a low self esteem girl (couldn’t even call him a woman) it was just unimaginative and at times just wtf impossible to believe this characters.

No había leído nada de este autor, quería probar y éste tenía buenas críticas.
A mi no acabó de convencerme, demasiados tramas a la vez, demasiado precipitado todo y demasiados personajes pero sin profundizar en nada
