“Even when I couldn’t remember your name, my heart knew your face. It knew the way you moved and the way your skin felt against my own. You and I are so much a part of each other, all the magic in the world couldn’t make me forget that we belong together. Nothing is ever going to change that. Not even death.”
What an action pack ride we got.
Cannon starts the book immediately after we end Beyond the Darkness and we start in a high note and never lets it down. I swear I felt as if my heart was gonna come out of my mouth thanks to the never-ending action and precarious situations the characters were in.
If it wasn't one thing then it was another, either way, the adrenaline rushing through me just kept coming. I don't think we got a real moment of peace and quiet in the entirety of the book, which is a wonderful thing, of course.
"It was the kind of moment that defined an entire lifetime."
To be completely honest I had already forgotten most of what happened in the last book and so I was mostly clueless about the direction things were gonna take. Of course, while I was reading I kept having this "Oh right! That happened" and "Now I remember that" every few couple seconds for the first couple pages. Cannon brought me back to speed easily and didn't waste time in dull remembrances instead doing it at the same time she was expanding and building to what this book was all about.
The fight against The Order of Shadows is at an all-time high and things need to bend one way or another in order to really get a feeling of who the winner may be.
Trust is a scarce resource and the constant wondering of who can I trust is something that needs to become a norm. Even with the people you would have trusted with your life.
Here is one of my biggest complaints, it was too obvious.
I knew since the last book who was the traitor and who was the ally. It wasn't that hard to guess and, well, I've read enough books by now to be suspicious of whom you shouldn't and trust the least likely party.
“People can be made to believe just about anything if the story surrounding it is good enough. Most people aren’t really willing to look past their fear.”
We are, kinda, of introduce to the big baddy, finally, and start to realize just how deep and hard things really are. How much more there still is to explore and discover and, ultimately, destroy.
I like how Cannon has created a defined and extense world. When you dab with this kind of subjects you can always have the opportunity to create something beautiful and complex and she definitely took the opportunity and used it wisely.
Whenever I learned something new about the world it just felt right and like a logical next move or something that made sense to exist between the boundaries of the world. Something that is way harder to achieve than most people believe. Still, I believe Cannon did it just right.
“We could wait a lifetime for a single moment without worry and never find it.”
I'm just incredibly happy to finally have a staminate of books left in the series and how much longer this is gonna go on. Not because I don't love this world, but simply to know.
At the same time I'm sad that it's gonna end, but, well, I'll still have them to re-read them whenever I want to, so, all is fine in the world I guess.
"She had also taught me that as long as you believe in something with all your heart, there is nothing that can stand in your way." __________________________
This was intense!
I'm absolutely in love with the direction this series is taking and can't wait for the next book to come out.
I also can't believe that there are just two more books left and, that means, I'll probably be finishing this series next year. Unbelievable. At the same time, it fills me with a lit of sadness to think it's gonna end and I won't have that looking forward to more anymore.
Full review to come. ___________________________
Incredibly enough I've been reading this series for 3 years now and I can never forget how much it surprised me with that first book and continues to do so.
It's been a little more than a year since I read the last book and to be honest the events of the last two books have become a little blended. I have a sort of idea of what's coming up but nothing concrete.
I just want to see more of this world and follow it up to a conclusion.
Has Sarra Cannon said how many books will the series have? I'm kinda guessing the same amount than the first half had, but I guess will see.
Cannon takes us, the reader, and drops us right where these beloved characters left off. She then pushes down on the gas pedal and doesn't let up. Twist and turns for the entire book left me at the end of my chair and biting my nails in anticipation.
Then there is the whole will they wont they between Areden and Lea. Now that she knows his true feelings will she give in and make the readers and most importantly she and Areden happy? *You will have to read the book to know. No spoilers from this reader*
As the book becomes more intense Sarra throws in some surprises and victories that brought this reader to tears. The connections between her characters are always so chalked full of emotion and realism. I couldn't stop the tears even if I wanted.
Then we moved toward the end and bam...another twist, another surprise, and another tragedy. So good!
Knowing that there are only two books left of this series you can really feel it winding down. That the group is getting one step closer to ending the war one way or another. However, at the same time Cannon just set up the next book with another epic adventure that I for one am looking forward to reading.
I could gush all day about how good this book was, but I will stop typing and let you read for yourself.
This book was an action-packed book. Now that I am caught up with this series. I have to wait like all of Sarra's fans until she gets the 11th book out in this series. Can't wait to see what's going to happen next in the series.
One of the things I love most about these books is that even if you don’t re-read them before the newest release it’s written in a way that explains information that you need to remember. This book weaves between character POV so well, it was never once confusing and it would switch right when you’re on the edge of the seat. Right when you think you have figured it out.. new information comes forward that opens the story even more. I loved everything about this book, the action, the love, the bond between everyone, the fear of battle, and the excitement of wins. I’m so excited for book 11!
This is another in the series. I thought it would be the last, but no! Very similar storyline running through each of the books. A rescue tends to lead to short-lived celebrations before another obstacle is in the heroes’ paths. Very easy reading, descriptive, but a little monotonous. Only reading now, as 10 books in, I feel I have to 🙁
I’d like to start by saying that Sarra Cannon is a great author
I’d actually stopped purchasing ebooks after the Kindle process became tedious, returning to my first love of paperbacks. Plus I don’t have as much leisure time for reading. But I came across the first 3 books free and said why the hell not, thank goodness for the algorithm!
I’d say the most recent fantasy/paranormal series’ I’ve read would be the All Souls trilogy or Dragon Hearts Legacy. But I hadn’t read such an extended ya series since Pittacus Lore, and let me tell you I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Lorien Legacies and all stories that branched off from the original. I recommend it every chance I get on Reddit.
So let’s talk about what the above books have in common with the Shadow Demons Saga. Great world building!!! When I talk about great world building, I mean the author was so thorough in her description it played out like a film before my eyes! You have to go to her website to get the exact reading order, but I think 1-6 is like part one. When I tell you I CRIED when I got the finale of book 6, I mean BUCKETS, I should’ve been embarrassed because I’m a grown woman but it was just so well done. Now books 7-10 were different, as a reader I became naturally suspicious of everyone’s motives and also felt like there were moments the characters ignored things that they clearly took a moment to take notice of, this part annoyed me. This book in particular made me slightly emotional, no buckets just teary eyes because Magda has a great story arc. I think the best thing about Harper, our mc, is her empathy, and kindness, and her belief that a person can be redeemed. It really resonated with me, especially in the world we live in.
These are great books that are paced very well, not too short or long, it’s in the sweet spot. Sarra does a great job of keeping you hooked and thirsting for more. This could be a bad thing if you’re like me and lose sleep because you can’t put a book down. I was only able to pace myself because I was switching between ebooks and paperback. I’m caught up and impatiently waiting for book 12 which is supposed to be the finale…I guess I’ll go back and read all those side stories I skipped
I liked this book, I did. And I loved many aspects of it. Especially all the betrayal and sabotage we discover int his one.
I do feel like we lost the plot just a bit for character stories and weaving in the past and things, but I do like the blurring of the lines between enemy and ally.
As usual, though, I love this series and I cannot wait to see where it goes next. Sarra Cannon writes some of my favourite books. And this story is one I think about often. It has so much in it. And I'm excited where we explore next.
I just think some things were spent a bit too much time on as there are a lot of issues with relationships and personal feelings. We do see quite a bit of character growth in this book though and that might need to be the focus for where the next book takes us.
I also love the banding together of three normally separate forces, four if you count the surprise character change that happens.
I felt like I got through this so FAST!! There was so much action and suspense.
The only reason for a 4 stat rating is because this is book 10 in a serial, repeating stuff from the other 9 books, I feel, was not necessary. I actually hate it when serials do that. For me, its like fluff to boost the word count. I understand it may serve a purpose of refreshing memories but I still dont like it.
Overall, this IS a 5star book. I loved all the twists and turns in this one especially after what happened toward the end of book 9. I was so upset about that, I took a haitus from this series lol. Anyway, I cant wait to see what happens next!
OMG this book was absolutely nerve racking! It was great. I re-read the series from the beginning prior to reading book 10. This book by far was the most action packed and amazing so far. I can't wait for the next book. I can't wait to find out the truth about the High Priestess. My guess is she is a demon from the mysterious list continent. But she could also be the original half-demon born all those years ago.
Another great entry into the series and it's totally ramping up. It really was clever the plan to take out the amethyst priestess but man they got fucked by their betrayer. I won't say who since that's spoilers but it was a great reveal.
It also makes sense since I never understood how they were captured by the emerald people and was just sitting in a cage and not shoved into a witches body immediately. There's a hint. 😉
I am nearing the end of my Shadow Demons Saga book binge and am beginning to lose interest in the series. I found Deceiving Darkness to be lackluster and without mystery. Granted this series is intended for a YA audience so a certain amount of predictability is on par, but I saw the "twist" for this one coming books before it was revealed. This once intriguing and surprising series has started to become very predictable, which is frustrating as a reader. It feels like we aren't gaining ground in the series and that each book has us treading in place with our heroes. Now, it could be that books 9 and 10 are primarily set up for what happens in 11 and beyond - but at this point, it's hard to stay interested when the characters never seem to get anywhere in obtaining their goals.
OMG this series just keeps getting better talk about nail bitting edge of your seat momoents. just when you think all is lost theres a massive twist i definitely didnt seem coming. love this serise so much jackson and harper surley deserve there happy ever after dont they. cant wait for the next book :-)
I can't wait for the next 2 books and I don't want it to end. The story keeps you guessing and trying to figure out who is good and who is a betrayer. I know you will love this story in addition to all books written by Sarra Cannon. Thank you for continuing to keep me reading.
Excellent as usual. I took a long time to read it because I lost interest in the story around 20% in. But when I picked it up later on I just could not put it down. I am awaiting the next book to find out what happens after the ship arrives at destination. I waited a few years for this one so I can wait again.
The books just get better and better! I love the character development and storyline. The whole story is fresh and new compared with similar books. The world that was created for the demons, the friendship, the twists, danger and adventures keep me on the edge and wanting to read this series straight through to the end.
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through! Just when you think you have it figured out Sarra will throw in a twist you never saw coming! Packed full of adventure, trust, teamwork and heartbreak it will be almost impossible to put down!!
What a fantastic addition to this saga!! Sarra has you gripped from start to finish. Could not put it down. The Shadow Demons Saga is one which you can revisit again and again.
I so totally thought they would get another priestess in this book. They did but not in the way I was thinking. An ally is worth more. But who is the diamond priestess? Is she a demon or fae?
The series continues in fine style. We learn more about the high priestess and the ruby priestess. with a traitor in their midst, things are even more difficult. Another excellent book. Two more to go.
Another amazing adventure with the Peachville demons. Beautifully written. Highly recommend this series. Currently the first 3 are free!!!! Check them out fall in love with these characters!
This is another book in the Shadow Demons series, and each book in this series continues to astound and make you want more. This particular book has several surprises in store that make the reading absolutely riveting!
So much gets put right and still so many questions
I am so glad I found this series later so I could read 13 books in a row....Now I just have to wait for the last 2....This one got us some answers to some questions but there is still so much to learn...
I bought this book as soon as it came out but never had time to read it until now. I must say that I still love it. The series has not lost its charm since the first day Harper arrived at Peachville. Patiently waiting for the next one.
So exciting, so intriguing, so much love, so much power, so much happiness, so much sadness, so much betrayal, so much loyalty, & so much mystery. I can’t wait to find out more. SO AWESOME!!!
Deceiving Darkness (The Shadow Demons Saga Book 10)
Some is betraying the Rebellion. Will they find out who is the traitor before they are destroyed. Will Jackson tell Harper what he give up for her? Will Lea forgive Jackson and Andros?
Sarra Cannon is a terrific storyteller! The pacing, hooks, and twists always keep me turning the pages. Every reveal leads to more exciting obstacles and epic battles. I love the character of Harper and her found family, and I can’t wait to see what happens in book 11!
I thought when I started the first3 books, that it ended there. But when I went looking for more Sara’s books I saw that there was many more. Now I just finished 10 and will read the last one. And again, it makes me a bit sad.
