The Astonished Earth: A Novel of Flight and Legends

Rate this book
"4.7 of 5 Stars-IndieReader Reviews and IndieReader Approved. The Astonished Earth is emotionally-laden, transformatively realistic, heavily researched, and almost nonchalantly transporting. If historical fiction ... is your thing, they don’t come much better than this." - IndieReader One hundred years ago, invention, adventure, honor and duty were the soul of the aviator.. Mankind looked at them with wonder, suspicion, fear, and faith. From this intersection in time, a new modern folklore emerged. The Astonished Earth is a revealing, breathtaking journey into the untold story of the legends of early aviation. Fokker, Garros, Strange, Immelmann, Boelcke, Hawker, and Richthofen. Icons all. Legends rise.

When I was in middle school, my brother did a report on WW1 aviation. From him, I learned about the legends that made air fighting possible and how chivalrous they treated these duels. But I was disappointed to learn that there were no novels about the topic...until I read this. This book takes the reader on a journey through WW1's early aces and the tragedies and triumphs they experienced. Detailed, flow is easy and all your favorite characters (Boelcke, Richthofen, etc.) are present. Follows history and makes these men more flesh and blood. Wonderful!
