Fun, quick, and very informative read about one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Unlike many pieces on these Hall of Famers, I’m glad I’ve hung onto the books in this series because they give you a solid glimpse into these superstars and help you recognize how it wasn’t always smooth sailing for them. For all of his on-field successes, Mays did a lot of work off the field, and was not always successful. When he passed earlier this month I didn’t feel so much sadness as gratitude that he was able to live a long full life.

The book called “Willie Mays” written by John Grabowski is about Willie Mays life story of Willie. When he was little he didn’t have a dad. His mom was one of the most inspiring person of his life. He turned out to be in love with baseball and became one of the famous baseball players ever. With playing baseball, having to go into the army, to come back out and make history throughout baseball years that he played. Conflict that happen is with getting out Willie started slowing down in his final years of playing and this caused him to not do so good. He ended up making the 500 home run leader boards with crushing out 660 total. Willie ran into problems with being switched around on teams. The cubs came close many years to the playoffs but they wouldn’t make it and this frustrated Willie because he was one of the best players to ever play baseball.
I recommend this book to anyone. Even if you don’t like sports or think this is just another story of someone. This book is touching and inspire anyone that reads it, from hearing of him having to go to the army at such a young age and still come back to baseball making history and the hall of fame. Personally I love baseball so this book caught my eye and right away I got into reading it without getting bored. I would rate this book 5 stars and hope that many other people will read it! There is many times that you don’t want to put the book down and you want to know what happens next in WIllies life.

This is a biography book which is talking about how Willie Mays became a famous baseball player. He was the one of the players in the famous New York. This story tells us how Willie really insisted with his goals and how he kept practice. Because of his persistent hard working and strong wills, finally he became a very famous baseball player.
This a true story about a ‘black’ baseball player, Willie. He never gave up practicing and training. The whole book uses a style of pictures style to narrate the story.
So, this is a good book for parents and children to read together. The whole book is full of positive energy and with lot of positive things there. It’s a really great book to educate kids.

I bought this book in a second hand store to give to a friend who likes Willie Mays. I decided to read it. I learned a lot about Mays just reading this short book. He was a great player and I got a better idea of baseball in the 1950's since I started following it only in 1965. I also learned about the 3 major league teams in NYC all at one time.
