Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
This book two in the haunted village series. Abel worthe's sick experiment continues on in the village but now there are two new subjects - a married couple who are brought to this village of the dead and a new threat, the ghost of a vicious serial killer whose weapon of choice is a mason's hammer. Will the subjects survive? Or will they become the new ghost next victim?
This book was very well written you can tell that the author put a lot of time and effort into his writing. There's a great cast of characters and you slowly get to learn a little more about them as the story continues. You get to learn a bit of abel worthe's past and sort of get an idea as to why he's doing this crazy experiment. Marcus and Alex have formed quite a strong bond and i feel like you really get to see that in this book.I found it crazy that one of worthe's employees actually seemed to believe in what abel worthe was doing and made me think that maybe he's just as crazy as abel worthe himself. There is however an employee who doesn't agree with with what abel worthe is doing.
I enjoyed reading this book, there were some things that happened in the book that really took me ny surprise. I highly recommend this book.
I recommend this book to: anyone who loves a good very dark horror story, if you like stories with malevolent ghosts.
This is the second book in this series and the main characters are becoming a lot more fleshed out. Marcus is forging himself as the hero here and the new ghost on the block - Oskar - is the supernasty villain. Oskar does his victims in with a hammer, and he does it with relish (and I don't mean the kind you slather on a hot dog). Bring into this dynamic a newly married couple whose marriage crumbles and you have the stuff of delicious nightmares. Ron Ripley has yet to let me down with his work. One might suspect that after as many books as he writes that the characters and plots would become repetitive but that just doesn't happen. Sure, there are similarities but I have yet to become bored with these great stories.
The experiment by the psychopath Abel Worthe continues with the introduction of more unwilling residents to the village, but he continues to underestimate the resolve of the existing ones. Also as some staff who help with the experiment now find their consciounses being pricked, will Worthe trace the enemy within?
Thoroughly enjoyable and gripping as usual. I was also pleased to read the cameo appearance of Sean Ryan as I was thinking that the Berkeley Street house would be a worthy acquisition to the village when I read the first book, but it would be far too impossible to move.
I've decided to binge read the rest of the series during the current lockdown (Corona virus) as a treat.
Second book in the Haunted Village book series. I think this was better than the 1st book. Able Worthe sets up and experiment that involves people (not volunteers but kidnapped) and ghosts. This book introduces a married couple that are put in a haunted house with a ghosts that kills people in a very brutal way and, of course, enjoys it. Marcus and his young friend, Alex, need so save the couple from the ghost. The husband thinks everything will be ok if they don't resist but his wife Joyce thinks differently. Who is right and who is wrong? The author is doling out bits of information about the captives a little at a time and it gives you more background of the Subjects.
This is the 2nd book in the Haunted Village series. It focuses on another house the Able Worthe (a psycho) adds to his collection. The storyline is starting to get darker. The main characters are a husband and wife who are kept in a container until the house is ready. You have a ghost that likes to kill with a hammer. This book has enough blood and gore along with scary ghosts to keep you on the edge of your seat. This book leaves you wanting more yet it is not a cliffhanger. Thom Bowers does a great job with narration. I recommend this book.
Another riveting addition to the Haunted Village collection.
*Spoiler alert*
Abel Worthe is still acquiring houses and the dead that inhabit them. He is also still adding to the number of test subjects in his village. This particular book gives us more insight on the character of Professor Worthe. Subjects B and D are still surviving and have now been joined by Subject F. Where will the next installment take us?
*I received a copy of this book for free. The review is my own, honest and unsolicited.
I really wish I could give this book more than a five star rating!
Marcus and Alex are still prisoners in the village that is guarded 24 hours a day. They witness the arrival of another haunted house to the village, but know nothing about who haunts it....yet.
This is a fast paced well written book. If you love horror books I really recommend you read this book!
This is the second book in the Haunted Village Series and I think I liked this one even better than the first. Ron Ripley has not disappointed me! Marcus and Alex are still in the village and a new ghost is brought in. This ghost is more deranged and deadly than the others. I was hooked from page one, enjoy how little bits of information comes out detailing the characters lives. Wonderful book! On to the next!
Suddenly, bickering with your spouse isn't so bad War veteran, Marcus Holt, must face up against a ghostly murderer who kills with a bloody mason's hammer. Still trapped in Worthe's Village, Marcus tries to work out how he and Alex can survive the onslaught of terror dished out by Worthe and his soldiers. A bickering couple is added to the village, and Marcus struggles to rescue them before the ghostly murderer gets his hands on them.
I enjoyed the continuation of the story, an extra ghost, and the new subjects. I did feel the behaviour of the husband to be quite unbelievable though - if they have been together for years, i very much doubt he would have done what he did. Certainly not as quickly as he did.
Im intuiged to know more about the experiment and to find out what new ghosts will be added.
Book two of this series did not disappoint! I loved the first book, and the second was just as good.
Marcus and Alex have been doing their best to stay alive, battling the ghosts as needed in the village. However, their dynamic is about to change, as a new home with a new ghostly resident is moved in, and a newly married couple is abducted and held for the new ghost.
With a few twists and turns thrown in, this was a great read!
Full of wondering what's happening next and what ghost is going to turn up !!great characters even the ghosts have personality not always good same as real really lots of action and planning great read ,like the taster of the following book at the end just have to keep reading . wonder if Shane will put in an appearance !!!
After purchasing the first, I became hooked on this series. I love this spine-chilling horrifically creepy series. I am anxiously looking forward to reading the next book in the series and hoping for many more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The author always manages to take horror a step beyond what I was expecting. The details allow the reader to visualize the village as the story unfolds. A bit of gore at times but that's part of the scare factor for me. Another great read provided by my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I am 100% team Marcus and will continue to read this series. I have read other series written by this author and I enjoyed those as well. I like how this author builds his stories around the ghost and gives a hero to cheer on.
This story grabs you right from the start. I couldn't put it down. Oskar is terrifying and gave me nightmares. I think this is one of my favorites. I can't wait for the next book!
Always the best ghost stories and it was a nice surprise that Shane Ryan was included glad to know he is still about , I hope in one of these series both Marcus and Shane can fight together. I can't wait to read butcher's hand.
I don’t read horror, unless Ron Ripley wrote it. Once again, he sucked me in and had me staying up way too late. I can not wait for the third book in this series!
I was lucky enough to have gotten a free audio book code from the author. I am volunteering to leave this review. Great audio book can't wait for Shane to get involved.
