Jessica Riley would do anything for her best friend Addison, including be her maid of honor and meet all her increasingly crazy wedding demands. But that's because Jessica has Dallen, the best man, helping her navigate the trouble their respective best friends keep stirring up. Even though she and Dallen have only spoken online or in texts, their friendship forms fast and easy, and Jessica is beginning to hope that the wedding in Hawaii will become the start of something special for her and Dallen too. Except...Dallen dates braniac supermodels. And while Jessica is a brainiac, she has a bad feeling she won't be his type. Will their connection survive in real life?
Last week I read back to back to back Regency Romance novels. I can read one, or maybe two, but then my brain needs a break. Enter this lovely contemporary novella by Melanie Jacobson. It was the perfect break. I loved reading it. In fact, it left me wanting more!
I loved Jessica. She would be the best kind of friend to have. She’s always looking out for Addison. I loved how she and Dallen end up commiserating over the wedding details. They have quite a relationship going over text and email. I loved reading their texts. They were clever and they made me laugh.
I liked that Jessica was not perfect. She is just your average person, at least that’s what she thinks. She has body image issues, like a lot of women do. It just made her more real.
Then there’s Dallen. He’s a great guy. He puts up with a lot of junk from Addison as well. I loved how he put things together for Slade’s big surprise with help from Jessica. I liked the way he didn’t care about what was on the outside of the women he knew. He cared more about the inside.
The plot of this one is just fun! I loved the romance, I loved Hawaii. I was able to read this one in under an hour. It was the perfect break from real life.
LOVE BYTES is a sweet romance novella with great characters and a fun storyline. Definitely a short story I'd recommend to romance fans!
I was looking for something short and sweet one night and ran into this story when I was browsing. This author is one of my favorites and I didn't realize I'd missed a few of her releases so I picked this up. I was not disappointed! It was fun, sweet, romantic, and included this author's trademark banter and humor. Plus, the heroine was super easy to relate to. Who can't relate to misconceptions, trying to lose weight, self-image, finding love, and trying to learn to trust your heart to someone else and believe they are who they say they are? I also really liked Dallen, who had his own reputation to overcome. There were a few other characters that rounded out the story. It was also short so I could finish it easily in one sitting, which was what I was hoping for. I went to bed with sweet dreams.
In the end, was it what I wished for? Yes. Short and sweet with plenty of humor and swoon-worthy moments.
Short romantic story where the two main characters Jessica and Dallon are helping their respective best friends, the bride and groom, to navigate planning and implementing the wedding in Hawaii. However Dallon and Jessica have only communicated via email before the wedding…so what happens when they finally meet? Read to find out!
Probably could have been longer. Really enjoyed the content of the emails exchanged between Dallon and Jessica!
Cute novella, with the premise of two people connecting long distance over text/email while helping to plan their friends' wedding and then finally meeting in person at the wedding. I loved the humor and banter back-and-forth between the two leads. Lots of details and a fun novella!! I definitely could see this one being expanded into a longer story.
Jessica is maid of honor for her long time BFF, Addison, who is a classic bridezilla. Jessica has the patience of a saint as she puts up with her friend's endless, unreasonable--and often nonsensical--demands. Helping Jessica navigate the constant crises produced by her ditzy friend is Dallen, the bridegroom's BFF and best man. The two of them did not know each other before the wedding planning began, but they have been communicating with increasing frequency via text and email. In the process, they first become friends and then, separately, without either realizing it, they begin to fall in love.
This G-rated, romantic-comedy novella is a quick read. Fans of romance novels with no sex, whose plot centers around a wedding, will probably enjoy this story.
This was a fun short and sweet novella that was witty and drew you in from the beginning. Jessica and Dallen have a great connection from a distance and you can't wait for them to finally meet in person at their friends wedding. The characters seemed very real and I loved the humor in this book. Super Cute!
I've loved so much of Melanie Jacobson's writing and this one is a total miss for me. Addison is really fixated on her body and fatness and "getting healthy" which basically means her body being thinner. Sure, some of this insecurity comes from comments an ex made to/about her, but there was nothing that addressed the unhealthiness of her perspective. Dallen seems nice enough from their interactions and I think he's supposed to be a great dude because he liked who she was as a person and never asked for photos (even though he has a history of dating model-types). Jessica comes across as over-the-top as a bride, without enough time to get to know her and balance that to frame her as a friend that's worth the ridiculousness during this wedding period. A misunderstanding is neatly resolved and then everything fades in a neat happily ever after. It's a short read, but there are so many other, better Melanie Jacobson books out there that are absolutely worth reading.
Check the highlights I shared for examples of Addison's diet-culture comments.
Review: This book was more of a novella or at least book 1 as part of a series that took us from the meet-cute to the confessions, but no further. It was based on one of my favorite tropes - a texting relationship - that just never really took off. I needed witting back and forth banter, flirty innuendo, or something to buy into the relationship and that the first meeting was so anticlimactic, I almost didn't continue. The female MC (Jessica) needed to go to counseling to learn to love herself, and the male MC (Dallen), needed to do a bit more reconnaissance if he was really hoping to make something happen at the wedding they were attending. Anyway, just okay for me....
Cute cover. Catchy title. Started out great, but ended just okay. Seemed different from other books by this author. More main stream? Maybe that's why it was just ok. Clean. Witty. Cute. Fun story line
This was a sugary delight! Loved how our heroine had to work through body image issues in a real way. The conversation was catchy and cute and the plot quick- moving. This is a yummy treat with no guilt for extra evil calories🧁
1st didn't know I was reading a novella till it just ended, so... that didn't end well for me. Loved the characters and totally think they could have had a big, full novel story. I imagined it all in my head! So yeah, great, but sad there wasn't more.
Cute story, but I was disappointed in the worldliness of it. Two swear words, drinking, and a huge focus on "hot" girls. I loved the dialogue of the characters and think the story still could have been adorable without the focus on weight.
Between 2.5/3 stars. I knew this was a novella but it still felt too short. I also didn’t like all the focus on weight loss and whether Jessica was “hot” enough for Dallen to like her. Would’ve enjoyed this more had there not been so much attention on appearances. Felt very shallow.
Absolutely darling. I loved it. It’s a quick read but just so sweet and you fall in love with the lead characters immediately. I really wanted to read more of their story.
I just was not into this story. Addison sounded so high maintenance and Jessica so insecure that I didn’t enjoy the story as much as I had hoped to do.
So stinkin’ cute but way too short! There could be so much more to this story and I feel like I’m left with too many questions. Adorable couple and would love to see how their story ends.
i’m always entertained by romance stories developing from another romantic scenario like weddings. this is a quick and cute read perfect for the valentine’s season 🥰
