Prophets uv WAAAGH! iz a blast. dis audio iz from ‘da orks point uv view so ‘da wordy bits kan take some gett'n used ta but 'der's lots uv shoot'n an’ fight'n'
At only an hour-long this three-part audio-drama is a lot of fun. With a high production value there's plenty of bangs, clanks, gunshots, and WAAAGH! to be heard throughout the story. This is all told from the orkz POV including their lexicon (honestly this is half the fun) so if you don't have an ear for accents it might take some getting used to. Unlike many of the other BL short stories, this one is dripping with flavor that isn't just big guys with guns and questionable morals...okay that's pretty much what this was except funny.
The story is divided in three parts: The End of daze, Bozgat’s big adventure and the Waaagh! Faker. All of which are good but to a varying degree. The first story, the End of Daze, reintroduces the merry band of meks from Haleys other Ork storys. Uggrim, Snikgob, Bozgat and Frikk are all there, just as funny and awesome as always. The only one we’re really missing is Talker, the weirdboy and part of the story is about the lads trying to find out where he’s run of to. It’s a nice intro to the story, but could have delved a bit deeper in what happened before or during the crash. Bozgat’s big adventure gave me a few very nice surprises. The story focuses on Bozgat and Frikks search for the missing weirdboy, Talker. Frikk shines in the story and it’s hard not to love the little guy. Bozgat and Talker are both awesome as well, but you can’t help to feel that the grots steal the show this time. And I don’t complain. To once again get to see the Grot revolution and their “Kommittee” is pure awesomeness and nostalgia. Not to mention Frikk. Now I really start to understand why Finally we have the end in the Waaagh! Faker. A bit more action as the story draws to a close with orks vs. orks. vs. mechanicus and astartes and weird science for everyone! All of the band is together and races (quite literally, they are Evil sunz after all) to stop the mechanicus before their dastardly trap is sprung. It’s fun and it’s awesome. I just can’t help to feel like the Primaris are shoe horned in and quite frankly doesn’t add anything to the story.
All in all a great audio drama, but it would have been better as one whole story. When divided in parts things happen a bit too fast and end too soon. It would have gained quite a lot in my opinion if it had taken its time to grow.
Excellent music, voice acting, and sound effects. This audio drama is a good deal of fun and dips into the antics of orks. Grots get to shine a bit, and madboys show an odd bit of insight.
Really liked the idea of this one (especially after Brutal Kunnin' and the grot novellas were so much fun) but I gotta say it disappointed me. I don't know if it's because Haley doesn't have the Ork "voice" down as well as Brooks and Flowers, or if it's the need for a non-Orky (or at least Grot) perspective to tie the story together. But whatever it is, something seems to be missing.
The voices and ork language is funny and neat, but I just couldn't tell what was going on the whole time because there was no narrator. It was just orks making fun of each other. I think they might have been trying to fight some humans, but I'm not really sure.
Audio editing was poor - background sound effects drowned out the voices half the time. Disappointing compared to other Ork books such as Brutal Kunnin and Warboss (which are great!)
