This volume sort of felt like a vehicle to move the plot forward some more, introducing the Ministry and a handful of new characters. I can't say I was particularly intrigued by the more serious bits involving Katarina's dark magic side quest, but I'm biased because I don't read this series for its plot lmao. My favorite parts are always going be character driven, and there were certainly really enjoyable moments interspersed throughout (I especially love any info we learn about the central cast/seeing them interact in any capacity lol).

some highlights:
-Nicol being SO excited for boys' night is honestly the most adorable thing ever omg what is he so cute for???? The way he kept bringing it up and then Alan being like, :D yeah! boys' night!
"...Nicol, having lost his usual coldness, chatted happily with a similarly exuberant Alan."
like WHAT thats CUTE.... they're friends....
-Keith remains best boy for respecting Katarina's boundaries and also looking after her 24/7.
-Very small moment when Nicol assures Maria he'll get a room for her so she can spend the night with the other girls
-Jeord getting flustered at the end just from Katarina hugging him was sweet. wish we saw that side of him more.
-"what object do you treasure the most": Keith's being a watch his family gave him on his first birthday as a Claes T_T and Alan's being sheet music Jeord gifted him when their relationship improved T___T cute...

some lowlights:
-Laura's entire character being a blatant stereotype was...yeesh. It's never funny when these types of characters are the butt of the joke, but the author was dead set on "haha muscle man in dress gross!" for the entire book -_- At this point I've seen this trope enough in Japanese media where my eyes just glaze over.
-Dewey as a "love interest." I get that it's a play on otome games/media having a younger guy as an LI which does happen, but i'm seriously hoping he's just there for the gag.
"I wasn't into younger boys, but I felt like I was in danger of falling for him."
LMAO uhhhh lets hope not. he's 13. :)
-the pacing was off? tbh this happens anytime Katarina is separated from the main group the author should just avoid doing that in general.
-I'd like some other characters to get romantic development too!! >:T

overall i liked this better than the last few volumes! we had a couple of cute individual character moments (nicol being excited for a boys night party! jeord and the joy of a katarina hug! the favorite object choices in the last chapter!) and the best ship, katarina/maria, was back in full force (maria: speaks / katarina's internal monologue: that's my wife!!!!!). was disappointed in the transphobia with laura's character tho. :( listen, i don't need to hear about how weird katarina thinks it is that she's so muscled and masculine and yet calls herself a woman! i especially don't need to hear about it multiple times! hate what a popular 'joke' this character type is in manga and light novels. half a star lost for that

Katarina starts her first day at the magical ministry! Woop woop!

Admittedly, I got worried reading this volume partway through. We're introduced to a bunch of new characters (on top of the massive cast we already had) and I'm not sure how the author will give proper screen time to all of them.

I'm not sure how to put it into words, but the original cast doing business at the ministry feels too much of a coincidence. Plot-wise, it's probably because they want to stay near Katarina. But writing-wise... it was a way to sort of keep the cast relevant(?) or remembered(?) and i'm not sure how I feel about it.

I get that it's kinda tricky, because the way the plot is advancing guarantees most of the screen time for magical ministry members, so including the original LIs in future matters will be difficult (besides having them visit Katarina at the end of an adventure and being all worried about her). But I don't think I'd like the idea of the original LIs just casually popping up, idk why it just doesn't sit right with me.

On the topic of characters, I actually have taken a liking to the magical ministry characters, even Dewey. It's refreshing to see people *not* falling for Katarina. In fact, it was about time to see Maria lay on some of her protagonist charm on others y'know. Ngl, it kinda disturbs me that there's a potential romance between her and Dewey, mostly because he's barely a teenager and Maria's nearing adulthood. Maybe if they were *both* in their twenties I could stomach the relationship. But for now, it's a hard pass from me.

Speaking of Maria, I loved how she finally got angry at Katarina. It was satisfying to see an emotion besides glad and worried on Maria (even though she technically got angry because she was worried but hey baby steps).

Another character I'd like to bring up is Keith. Despite having confessed to Katarina (quite passionately) in the previous volume, Katarina seemed to decide to do nothing about his feelings. I know she only did so because Keith hadn't changed his approach towards her after confessing, but Katarina got embarrassed and red after Jeord confessed to her. I'm just baffled as to why she remains *too* comfortable towards him. If I had an adopted brother who confessed to me like that, I wouldn't be able to look at him the same way y'know. This is peak denseness smh.

I did, however, have mixed feelings when they were alone together and he pushed her onto his bed. I know it didn't turn into anything more... and I know Katarina should have been more aware in front of a man who repressed his feelings for almost 10 years... but that also doesn't grant Keith the right to blame it on her nightdress for tempting him to do something like that. I'm just thankful he had a lot of self control, so I'm forgiving both Katarina and Keith for now.

Plot-wise, I was pretty interested in how things were developing. I'm a sucker for the diverse-cast-of-characters-completing-a-quest-together trope (which is why I was so invested when Keith got kidnapped and Katarina travelled to faraway places in small groups). I did think the whole tanuki situation was a bit too random, but it got better once Maria pointed out that she could sense dark magic.

Throughout the novel, I just wished we got to learn more about the tool that let Pochi grow to the size of a dragon. Seeing as how Larna constructed the tool, I'd hoped we'd at least get insight on how the tool worked or how she constructed it.

If there was one segment I truly loved, it was the side story at the end. It's stories like those that make me want to genuinely root for Jeord and Katarina. I think that Jeord's character is interesting in general, so I really enjoy seeing him stray from the smiling and calm princely appearance he has to uphold.

A close second is the first chapter, where we got to read about Nicol, the flat-faced LI, get excited about talking with people until morning! And Alan joining in on his enthusiasm! These two guys are too precious, and if they had more one-on-one screentime with Katarina, I would change allegiances so quickly. This just shows more character development for Nicol because he can now maintain entire conversations with someone until morning. How great is that??

As for the writing style, I was sad that we resorted back to replaying the exact same scene that had just occured literal seconds beforehand. While it wasn't as bad as the first two volumes, I feel like the different perspective technique from the previous two volumes were such an improvement and it might've hit differently for me had that technique remained.

Overall, I still devoured the novel in no time, and squealed with glee at particular moments, so I'd say it's still a pretty darn good volume.

“I had hidden my true self since I was a child, and could veil my weak, tired moments with a smile. I never showed that side of myself, pretending to always be fine.
Most people were tricked by that... but not Katarina.
And then she would show me her kindness, like she did right now, without even realizing how much that meant to me.”

I have to say, i was much happier with this volume than i was with volume 5. And that's because this one actually continues the story. Volume 5 was really just a bunch of little vignettes and side stories and didn't continue anything. it was advertised as such, but meh, i wanted to see the story continue and not go backwards. So volume 6 was a nice change from 5.

In this one, Katarina graduates from the academy and now is working for the magical ministry alongside Maria and Sora. She learns through some visions that after she died in the original world, they released a sequel to the otome game where Katarina comes back and is a villain again with 2 new love interests. She, being the dense idiot that she is, thinks that with this new game the cast will try to exile, imprison or kill her, despite the fact that she isn't a villainess and everyone loves her.

She goes off with the afformentioned group to find out why Tanuki are attacking a farming village's crops instead of living in the forest. It's kind of reminiscent of the "Find Keith" Arc, but it's more light hearted since they're not worriedly looking for a family member that's being tortured.

I do have to say, as the series progresses, I'm actually liking the game's original protagonist, Maria, more. She really starts to grow on you after a while even though she seems to be the stereotypical "no fangs all sweetness" character. But her interactions with Katarina are really adorable. Not really a new fan of the young character Dewey but we'll see if he gets better.

We learn a few more things about Dark Magic in this one, and while it isn't the GREATEST volume by any means, it's definitely a step up from volume 5. and man... 6 volumes in and i STILL have no idea who she's going to end up with. That's pretty impressive. normally i can glean these things in volume 1, but in this one...they're doing a really good job of keeping me on my toes.

All in all the cast (Mostly *coughjeordocough*) the cast is still fun and i like almost everyone still. some are even growing on me.

A cute introduction to her working at the magical ministry and i'm looking forward to volume 7. Already ordered it. So yeah, easy 4 out of 5.

Katarina has graduated the Academy, but she's nowhere near ready to be married. In an attempt to delay her wedding as long as possible, she joins the Magical Ministry, although she's not allowed to tell others her Dark Magic familiar Pochi is the reason she's able to qualify. Then she learns through dreams that the game she's now living had a sequel---one that takes place at the same Ministry! With new love interests and new doom flags, can Katarina navigate a plot she's never played?

After the disaster that was the last volume, this one mostly gets back on track. Katarina is moving towards adulthood, which means a job, since she's not exactly thrilled about the R-18 implications of getting married. She's still as dense as ever when it comes to recognizing her own situations, though.

Once again there's a lot of Katarina's would-be love interests trying to trip each other up, which I'm not too keen on, but once the story moves to the Ministry proper, it focuses more on the type of organization this is and the people who work there. The main focus of this volume is Dewey, a 13-year-old genius who really hates Katarina for being able to join with no goals and no effort.

I still find this volume shakier than the first few. Handerson, a man who dresses like a woman and insists that others call him "Laura," really bugs me, and he's one of the major characters not just in this volume but likely going forward. On the other hand, I do like the way Pochi seems to be evolving, and the Ministry looks like it has at least a few more amusing secrets to uncover.

Overall this isn't the worst place to get back in, but depending on what you liked about the first few volumes, this one may or may not be back to what you'd want. I rate this book Neutral.

I adore this series, but I do have to say that I think this newest arc is....not great. For starters, there's a lot less of the main cast, with a much heavier focus on Katarina and Maria (which, I love how overtly gay they've been getting, but I miss the core cast and their dynamics). The new love interests (well, just Dewey so far) are really boring and honestly if we keep adding more people it's just gonna get super unwieldy and become repetitive and kind of boring. Also, Dewey is only 13?? And the cast are all 18ish now? I just think that's weird. Also, they've introduced a new character who is just. Transphobia central. And I don't like it! I do also dislike the doubling down on "it's just a video game" mentality Katarina has and all this "scripted event" this and "otome protagonist powers" that. At some point I just think its disingenuous to this cast to pretend like, well, it's all a game someone wrote somewhere so these things are just sort of meant to happen! Instead of like, this is actually a real world that Katarina is really in with real people who have emotions and wants and needs, not just scripted personalities.

I think this story would have been really much stronger if it had just ended after the graduation. I'm hoping it catches itself as the arc continues, but so far outside of a handful of elements and scenes, I'm pretty disappointed.

The development of the plot was kind of slow and not very engaging. The idea of chasing after tanuki isn't very interesting and the reveal about it being a result of dark magic is predictable. I don't read this series for plot but more for the enjoyable characters, though the cast of FL1 barely make an appearance here. As usual, the constant switching of 1st POV makes it hard to keep track of what is happening, and since it's in 1st person the author has to make Katarina simultaneously too perceptive (in order to relay important information to the reader) but also incredibly dense because that is part of her characterization. This problem would've been solved if the author used 3rd person omniscient, and we wouldn't need many chapters switching POVs just to see different characters' reactions.

Normally I find Katarina's dumbass character to be entertaining, but here it became grating because of how judgemental she was of Laura-- which often came close to outright transphobia. I didn't find these sections funny at all and wished she would just stop talking because it was hypocritical for her to be open-minded about the other characters but then think Laura is weird (and use that as a joke).

Overall I still enjoyed it, but the way the plot developed could've been better.

I needed something lighthearted after dnf’ing a more serious fantasy book. This fit the bill. It’s becoming more average but at least there’s new things happening and hopefully not another kidnapping plot! The author uses the annoying method of changing POVs to stretch the story line but all they do is recap the story and tell how awesome Katarina is, who is oblivious (fortunately) to all the heroine worship.

Again, I’m not sure I can wholeheartedly recommend at this point but if you liked the first bit of the series you might as well read the rest, right? Plus I’m following a fanfiction that goes further afield and I want to keep up with the main story to avoid spoilers.

Katarina graduates from the academy and there is a party at the castle. Sleepover party!
Through Acchan’s dream interference, Katarina learns there is a sequel to Fortune Lover, meaning more bad ends to avoid.
A new love interest Dewey dislikes Katarina until she proves she is more than just a bored noblewoman.
Their ministry test is to get rid of Tanuki ravaging farms but there is more to their presence than meets the eye. Aka dark magic familiar
A side story shows how the pajama came to be thanks to everyone trying to interrupt Geordo’s plans. He is irritated but Katarina calms him down and he is just so lovesick it’s cute!
Bonus manga at the end on what is their most important object

This book's content is take place after the story in the animation ss2. So, This is the first time I have ever read this novel and I really enjoy the story all the way. 5 stars for my first impression mostly come from my satisfaction with the comedy plot and how the author presents his character's point of view. I hope this series will continue to give me this satisfied, comedically, and heart-warming story in the future volume. Can't wait to read the next volume right now. (I didn't really buy it yet)

“When you don't know what you should do, concentrate on doing the things that you must do, one at a time. Eventually, you'll see the answer.”

I'm so glad to finally be at a point where I'm reading new things that the anime hasn't yet covered. Sora my boy is scoring points. It's a curious thing to see more of Maria. I'm eager to read the next book already now that the story is progressing. The way it ended with Sora’s words has me screaming yes, yes, YES!

Why?

Why do I love these books so much? Why can't I stop reading them. I love this story and these characters so much. I don't care if Fortune Lover gets 5 more sequels. I will read every adventure. More please!

There's so many points that alluded to who I think is going to end up with Katarina in the end. However, I think that it's kind of a toss up between two characters. Who will win her heart in the end I wonder....
