A serial killer comes calling…

After the devastating loss of his best friend in Kandahar, Kace Fox returns to his small Texas hometown, sells off his belongings and prepares to move as far away from anything and everything familiar as he can…Alaska. Hours before his flight, he learns the woman he had a fling with a few months ago—and can’t get out of his thoughts—is missing.

The small town of Blushing has a dark and dangerous secret. One that tried to kill Bree Burke and will come for her again. Kace puts his out-of-state move temporarily on hold to ensure Bree’s safety while law enforcement searches for the killer dubbed, Gingerbread Man.

When Kace learns the baby Bree is carrying very much belongs to him, he’ll put everything on the line to save mother and child.

Kace: Police and Fire Operation Alpha is by Barb Han. This is a cute novella. It is full of action and suspense with a little left for romance. Easily read in one sitting.
Kace Fox has finally finished and everything he wants to take with him is ready to go. He is headed for an oil rig in Alaska and a guaranteed job He is finished with the military and ready for the hard life on the oil rig. Now to face Kendra.
Kendra was trying her best to keep Kace here. She had missed her brother when he was overseas in the military and she thought it was time he stayed here. She was giving it every argument should; but it was too late. As long as Kace remembered his best friend, he couldn’t stay here. Why had Zeke who had come back from leave engaged to Bree Burke been the one to die? If Kace had told Zeke about him and Bree and their “night”, he wouldn’t have made a play for her. On the other hand, if Zeke had told Kace he had a thing for Bree, Zeke wouldn’t have spent that special night with her. No, he had to leave. He had gone out to the Hollow to think things over and he kept coming to the same conclusion-leave. Then he heard it, a scream. Was it an animal or a person? Immediately he went into soldier mode and stepped out to find where the noise came from. He found her in an old barn. Someone had beaten Bree very badly and she was unconscious. Picking her up carefully, he headed for his truck. He couldn’t chance the person coming back to finish the job. On t he way to the truck, he called the police and an ambulance came quickly. As soon as he could, he headed for the hospital. He was staying with her until she could leave the hospital.
When he got to the hospital, Bree was in a room but still unconscious. The doctor told them he was ordering more tests but she was stable. The sheriff came in to question Kace and reluctantly allowed him to stay. When Bree woke up, her first question was to the nurse. She wanted to know if her baby was all right! Kace was stunned. Bree was pregnant. Who was the father? He didn’t have time then to wonder any more because the deputy came in for questions. Kace was staying until Bree’s attacker was captured

A VERY SUSPENSEFUL THRILLER

An intense thriller to find and stop a serial killer. Kace returns home from overseas to sell everything and move to Alaska. He soon finds, Bree, has been kidnapped. She is the love from his fast and now vows to rescue her. An amazing rescue, but only to hear, her kidnapper has escaped. The major characters all have very interesting dynamics and bring many thrills to the storyline. Once she is released, Kace takes her to his family cabin to hide while the kidnapper and murderer is being chased.

Kace has been lost and thinks going to Alaska will help. He had spent an amazing weekend with Bree and then she was engaged to his best friend. Or so he thought.
Bree has always been in love with Kace but he is not ready for a relationship. Her friend, Zeke offered to marry her but she doesn't love him like that.
Kace has just rescued Bree after she went missing. Now they are in hiding and trying to figure out who took her. Kace is realizing he wants her forever. They have to find the kidnapper first.

Kace finally sees Bree again after being shocked his best friend was going to marry her and have his baby or so he thought. There's a serial killer out there and he had kidnapped Bree. Kace was on the verge of leaving for Alaska when he found out. So he goes looking for her and found her by accident in bad shape. So when he finds out the baby is his he will do everthing to protect them both. Lots of action, surprises and HEA.

One little thing can make all the difference

This is a suspenseful story that makes some realize what they really want, will they survive to see if they can make something of it? This is a good read, sometimes you don’t know what you have until you lose it.

Plenty of suspense and romance. One of those books that you hate to see end. Definitely going to be checking out more books by the author.

Good read

This is a good story with a HEA. It should have been a full length story- it felt like it was missing some expansion of the story

A great read

This is a great start to a new series. A strong hero mixed with a heroine whose both strong and yet really needs her hero too makes a wonderful story.

Novella?

This was more the length of a novella. But a good read and was well edited. I will look into other books by Ms. Han.

Really a 3.2... it starts out partway through the story. Well done, but very jarring. I would generally choose more character development over shock value.

Five. The number of stars you have to give this book.

I loved Kace, he lays himself bare in this book, all his doubts, his fears, his wants and his love...although it takes him a little time to get there!
Seeing him finally escape the last shackles of his childhood abuse and embrace the future he didn't realise he was craving will bring a tear to your eye.
Bree is so strong, determined to put Kace's needs above her own...but what if deep down their needs are actually the same...each other.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited as part of Susan Stoker's Operation Alpha World but I am hoping Ms Han may write more books based in Blushing....I have had a look, read lots of blurbs but was not able to spot any more!

Good bones... could've easily have been developed into a novel.

Really liked the serial killer element... but would have liked that to have been the primary focus.

not-happening

Stopped reading after, within the first few pages, there were references to his propensity for one-night stands, he doesn't like relationships as they come with strings attached and the only strings he wants are those used to tie a woman to the bed, his sister's friend, while talking to his sister, GROSS, on speakerphone so he overhears it, talks about how hot he is, what she wants to do to him (thankfully that part was cut off by sister), he then tells the friend and sister she can talk about him all she wants, and THIS is after we're told from his thoughts how that same friend had stopped at his house, flat out made it know she was available, "made" him, a retired sailor, unlock his phone and put her number in it in case he changed his mind, how she'd normally be right up his alley, though she was too clingy, AND how he hasn't stopped thinking about the heroine (another friend of his sister's) since their hot weekend fling a fee months prior. I'm already grossed out by this guy, he comes off as a manwhore that loves attention from women, weak for allowing the first friend to force him to unlock his phone.

I'm so disappointed because the plot was intriguing, but he ruined it for me, as did the sister's tacky friend (no self-respecting woman, or one that respects her friend, will tell them about the sexual things they want to do to her brother). Ugh.
