In Madeline's hometown of Chicago in June 1891, life is brimming with new industry. The amateur sleuth has recently arrived home from a trip abroad and brought with her two favorite friends. They plan to enjoy a summer of doing nothing but taking in the sights of the city until the ladies volunteer for a Chicago first, an ambulance service that begins. When they urge Madeline to attend one of their sessions to meet with someone who says all manner of mystery things are happening in the park. He wonders if it's attributed to the Valley Gang. When she agrees and meets with the young man who operates the horse-driven ambulance, the mystery begins and the park can never be the same again.

I can't wait for the next Madeline Donovan mystery! The mysteries keep getting better and better! This one had me completely stumped. Reading these mysteries takes one back to Chicago in the 1890's. It is a time of the unusual Madeline, a female detective who is accompanied by her two friends Hugh & Jonathan. Once again, Madeline accepts a job investigating & it's murder. Follow the clues to the end & no matter how you think you have figured this out, the ending will surprise you, but there are many more surprises in store. I anxiously await the next book & believe that you will too.
I have been waiting with anticipation for this next installment of the Madeline Donovan series. It was worth the wait and I was not disappointed. It kept me wanting more & when I thought I knew who the killer was I was surprised at the next twist that kept me guessing still. I now can't wait for the 9th book & hope it comes soon!
I've loved all the books I've read featuring Madeline as a sleuth in the late 1800's. This book is another good plot, interesting characters, and some tricky twists that surprised me. Always curious to read how Hugh really wants her as a mate, and she can't decide between him and Jonathan. I'm pulling for Hugh . . .
