Nothing interests Sarah Purcell more than the volcanoes she studies until she meets Dr. Cullen Gray. Maybe that’s why she marries him two days later. Illogical, yes, but nothing has ever felt so right. As the honeymoon period ends and real life sets in, everything falls apart. A year after their separation, when Sarah is injured, she’s shocked when Cullen shows up to help.

Even though Cullen’s still hurting from their breakup, Sarah has no one else. He brings her to his home in Hood Hamlet to heal. Once she recovers, she can return to her beloved work and he can move on with his life—without her. But soon, sparks fly anew, long-buried emotions resurface, and much needed conversations happen.

Is Sarah and Cullen’s marriage truly over? Or will they get a second chance at romance and a happily ever after?

Really didn't like the hero

This book was good but the hero and his thoughts almost ruined the book for me. As the book started his thoughts made me think he hated the heroine and I couldn't figure out why. The heroine had very low self esteem and the hero was pulling away from her so she says to him, do you want a divorce? Immediately he packs and takes off to the Hamlet and got a job, signed a year lease and filed for divorce. He couldn't wait til he could start over. He was celibate but he missed sex and stuff and was thinking the long wait is almost over. He gets a call saying the heroine has been injured and he goes to her. His thoughts were still disturbing while he waited for her to wake up. I was so confused at this point. His actions weren't matching his thoughts. It was frustrating. They end up going back to his town so he can help her recuperate and you see their love for each other. There was so much pushing and pulling it drove me nuts. I really liked all the characters and I might go back and read some more of the earlier stories. I liked how they started to communicate and talk things over. There is some angst and I did tear up in a couple of places. I really did like this book but I just didn't really like the H until the end. His epiphany was a little late for me.

This book is part of the Hood Hamlet series. I love this series! And this book did not disappoint. It was excellent and I'd highly recommend it. :-) There was excitement, danger, friendship, love and community. What isn’t there to love?

This book is about Dr. Cullen Grey. He moved to Hood Hamlet around a year ago and pretty much kept to himself. The reason for his aloofness spills out in the opening pages of this book in a very exciting, page-turning way. ;-)

Usually I like a good second chance story, but this one was just okay.

The couple are nice decent people. No big misunderstanding that led to their break up, no OW / OM angst... it didn’t seem to me they had a good enough reason to split up in the first place. The author tried to convey that there was a lack of communication and both parties had been holding back, but it just didn’t seem threshed out enough.

The couple had been separated for a year when the wife gets into an accident and the husband takes care of her. This seemed the perfect opportunity for them to get to know more about each other (they had a whirlwind courtship and wedding) and to talk about everything that could have gone wrong. Which they did to a certain extent, but not enough.

I could feel myself straining at the bit, waiting for all the revelations that didn’t materialize... in the end it was just so... unsatisfying.

What a heartfelt and emotional story. McClone takes her readers deep into her characters’ lives to tell an unforgettable tale of love, loss, and miscommunication. This is an emotional tale that definitely tugged at my heart many times.

I enjoyed the cast of characters in this one, right from the main players to the lowliest of supporting ones. Everyone was so real & genuine. The main characters’ less than perfect outlooks on life added to the emotional impact of the tales. Their pasts, both together and separately, were poignant reminders of just how different things are from the outside, as opposed to when you actually live them.

McClone has worked her magic with this novel. It is definitely one of the best ‘second chance’ romances I’ve ever read.

Good book. Cullen and Sarah had married after knowing each other only two days. It took less than a year for their differences to pull them apart and when Sarah suggested divorce Cullen couldn't run fast enough. When she is injured doing her job as a vulcanologist she is released into his care since she has no one else. I liked both Cullen and Sarah though I wanted to shake them a few times.

Cullen and his twin brother had been pretty wild as teens. When his brother got into drugs, Cullen tried everything he could to help his brother but nothing worked. When Blaine died of an overdose Cullen swore he would never allow himself to be so out of control as that. This carried over into everything in his live. Marrying Sarah so impulsively was out of character and it worried him to the point where he started to pull away from her. When she asked for the divorce he took it as a sign and left. When he moved from Seattle to Hood Hamlet he felt more in control with Sarah out of his life. Bringing her there to recover created unwanted cracks in his walls. Over the days she was there he began to realize that he felt better when she was there than he had when she was not. When they actually talked about their lives and their pasts he started to see that he hadn't exactly been fair to her. I liked the way that he introduced her to his friends and started including her in things they could do together. I loved when he got hit with the realization that they belonged together and how he was determined to act on it.

Sarah was stunned to find Cullen by her hospital bed. She couldn't believe he was there and that he stayed the entire week she was there, helping her with her recovery. Every day she was sure he would be packing up to go back home. When she found out she wouldn't be able to go home alone to finish her recovery Cullen offered to have her come home with him. This made her very nervous as she felt she had already come to depend on him too much. She had always been very independent and self reliant because she had never been exposed to a lasting love. Both her parents had remarried several times, and her previous romantic relationship had ended when her fiance left her on their wedding day. As a result, she didn't trust anyone to stick around, and when Cullen left so quickly the year before she wasn't surprised. As the days in Hood Hamlet went on she started making friends and dreaming of the possibility of a future, but afraid to hope.

I loved the way they both realized that they had made mistakes and that if they wanted a future together they were going to have to work at it. I also enjoyed seeing the other people of Hood Hamlet and the rescue teams and am looking forward to the next one.

Having just come off a grueling but successful mountain rescue all DR. Cullen Gray can think of is coffee and a chance to unwind and relax…but no sooner his backpack hits the ground he is being notified by the town sheriff that he is listed as Sarah Purcell’s emergency contact and that she has been in an accident and is in critical condition. Sarah Purcell, Cullen's estranged and almost EX wife!
Will leaned forward. “Sarah’s at a hospital in Seattle.”
Not dead. A hundred pounds of anxiety melted away from each of Cullen’s bone-weary shoulders. Tears of relief pricked his eyes. He hadn’t seen Sarah in months. Cullen had wanted her out of his life, but he hadn’t wanted anything bad to happen to her.
Cullen and Sarah met in Las Vegas and were married within days, for two busy and dedicated professionals their marriage was a classic case of marry in haste and repent at leisure.
Cullen and Sarah might not know how to make their marriage work but they definitely have strong feelings for each other, so when Cullen hears about Sarah’s accident he doesn’t think twice about flying to be at Sarah’s side or opening up his home and providing his support during her recovery period.
Going home with Cullen was a bad idea. So bad she would rather move into the SNF and die of boredom or stay in the hospital and die of starvation or go live in a cave somewhere with nothing but spiders and other creepy-crawly things for company.
Having him here made her feel warm and fuzzy. Taking walks reminded her of how comfortable they’d once been together.
As Sarah spends time recovering in Hood Hamlet with Cullen playing caretaker they both get to see a more relaxed side of each other…. The attraction is strong and so are their feelings for each other. But old hurts run deep will they risk their heart again for a second chance?

I really liked Sarah and Cullen characters, there was resentment but they were never spiteful to each other. Once they got talking about their problems they realized that they were both at fault for the breakdown of their marriage.

Melissa McClone did a fantastic job of conveying the depth of emotional and mental turmoil that raced through each characters mind throughout the story.
What was going on?
Something pounded. It took her a minute—maybe longer—to realize the pounding was coming from her head. Maybe she shouldn’t try opening her eyes again.
Her head wasn’t the only thing hurting. Even her toenails throbbed.
Winning Back His Wife by Melissa McClone is an emotionally charged tale of second chances and starting over. If you are looking for a re-union story minus the angst I would highly recommend this book.

Good composition/layout. Legible fonts and sizes. Second-chance romance synopsis.

POV ~> Third-person
Two years ago, Cullen and Sarah met at a rock-climbing event and impulsively married days later.
A year after, work and personal insecurities began taking a toll; Sarah mentioned divorce and Cullen fled. Both failed to communicate then and, when an accident brought them together again, they continued to struggle with it. For two grown adults, both professionals in highly-demanding careers, one would think that these two would know how to sit down and have a mature conversation, but no… over half of the book described them THINKING things but saying nothing or saying/doing the opposite. It was both frustrating and annoying.
Even as Cullen realized his failures and owned up to them, it did not seem to be enough. No wonder he wasn’t keen on putting himself out there. Luckily, he had the help of Jake, Sean, and Bill to keep him on the right track. Carly, Zoe, and Leanne were wonderfully subtle matchmakers. There was also a hint of Hood Hamlet magic and charm at play.
The plot concept was strong; the content was present. There were conflicts aplenty. Dialogue and interactions were appropriate for the characters. Predictability was low. The conclusion was enjoyable.

I’ve always enjoyed this author’s books. While I generously rated this a three, I was disappointed with this book. Miscommunications and non communication kept this couple apart nearly the entire length of the book. I was beyond frustrated with the H/h. Each has personal issues in addition to blaming each other for their separation. The one thing I was praying for was a grand ending and epilogue. All I got was a happily for now ending.

I totally enjoyed reading His Second Chance, a heartwarming, sweet romance by Melissa McClone, book four in her Mountain Rescue series. Sarah Purcell was focused only on the volcanoes she studied until she met Dr. Cullen Gray during a mountain climb. There was an attraction to him, like she had never had before. Cullen couldn’t believe how beautiful Sarah was, encouraging him to spend all of his time with her. This attraction must have been the spark, or craziness, that had these two run off to Vegas to be married by an Elvis impersonator. As real life sets in once they return to Seattle, everything started falling apart. Maybe it was because they truly did not know one another or maybe it was a genuine lack of communication. Either way, they decide on a separation and possibly a divorce. Fast forever a year and Cullen learns that Sarah has been injured and he is her emergency contact. Cullen leaves his home and job, traveling to Seattle to take care of her; much to her surprise. Cullen brings Sarah to his home in Hood Hamlet, Oregon to heal. Cullen’s friends step up to help so he can return to work. The plan is that once Sarah recovers she can return to her work and he can move on with his life; without each other. As these two spend time together they realize that their attraction and sparks didn’t get the message and still exists. Sarah and Cullen finally have that much needed conversation as long-buried emotions resurface. Maybe, just maybe the year round magic of Hood Hamlet will give these two a second chance at romance and a happily ever after.

Ms. McClone wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving second chance story that is not to be missed. This story is filled with fun dialogue, endearing and likeable characters and the magic of love. I highly recommend His Second Chance to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.

Sarah and Cullen married too quickly and never communicated well with each other. They were both hurt by their past, Sarah by indifferent parents, their significant others, and a verbally abusive fiancé and Cullen by his twin brother killing himself with drugs. They both have trouble opening up. Sarah sees that Cullen doesn’t want to spend a lot of time with her and she thinks it’s best to leave now before he leaves her and asks for divorce. It isn’t until a year later when she is injured and he is her emergency contact that they spend time together talking about what went wrong and wondering if they were too hasty to throw it all away. I loved catching up with the rest of the OMSAR team and their significant others. There were plenty of laughs in this second chance romance. I can’t wait to read playboy Bill Paulson’s story next.

I truly enjoyed reading this book!
It is a heartwarming & emotional story.
Cullen, is a doctor. He is also on the
OMSAR rescue team. Sean let Cullen know he received a call about a women Sarah, who was badly injured, in a fall.
Cullen rushed to Seattle. When Sarah,
finally awoke, she was shocked to see
her soon to be ex-husband, by her bedside. With all of Sarah's injuries,
Cullen offered to care for her
in Hood Hamlet. They both had mixed feelings about Cullen's offer, but Sarah
knew she couldn't care for herself.
Will this be the time Cullen & Sarah
need, to figure out what went wrong
in their marriage, & maybe have a
second chance?
Grabbed me by the heartstrings,
& never let go!!

This was the final book in the Mountain Rescue series, although I did not read them in order. Dr. Cullen Gray, a relatively new resident in Hood Hamlet, receives a call that volcanologist Sarah Purcell has been seriously injured, leading him to return to his previous home in Seattle. As the title suggests, this is a second chance at romance story, with surprises revealed throughout. The importance of honest communication in a relationship is crucial. The setting is split between Seattle and Hood Hamlet, so familiar residents and characters from other books appear.

I really enjoyed this series. These books are quick reads with the danger of mountain rescue playing a part in small town community life.

The Mountain Rescue Romance series continues to get better with book four that centers around Dr. Cullen Gray who lives simply in the quaint Alpine-inspired village of Hood Hamlet and is a member of OMSAR (Oregon Mountain Search and Rescue) and his wife Sarah Purcell, a volcanologist, who he hasn't seen in over a year when he is contacted that she has been in an accident and is in critical condition in a Seattle hospital. I enjoyed their tender and emotional story and didn't want the book to end. Ms. McClone never disappoints and I look forward to book five in this must-read series. I received an advance reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and unbiased review.

A whirled wind romance, quickie wedding, short marriage, speedy separation with a divorce pending for a year - wow. Can these two find their way back to each other? Cullen takes care of Sarah when she is hurt while on the job. Sparks fly but both are in denial - UGH. I screamed at my kindle a few times - JUST TALK - wanted them to tell each other how they were really feeling. Loved the Hood Hamlet team - they were great friends to Cullen and became friends of Sarah's. Really good series.

Can Sarah recover from her injuries? But more importantly can she recover her marriage to Cullen before it's too late? Can they both let go of past regrets? Another great story of the Mountain Rescue Series. I really enjoy the stories of Hood Hamlet and Melissa has a way of making you feel as though you are really there. Looking forward to the next in the series.

I was provided an ARC to give an honest review.

His Second Chance by Melissa McClone.
Sarah Purcell and Dr. Cullen Gray met and got married quickly. They separated and was on the verge of a divorce then Sarah was hurt in an accident and Cullen rushed to her side and then brought her back home with him to take care of her until she was feeling better. They fell back in love with each other as Sarah was recovering. It is a very good book. I recommend to anyone looking for a good book to read.

Happy ending

My initial feeling reading this book was melancholy. I get frustrated with the storyline of characters refusing to open up to each other because of past pain or loss and assuming how things will happen. But Cullen and Sarah are good peop!e surrounded by a whole town of supportive, kind characters. It was worth sticking with the book to finally reach their happy ending.

Loved It! Getting to know Cullen and Sarah was exciting although at alternate times I wanted to smack one or both of them upside the head and yell WAKE-UP!! LOL!! This story is engaging, sweet and romantic and my favorite part was when they finally figured it out! I would love a follow-up story to see how everything finally turns out when they become permanent Hood Hamlet residents.

Sarah mentioned divorce and Dr. Cullen left. A year later still not divorced Cullen starts proceedings but is called as an emergency contact when Sarah has been injured. After spending more than a week in the hospital, she's released into Cullen's hand for rehab. Being together 24/7 they talk, share and love again

this emotional rollercoaster made me cry

Cullen and Sarah’s story was heartbreaking and emotionally draining. How many couples have dealt with feelings of worthlessness and felt inadequate in a marriage then have up. They showed the reader there is still hope and anything is possible.

Once again, I was enthralled with a story in the Mountain Rescue Series. The past regrets, insecurities and grief of both Cullen and Sarah were heart rending. Once they were able to admit their true feelings, they were able to come together and let go of the past. They came to realize, “Love is…..The only thing that matters.” The Christmas Magic of Hood Hamlet, even in the spring and summer, once again cleared the path for love to shine thru. A wonderful read!

This author is excellent at involving the reader in her stories, keeping us turning the pages to see what happens next and how it affects her characters. The town and the people of the town are remarkable and wish fulfilling for us readers.
