The 48 Laws of Power was written by Robert Greene and first published in 1998. It is often praised as one of the best books to read if you want to get ahead in life. This got me to thinking, “why isn’t there anything like this for our community?” We have a lot of people talking about what we need to do, what we should do, and what we could do as a community, but nothing con-crete that we could all sit down with, learn from, and relate to on an individual level. The 48 Laws of Black Empowerment was written to bridge the gap between individual action and a united black community. This book is broken down into six areas of importance to the black community. 1. Personal 2. Family 3. Finance 4. Community 5. Philanthropy 6. Activism By working to improve ourselves as an individual in these areas, it will automatically result in a shift in black community consciousness. While The 48 Laws of Power is a great book, it just wasn’t written with us or our community in mind. The 48 Laws of Black Empowerment is about getting ahead in business and life, while also helping your friends, family and community get ahead with us. This is book is by us and for us.
I am a Las Vegas native that has no plans of leaving “Sin City” anytime soon. I spend a great deal of my time researching, studying, writing, and teaching about the Bible. It is a passion of mine that I have had for a very long time and I consider myself blessed to be able to devote my life to doing it. My interest is in finding the truth regardless of religious tradition or “taboos” about a subject.
Good information I enjoyed the book and agree with everything that was said especially when you discussed the political parties and how they are both the same using us for our vote. We deserve better and our action at the ballot box will be a true indications as to what's to come.
This is worth checking out. It may not apply 100% to today but the author does provide a vehicle for feedback. It really got me thinking of a few things.
I love how each "law" is presented with info about its cultural/historical significance. The inclusion of quotes from Black leaders and celebrities really help highlight each point. Although the reader is encouraged to consider how the US political parties started, the author fails to emphasize how necessary it is for Black people to be active in the political changes that we want to see. Like others, we need to master the politics & exploit every grant, program or initiative for our own ends. That's not about being controlled or rescued by a White Savior, it's about becoming successful opportunists & creating the country we want.
Dante Fortson keeps it concise and to the point. He gives historical evidences for his views as well as what implementing these principles can bring to our communities. Although I am not "Black", I'm glad I read this book because the ideas presented here translate over no matter what cultural group one identifies with or belongs to. Looking forward to reading his other books now.
This book concisely provided understanding and application to the 48 Laws of Power. I appreciate the author’s research and solution identification. Even without going into great detail, I do have a workable outline for living an empowered life that will result in change for my family, neighborhood, and people.
Good read. Informative. Gives Good direction and insight to empower self mentally for people of color. Great points and baseline on how to start helping yourself and your community.
I likes that this was and easy quick read that shared a wealth of information on how blacks can truly empower themselves and make a difference in their communities immediately. I would recommend this book to for any Blacks looking for a format to follow and expound upon for the benefit and progression of equality. I rated this book 4 stars because there is always room for improvements. Thanks for the sharing of knowledge.
I appreciate upfront and honest wording. We definitely need our people to be real with themselves and focus on these laws or maybe even just start with a few. Awesome read.
Interesting book. As stated at the beginning, a book you would consider reading to safeguard yourself. There are some key elements to consider and implement with reference to an individuals thought processes and actions. Worth reading/ listening to with an open mind.
A good quick read for those seeking clear and concise guidelines on self empowerment, community development and nation building. Great for readers of any age
This book empowered me. It is a must read for adults and teens. This book gives a vast amount of tips that cover many aspects of success for the black man or woman.
This is a very good read. It gives suggestions of African American moving forward in history. We have to become the village once again. We made accomplishments in time but some how we lost focus and momentum when we lost Martin, Malcolm and Medgar. When need to get the masses back on track and execute they plan.
The book was an interesting read and it makes sense to follow these laws if we are to build generational wealth and help our communities. This books explains why we are behind in so many sectors, because either we give our hard earned money back to the white communities, our creations or ideas are being stolen from us, or we give excuses as to why we will not create businesses to help ourselves or communities. What I did not like about this book was the fact that he used quotes from certain individuals, i.e Kamala Harris (who is not for the black community). There are articles about her history as the "top cop" putting black men in jail for crimes they did not commit and hiding evidence that could've saved their lives. In my opinion, he could have used other individuals besides her. Anyways, that was my only gripe about the book, but other than that it was a good book.
