Doomsday #1

Doomsday Apocalypse

Rate this book
A war was brewing within our borders.
Not a war with weapons, but one with words.
Until now. And so it begins ...

From critically acclaimed author, Bobby Akart, Doomsday, a new post-apocalyptic survival thriller, is a gripping series of America on the edge of societal collapse and destined for war.

In Doomsday: Apocalypse, book one of the Doomsday series, it was New Year's Eve. As the ball dropped in Times Square, Americans were preparing for a new year and a bright future. Instead they found themselves fighting for their lives as the fuse had been lit that sent the country into chaos.

With political rancor at an all-time high, the war of words escalated, and a political war erupted. Americans were caught in the crosshairs of societal unrest and a shadowy group stoking the fires of discontent burning in America. Words were replaced by weapons as neighbor turned on neighbor, and powerful forces stopped at nothing to reshape a nation in turmoil.

America had become embroiled in something more than a clash of ideologies. She now faced a battle in which the blood of patriots and tyrants would be shed.

As Americans struggled to survive, they sought a place of safety where they could ride out the coming storm. However, even if they can overcome the threats confronting them, will they bear witness to an America hell-bent on destroying itself?

This is a story of a nation divided, on the cusp of a second civil war, and what that portends for our future. Remember, all empires collapse eventually, and America will be no exception.

Here’s a first for me. I’m going to let this one speak for itself. Enjoy. Sob.

“They finally stopped as their progress toward the front of the ball-drop stage appeared before them.”

As their progress appeared, WHAT? Huh?

“Tyler laughed and slid her hand onto his butt. ‘Feel that? Still dry after the twenty-story drop on the Nitro ride.’”

Fifth time this grown man and father of two has referenced soiling himself. OMG.

“He looked over to his first officer, who didn’t appear to be physically injured, but only limp as a result of fainting.”

The plane just CRASHED INTO THE WATER. You are STRAPPED into the pilot seat. The copilot is only limp as a result of fainting? Oh Good GOD

“‘Jim, catch me! I can’t—arrrggghhh!’ Her body suddenly twisted on the pipe and she sailed downward.”

She was on her way to her death, 45 floors below, and she decides to TALK LIKE A PIRATE? There are no words. No. Words.

“With the last final thrust, his boot and leg pushed through the glass”.

Last final? LAST FINAL? ::shaking my damn head::

“‘Will wiped some more blood off his son’s face and then folded it over.’”

Wait. Wait. He folded his son’s FACE? Wouldn’t that, you know, hurt?

“The collapse caused a chain reaction that looked like it was straight out of a Three Stooges movie, except it wasn’t funny.”

This is just bad on so many levels.

“Without going into unnecessary details right now, but a lot has happened on the East Coast this evening, and it’s all hands on deck for first responders and our Coast Guard.”

No. No. Seriously. Just. Just read that one again.

“He told the story of Paul Revere to his sister and the importance of the Liberty Tree.”

I....yeah..... ::sigh:: Jesus be an editor.

“Finally, he applied Polysporin ointment rather than the more commonly used Neosporin. They both had the same active ingredients except Neosporin also contained neomycin, which had been associated with allergic reactions and contact dermatitis.”

Voted most random piece of information EVER. Why? Just. WHY?

So there you have it. This is just a brief glimpse into the world of author Bobby Akart: where grammar, spelling and punctuation rules cease to exist; where the first 45% (FORTY FIVE PERCENT) of a novel is unnecessary background information; and where conclusions of any kind fear to tread.

I give up. It’s a one. A ONE. ⭐️

As the ball drops in Times Square on New Year’s Eve as millions of people have gathered and countless others around the world watch the old year rung out and a new one in, there is a force planning the unthinkable but who they are and why they are doing it remains a mystery. I have to say that this story is written so realistically, that I will be watching the television with much trepidation in hopes that this isn’t tomorrow’s headline! The beginning of a new series is always exciting because we learn the background of what is being planned and who some of the main players are. Of course, there is so much more being played behind the scenes and all will be revealed in good time. Doomsday: Apocalypse is a gripping read that had me turning the pages and reading faster and faster as the action began and BOY! did it ever begin!!! My heart was racing, and I was holding my breath as the shtf and people were scrambling in many different locations to try and survive! OH YES! The Master of Doom and Gloom has once again written a tale that has scared me senseless with the very real possibility that it could happen in my lifetime! I don’t know how he comes up with these scenarios, but I do know…as long as Mr. Akart keeps writing them. I will be reading them. Once again…kudos sir, on a fantabulous start to one helluva a good story!

Bobby Akart has done it yet again. His story grabs you by the throat and doesn't let up. The country is totally divided and a secret group decides to cause chaos, mayhem and murder to further their cause and to gain control. This is the first book in what is sure to be another breathtaking series. I'm now diving into the second book.

This is sort of a rather strange book. It starts off with the author writing about the divisions in our country and that there's a 'war of words' going on. The author also notes that social media is no longer social.

He notes where the 'battlefronts' currently are, including the media, the halls of Congress, class warfare, cultural differences, race/religion/gender differences, all of which have been magnified.

I agree totally with all of that. It may be worse than he thinks, actually.

The President he describes fits Trump.

Then the book goes into various groups and individuals who are preparing some kind of attack in the U.S. Most of them aren't foreigners, either. Attacks take place during a concert, on New Years Day in New York city, on an oil rig and other places. Various individuals are where these attacks take place so you have two groups to keep track of, the attackers and the people at the sites of the attacks.

Then there's someplace called Haven which is probably a bug-out place of refuge although that's just a guess on my part. I am also guessing here that the group of people responsible for all this that is going on want to overthrow the government. Again, thats just a guess as this first book in the series leaves a whole lot of stuff up in the air.

I would have liked to have at least a little bit of clarity as to exactly why this is all happening, though.

SKIP IT, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR

Some of his books are great, others such as this one contains so much usless information and character over-development that the story line of the book is lost and the plot falls flat on its face. I wanted to skip through the daunting character development, I don't need multiple chapters over the same thing just re-explained and expanded on. I feel like his books are bouncing between irrelevant to the story non-fiction and short bursts of actual entertainment. After reading the entire book the only real plot was multiple terrorist attacks occurred and Will bugged out. Won't read the next 50 page "books" in the "series", really should be a page minimum for authors on amazon.

I got to about chapter 21 before I gave up

I was hoping, given the forward, that this book would seek to understand both sides of today's political and cultural divide as we stand on a precipice as a nation. Sadly this book didn't deliver. It's completely one sided. Not reading the rest of the series.

A Divided Nation plus a War of Words will lead to Civil War, 21st Century style!

The nation has never been so divided. Political parties had exchanged adversarial ideology for rabid dogma. The Supreme Court ruled that Business was an entity and had rights, chief among them being the right to donate undisclosed amounts of money to the election campaign process. Racial hatreds bloomed in bloody blossoms colored black, yellow, white and brown. Religions taught hatred and intolerance instead of love and peace. People didn't talk over fences, they screamed across battle lines. When words down hurt enough, throw rocks. The War is on!

But where do you draw the battlefield when you're enemy lives next door and can spend a million times what you can? What weapon works best for you? Fear is your weapon. Terror is your ammunition. Take their lives, destroy their property, steal their wealth. Such are the weapons of the Twenty-First Century. Now they will be used in the United States. Civil war, neighbor against neighbor, while the world watches, and waits their turn.

Another thrilling apocalyptic horror series by master storyteller and teacher Bobby Akart, the Doomsday Series reads the pulse of our divided nation. The cast of characters is drawn from our leaders and strategists, our heroes and our neighbors. The timeline is now, not a misty prognostication of a potential outcome, but an honest read of current events and a look at what could happen with the current emotional framework of our society.

How do you prepare for survival in the coming apocalypse? What will we need? What do we do? I'll bet that one or two of the characters in this series will survive and give us a good idea of how we can too. The character introduction was amazing, building on a faint familiarity or an intentional lampooning, we meet the dominant actors. The action was smooth and realistic, well researched and colored with the artistic strokes of a master.

You're going to love this series as much as I will. Guaranteed!

Another Phenomenal Series!

Bobby Akart has done it again! If this first book is any indication of what’s to come, this series will certainly be one of the best of the best in the apocalypse genre today.
The character development is superb. It was effortless to become invested in each character, and their families as well.
Akart’s world building is masterfully crafted. As you read along, you are right there in the middle of a perfectly detailed world. Able to see, smell, touch, hear and taste it all. It’s a pleasure to experience.
The storyline —— absolutely creative. So much intrigue and mystery built in. A well-rounded mix of breathless and exciting action scenes, as well as slower, more narrative and informative periods.
Couple things - if you’re seeking the typical often scripted book where the “SHTF” insanity starts immediately, the battles come one after the other, and without a lot of substance to the story, this isn’t that book. Also, it doesn’t hurt to have a love of, or at least an interest in, American history. As this tale is thick with it - in a great way. Lastly, as some other reviewer did mention, I was instantly pulled out of the story when the president spoke (Trump). The character brought to life here is much more eloquent and is made to sound extremely well educated and intelligent. Out of the entirety of the story, that’s the one area that didn’t feel authentic.
Overall, “Doomsday Apocalypse” is an enthralling page turner. I’m completely sold on the mysteries; all of the delicious breadcrumbs which were scattered. I’m honestly excited to continue the journey in book 2!

No roller coasters No NYC No planes.....home please.

A NEW Bobby Akart Series! This one is going to be great!

As a fan of Akart's books, I know the drill....

Book #1 is devoted to the groundwork. I prefer to call it the " teaser . " He introduces the background of the characters. He sets us up for THE INCIDENT. I believe this book is going to take us in a whole different apocalyptic event. One that will and can happen.....we see it happening a little at a time yet we just stand there doing nothing. Don't get out your tin foil hats and crowns yet, but I would suggest buy some boxes of aluminum foil. Let the adventure begin!

No spoilers from me.....But I will paraphrase Abraham Lincoln....."America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
( I stole this from the book!) Enjoy the read. I did!

Great book

Akart is a brilliant author. I couldn't put the book down. It was very well written. What I really loved was the use of today's politics and current events. So many authors create all new names for our President and other political figures. Akart chose to use Trump's name and touched on our current problems. People reading this book in the future, after Trump fades into our history books, will get an understanding of what our country is battling right now. The scenario Akart created could be a very strong possibility. Hopefully, it never happens. If it does, he is going to be labeled as an incredibly insightful man. If it doesn't, then people will say he's a brilliant author who knows his history, current politics and how to write a great story. I can't wait to read his other books.

A New and interesting perspective on an older theme

This first book of the series starts it wind up by introducing future characters into what promises to be one hell of another Bobby AKART action & adventure read. Perhaps starting off a wee bit slow at first the book is soon zipping right along giving insights into characters and where they MAY fit into the story as it moves along. The mix of characters seems a bit eclectic as a group but it promises to gel into a group that is varied but with rounded skill sets for survivors and bad guys alike. I suspect there will be some characters whose real motives will shock and awe the reader.

Bobby Akart is a very talented and skill author who obviously is a prolific writer of quality reads that are well researched, well edited and thrilling with authenticity woven into each sentence and theme.

"A Very Realistic Disastrous Story"

The stories Bobby Akart creates are always intense and captivating. There are always many truths in his novels which cause you to think about the possible reality of tragedy. Here, a war is brewing for our nation. But it doesn't involve another country. It's coming from within our borders. It's a collapse of our society and our questionable government. Awesome and a story I could not put down. A quote I read today from the internet "If our government is shut down, why don't we form another one." This book by Bobby Akart is a must read for everyone. I highly recommend it ... there are so many truths.

Once again, Bobby Akart has the makings of a SMASH hit! As is the norm with a series from him, the first book is usually loaded with the stories and groundwork that will make up the series. I find this approach to work well, as it saves the reader from having to learn about the characters backgrounds as they read on. It also allows the author to set up the rest of the action and keep the reader focused on the story. Bobby's research and ability to rip from the headlines is once again second to none. What really does it for me in his stories is that they are so close to reality it's frightening and not hard to imagine it actually happening. What will you do when SHTF ??

Gulp! Breathe! Ok, scream! THIS BOOK IS DECIDEDLY FULL OF MORE PUZZLES AND TWISTS AND UPS and DOWNS then any roller coaster(hehehe) that I ever rode. Bobby has again surprised us with an extremely well written, masterful, intriguing tale of a nation fraying apart. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel because as Bobby quoted ‘“For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”. The chaos has started, how will it end? Well done, Bobby Akart.

Decent but not really impressed.

Did not just leave me hanging, it left me dangling. This book was simply a lead in to sell other books in the series. I have read better books by lesser known authors. On the plus side, you really get to know the characters. On the negative side, you get to know the characters and that is about it. Too much character development and very little else about what is really going on. I highly doubtful I will be purchasing the next volume.

What a start!

Love the way this story is being told! In the first book, it's all about several people and their families and what takes place with each of them as the terrorism unfolds. A few twists and a mega doomsday later, everything is starting to come together for book 2. Or is it?!

Definitely an exciting, can't put it down read right from the first ! It might just become my Akart favorite, and that's saying a lot 👍🏻✔️🙂

The wait was worth it!

You hit another one out of the park, Bobby. I loved the various scenarios pulling together through the book, and am still wondering about a few, you did a great job of writing them so I’m not certain where their loyalties lie yet. It went by too fast and I’ve already bought the next book releasing at the end of the month.

This series is interesting and very close to the chaos of the day

I love Bobby's books. I have read most of his series and always watch for more. I'm not very patient and love to read them one after the other, so waiting for the Haven is going to be difficult.

Thanks for your work on this genre as it keeps me aware of so many things going on in the world.

Doomsday

I will always have a five star review for Mr. Akart's books of he keeps writing like this . His books keep getting better with each new series. Every time I read new series I think that it is my favorite, now this one is and the second book can't come out fast enough. I think I need a place like the Haven.

Awesome beginning of a new series!

Bobby Akart continues to get better and better with each series he writes. He keeps you wanting more and the reader is profoundly disappointed at the end of the book when they realize that there isn't any more to read. You want the second book in the series immediately, but you have to wait, otherwise known as Akart withdrawal.

Life and the times.

This is 5 star as most of Bobby Akart are. He brings us into the story with the first book and keeps us entertained from book 2 to the last. This is a view of what could or will be and of what has been the history of our country.
Now have to wait till the next book. Like it better when I get to read without waiting.

Thank you for the new series Bobby.

Read what our Country has become in the last few years. Only not quite as uncivil or alarming. A Kazum growing ever wider in this Country. It started many years before Trump but, the Left like in a Vampire seeing a cross, is going berzerk. A violent blood bath is in our future unless cooler heads prevail. Very interested in reading the next book. Hope to see solutions.

While I am not as attached to these characters as I am to others in Bobby Akart's books, the suspense, thorough research, and the all-to-possible made this another novel I couldn't stop reading. I do not read "doomsday" books for the fear, but rather, the courage under fire of the characters who have to adapt to the unthinkable in a matter of minutes. I only hope that I would be as courageous.

What a page turner. It is scary because it can be taken from todays headlines. I read it on New Years Eve and it could so easily come true. The book covered several characters and their response to the terror. I held my breath a few times and mumbled under my breath about some of the incidents.

Very slow start but then gets good

This book starts slow with the first part of the book being an educational set up I found extremely long winded. Once the characters started to appear, the book got interesting and the story began Yes, it's worth reading.

Another dystopian thriller from Bobby Akart. As always he'll have you on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what happens to his characters. This one begins with New Year's Eve and the forces of someone... is it terrorists - foreign or homegrown, decide to take matters into their own hands.
