"Fated. Few paranormals experienced the influence of having a fated mate. Saw as a curse and a blessing, those affected could search their entire lives without finding the one fated, or like Rutger and Jordyn, they found each other and denied their feelings."
Reading Bones Chines by M.A. Kastle...was a trip. An atmospheric trip that I enjoyed and fmade my heart swoon. Reading this novel transported me into Trinity and her descriptive syntax made it all the more immersive, especially in regard to the paranormal lore, the romance between Jordyn and Rutger, and all the action bits. The worldbuilding in the Cascade saga is a balanced blend between the mudane and paranormal, making it interest to think about. I would say that the Cascade saga gives me a small-town vibes that mixes effortlessly with the paranormal. I'm not sure how to desribe it, but when reading Bone Chimes, it felt like I was stuck between worlds? One half is the werewolf life that Jo is desperately trying to escape and the other half deals with the tensions between morals and paranormals as well as having a crime thriller.
However, the clash between the two "worlds" in Bone Chimes feels seamleesly blended together because of Kastle's beautiful writing.
Secondly, I was so invested with Jo, the werewolf that wanted to run away from the pain Rutger caused her as well as her powers. Her character was strong and charming, which made me cheer for her every step of the way. However, Jo is not without her flaws and Bone Chimes makes that clear as the author delves into her "running away" from the pack and the amount of burdens she takes on herself. Rutger plays the small-town werewolf cop, whose denial for his feelings towards Jo compeletely breaks when she comes back to town. Its evident that there is chemistry between Jo and Rutger and I love how the author shows their affection towards each other. The amount of cast and roles in this book was astounding and I did find myself lost when trying to remember a character's role in the story. For example, Lady Sloane? Towards the end of the novel, I was wracking my brain on where I heard her name before.
I was wondering LA book festival when I stumbled onto this booth. And met the author who graciously signed my copy . The book it’s self is a wonderful urban fantasy with a great mystery with werewolves feel. Characters are believable and relatable. The plot keeps you reading more and the imagery is vivid and you can feel you are there . Loved it ! Can’t wait for next book fest to get the next one signed !
