Lucas doesn't like emotional entanglements. If he's horny, he calls an escort; it's easier that way. He rarely sleeps with the same man twice, and never thrice, no matter how good the sex. But that all changes the moment Matt shows up on Lucas's doorstep.

Matt isn't an escort just for the money; he likes the freedom and enjoys sex. He also works at his family's restaurant and as an underwear model. Matt is a man of many talents.

When I first read the blurb, I was worried about the escorting theme. I don't like stories where the MCs hook up with other people, for pay or otherwise. I have to admit I was a little uncomfortable at first. Matt doesn't immediately stop seeing his other clients. That wouldn't have been realistic.

But once the MCs form an emotional connection, they have a serious heart to heart. Both men are stubborn and need to learn the fine art of compromise.

Silk isn't a kinky story, but it's a very, very sexy one. Matt and Lucas burn up those blue silky sheets! If you like plenty of hot lovin', you'll go gaga for this book.

I was so engaged with the characters and so interested in watching Lucas and Matt's relationship play out, I blinked and realized I was at 80 percent.

There's not a ton of angst here. The age gap (Lucas is almost 20 years Matt's senior) is relatively inconsequential. Matt is mature, and Lucas can certainly keep up with Matt's relentless sex drive. I really loved watching these two interact. Lucas really came alive with Matt at his side.

Three cheers for Matt's sister Angela and Lucas's hilarious Grandma Diane! I loved the chapters set at Diane's house, which were only outdone by the sweet epilogue.

Highly recommended for a lower angst, steamy read!

What a pleasant surprise. It’s sexy and sweet. As entertaining as “Pretty Woman” was.

Matt is pretty laid-back, enjoying life and sex, which is why he does some escorting on the side. His only flaw : he doesn’t like being told what to do, even if he agrees with what is being told him.
Lucas is very successful and seems to be happy with a life full of rules and control if it were not for this social anxiety.

One call and the expression “burning the sheets” takes all its meaning. A second call and yes, it starts to go way beyond a simple business. And both men have to reevaluate their life while giving in to the powerful chemistry between them.

The development of their relationship feels natural, with no unnecessary angst. As said before, it’s sweet and sexy. Scratched that, it’s totally hot !! And with of course a good HEA, even though a tad too sugary and fast for my taste.

This book is fab. I loved Lace, Satin was incredibly erotic, but Silk is just a beautiful love story between two men who - on the face of it - shouldn't have a connection at all.

The cover is a stunning example of what the reader will find inside, a gorgeous May to December romance with a hint of Pretty Woman but without all the annoying ex's and rich bitch shop assistants.

Matt and Lucas are perfectly matched, they're similar enough that the sparks fly when both want to be top dog but there's enough difference for the older man to be fascinated by the guy he hires as a one night escort.

There's a great cast of secondary characters and some lovely humorous touches along the way, as well as a whole bunch of stubborn pride and a bit of flouncing.

But all comes right in the end and the epilogue is ridiculously sweet and full of hope and happiness and, after all, isn't that what everyone wants in their romances? :)

PS: Did I say how much I loved the cover?! It's so beautiful.

K.C. Wells’ A Material World series continues with Silk. Beautifully performed by John Solo, Silk is one smoking hot, deliciously erotic treat! Filled with rich, fully developed characters who all have interesting stories to tell, both men have families which feature prominently in the storyline. Humor, family drama, and a nice dose of hurt/comfort, this May/December romance is capped off with a very satisfying happily ever after for the main characters.

Yes Matt’s an escort, and Lucas is his wealthy (and gorgeous) client, but if you’re thinking Pretty Woman stop right there, because that’s as close as it gets. K.C. Wells flips the script and has the young guy asking the older gent to be his plus one. A genuine friendship forms as the men get to know each other, and the relationship evolves seamlessly.

K.C. Wells writes spectacular erotica, and she’s at the top of her game here. Uninhibited and self confident, Lucas has no qualms asking for what he wants from his escorts. And Matt delights in satisfying his clients’ every desire. The scenes between these two are simply scorching.

John Solo and K.C. Wells are a match made in heaven, and I love hearing him narrate her novels. It’s clear how much fun he has with the humor Ms. Wells builds into the story. His “grandma voice” is fantastic, and had me in stitches. A truly perfect audiobook.

What a different take on the client/rentboy and age gap tropes, offering the positive side of becoming a sex worker, in this case, an escort. Matt chooses to work in the profession for simple reasons; he enjoys sex and he appreciates the money. There's no dramatic backstory, or desperation, as so many think is the only reason someone does it. Matt thinks of it as a job, one that he enjoys and like real-life people in the biz, also models underwear. Lucas prefers the control of only having sex with escorts and he's familiar to Matt's circle as "Mr. Silk Sheets" who rarely calls anyone for an encore. Of course, Matt becomes the exception to his rule. It takes some time, but Lucas becomes the exception to Matt's rules too. There's no "cheating" but the two becoming a couple doesn't happen quickly.

K.C. does a good job building her character's personalities, with distinct voices and mostly seeming to match their ages. There isn't a huge amount of conflict, only disagreement and reconciliation and an age difference is not much of an issue at all. Neither was Lucas being biracial, although there were a couple of brief mentions of it. The only thing that didn't feel right to me was Lucas appearing to be almost a recluse at the start of the story, and referring to himself as having "social anxiety", since he seemed to move past it rather easily. Perhaps it was for lack of a better term, but the way it was presented was kind of confusing to me. It was never clear, either, how behavior he was taught at home was so unusual or extreme as to invite ridicule. How could he built this huge business and became so wealthy, if he had such a problem? I wasn't thrown completely out of the story though and I got past it, since I enjoyed the book overall.

The story is written in a fairly low-key fashion. The story flows along, interspersed with K.C.'s signature sex scenes that were both hot and romantic, with only one major conflict between Lucas and Matt but no major crisis. I liked the family members for both characters, the lack of gratuitous homophobia and Grandma was cute. It's a romance story through and through, and Matt and Lucas's reactions were appropriate to their ages and temperament. As usual, there's a lovely epilogue and a gratifying HEA. It should be a favorite for romance readers wanting a simple, straightforward plot, some smexy times and a solid relationship for the MC's.

*** Another awesome story in the Material World series by K. C. Wells !
Big money, big business, Lucas, 45, an inked silver fox likes control.

That is why he hires escorts, where he knows what he'll get.
That is until Matt, 27, underwear model and escort walks into his apartment.

Matt challenges him in bed and out.
Each man has personal rules, and each one breaks those rules. Their attraction is too strong to ignore. As they become a couple, date, and meet family, they have obstacles to overcome.
I loved these guys. Each one is special in a different way, but oh so compatible.

We see the deep emotions, the extremely hot, raw, dirty talking sexiness and there is lots of it.

Well written, interesting, and so fun. Very romantic and sweet also ! No cheating and a HEA ! Great epilogue !
I look forward to the next book, "Denim" !
I highly recommend it ! ENJOY !

3.5 stars I rounded up because I really did like it. But. I feel conflicted.

I loved the story itself - the two guys, the way they interacted, the love that grew and the sexy hotness of the lurve-making. Props. But there were times it dragged and not in a good way. It felt slice of life - and, though pleasant, having very little conflict or angst meant you had to be in the mood to read it.

I really could not get a good sense for who Matt was - I couldn't picture him, his family, or their history well even though they had the restaurant. NYC didn't come alive here either like it does in some books. I know some folks like that the fact that Matt being biracial was barely mentioned but as someone who has kids with mixed heritage - the reality is that there is a reality and to not have anything anchor that made me feel very disconnected. It's like by such de-emphasis he faded to some generic Joe person. Like there was a fear of a personality that might come across as stereotyping. We don't know much about his history at all and none of his family is really explained except by name so I could not picture them either. I spent a lot of the book when his parents or sister were around trying to figure out what they looked like, what their history was, and their story.

There is not even any NYC accent implied which also felt weird. The whole thing felt strange. Maybe I'm a product of my kids growing up (they are half Arab which, while not at all the same as growing up black, is still distinct and has affects and they are who they are because of thing that have happened to them since 9/11).

There is also very little about the large age gap - Matt's parents...side comment from one of Lucas's family members - not much else.

The whole thing, to me, felt like opportunity missed to add more depth and connection to characters by having their backgrounds actually influence them or add unique elements in the story on page.

Lucas too had a background that is hinted at but never really explained well. I guess that's it - though the grandma's parts were fine I just still had not a lot of sense of who these two were. Lucas is not that old for his success and it's hard to see just how he got to be so rich with his struggles. They were at odds w/his portfolio of companies. It felt weird and how he lived was billionaire not millionaire - so that too felt off. He's got one guy who handles it all? And he's a millionaire/billionaire? Not likely. Matt's escorting still was not well understood for me - there are health risks involved - but these are never referenced. So he's making money (he doesn't appear to need) but he's also taking risks. Yet no mention at all of any of that. There is a reference to the two MC's going bare after testing and I literally screeched at my kindle - "WTH? Are you not regularly tested..you are an ESCORT dude!" because Matt makes no comment about being tested regularly. In NYC. Doesn't ring true. Not that I'm an escort in NYC but I'm a practical girl and these questions weigh on my mind.

Still - I enjoyed the story, apart from any realism at all being felt with the two MC's.

This was one of those books that did everything right overall, but still didn't quite satisfy.

I'm usually pretty wary of May/December romances because too many authors have the annoying tendency to really dumb down the younger heroine/hero or worse, make them insultingly naive.

Thankfully that didn't happen here. I liked Matt in general. He might have been twenty-seven, but he definitely had his act together. He made thoughtful, if questionable decisions, but he was savvy. Moreover he was willing to be responsible for them.

However, Matt was also unfinished. I knew he was biracial, but exactly what did that mean? It was like the author was a bit scared to go there so decided the safest course was to be as oblique as possible. Granted, the young man on the cover is obviously PoC, but the important details left more questions than answers, especially in terms of his family. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say one parent was Caucasian and the other African American. Don't get it twisted, race can be handled with subtleness and there's absolutely nothing wrong with filling in the blanks. Not to mention, there's really no excuse to play guessing games, with all the resources out there for authors wanting to write diversely without making a cake of it.

Still kudos for the cover. Is it me, or does M/M romance tend to do less whitewashing, despite the fact that the genre is still pretty boringly cis-looking twink filled.

Lucas was intriguing, though I really don't consider 45 as "old". Thankfully he wasn't another billionaire, but he was wealthy and even better, there were actual scenes of him *working*. I especially loved his sassy 90-something grandmother.

What I loved was how Lucas' money didn't faze Matt. He approached the older man as an equal. None of that deer in the headlights Ana Steele bullshit. And despite his being a client, Matt retained his autonomy.

With that said, my final score is 3.5. Queer PoC is an automatic star.

This book was gifted to me by the author in hopes I'd leave a favorable review.

Hells, yeah!!

First off, I love this series, each one focusing on a specific material. We had Lace and Satin, and now I've devoured Silk.

Here, we have Lucas, early 40s, a self-made millionaire, whose stoic and rigid upbringing has left him with a mild case of social anxiety and an unwillingness to form romantic attachments. Or any kind of attachments with other people, really. When he needs sex, he calls upon an escort, never inviting the same man more than twice, at the very most. Usually, the escorts get only one dance upon his silk sheets - the rare man may be hired twice.

It was clear early on that Lucas was lonely and unhappy, but didn't realize it. He thought his life was normal. Cuddles, embraces? Who needs them.

Then Lucas, intrigued by images online, hires Matt, 27, an escort/underwear model/server at his parents' restaurant, which he'll take over at some point. When he's ready. Modeling underwear is for fun, as is escorting - and Matt likes sex. The money is nice, but Matt knows that this isn't something he'll do long-term. Besides, his parents would be mortified and disappointed if they knew about his side jobs. He has a few regulars, but is also perfectly happy to accept new clients.

So Matt breezes into Lucas' life/condo and their first night is super hot. Holy moly, do they burn up those silky sheets. A couple of weeks later, still thinking about Matt, Lucas hires him again. And then again. And then... well, you read this for yourself.

I really liked how the author drew her characters here, giving them a full backstory that made them who they are, but also gave them room to grow and expand their world views. As Lucas and Matt go from client/escort to more, spending time outside of Lucas' condo, they both realize that they could be much more than casual sex. Matt's rule of never falling for a client crumbles. He still has other clients, but there is thankfully no sex with others once he starts hanging out with Lucas outside of the bedroom.

Lucas, though being the older man, doesn't have a whole lot of experience with romantic relationships and it shows. And Matt, as mature as he is, crumbles under the perceived expectations of not only Lucas, but also his parents, and he definitely has some growing up to do. He's stubborn and somewhat unreasonable, but so is Lucas to some degree. They both need to learn the fine art of compromise which is so important in any relationship, and they both need to learn to communicate honestly and openly, which translates to telling each other what's bothering them. What they want. What they need. And what they expect.

Matt's sister Angela, as well as his parents, were also well done, and I absolutely adored Lucas' grandmother Diane. The scenes set at her house were often hilarious, but Grandma Diane also has a huge hand in sorting these two knuckleheads out when they can't seem to do that on their own.

The somewhat large age difference really didn't matter here - they were well-matched from a maturity perspective, and Lucas had no issue keeping up with Matt's libido either. *fans self*

That epilogue - perfection. I loved, loved, loved it.

This was an excellent read, and I enjoyed myself immensely while reading. I might have taken a cold shower after, but this is not unusual for a KC Wells book.

Recommended!!

I also need the next book, Denim, like, RTFN! The short teaser at the end of this book has me salivating already.

I love age-gap romance and throw in a sweet story with some smoking hot sex and I’ll likely be hooked. K.C. Wells has done all this with Lucas and Matt and this story is easily my favorite of the series.

Lucas is an extremely successful businessman. He grew up learning from his father that control and routine leads to success and he has done very well by that. He has a bit of social anxiety, perhaps an extreme introvert, and he doesn’t really like dealing with people face-to-face, but he has managers and supervisors to take care of things after his initial contacts with clients. He also keeps to routine and control with his sex life, hiring an escort a few times a month, but rarely the same one twice. That is until Matt arrives and does the unexpected – allows Lucas to give up his control for one night.

Matt is very happy with his life. He is planning to take over running his family’s restaurant and is currently working there as a server and learning the business. When he’s not working there, he makes money by modeling underwear and working as an escort. These are jobs that allow him to have plenty of sex (which he loves) and make money. He has full control over the jobs he takes and has a few rules to keep things going smoothly. He’s heard about Lucas from other escorts, he knows it’s going to be a one-time deal with the incredibly sexy man, so he decides to make it a one-time Lucas will never forget. When Lucas gets in touch with Matt again, the two start to bond over more than sex. Soon their tentative friendship has become so much more, but they each wonder just how much more they can have.

There is not a lot of drama here. It’s a character focused story of Matt and Lucas unexpectedly finding love while neither was particularly looking for it. While there is plenty of hot sex from the get-go between Matt and Lucas, there was really such a gentle build-up to the romance as both men soon begin breaking their rules just to spend time with each other.

I absolutely adored Matt and his attitude towards life. He has his goals, but he enjoys himself to the fullest on the way to meeting them. That is probably the biggest thing he first brings to Lucas’ life. Lucas, for all his success, has never really allowed himself to just enjoy things. Despite Matt being younger, he has no problem taking charge and getting Lucas to loosen up. Lucas is no slouch himself and it only gets better when he actively starts romancing Matt.

Just because there’s not a lot of drama, doesn’t mean the men don’t have some things they need to work out before they live happily ever after. Both have a bit of a stubborn streak, after all they’ve been doing things their own way without having to consider a partner until now. Luckily both men have pretty supportive families that can help them out, especially Lucas’ grandmother Diane. She may not make her appearance until late in the story, but she definitely makes her mark!

This was a wonderful story all the way through to the beautiful Epilogue. It’s not your typical age-gap or escort plot, and that’s a good thing. So if you can drag your eyes away from that gorgeous cover, I think you’ll be just as happy with the story you find under those blue silk sheets.

I was way more entertained with Silk.

So I pictured Richard Gere in my head a time or two. It wasn’t a hardship.

All in all, a very fun experience.

I’m looking forward to Denim, the next in the series.

Totally loved it! 😍
Lucas, a successful, but introverted business man and Matt, an equally strong-minded outgoing guy who works as an escort on the side.
Their journey was so beautiful and endearing, the story overall low on angst and high on heat.
Thanks Trio for bringing this book to my attention in the Amazing Race. :)
And the narration by John Solo was perfect!

I liked the first two books in this series, but I really loved Silk. I don’t know if it was the May-December trope (the substantial age gap between Matt and Lucas), or the escort thing, but it totally worked for me.

Matt and Lucas meet through Matt’s work as an escort, and their relationship slowly grows from escort-client to more. I loved that it was not an instant-thing, but rather a delicious slow burn where the friendship and love came after the scorching hot sex. And yes, the sex is hot, and surprising at times, and I loved it.

The age thing isn’t all that big of a deal, and I liked that. Matt is mature for his age, and Lucas doesn’t feel too old for him. It comes up a few times, but it’s not the major obstacle that keeps them apart. I loved how they both grew as characters, and slowly changed to form the perfect match.

Neither is Matt’s job. Because their relationship develops over time, we see Matt interact with other customers as well, but once he and Lucas have their emotional connection, he stops. That’s a smart choice from the author, as it satisfies our needs as readers for no cheating. But I liked that Lucas also didn’t make a big deal out of Mat’s job. That would’ve been hypocritical, since he booked him as a client, but I’ve seen it happen. There’s no moral hypocrisy here, and that’s great.

Despite Matt’s job, it’s a low angst book with a surprising humorous touch—something else I really appreciated. Matt’s sister and Lucas’ grandmother function as great supporting characters without being over the top (that would be Lucas’ aunt, the only aspect of the book I didn’t like. It felt like the token homophobic family-character.)

And while the cover is really not what I rate a book on, this one gets major point for being absolutely damn perfect. It fit not just the characters, but the whole story, and I love it.

I really enjoyed this one. Yes, Matt is an escort, but it isn't really thrown in our face. The only one was when he meets an out of time client who is still a virgin. It was a tender sweet scene & he & Lucas hasn't really started something together. We get to see Lucas start to pull out of his shell. They do discuss some of Matt's clients & there is no jealousy & talking with Lucas was easy & not the least bit awkward. Lucas never feels that Matt only likes him for his money. This was a relatively low angst, sweet romance. We get to see them become friends before they have a conversation & even though it wasn't 100% easy compromise. Matt trys helping Lucas break out of his social anxiety by inviting him to his brother's wedding & it turns out great. Then Matt goes to Lucas' grandmother's birthday party, she was a hoot!! I loved all the secondary characters, though I'm not sure what I made of Lucas' parents.

My favorite of the series so far, in this story—which can easily be read as a standalone, by the way—a young male escort and his older client discover much more than a surface attraction when they first down and dirty between the blue silk sheets.

Matt Dorning is twenty-seven and works as a waiter at his parents’ restaurant. He’s also an underwear model and an escort. Does he have to do the escort work? Well, the extra income goes a long way toward his independence in living on his own in New York City, plus he loves sex so it’s win-win in his book. The personable biracial man has plenty of friends, a hot body, and a keen intellect. He’s on track to take over his father’s restaurant business—something he’s looking forward to in the future when his dad is ready to step down. But for now, he’s livin’ life and enjoying every moment, and every repeat client, and every new opportunity.

Lucas Sawyer is forty-six, a highly successful entrepreneur, and unknown to most people, suffers from social anxiety. It’s much easier for him to hire an escort than it would be to cruise a bar for a date, and he always keeps it simple by never hiring his escort for more than one night. No strings. No regrets. His Park Avenue apartment is secure, convenient, and comfortable and the boys he hires seem so to enjoy their time with him between his silk sheets in his oversized king bed. And then he meets Matt and all bets are off. Matt loves his job and he’s not afraid to ask for what he wants and to be a bit bossy in the bedroom—all things that Lucas hasn’t really experienced before. Lucas is usually the dominant in the bedroom, telling the escorts what to do and when to do it, but Matt just goes for what he wants and that includes telling Lucas what to do and when to do it. Matt has heard of Lucas from fellow escorts and knows he’s only going to have one night so he figures why not do what he wants? As it turns out, this approach really piques Lucas’s interest and he thinks of Matt long after he’s gone.

As they see each other again, their dynamic begins to change and they share more than sex. Matt suddenly decides to help Lucas with his anxiety by inviting him to Matt’s brother’s wedding—something Lucas normally wouldn’t enjoy but does—and the bonus is the night they get to spend sleeping together before a nice round of wakeup sex the next day. Over time, both men acknowledge that they aren’t really escort and client any longer, but Matt faces some huge personal challenges, and without any commitment from Lucas, he’s not sure what to do. How will Lucas feel when Matt continues to have sex with his other clients? Is there room for each man in each other’s lives?

This was a terrific story, very different from others I’ve read that featured escorts, and I enjoyed both the writing style and the cast of characters—all well-developed and interesting characters. My favorite was Diane, Lucas’s grandmother. I can’t tell you how happy I was to see that she was not portrayed as a faded lily—a little old lady who was on her last leg. I bowl every week with women in their nineties and I aspire to be like them when I grow up. Diane can go on that list—I loved her!

An excellent story

This is almost like a Cinderella story, and indeed the story itself references Pretty Woman. Lucas hires escorts, usually for one night only, but Matt is different. Matt isn't a starving young man, he is being groomed to run a restaurant, but escorting pays extra bills allowing him a few comforts. But Matt has never let his heart become involved, until he meets Lucas, and things will never be the same again. A really sweet story about two lovely men, who find love where they weren't expecting it, in the silk sheets of a bed.

What can I say about this book? It comes down to one thing: I loved it. It is K.C. Wells’ superb writing style gets to me every time. I am grabbed from the beginning and it follows through the entire story.
The relationship between Matt and Lucas is a slow-burn love story and flows naturally from escort and client via friends into boyfriends. The lines are getting blurred with the strong connection they have. Sizzling chemistry with an underlying tenderness. Witty humor with serious moments.
I fell in love with Matt and Lucas as easily as they fell in love with each other. They wormed their way into my heart. Although there is not much angst it is not smooth sailing for these men. What is in life? They have to deal with real problems that come with being both stubborn men who want to control their lives but have to learn to compromise.
Not only her main characters are well developed the supporting cast, like Grandma Diane and sister Angela, are memorable as well.
All these elements make the books by K.C. Wells a delight to read and uniquely hers.
It is smooth as silk. Every word and sentence are woven richly into a sensual story of two men falling in love as only K.C. Wells can do.

Awwwww💕

***3.5 stars***

I really enjoyed reading this sweet, sexy story, and for the most part it was a quick read. Unfortunately, while it was good it wasn't great. Really low angst, and what little there was IMO was meh.

I have a thing for K.C Wells. This is another good one. Lucas doesn't do relationships and Matt doesn't break his rules. Things changes the night Lucas hires Matt for the night. Enough Said.
I enjoyed it very much and if you like K.C's writing you will too.

An Okay Re-hash Premise!

An escort Matt and a rich, driven business executive Lucas romantic tale. I liked Matt and his family; I thought Lucas came across as a light weight. The premise has been done to death.

Silk is the third book in K.C. Wells Material series and this story sees Lucas hire Matt for one night together but it somehow turns into another, and another. A white hot attraction slowly becomes something more as the two men spend time together outside of the bedroom.
I enjoyed both characters and how they are first established before meeting each other. Matt is happy with his life and escorting that helps to pay so he can continue living in New York where his family and their restaurant are. Lucas has built a successful business empire and, while he's very comfortable with his lifestyle, he finds himself quite lonely. Matt is the latest in a line of escorts that Lucas has used but there's not been someone quite like him before. You can feel a connection building between them and it's the sweet moments that they spend together that I enjoyed the most. It's when their relationship builds and they both show their vulnerable sides, especially loved that from Lucas with him being older, successful and wealthy. Their age gap generally doesn't have much impact until family members make a comment and it doesn't really show when their alone, Matt comes across as quite mature for his age especially with his plans regarding his family's business. Both men's families are involved at points and they are most entertaining, Lucas's Grandmother being my favourite.
I love the story and characters, it's definitely worth consuming this book and the series overall. I look forward to seeing where this goes next.
John Solo does another wonderful job narrating. The characters are brought to life and I found it easy to fall into listening to the story.
