‘Mount Mercy’ was something I picked up because the blurb—the promise of romantic suspense in some isolated mountain town—sounded like my sort of thing. Unfortunately, the suspense alone was the only factor that had me powering through when I was tempted to call time on the characters early on.

Corrigan and Amy didn’t stray far from stereotypical protagonists in romantic fiction. Bring in the typical tortured male protagonist who’s lost something/someone and is now actively losing himself in reckless behaviour and a shy, almost-wimpy heroine (whose relationships are few and far between) determined to fix him while he kept saying he needed to keep away from her?

That same old story gets grating.

In addition, their tendency to imagine each other in bed at inappropriate times easily characterised every encounter they had when their paths crossed. In fact, the instant lust—that never really let up—hit me full in the face at their first meeting, where I was treated to a rather cringe-worthy scene of body parts hardening and getting wet in the middle of an life-threatening emergency.

Really? All I could think of as a result, was about the near-flat-lining patient as they argued over him with their mouths while their nether bits made happy, squishy noises.

In fact, Corrigan’s supposed-silver-tinged Irish accent (an oft-repeated word that Newbury likes to use) and a few slight touches from him had Amy stuttering like a dumbstruck teenager so easily, which soon enough translated abruptly into a sexual boldness and freedom that she thought he’d brought out of her.

And all of this came from nothing but surface interactions and hooded looks?

That this instant lust soon after, jumped madly to ‘love’ when they barely knew each other apart from some hot and heavy looks, unresolved sexual tension and some medical emergencies had me gritting my teeth.

To be fair, aside from the over-the-top porny bits that made this book read more like erotica than high-octane suspense, there was a sort of decent plot in there…buried as it was under all the talk and thoughts of sex, which really seemed like the dominant theme of the story. I would have enjoyed this much more had the emotional aspects of Corrigan/Amy’s relationship been dwelled upon, instead of their mutual fixation on each other’s bits.

In all however, this was a disappointment, though it seems Newbury’s style is now entrenched in this pattern from the few books I’ve read of hers.

She did it again. A really thrilling story with enough action and excitement for 3 books and a complicated love story only Helena can think of 🤷🏻‍♀️.
I love the unique and special way which Helena writes her books.
Amy 😍, a young and shy surgeon with emotional and self-esteem problems from Mount Mercy (small town in the mountains). Dominic 😍, hot, cocky, confident ER Doctor from New York. A couple that can't be more different, or maybe not? Sometimes things are not what they appear to be.
A beautiful story about loneliness and longing. A crime story about the cruelty of men without conscience and... no, as usual I'll not disclose what's going on in this book. You've to discover for yourself, so read this book and enjoy 😁. I definitely enjoyed it very well 🤗.
I recommend this book to all crime, action, romantic, heat 😉 and HEA fans.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read of Helena Newbury, and I have to say I really do enjoy her style of writing. The stories are well written, full of mystery and action. She builds the suspense throughout her stories, and just when you think it’s over she injects another twist to the story.

⭐️ [4.75/5 Stars] ⭐️

This author has very quickly jumped up to my favourites list. Well, from the two books I've read so far. I think I tried to read one from one of her other series and ended up dnfing it but this one and Alaska Wild were absolutely incredible. They're so action packed but they also have that steamy sexy connection between the two characters that's just irresistible. I debated on whether I wanted to give this one five stars since it really impressed me, but there were a few things that knocked it down just. a bit. The attention to detail in regards to all the surgeries was insane and so believable. When an author can successfully make me forget that I'm reading something fictional, then I count it as a win.

I liked these characters a lot and I really loved their connection, however, I did think it was a little bit too insta-lovey. Or insta-lust. They were a bit too drawn to each other in the beginning, but eh, it worked out okay in the end. That's mainly because I love a good book surounding mountains/being stranded. I just love how Helena Newbury always adds in some kind of action that makes the book way more intense. It's definitely a page-turner, that's for sure. The smut was steamy but not enough, I'd probably give it a 6/10.

Anyway I love this and it's 100% in my 2020 favourites!

Womp womp. I enjoyed this author’s previous book enough that I immediately bought ( bought !) this on audible. Unlike Alaska Wild, this one was a letdown.

Mount Mercy is essentially an extended Grey’s Anatomy season finale. One part (hugely unlikely) soap-operatic thriller, two parts medical drama. There are flatly written villains, a stash of secret gold, a freak storm with impeccable timing, and a new doctor (I almost said “sheriff”) in town with hots for the quiet, geeky surgeon and plenty of skeletons in his closet.

The romance is surface-level at best and the “drama” is tension-less and eye roll inducing.

One of the most forgettable romances I’ve read.

This book was much more than a medical romance. It was packed with suspense as well. Amy Beckett is a surgeon working in a small town hospital in Colorado. She's always been shy, hates big crowds, and doesn't normally talk a lot. She prefers to hide away for the most part, not wanting to draw attention to herself. Dominic Corrigan is loud, tattooed, and cocky, and while he's good at his job in the ER, word is he's been fired a couple of times for the unconventional way he has of doing things. He doesn't always play by the rules.

When a violent militia leader decides to rob the local bank of the gold bullion hidden there, his gang crosses paths with the hospital staff when some of the militia members are injured in a shootout. All of a sudden the hospital becomes a war zone where Beckett and Corrigan fight to survive while doing their best to keep anyone else from getting killed.

I really liked the characters. Both Amy and Dominic had their issues but falling in love wasn't an option. The two of them were able to work through any obstacles in their path, including the one endangering the entire town.

The suspense involved in the story had me sitting on the edge of my seat a couple of times. It was very well written. Definitely one I'd recommend.

This story was so freaking fabulous. I was so engrossed in the story, completely immersed, that when I had to go get my daughter from school, I stutter-stepped because I was expecting it to be a blizzard outside, not this 70* California winter.
Amy and Dominick were interesting and I could practically feel their chemistry coming off the pages… and the story had so many twists! I was NOT expecting that ending!

Omigod, omigod, omigod… This book was soooooo good. Extremely enjoyable! I loved it so much!

Setting in a hospital in small town, trapped by nature and human evil design, these two doctors had to rely on one another to save themselves and everybody around them. Of course, while also fighting their feeling toward each other. Amy and Dominic both were interesting characters. Likeable, relatable, frustrating, human. The setting might have been used in other books, yet the way Ms. Newbury told the story felt so fresh. This book basically had everything I wanted in a book. Suspense, thriller, romance, hot scenes and some grinning moments. Ms. Newbury would never fail you.

I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

I didn’t like the book at all, there was no character development of the two main protagonists and they were boring with no tension. It was like their relationship was on fast forward she was trying to fix him while he kept debating whether he should date her or not.

The plot was crazy, so unrealistic and hard to follow with all that was happening.

The only good thing was Seth’s character development (a side character).

4.5 stars!!! This would’ve been 5 stars for me with a longer epilogue or one more in the future! Two weeks in the future isn’t long enough and I would have liked to have seen them together when there’s no chaos throwing them together.

What a cute read.

Amy is a surgeon and prefers the OR to the ER. Dominic is an ER doctor who thinks Amy needs to get out once in a while, but is surprised by how attracted to her he is. When a blizzard comes to town along with dangerous individuals, Amy and Dominic find that they are both stronger together then they ever were apart.

I really enjoyed this story. There was a lot going on and it just made the story more interesting.

Amy and Dominic both evolved throughout the story and it really showed in their characters.

The side characters were also really well done and fleshed out. You felt that they were real people and not just background characters.

My only complaint would be that the romance happens incredibly fast. Dominic has a tragic backstory and I felt that despite him constantly saying he wanted nothing to do with Amy because of it, he still does nothing to really fight it. Amy is similar, just jumping into wanting a relationship with Dominic after barely 2-3 interactions.

I felt they didn’t have enough conversation about non-work things to really understand the other and that bothered me slightly.

Of course, despite this I really enjoyed the story and would for sure read it again.

This book was meh for me. 2.5-3 stars, I couldn’t decide. I loved the blurb, it completely drew me in. But the story was lots of inappropriately timed lust (you know, while a patient is dying by on your table but you can’t focus bc he’s hot!?), lots of (well written) sex, WAY too much drama, and then some wounded hero issues and “I love you’s” that gave me whiplash. Lust to sex to love? I missed the relationship forming, because I didn’t feel it actually happened. I felt their chemistry, but if some drama was traded for relationship development, it would have worked better for me. The final irritation for me...the SILVER accent. This described the H’s accent over and over and over. It was a bit painful.

Overall, despite the above, I did enjoy this book and had no trouble finishing it. I just think it could have been better, that the author could have made more of the story. There’s definitely action, but it eventually becomes over the top and takes am way from the book. Then there are some very sweet moments that I really liked and felt, so 3 stars overall.

Doctors and nurses alike flock to bask in big ego-ed, charming, confident, talented new ER doc Dominic Corrigan’s aura. On his first day, Dominic berates brilliant, nerdy, shy surgeon Dr. Amy Beckett when they disagree on an ER patient treatment then realize she’s there for a different patient but they’re both smitten.

Dominic only wants a night but quickly realizes Amy’s not that girl but they bump into each other often that day. Dominic treats a frightened gang member but before they can leave, their angry leader, Colt, comes in and Dominic helps Amy out of a precarious position. Amy replays the favor when Dominic he has issues with a child abuser.

A skeleton crew stays when white-out blizzard shuts the hospital and roads in and out of town as Colt and his gang prowl, pillage and work his master plan. Things go bad then worse when the gang needs medical help and Colt shares his irritation with all and sundry that his plan is upset but he’s not adverse to taking hostages to force his plan back on track.

They say everything happens for a reason. Amy ventured to the chaos of ER from her quiet and planned OR without realizing that that particular moment will change everything. She will grow into a strong woman and more "take chances" professional. And thanks to our sexy Irish doctor, Dominic. But oh, how much pain and guilt is hiding Dominic behind that cocky exterior. My heart went out for him. He deserved to be freed and meet someone like Any as much as she needed someone like him in her life.

He tries to resist her and keep her at arm's length but his lust and need to protect her overcomes it. From that moment onwards they can't catch their breath and us with them right along. There is always something happening, shootings, robberies, threats and them right in the middle trying to save lives, themselves and the little town. Fast paced, thrilling, steamy, dangerous all in this joy of a book. I loved it!!

I liked some parts of this book, but others were so over the top. I listened to this one because I really enjoyed Alaska Wild and it was recommended to me based on that. Im surprised such a long story was able to be pulled out of the premise of this book. I think I was about and hour in and I was questioning what could possibly happen in the set up to draw this one out. Well, the answer is a lot of realllllly dramatic and completely unrealistic events. Like we’re talking multiple shootouts, fires, blizzards, bombs, villains, field rescues- all saved by an ER doc, a reclusive surgeon, and their merry band of misfits. Throw in some past trauma, unrealistic medical practice, right-wing militia, and hidden treasure. Like this story is beyond wild. Maybe like 10 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy in 1 book.

Also, this story has probably the world’s fastest relationship development. But I guess with all the above happening it’s really pushes people together.

I don’t usually post written reviews- but dear lord. Every single cliche that could have been written into a book was in this one. Bombings, check, hospital drama worth of Grey’s Anatomy, check, car wrecks, check, insta love, check, gangs, check, FBI gold theft, check, best friend nearly dying, check, wife and child of main man murdered, check, main female shot, check, surgery at gun point, check, Irish accent, check, once in a lifetime blizzard, check, generator broken, check, powering the hospital ventilators with her electric car, check, driving 40mph on snow covered, blizzard, closed to everyone including ambulances roads, check.

Literally the only reason I finished was because my beach trip group was waiting for updates on the next most absurd drama.

Another fantastic, can’t-put-it-down read from Ms. Newbury! This story is a bit different from her others, but still gives the same suspense and steam! The small town hospital setting added to the dimension of the story, and I loved how we saw Dominic and Amy both confront fears and chaos in their world, all while doing it in a small town with lots of eyes. I was captivated throughout the entire story!

I received an arc and voluntarily provided my honest review.

Ms Newbury never ceases to amaze me with her stories. This one keeps your adrenaline pumping with laughs and tense moments. Set in a hospital ER that needs to shut down due to environmental factors. Check your beliefs about tattoos at the door.
Each of her books takes you to a different locale and situation Be sure to check out Alaska Wild too.

For the most part I really loved it,but at the same time, it’s way too busy and way to rushed....

For the most part I really loved it,but at the same time, it’s way too busy and way to rushed....

Wow, these two , Dominic and Amy, as a “couple” they were amazing..... great chemistry and rarely have I seen two ppl written in a way where they communicated so naturally and so concisely and succinctly with each other....
The way they so precisely knew d understood each other’s every look and touch and tone of voice was just amazing ,one might think it was too good to be true ...that all Corrigan had to do was look as Beckett as she tried to slip away in a crowd and she knew he wasn’t going to let her get away easily but she did and she was right..
Or that when he looked into her eyes a day later as he said her name,”Amy”,he was letting her go....
It was soo amazingly and beautiful to watch/see/read to characters soo in sync with each other, and it felt soo natural it feels believable from the first moment they meet...
That ,that was what I LOVED 💕.....
These two literally seemed made for each other and were a joy to watch develop and grow together ..
Problem was the pacing the pace was way,way too fact....
Indy speedway kinda fast,Black Friday as the doors or just about to open or close kinda fast ,while Beckett and Corrigan and how well they got and understood and interpreted each other felt true and believable for me the speed at which the relationship and saying “I Love You” wasn’t quite as believable and the overly fast pace of the story ending before the story of them as a couple feels like it’s really begun....

As I’m writing this I’m walking away with a bit of a love/hate feeling on this story, I love these too characters but I’m hating the fact that there was soooooo much action going on it’s them and around them to such a degree that we never really get to see the romance fully develop and grow like it should because there was just to much going on...
Between a militia group and being snowed in in a blizzard and trying to keep the hospital going to keep patients alive and hostage situations and saving ppl trapped in cars and ppl being shot at etc. all in the span of less than a week, a week I tell you !!!!!
It’s too freaking much!
Everything felt rushed at the end to be tied up and tied off in a neat little bow, problem was the story didn’t feel ready for the ending but the ending came anyway...
I’m seriously hating how too many ppl don’t put the couple REALLY together til almost the very end and then it’s over ..
How the heck can they really feel like a couple if five seconds after they say I love you and then your saying the end ?
While I loved the H and h and truly felt they were made for each other the adrenaline filled ride these to have to stay on for almost the entire length of the book makes it feel less believable... I mean the way they feel as they to each other while hit repeatedly during crisis after crisis this week might be how they feel next week when their lives actually calm down and their own lives aren’t in constant jeopardy....
⚠️ possible spoilers ⚠️
I mean at the very end of the book we go from Corrigan having to literally save Becketts life, her waking up and saying I love you to next page or soo the epilogue, and it’s three weeks later and Beckett is unsure as to if Corrigan is even sticking around..
What the heck ? you say ?
Yeah after all that, emotion and drama and supposedly “letting go and falling in love “ the h doesn’t even know if the H is sticking around ...
WTF
He assures he is and the end
No! Just No!
You don’t run us through all that and give us a lousy HFN ending...
Soo while I loved the characters and the beautifully natural flow and understanding between them , I hated the overly fast and overly drama filled pacing that left no time for a solid relationship to develop , leaving us with a “happy for now “ ending ..
That just bit hard...

Amy & Dominic
A very frustrating book. If you have been in healthcare and worked in a hospital setting this book will frustrate you greatly.
One of my biggest pet peeves is people who write books about healthcare and obviously know nothing about healthcare. So much unrealistic situations in the healthcare study that will have you rolling your eyes constantly and you will get a headache.
The MMC is an ER Doctor Who lost his wife and daughter a few years ago and has difficultly getting over them. He doesn’t want to disgrace his wife’s honor by having a relationship with someone else so he’s hesitant to start something with the FMC. But that doesn’t stop him from being a man whore who can sleep with multiple people and have one night stands. That apparently doesn’t disgrace her memory.
The FMC is a self proclaimed dormouse who is a loner.
She is a surgeon. A surgeon who apparently does any type of surgery.
There is not much relationship growth. The whole book covers about a week’s timeframe. They are “in love” with each other without having much conversation or relationship growth. She can “read” him by the 2nd day and knows he’s hurting and she knows his playboy ways are just a cover. The shy quiet person who hasn’t had many relationships can tell this by day 2.

They face a crisis situation and the hospital closes down, except for a few patients and minimal staff, including these two doctors, a nurse and a student and administrator who use to be a doctor. The student does so much patient care and cares for a gunshot victim on her own. Students do not have that kind of knowledge. And hospitals do not close like that. And the main doctors can’t leave the hospital to rescue someone or go home to sleep if they are the only mds available.

Then there is the instant love between the med student and the son of the bad guy.

So many frustrations in this book. My 1st read for this author. I am not sure if I will read any other books.

Survival and sacrifice, fated love and true bravery, what an amazing story!

Intense attraction, dangerous plot and vibrant storytelling are some of the great ingredientes of this novel. Scorching-hot romance in a freezing storm and blood-chilling threats? Not a minute to breathe! The characters are so appealing, too. Complete opposites, both doctors, with tragedies of their own that have shaped them.

From their explosive chemistry to the high-adrenaline environment of a ER in the shadow of a menacing mountain, the story rushes forward in a storm of emotions and bonding. I didn't think I'd love a medical background to a romance, but this one succeeds in injecting energy and soul into every scene. As it happens, the medical interventions serve to encapsulate and heighten the main characters' strengths, flaws and weak spots that make them so unique and interesting. There are also other supporting characters, minor romances and an evil man that bring detailed life to the plot.

And oh, the passion! The overflowing feelings! Corrigan is fighting against life-sucking demons and Beckett is opening like a flower that sees the Sun for the first time.

Blizzards, life-or-death rescues, bravery beyond comprehension, painful redemption, cold-blooded revenge, and more danger than the end of the world all mash together in a heart-stopping race toward safety and love. Not a second went by when there wasn't something huge going on, be it chaos, blood, death, a surge of pure love in the direst of circumstances, and two heroic people clinging to each other's beacon of hope to survive and find happiness.

I loved all of it, the hot and the breathless, the sweetness and the evil. Impressive.

Favourite quote: I knew I'd always prefer the calm but everyone needs a little chaos in their lives.

Mount Mercy, a sleepy, small-town Colorado hospital perched under a mountain, where the buildings date back to the Gold Rush and the people are friendly… a perfect place for the introverted but brilliant surgeon, Amy Beckett to quietly get on with her work saving patients. Though her widowed father told her that people like them did better isolated in labs, rather than amongst other people, Amy finds her peace in solving the puzzles she finds inside her patients: the bleeding arteries, the punctured lungs, the nicked organs. She’s a a bit of a hermit who has never really experienced excitement. Not until the new doctor joins the emergency room at Mount Mercy. Dominic Corrigan. Scarred Irishman. Ex-Doctors Without Borders. Sexy accent and killer abs. Sigh. He’s absolutely gorgeous, and the rumors are that he’s laid (and satisfied) every hot piece from Ireland to the Congo. But for some reason, he’s got Amy Beckett firmly in his sights! Corrigan’s dark past has made him relationship-shy (a true hit-it-and-quit-it kind of guy) and a bit reckless with his own safety, but something about him (maybe it’s the pain in his eyes), draws Amy to him and makes her realize that he’s not just a shallow manwhore.

Amy and Dominic’s lives intertwine at the hospital, which becomes the center of activity, none of which is good. No spoilers, but you should know that this is not just a love story, but a truly thrilling, action-packed adventure. Who needs coffee, when Helena Newbury serves up a tale which will get your adrenaline pumping harder than a double espresso!

Super freaking cute

These two give off such cute vibes, like the doctors from every romance show. They seek each other out in the hallways just to eye gawk each other with lustful intent, just to walk away and act like they didn't just eye Fuk.
I love the way Dom has this intense backstory that keeps him from forgetting the past, but instead holds onto it. Almost like a prison.
I almost cried when I read what happened between him and his past, which I won't spoil. Because you just gotta read it.
Amy's story is super sad, and it does a decent job at explaining why she's so quiet and closed off from the world. But I do wish they explained some more, maybe gave a little more detail. They never mention if he's still alive, if he is why don't they talk? If he isn't, then how? It seemed like her story was kinda pushed away by Dom's due to how better planned out his was compared to hers.

On another note, there boss? Why was he even in the book. 😂 I swear he was so useless other than One time in the whole book, heck it felt like Amy and Dom were running the whole hospital more than he was. Most of the book I forgot he even existed until they would randomly bring him back in as the boss authority figure. The poor guy was just cast away as a shadow.

The steam in this book, it's hot. It's intense. And it gets the cheeks flustered at least twice, using a really good vocabulary and way with words to make their scene seem so special to read.
Just like Alaska wild, I love this book. I can't wait for another book to read.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Amy Beckett and Dominic Corrigan. Amy is really better suited for lab work but she had found her nitch when she interned for surgery. The control and consistency made her excel in this field. However working the ER that is like her kryptonite. She can't focus she can't get into the right mind set and worst of all she sees Doctor Dominic Corrigan the man whore of doctors. She knows she is on his last step she just doesn't know why. Dominic has seen a lot in his life. He has worked in hospitals both here in the states and one in war torn countries but there is something that is driving him and he can't let the little mouse dig to deep to figure it out. Dominic however knows trouble when he sees it and when some guys come into the ER he knows something is up. With a storm brewing unlike any of them have seen in years coming can they figure it out or will they all be buried alive with the force?

This is an amazing story. There is so much to this story that I want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin any of the surprises for any other reader. I will say this book will take you on a roller-coaster that you will not want to get off of even when you read those two little words The End. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. This is a absolute must read.

Holy hell, that was romantic suspense at it’s finest. You get Mother Nature wreaking havoc, doctors not only fighting to keep people alive but fighting their obvious attraction and the evil gang leader is just the wrench to throw into this adrenaline pumping story.
Amy is the introvert of all introverts and she meets the luck of the Irish hottie Doc, Dominic. Or, let’s go by their last names, Beckett and Corrigan.
Corrigan is interested and Beckett is dumbfounded as to why. I loved the comparisons to high school when they were having lunch. But all hell breaks loose when the mother of all blizzards embarks the town and this pesky gang wants to destroy everything too!
This story was definitely a page turner. Every low came with a high and just when you thought, ‘okay, what can happen next?’ Something did just happen. It was the best 1990’s action summer box office blockbuster that I have read in a long time. Beckett and Corrigan not only discover what they have a the real deal but they have self discoveries too.
If you enjoy books where the H/h go through heaven and hell but still have time to ignite the sparks, then please pick up this book! You won’t be disappointed!
