The mighty Trill System has fallen to the Barelaon horde.

Lianetta Jansen and her ragtag crew flee the deadly Raylan Climlee, now calling himself Overload of Trill System. After a smuggling mission goes wrong, however, Lia and Caladan find themselves on board a prison ship heading for a remote asteroid. There they meet an incarcerated journalist from the secretive Cask System, who might hold the key to their escape.

On the remote fire planet of Ergogate, Harlan5 is left in charge of the Matilda. When the ship is hijacked by three young freedom fighters, the droid is roped into a mission which will bring him face to face with some of the deadliest creatures in the galaxy.

Giant creatures, outlawed tech. And a heartbreaking choice Lia must make if she is to give the Estron Quadrant a chance of survival.

Larry's take

Good one Chris. Everyone gets separated and has their own battles but is finally brought back together to fight the last battle. Some interesting new characters. Excellent series so far.

I was a little off of the story because I did not read the first two books. I love the books written by this author as the stories are always so well-written. The characters are wonderful as well.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Probably best to allow two days for this PG15 space opera which picks up where Fire Storm left off. It sort of works as a stand-alone, but I commend reading the earlier books first to avoid spoilers. I had an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.

Brilliant. And so, so much darker than the previous books.
This book has our main group from the previous books splitting into two, and then apart again. Harlan5 is left with the ship, Lia and Caladan get separated from the ship and then from each other - so there are various threads to follow during this book, but it meshes together well and is easy to understand.
As usual, there are twists in the story, and well-developed characters; there are also several new characters, just don't get too fond of them!
