The Siege is the fifth book in the Vampire Royals series by Leigh Walker and is another action packed and riveting vampire romance fans are sure to sink their teeth into.
Blake Kensington never expected when she took the position as Goodwill Ambassador to the North that she would find herself in love with a vampire prince and caught up in the war between the rebels and the royal family. Yet that is exactly the position she finds herself. As her relationship to Prince Austin Black strengthens day by day, there are whispers of an upcoming rebel attack set to destroy the vampires and dethrone them from overseeing the settlements. Blake would prefer not to see the people she is coming to love go to war, but as the werewolves also remain a problem and the dangers increase with every passing moment, battle may be the only choice. But when the worst occurs, will Blake be able to accept her newfound life before her and Austin are torn apart for good?
I first fell in love with this series with The Pageant and after five novels I’m still very much committed to the characters and the world they exist in. This series fun, romantic and action filled and perfect for those who still love sinking their teeth into well told vampire fiction. Leigh Walker took the series in a new direction with book four The North, setting the novel through the eyes of Blake rather than her friend and our former protagonist Gwyneth, something she continues with this fifth instalment whilst exploring more of the North itself and the vampires that call it home.
Blake still proves to be a very likeable protagonist, even as The Siege marks a very big change for her. I'll try not to give away too many spoilers, but this new direction for her life means she's forced to re-evaluate her stance on certain circumstances. She still manages to do this in her own kind, food obsessed and passionate way which I enjoyed.
As this book races towards some perilous battle scenes, I’m not sure exactly whether Walker intends The Siege to be the final novel, but I’d be lying if I admit I’d love to see more of some of the minor characters. Eve and Balkyn’s possible romance and blossoming friendship intrigues me. Plus it was nice to see Shaye and Tamara in this instalment as well—would like to see more of them as well, especially seeing as Tamara may have been her kindest yet in this book.
Brimming with romance and action, The Siege is another deeply enjoyable and quick Vampire Royals novel that will satisfy fans from beginning to end. Can’t wait to see what Leigh Walker does next!
