The Family Spells #1

The Family Spells

Rate this book
My new motorcycle riding soulmate is half-demon, half-witch and all douche.

A douche who hates my other three soulmates. He’s a tattooed bad boy with a bad attitude, and he’s definitely not into thrice-married me with four kids under four. He’s also in desperate need of an erectile dysfunction spell. Seems the dickhead can only get hard when I’m around.

Owning a potion shop, running a coven of witches, and spending time with my four kids and their half-vampire, half-werewolf, and half-fae fathers is a lot--even for a superwoman like me. But if I have to give the demon asshole what he wants to get him to help with a spell for my cursed mother, I’ll do it.

Even if it means my family will never be complete, that the Oracle’s prediction of me having four soulmates, four husbands to share a life with, is all a lie … I’ll do it. And I’ll do it with my witch’s hat tipped, my little black dress pressed, and my broom in hand.

THE FAMILY SPELLS (THE FAMILY SPELLS #1 of 3) - this is a full-length, reverse harem, paranormal romance novel with a 'why choose' ending, meaning the main character gets a happily ever after with more than one man. It contains naughty scenes, magic, witches, demons, vampires, faeries, and werewolves as well as four unruly kids, spells for just about everything, and plenty of cursing.

C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn't mind - especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.

She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she's not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She's the author of over thirty novels - romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There's a heck of a lot to do there.

This book was absolutely amazing. It had some of the most incredible world building with full detail and quite a bit of laugh out loud moments. And definitely spicy. It is a reverse harem after all. This is my first book from this author and it makes me more excited to continue reading more books from her.

Gracely, mom of four (two being half wolf shifter twins), a witch, and wife to three husbands, and as well as a shop owner called Passionate Potions and Sedictive Spells, Gracely has a full plate with life at the moment.

When a disgruntled and rude customer who smells like half demon, comes in for some ingredients for a potion for his umm… erectile dysfunction…. They both soon realize that they are soulmates. (Coincidentally he gets a hard-on only around her. 😂)
According to her Oracle she got years ago, she had a fourth soulmate waiting out there for her somewhere. Being in her 30s, she sort of gave up finding him. And she was OK with her current life with her three amazing husbands.
That was until her mother started dying and the only way to save her mom was to have all four of her soulmates together for a spell. Problem is this asshole soulmate wants absolutely nothing to do with her life because he is getting married to another demon per contract he agreed too.

I can’t even explain how much I loved this book.
It is a paranormal romance but it was so relatable. Gracely sometimes feels like she’s failing at being a mother and a wife and gets frazzled and her emotions are running high with all the stress that she’s going through.

Don’t forget the spice. She has three husbands so you know damn well this book is going to have spicy moments and they were 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.

It does leave off on quite a cliffhanger. And I unfortunately did not look this up before starting this book. The end of the book said the second book would come out in 2018 but it did not.
However, I did ask the author in her Facebook group and she is not making any promises but she is slowly writing the rest of the series regardless on how popular it is or not. She’s already wrote about 20K words for book 2 as of October 2021.
So she is definitely trying to finish up all of her older series and that’s all we can hope for! She’s hoping to have the book out by the end of this year and I am absolutely fucking excited for that! 5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I started the Underland series, I’d never thought that I’d truly fall in love with Stunich’s writing, characters and worldbuilding. She can sell me stuff I normally won’t like and there’s a big chance I’ll still end up loving it. Because, that was absolutely and truly the case with this book. It contained a lot of stuff I’m totally not into and yet I liked it anyway.

Although, it was kinda refreshing. A book about a woman my age (yes, that old), balancing taking care of her kids and her husbands (yes, plural) with her jobs (yes, also plural) and the care of her ill mother. As a single girl I have all the time in the world (hence why I can manage 365 books in a year), but it was great to see that not all main characters have to be single and naive and need a coming of age story.

And even though the book was quite heavy on the sex part (there were three husbands to keep satisfied and a soulmate bringing in loads and loads of sexual tension even though he’s an ass), I couldn’t really be bothered by it. It was part of Grace’s and her husbands’s lives, their dynamic, their normal daily routine. And Stunich is actually quite good at writing steamy scenes, which helps too.

This book contained less obvious plot than the other books I read from Stunich, but yet it did grab me and it was interesting. And I somehow get the impression that the plot, the actual storyline, has only just started with this awesome cliffhanger that makes me want the second book right now already.

Well, I’ve got a few more supernatural series from Stunich to read and then I might see if she can sell me her contemporary ones too. I’ll keep you updated!

What a witchy fun and hot tale. I wasn't quite what to expect with this one. I actually put it off longer than I intended because I just wasn't sure it was going to be my flavor of coffee. But holy Hael, that was spectacular. Now I'm itching for the next one!

The characters were all very fun, unique, and not your everyday paranormal witchy characters. The MFC isn't just a smart and sexy witch, and of course she is, but she's a little older being in her thirties, more grown and less barely legal that most books opt for, she's married, and she has four rambunctious little ones already. She's a bonafide woman, and it's nice to actually read a paranormal book where the MFC isn't barely eighteen, early twenties if you're lucky. That alone appealed to me a lot. Plus she's quirky, a little clumsy, but definitely assertive when she needs to be. She's a package deal, and I love it.

The leading males are all unique in their own ways too. I especially enjoyed the constant tension between Hex and... well everyone else.  This book is not the typical paranormal romance. And I was enthralled from page one.

I cannot wait to see how the story continues.

I'm not really sure how I felt about this story.
It was a cool plot line, but the fact that she already had three husbands and was lusting after another guy was a bit awkward for me.
I guess I'm just use to the girl getting her harem all around the same time (like she did with the first three husbands).
Having a fourth one come in years later, after kids are already born, wasn't something I was really comfortable with.
However, I finished the story and I'm curious to see where it will lead.
It ends on a cliffhanger.
And it is told from multiple POV's.
I would probably recommend it to others, but definitely after telling them of my hesitancy.

Heartwarming with a touch of drama

This book is shop different to other RH books out there poorly because of the family dynamic. It's fantastic! It's such a refreshing change to have an established relationship (with kids!) at the start of the story and going from there. And with the amount of mysteries in this book, I can't wait to see where it goes.

Side note: I love that this is set in the same universe as the author's Zara Wolf series. I'm a sucker for Easter Eggs and a combined universe!

This was fun. Not too taxing. That ending kind of came out of nowhere, some elements where expected but what happened to Grace was strange. I’ll definitely read the next one just to see what the hell is going on there.

Great & Fun Read!

It's the first time I've read a book where the coven was already together, with a whole life & kids, it was great to see. I love how we get glances at how they all met so we could understand more of the story. It was written great & I loved every minute of it. Grace is strong & powerful, smart & also vulnerable but I loved her spunk. The guys are amazing & each have something that completes her. Definitely need more & can't wait to read the next book!

Well this was a good start to the series. I liked the characters and there was good humor through out. I liked the way that her vampire/witch son was in love with her next husband before she was. I also liked how although they knew they were soul mates the relationship wasn't instant and they had to work at it. I liked the feuding coverts and how so many people influenced the relationship. I loved the idea that he was spelled and it affected his dick. I would like to see more of these characters.

The Family Spells is a reverse harem coven. While I liked the story, there was still something that caused me to feel disconnected to the emotional I normally like in a book. I am hoping the next book offers the reader more chemistry.

Liked the characters liked the story... loved the snarky banter. Perfect spooky season vibes. A witch, werewolf, vampire, fae, &demon on a mission to save witches mom. But something 🤔 just didn't click for me. I might read next book... might not?

Graceley has a great life. She's the high priestess of her coven, a powerful witch, and runs a potions shop. She has one wonderful familiar, three sexy soulmates, and four children. With her witch husbands being half-fae, half vampire, and half-werewolf, it's a powerful, eclectic, rowdy household. Almost perfect. But when her fourth soulmate walks into her shop it's clear that her world isn't complete. Hex isn't what she was expecting or wanting in her fourth. He's half-demon, he hates her husbands, hates children. He wants no part of her happy home or his soulmates but even if he did he's not available. As much as Grace would like to pretend she's not interested in him either, it would be a lie. Doesn't matter, however, she needs something from him and once she gets it, they are both free to live their lives and never see one another again. If only it were that simple!

The Family Spells is a change of pace for CM Stunich. It still has great characters, steamy sex, an entertaining storyline, and plenty of surprises. This book was set up like we joined the family's story in progress. They have a history before we joined in. The characters are older, they are a family with young children, and have family/coven responsibilities. I like the different tone this book has. Shows great versatility on the author's part. I love the amount of love within the home. I love most of Grace. I love how she's unapologetically herself. I love her witchiness. I am not a fan of her mothering. She is definitely more interested in her hot husbands than her children. I wish that she had been as fierce of a mom as she seems to be in every other aspect of her life. As a mom, I didn't like feeling that her kids were being pushed off on one of her husbands so she could go play with another throughout the book. Why hold it against Hex that he doesn't like kids if she really doesn't either? Spectre, Caine, and Argent are awesome. Arrogance, tempers, complete adoration. Hex was gorgeous but he didn't measure up to Grace's other soulmates. Too selfish, too power-hungry, too immature. A sexual attraction isn't enough, especially when you have three other men. It was an interesting dynamic to find the fourth after the family was firmly established. The parallel story regarding the coven is good and serves it's purpose well.

Of course, being a CM Stunich book the ending is memorable. Wow! This one had me gasping. I can't figure a way out of the mess without unfixable damage occurring. I can't wait to see how she proves me wrong!!

Short and fun little read

This was not your typical RH novel. I thought this was a fun and short little read . It wasn’t a serious, super amazing CM Stunich book that I’m used to but this story did leave you wanting more. It ended on a cliff hanger that could go in a lot of different directions and has the capability to really turn into a fantastic series.

Graceley Spells is married to Fae/Witch Argent, Vampire/Witch Spectre, and Werewolf/Witch Caine. They are all soulmates and deeply in love. But when Grace starts to feel her 4th soulmate nearby, all chaos breaks out.

The bit with the FMC already being married in RH with children was a different take that most RH don’t ever have that I personally loved. I also loved how Hex was struggling between what was wrong and right with his relationship to Victoria and sworn not because he wanted it but because of duty.

Graces harem was filled with very different type Alpha males that I want to get to know more and love when they all put everything they have into their woman. I look forward to the rest of the series.

CM Stunich put a spell on me!

Family Spells is the first in C.M. Stunichs new RH series and as you can guess from the title it involves witches. This is probably the first RH series I’ve read whereby most of the harem is already formed and along comes another soulmate to shake things up. Because of this I see a lot of potential for spin offs or flash backs who knows! I really enjoy the characters they’re not perfect and in some instances sinister but they are so well written you follow the emotional turmoil that occurs throughout. Also this is the first series I’ve read where there are kids already born and involved in the story, so many complexities. Grace and her husbands have been trying to find a way to save her mother from a terrible curse and along comes Hex who maybe the answer to their wishes but will he help is the question?! It’s a page turner with a major cliffhanger- I want more !!!!

3 stars. Ends on a cliffhanger when things really start going.

The book isn't bad, but it could be better. I enjoyed the husbands though it was weird for me to have an established harem who needs to welcome a fourth. This harem already has 4 kids, and 3 husbands and it bothered me a bit. I like to see how the couples come together.

The story is definitely unique though. Especially since the newest H has an erectile dysfunction problem. It's pretty funny. All the things surrounding this whole side plot.

However, I didn't like how the book just barely got started, it took a long time for it to get there, and then it cliff hangs. Like I know that it was going to happen, but the way in which it happens sucks. It's because it's in the heat of the action and before we were just doing mundane things and now actions and then end.

So I was disappointed and because of that I'm giving it a 3. It was good, it could be better, and not cliff hanging right there would have been better.

I was sort of iffy on reading this one, and I keep putting it off. Well I'm sorry I did, because I loved it!
Our MFC was a riot, I loved her. She strong, funny, witty, smart, but she also know's were her weaknesses are.
I can not wait for "what the hex'.

P.S I just want to how much I love this author, however it is so frustrating as a reader that she decided to put this book ( and many others ) on a back burned because it didn't make as much money in sales. Quite frankly it probably would have made more if we didn't have to wait over a year for the next book.. which the author has already stated has not even been started.

Ahhh!!!

I should have seen it coming but I didn’t... so it smacked me right in the face! That’s what that cliffhanger did. Ugh... I’m normally a very patient person, but CM Stunich’s books really challenge that. They’re so freaking amazing!! I’m REALLY looking forward to the next book. I MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!! :)

Oh this is a delightful departure from the last few books of CM Stunich I've read—all of which were very good and I enjoyed reading them, but tonally this is rather lighthearted abd so far, not as dark (so far) and a really lovely take on a family dynamic. Can't wait for the next one!

Unique

This was a cute story. I loved the fast pace. Grace was a confident character that brought a uniqueness that I haven't seen in a female MC in awhile. I was very unsure at first but just having a somewhat completed bond helped me get over it.

A great idea that fell a little short

I'm a huge C.M. fan. Read most of her books and have never been disappointed, so naturally I was really looking forward to this book. The idea was very unique and cool, a polyamorous family of witches with a potion shop, 4 kids, and a fun hectic life, however the MC is still searching for her 4th soulmate. The story had a very cozy witchy Halloween vibe that really drew me in but I had 2 huge problems with this book which is what made me go down from a 5 star review to a 3 star. The first is that I didn't like how the aspect of having kids was portrayed in this book at all. The MC makes a few jokes about being a "bad moms" type of mother which is definitely fine and relatable because every mother feels that way sometimes. But I dont think there was even one meaningful connected scene that she had with her children in this entire book, she was more concerned with sexy time with her husbands or being judged for being a different type of mom and it really almost felt like she didn't really like being a mom. The kids were constantly getting pushed out of the picture and taken away by the husbands and it just didn't connect for me at all. It felt like the kids were thrown in as an extra because a lot of people have wanted to see how an RH would work with children and it really fell flat. The second issue I had was that reading this book felt like I jumped into the middle of an ongoing series. There were so many little comment made here and there about her past and all these wild things shes been through and how she met her other husbands and I really wished that would have been explored more. I honestly started reading and went back and checked to make sure this was actually the first book in the series. It just left me with an odd feeling like I was missing something the whole time. I would have liked for this to be a true RH where we start at the beginning because I would have liked to see how the family came together and maybe it would have helped me understand the MC's priorities a bit more. All in all I'm still a huge fan of C.M. I feel a bit guilty about writing a not completely positive review because I am such a loyal fan but I always give an honest opinion. Will definitely read book 2 and hope that it changes my mind!
