I was lucky to get an ARC of this book. Oh my what a father can expect his daughter Brooke to do to a fellow employee just to get higher up. Will Brooke succeed in helping her father, just to save the pet adoption agency? Time will tell as she gets to know Hayden. Hayden hired Brooke as his assistant but her father has other plans while she in that position. I totally loved this book. A page turner for definite. Brooke and Hayden start to like one another and the feelings get stronger everyday. The ending was very tense and it keeps you focused on what will end up with Hayden and Brooke and the adoption agency for pets. Great book K.D. Black. I look forward to reading more of your books. 5 star read, oh yeah!!!!!

Short, Sweet, and Spirited

“I Need to Get Over You (Over You Series Book 1) by K. D. Black is the perfect book to curl up with on a lazy weekend. This book shows that initial appearances are not everything they might appear. Action in this book is on romance, a little on business protocol and not so much on character development. It is well written except for a few items here and there. The characters find a way to live happily ever after.

Three people compose a triangle of emotional and business interactions in which nothing is ever free. Brooke McColl is a super volunteer at an animal shelter. She makes enough money at her professional, but a part-time job, as a Market Research Analyst. This helps to pay her share of the rent for the apartment she shares with her father Darren McColl. Dad is the second side of the triangle. He wants dirt on Hayden Nicholson the third side of the triangle.

Dad promises Brooke that he will donate a large sum to the animal shelter as well as a monthly payment to it.. Brooke becomes the mole by applying and getting a prestige administrative job with Hayden. She promises to find dirt on Hayden so Dad and other board members of Hayden’s firm. This will oust board members sympathetic to Hayden, and make way for Darren.

The whole premise of this novel bowled me over. For Brooke, it was as if she was darned if she did, and darned if she didn’t. Both Brooke and Hayden are intelligent, know their business specialties well, and hold the promise of making a great couple both romantically and business-wise. There is really no need for either to get over the other. They need to get the stumbling blocks out of their relationship and go on to "happily ever after."

Brooke works at an animal rescue center, New Yorkie Animal Rescue, and loves being there helping the animals. But she gets the bad news from their Executive Director, Ashley, that they may need to close down the shelter due to lack of funds. She even donated her own paycheck to help them stay open a bit longer until they could think of something. Even a fundraiser costs money, and they just don’t have it. So keeping that in mind, when her father asks if she was still looking for a full-time job, she says yes. He heard of a position as Administrative Assistant at AutoVS – in fact, it was to assist Hayden Nicholson, the CEO of AutoVS. But when Brooke said she wasn’t interested, he decided to be more direct. He told her some of the board members questioned Hayden’s commitment and they needed an inside person to sort of spy on him and find some dirt so they could force him to step down. In actuality, her father wanted the CEO position. So he also said that he would give a large donation to her New Yorkie Rescue shelter to help them out.

As it turned out, the more Brooke and Hayden worked with each other, the more she saw that he actually was the best person to run the company. Would she risk the donation to the shelter by being honest? Would she confess what she had been doing to Hayden and risk losing him?

I enjoyed reading Brooke and Hayden’s story. I was disappointed in Brooke’s father who manipulated her to get her to spy for him, but I guess that may be typical in many cases of power struggles in upper management. The characters were developed well, letting the reader know their motivations and personalities. The story line was well-paced and believable. Grab your copy and see how it all turns out!

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Hayden, a billionaire businessman who hires Brooke as his personal assistant. Brooke's father is one the board of directors at Hayden's company and wants Brooke to spy on Hayden to get information to use against him to make him step down as CEO. Her father wants to take over the company and promised Brooke he would give money to the animal shelter she volunteers at if she gets the information. Brooke dislikes Hayden when she starts to work for him and finds he is very arrogant. Hayden is attracted to Brooke and wishes he could tell her how he feels. Hayden is very pleased with Brooke's work and how she gets everything he asks for done. Brooke would like to hear a thank you from Hayden and thinks he just takes advantage of her. When they start to get to know each other, Brooke realizes Hayden is very good at his job and she wonders if getting the information is the right thing to do. I liked this story, i really liked Brooke and Hayden together. I think Hayden was a little arrogant and should have told Brooke he was pleased with her work. Well done.

I enjoyed this quick read which kept me wondering how things would turn around for Brook, our heroine. She's supposed to spy on our hero as her dad doesn't think our hero should be CEO of his own company. Daddy dearest says his motives are altruistic, but he just wants to be CEO. He dangles saving an animal shelter near and dear to Brooks heart to get her to go along with the scheme
Our hero Hayden needs to brush up on his people skills (saying please and thank you are a big pet peeve of mine!) And I wasn't sure when Brooke would come to her senses (she's a great girl doing something bad for a good cause) I liked the story, the writing, the relationship build up and what a great guy Hayden turns out to be. Can't say anything good about her father. Hayden and Brook together are combustible. Which is kind of funny, as she doesn't really like him in the beginning. This was a really good and enjoyable escape! Read it and enjoy!

I rated this 4.5; however, being that I had to choose between a 4 and 5, I rounded up. I enjoyed the story line; however, based on the title my expectation was way off. This story is more about someone trying to help an animal shelter and is bribed by her father to get scoop on the current CEO of a company that he is a board member for his own gain. Brooke (daughter) goes in to be an assistant to Hayden (CEO) and ends up falling for him. Hayden catches on to Brooke about snooping for information and confronts her with it. This doesn't change his view of her as he has fallen for her too for which he promises to make a donation to the animal shelter that is dear to her heart. A very cute and loving story, just the wrong title for me.

Brooke's father asks her to apply for the CEO's personal assistant of the company he works for so she can spy and get him info. that he needs to prove that Hayden is not a good CEO and he will become CEO. He promises his daughter that he will make a big donation to the animal shelter that she has worked for since high school. Brooke believes she can do it for the animal shelter until she falls in love with Hayden but she keeps telling herself it's for the shelter she hasn't known him long she can do it. I love this book but the plot in great characters I recommend reading it.

ONE INCREDIBLE TALE!!!
Whoa baby! Talk about riding the edge. This is one exciting, fast paced, action packed, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning bombshell that captivates from the start. All the twists and turns, unpredictable surprises and unexpected circumstances make for one incredible experience. Drama, lies, deceit, secrets, fear and suspense build throughout while tension spirals as the tale unfolds. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. Black did an amazing job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Black, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.

I really want to like the book but I hate a liar and I think Brook is the liar one even if her motive is for helping the shelter. Her father is so selfish and she still help him. I think she should come clean after witness Hayden helping his sister and her kid adopt a dog, he will help her, if she give him a reason but she keep working for her father, though. And Hayden forgives her so easily. The last reason why I give this book 4 stars because I don't understand why use the title "I need to get over you" because I don't feel like Hayden or Brook try to get over each other at all. Arghhhhh.

Great Read!

I loved this novella. This is my first story I read by K.D. Black. I love how she characterizes Hayden as the douche bag boss initially & when the layers are peeled away, he becomes the hot boss. Brooke finds a way to save an animal rescue business where she volunteers. Being a spy is not her specialty & she fails miserably. A positive outcome results with a second chance having a connection with Hayden. I would recommend this novella. I'll be looking forward to reading more of her stories.

Five stars. Really enjoyed reading Brooke and Hayden's story. She accepts the position of administrative assistant for the sole purpose of finding evidence to have Hayden removed as CEO. Brooke agreed to do this because her father wanted the position as CEO. He also promised to give a large donation to her New Yorkie Rescue shelter. Her father was on the Board of Directors and was sure he could do a much better job of running the company. Brooke had misgivings but was willing to do anything to keep the shelter from closing. The longer they worked together, she came to realized that Hayden was the best man to continue running the company. I recommend this book to anyone that likes romance with a little heat.

This was the first book I read by this author, the story was about Brooke going to work for Hayden, a ceo of the company her dad works for. Her dad wants her to find dirt on Hayden so he can become ceo instead. She only accepts because her dad promises to help an animal shelter that she loves.  I found this to be good read. I did receive this book as an ARC and am leaving a revie voluntarily.

Always think before you act

OMG! Can Hayden be any more adorable to be able to forgive Brooke after he catches her? This wonderful romantic story has humor, manipulation, sexual tension and a happily ever after. Just get yourself a nice cup of hot chocolate, a quiet night on the couch and you can't go wrong with this well written must read book.

3.5 stars. Brooke volunteers at a pet rescue that is in danger of going under. Her father encourages her to get an AA job with the CEO Hayden to get information to get him fired using the bribe of supporting the rescue if he get Haydens job. Problem is, they are having feelings for each other. Can she turn on him to placate her father? Short and sweet.

To keep the New Yorkie Animal Rescue open Brooke makes a deal with the devil that devil just happens to be her father he convinces her to get a job as the assistant to Hayden this is so she can get inside information as her father wants to become CEO if the company. When attraction blooms between Brooke and Hayden will she tell him the truth and if she does will he be able to forgive her so they can have a HEA You will need to read to see

A good read with an interesting storyline. It is well written and easily read in one sitting. Likeable characters with amazingly hot chemistry between them. The pace is a bit slow and it could have ended better (in my opinion) – not enough closure provided.

This is my second read and have thoroughly enjoyed both. Good storyline that flows well with incredible characters. I loved Hayden and Brooke together. They both actually became better people. The plight of animal rescue shelters is also addressed. The sex scenes were hot. Excellent read.
