Hannah Prescott has an overzealous admirer whose advances have gone from challenging to terrifying. There is only one solution: Nikolai Ivanov. Nikolai, with his tendency towards violence and connections to the Russian mob, is exactly who Hannah needs to keep herself safe.
Nikolai Ivanov has had no use for relationships. However, witnessing Hannah's distress and fear pulls him at ways he doesn't want to admit. He agrees to Hannah's charade, but is determined to keep it impersonal. At first. Against his will, all of his protective instincts are triggered and while he wants to create distance between himself and Hannah, he can't keep his hands off of her.
Nikolai's father creates more problems when Hannah and her younger sister are threatened in attempt to control Nikolai. Can Nikolai keep Hannah and her sister safe while admitting how important Hannah has become to him?
09/08/24 reread : i enjoyed my reread. This is a good, even if it’s a debut novel. The writing is a little rough in places, some telling rather than showing (particularly in the beginning), some awkwardness, but there’s enough good stuff for me to keep going. This book has one of my favorite dressing room scenes. 🔥🔥 It’s probably not a 5-star for me anymore but im leaving the rating because I’ve come back to it so many times. Just a really fun highschool mafia read with all the elements that make me happy. 💕

Original review 05.15.2021:
Love this high school mafia romance. Nikolai is a reluctant savior to Hannah, who is being stalked and harassed by another guy at school. He quickly starts feeling things he doesn’t understand. He’s a jealous and possessive alpha, and can’t seem to stop acting like a dominant caveman with innocent sweet Hannah. It’s a fun story and a frequent reread. 💖
⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️
- no cheating or sharing - OW drama - nothing too crazy but he does kiss a girl in front of the h to push her away early in the book - it’s before he’s kissed the h yet - and old hookups get jealous of the h, but the H only wants the h - no OM drama - besides the crazy stalker - no dubcon - attempted assault by OP - sex trafficking referred to - H is not involved - h is 18 yr old virgin - H is a 18 yr old manwhore
3.5 “It’s impossible to look at any situation with a guy reasonably when you like him,” Stars
Nikolai was recommended to me by a friend, and I figured... why the heck not? I guess this book is the authors debut, and honestly I feel that her writing is on par with some authors who have been writing for awhile. I can’t say that this book is incredibly unique plot/trope wise, and it didn’t blow me away, but I did enjoy the story. It was entertaining and I liked that the hero was a healthy balance of alpha and sweet. The heroine is this nerdy girl who is trying not to be noticed for reasons, and reading her break out of her shell was fun. This reads very new adult which is my favorite, so you throw in the mafia element and I’m golden. It’s not long and draggy, which I appreciate, and it’s just an easy read!
Also I’m pumped for the potential for more to come from the characters in this book. Mob related and non mob related! I enjoyed the authors voice and can’t wait to read more of her work to see how she grows, because in my opinion from reading this book she has some clear talent!
I was automatically drawn to this book from the synopsis. So glad I did. This story has it all. A coming of age with a glimpse of future stories. A girl finds herself in desperate need of saving. Hiding under baggy clothes trying to not be noticeable. Jeff who has been bullying her since 9th grade is becoming more aggressive. She can’t fight against him for her word against his she would loose. An idea has her turning to Nikolai the son of a Russian Mob Boss. He listen too her plead for help and finds himself agreeing to help. This is their story. Be warned this is very hot and may cause trigger too some with ptsd from bullying. Hot, sexy and memorable.
I read alot of mob related romance books an so the cover and title really pulled me in, but then when I read the plot I was put off by the fact that it was high school aged characters. I do not like steamy romance books where the characters are in high school, but I decided to give this book a shot. I am glad I did. This book is very much bad boy meets good girl. I really enjoyed the romance between Hannah and Nikolai. Nikolai was very much the typical bad boy with Daddy issues. Hannah is very much the beautiful girl hiding behind a nerdy look. If you enjoy books where the bad boy gets the good girl then this is a great read. I have this five stars because the only thing in my opinion I did not like was the age of the characters but that's just my preference. Everything else was a positive. I look forward to the next book in this series.
The synopsis sounded good but the execution was poor. This story is filled with high school clichés. I mean the h was beautiful but bc she wasn't wearing figure-hugging jeans and a revealing top, the H wouldn't look at her twice. And when the hot H finally agrees to pretend with her, she keeps getting upset that he doesn't have real feelings for her. I wanted her to have a backbone and not settle for a guy that plays with her but nope. The H couldn't understand why he was so affected by the h so he made out with another girl in front of the h. So stupid! The h was actually bothered by this which I didn't get since they are NOT in a relationship. Don't get me started on all the drinking and sex every teenager does in this book. Apparently, that's normal. I have worked with that age group both in general and psychiatric settings and that is not a real depiction of them. That's something you see on a CW show.
I really enjoyed this debut novel by Kristin Alexander. Hannah needs help with a stalker who is escalating so she turns to the scariest guy at school, Nikolai for help. Nikolai is intense and completely closed off until Hannah, the story is well, thought out, the drama may be a little ott for high school but it still makes for a really good read. No cliffhanger, but there looks like there will be more stories in the series, Katya and Drago, Jack and Ava and the one I really want to read Ivan and Emmy. Overall I was hovering between 4 and 5 stars but decided on 5 because it is her debut and an impressive one at that. I will definitely be following her, impatiently waiting for more books!
Kristin Alexander's first novel, "Nickolai (Dangerous Love, # 1)," is smart, funny, and sexy. Alexander deftly thrusts relatable characters in a compelling adventure. The dialogue is witty and the plot is well paced. Book one in "The Dangerous Love Series," leaves the reader eagerly anticipating the next installment.
For a first book I really enjoyed it had a good plot written well and gave just enough hints on following books .I can see 3 interesting storylines coming up I'll look forward to reading them
Surprisingly I couldn’t stop reading the book. Keep me hooked from beginning till the end. Looking forward to Jake & Ava, Emmy & Ivan, Karya & Drago stories next. Hope it will be out soon. Please don’t keep us waiting too long. xx
Completely loved this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Nikolai who is Russian Mafia royalty and Hannah, the sweet shy nerd, are complete opposites from two different worlds but they pair beautifully together! Even with Nikolai being deliciously alpha, Hannah grows and flourishes as a person! She becomes stronger, confident, and makes true friends. This is a super steamy and sexy read! Definitely New Adult! Some people might have a problem because they are supposed to be seniors in HS. No way do I buy that, which made it very easy to read and not feel taboo. What I mean is HS kid do not dress, talk, drink, or have sex like these characters. Nikolai’s sexual prowess, abilities, and desire for Hannah’s pleasure are not believable for a HS senior. All of the side characters are much older and greatly contributed to the story!! I really hope we get more Drago, Ivan, Emmy, and Katerina😉 Maybe age up the 16 year old Emmy!
Thank you so much to the author for this ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Hannah has a bit of a stalker problem so she goes to the bad boy Nikolai for help. Lucky for her he helps and a fake relationship is born. As expected it does not stay fake for long. I love it when the bad boy gets knocked off his feet with no idea what to do with his feelings and this is Nikolai. Loved Hannah and Nikolai, they were great together especially when he stopped trying to stop his feelings. Add in some mafia drama and there you have this book. An unexpected romance which has you routing for the couple. I will be reading the next books in the series as the side characters were also great.
2.5 stars. Hannah is being harassed mentally and physically by the principal’s son. Hannah is scared so she asks the hero for help. The hero is known as the mob’s son. He is scary and people are afraid to approach Nikolai.
I hate to say this but the writing was mediocre. I love bad boy falls for good girl stories. I love them!! However, some parts of this story fell flat. The chemistry was there, but execution of the story was lacking.
What a pleasant surprise! Kristin Alexander is a new author to me and this story had me turning pages. I absolutely fell hard for this book. Can't wait to read the rest of the series. Job well done!
This was such a cute book! I think it started off a bit rough, but quickly got its groove. Nikolai was perfect as the alpha Bratva high schooler, lol. Loved how protective he was of Hanna, even when he was trying not to be. Hannah was just so sweet and dorky and super endearing. I liked how Kristen wrote het as a reasonable person who was willing to listen despite any insecurities she had about Nikolai. Can't wait to read the next one!
Really enjoyed this book! And this coming from someone who usually avoids NA books like a child avoiding broccoli. Storyline was entertaining with intensity and moments of levity, and consistently flowed. Romance and sex scenes were super fantastic and Nikolai’s possessiveness was on point. Enjoyed the world created and look forward to reading more of these characters - - crossing fingers for a future Emmy and Ivan story ;)
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was well written and an interesting story line. I do like novels about mob members and they’re always filled with suspense and so much passion. I can’t wait for another books in this series. Already looking forward to Katya’s and Emmy’s stories.
This one didn’t really work for me. I really wanted it to because one paper it sounds so good! Traumatized shy innocent h who has been stalked for years needing the help of the badass H who has anger issues and is connected with the mob. Sounds so good! But it just wasn’t my speed and I had trouble with the execution.
Mafia is a genre that I’m super picky about and this one has a lot of those typical mafia plotlines and politic mafia issues that I’m not really a fan of. This book was heavy on the plot too and there are a lot or characters for a book this short, it basically just took away from the romance to me. I really didn’t care about Emmy or Katya lol and just wanted to write them out 🤣😅 so I could have more of our two MCs together!
That was honestly what bugged me the most about this one we just didn’t get enough of them! It was just too insta and there wasn’t enough relationship build up from either side for me. Their relationship felt rushed just to make way for the plot. The author was never super successful in making me feel why these two were the ones for each other. She went from asking him for help to being jealous in a few a hours, which was majorly cringy. I guess it could have worked if she had had a crush on him for years and it had that whole unrequited thing going on but it just felt a lot like hero worship and that was not hot. I felt like she would have fallen in love with whoever helped her.
I did like him and how J/P he was and a lot of their interactions were super cute and they had nice chemistry in their steamy scenes so there was enough there to keep me reading but just not enough of it make this one a solid read for me.
A very interesting book that I know it could work to be something more, to be better! The author managed to built the skeletons for future books, leaving us wanting more. About the characters there is no big difference in them, the author left the girl pretty shallow and did a lot to make Nikolai the "bad boy". Everything was too fast in their relationship and if this is what you like, good, but it's not my cup of tea. I hope she change this a little bit, I understand she had only one book to explain the whole world she had in her mind. Overall I'm excited to see Drago and Ivan story!
I am completely in love with this book!!! I took a chance on a recommendation a friend gave me and omg I’m so glad i took that chance because Nikolai was fanfkntastic!!!!
I get a little nervous about reading books set in HS..all the cliches and childish petty drama kill it for me but not this one..not only was this a sexy HS romance it was also a Russian Mafia romance and it rocked my world!!!
Also the side characters were great too...I need every single one of them to get a story. Nikolai is definitely a must read!!
Very good read, would definitely recommend. The characters were thought out well. For this to be the authors first book it was awesome. Looking forward to other books
I love me some Nikolai. Kristin did a great job of pulling me in and keeping me hooked until the last page. Who doesn't love a good mob book, seriously?
