Lynda lives in Cheshire in the UK. She runs a successful financial business with her husband. As a young teenager Lynda used to read horror books with a love for everything Stephen King and James Herbert. She has always wanted to write and even wrote horror stories at age 13/14. A little later she started reading Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper and has always had a love of books. This then exploded with Twilight and Fifty Shades as it did with most people, oh, and the introduction of E-Readers. In her spare time, she has a season ticket for Manchester City Football Club and goes to all the home games. Loves going to concerts and the theatre. She goes to the cinema at least once a week. Then when the weather is nice you can see her gliding down the road on her Harley Davidson 1200T motorbike. Travelling is also high on the agenda and her dream is to visit every state in the USA. She would love to hear from you.
This is the stupidest book I've ever read. I'm not even sure there's a plot to make a summary for a review. This is the author's first novel and you can tell. The writing is juvenile. It is 100% tell and Zero show. I felt no connection to the characters and the dialogue was unnatural - forced.
Oh.... Wow! I first saw the cover of “Cat Fish” at The Brighton Book Bash on 10th November. The artwork really drew me in and with a little encouragement from my book buddy Philomena I decided to have a read. This book is just stunning. It’s gruesome. It’s nail biting. It’s raunchy. It’s creepy. It’s addictive. I loved it! I have never (thankfully!) tried internet dating and I can safely say I never will after reading this! I learnt some interesting facts and terms used and am so glad I will never need to fully understand them! A superb read and now I’ll be hard pushed to find another book that will mess with my head as much as “Cat Fish”.
Okay...review time. I needed a day to process my feelings on Lynda Throsby’s debut novel, Catfish.
We’ve all seen MTV’s show, so we’re all pretty familiar with the concept. Befriend someone online. Share private, personal information, pictures. Even have telephone conversations. Only, it’s not the real person sharing. It’s all stolen photos and made up life stories. With that being said, here’s my review.
George is a deranged individual. Having barely survived a disgustingly horrific childhood, he’s made it his life’s mission to rid the world of whores like his mother. How does he do that? He creeps pubs looking for women who remind him of her and created a dating profile to scope out the online selection. But of course he didn’t use his own info. He used (unbeknownst to him) a famous model’s picture and name, Lewis Clancy.
Enter, Katherine. She’s a successful property developer with no one to share her life with, so she started online dating. Poor thing, bless her heart, she’s had just about every bad experience you can imagine happen to her while meeting these internet creeps. But then she meets “Lewis” handsome gentleman that knows just what to say. Although hesitant to meet up, she decides she’s going to throw caution to the wind and see where it lands her. That is until she randomly meets the “Real Lewis” and they quickly figure out she’s being scammed.
There is so much thrilling drama in this story, some seriously sick and twisted scenes that had me questioning my morality more than once. Yet I loved it still! It took me places I surely wasn’t expecting and had a surprisingly happy ending.
I only dropped a star because I could see some hesitancy in the writing style but the plot is like no other. Certainly an imagination on this one! Well done on your debut, Lynda, you should be proud of yourself!
4.5 Stars for Catfish If I hadn’t known in advance that Catfish was Lynda Throsby’s debut novel I would never have guessed because her writing skills are superb and I really believe she has a bright future ahead of her. Catfish is everything you fear about online dating, the person we are speaking to us not who we think they are their profile is built using stolen information for personal gains... This book will draw you in it will captivate you and you won’t want to put it down. If you are looking for a book that’s full of romance, suspense, intrigue with plenty of twists and turns this is the book for you. Lynda did a great job of letting believe we knew exactly what was going to happen next only for her to throw another curve ball in the mix, looking forward to reading more by her.
It took a bloody long time for me to get through this book and at no fault of the book or writing just life!!
This book is a dark, twisted, yet beautiful debut by Lynda. I loved it, with the silly season, change is work hours, school holidays I barely had time to charge my kindle let alone pick it up and read anything but I kid you not I thought about this book and where it was going every day until I got to pick it up again yesterday at 25% and I finished it this morning!
Congratulations to Lynda on your debut. It was fantastic!!
Oh my gosh - where do I start?! I was on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t put Catfish down (often staying up way past my bedtime to “read just one more chapter”. I thought I knew what what going to happen, but Lynda put in some amazing twists. I can’t wait to read more books by Lynda.
This is Lynda's debut book and I'm impressed. This has it all, intrigue, suspense, sex and romance. Love the twists and turns, left me on the edge of my seat at times. The way it ended could mean another book, hopefully soon. I really enjoyed this.
I wasn’t sure about the story line when I picked up this one to read. But, it was great! It’s was crazy and detailed and really enjoyable to read! The characters are very well developed and the plot twists are amazing!!
I really enjoyed this book and was hooked from the beginning. This is my first book from this author. It is definitely dark and has so many twists and turns that keep you on your toes! The cover is 🔥 as well. That ending?!?!?! Maybe we might see a sequel? I would love that!
Lynda Throsby is a completely new author to me and I was drawn into the cover of this book before I had even read the blurb on the back. I had heard of the term "catfish" and was intrigued by the premise of the story. A successful woman using a dating site to try and find love, but ends up gaining the attention of two men. Who will get the girl?
As I got through the first couple of paragraphs I instantly thought this might be another fifty shades wanna be, one of the main characters picking women from the dating site that looked like his abusive mother. This book tried to be dark but for me it didn't have that grit or rawness that other books have. There was no other links to fifty shades in the end.
I did find that the writing flowed well and I found it easy to read, I wouldn't say I was gripped but more intrigued to see what was going to happen next. The story is seen through three different view points and occasionally it got a bit repetitive, going over the same scene. I noticed the occasional typo throughout the book but it didn't have a big impact on the story overall.
Some of the story got a bit predictable, and I was disappointed with the ending. It has left the possibility of a sequal but I feel that the story should have been wrapped up in one book.
I enjoyed the story and it was an escapism for me but I didn't fall in love with the book.
This dark and twisted debut novel of Lynda Throsby will keep you on the edge of your seat!! Crazy stalker/killer, sexy model hero and beautiful, strong heroine makes for a perfect thriller romance. As a debut novel I must say Lynda really poured her heart and soul into these characters. The story line was well developed and kept you turning the pages in anticipation! I must mention her excellent choice in covers with handsome Stuart Reardon adorning it!! Congrats Lynda, well done!! Looking forward to more from you!!
I wasnt sure what to expect before I started reading this book.. I dont usually read blurbs.. all I knew it was dark and twisted and wow it did not disappoint on that at all! Kate is looking for love after having more than one disaster with meeting men.. George is the dark twisted mentally unstable man that's shes met online.. But believe me there is SO much more to this story than that! Theres many twists and bumps in the story that keep you hooked into reading!
First time reading this author I originally brought the paperback because I loved the cover then I read it omg so good a bit dark in places not to dark but a great read But that ending !!
I loved the concept of this and it worked really well with the different perspectives. It is well written, very well thought out, I loved the thriller and romance combination and the sex was HOT
