A very thorough character study. The reader can form their own opinion of the military service of CPT Williams as every aspect of his service is presented from a variety of sources and opinions. The book also provides an interesting revelation of the way the draft boards and Marine Corps treated celebrities; the grinding of the military bureaucracy and how the US government mismanaged the military after WWII.

Personally, I don't see how he has a bad reputation, he was called up for WWII and Korea and did his duty.
