Dr. Kayla Smith is a strong, independent woman with several prestigious degrees in Xenobiology and Chemistry. She lives and works on the Mother Ship and shares a lab with her two best friends, Dr. Bron--a huge Beast Kindred who is also a decorated microbiologist and Dr. Sorin, a Blood Kindred and award-winning virologist. The three of them work and play together but Kayla is afraid to act on her feelings for either Kindred because she knows that picking one means losing the other.
Then comes the Great Needing.
When Xi-46, a virulent aphrodisiac, is introduced into the Kindred Mother Ship through the air vents, Kayla is one of the women affected. Her desperate need can only be slaked with the help of a male and she gets help from both of her friends. Afterwards, they expect her to choose between them...but Kayla can't--she loves them both.
Now they must go on a desperate mission to find the source of Xi-46 and try to create an antidote. But the further they go, the more Kayla realizes she needs both men in her life...and they need each other as well, though neither one wants to admit it. Can Bron and Sorin learn to share a mate? Can Kayla convince them that the three of them belong together? Or will the horrors they suffer at the house of Mother Pain tear them apart? Read Sharing a Mate to find out...
***Author's Note and There is a tiny bit of M/M action in this novel, which isn't usual for my Kindred menage books. My intentions in writing M/M in this the book wasn't to add gratuitous sex but rather to show a true three-way relationship in which all the characters love and respect each other equally. I hope you will enjoy it--there is plenty of M/F/M action too, which I think will make you happy if you like menage romance. Also, if you'd like to see the images which inspired this book, by the insanely talented artist, aenaluck, check my Inspiration for Sharing a Mate Pinterest Board. Hugs and Happy Reading! Evangeline
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Main characters: Dr. Bron & Dr. Sorin & Dr. Kayla Smith Type of Kindred: Beast and Blood (relationship status: complicated)
My God this book was full of impressive titles! Three main characters, all of them Doctors. Can really Kindred warriors get a PhD? From which university? Hahahaha We have a human girl, Kayla, with degrees in Xenobiology and Chemistry. And two Kindred: 1. Bron the microbiologist and Beast Kindred 2. Sorin the virologist and Blood Kindred
The three of them are close friends who work at the Mother Ship. The two men secretly hope that Kayla will chose one of them as a mate, while Kayla does not want to choose either of them as a mate because she does not want to separate them. And it is widely know that neither Beast not Blood Kindred share. Ever!
After the attack (with the Xi-46 the virulent aphrodisiac) at the Mother Ship that took place during the events of "Releasing The Dragon", Kayla was exposed and vulnerable. Her two best friends will help her overcome the symptoms but then Kayla will be too embarrassed to talk to them again. But since they are Mother Ship's only hope due to their impressive degrees and expertise, Kayla and her two boys will fly away in space to find a cure.
Bron, Sorin and Kayla will need to face old fears, overcome prejudice, reject their close-mind and toxic families and finally learn to share and create their family.
Definitely this book pushes the series to a new direction. So far only Twin Kindred could share. Their books were the only MFM ones in the series. Now, a new interesting combination is introduced which also touches the limits of MMF. And I am more than happy with this development. The story was highly erotic, very clever and with the usual amazing inclusion of science fiction features.
This is just ok. Storywise, all three MCs spend waaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too much time having the same inner thoughts, over and over, especially in the beginning. The story gets better towards the end, but it ends up being more disjointed than I would like. The setup for their sex scenes did crack me up, because honestly it was a big game of Just the Tip, and Oh Noes, We Can't but we HAVE to ALL have sex together.
But my BIG issue with this was the mislabeling. This isn't MFM but MMF. To be clear, I have absolutely no issues with MMF and I generally prefer to read them instead of MFM. I don't think MMF has ever been part of the Kindred series and perhaps there was concern that regular readers of the MFM angle with the Kindred might be put off by the sexual contact being enjoyed/loved between the male MCs being part of the story? I don't know, just a guess.
The story is based upon these three people loving each other equally, and ALL parties being emotionally connected/in love/having sex with each other. I love that message. The usual Kindred menage is MFM - and honestly if twin brothers (twincest) having sex with one woman at the same time doesn't squick you out, I don't see the problem with two non-blood related men enjoying sexual contact with each other. Just my two pennies.
In any event, I liked that the Kindred are branching out into MMF, I liked the message at the end, I just wish the entire story was less repetitive and more focused on the MMF journey of these characters. It would have improved it so much.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and there were parts I liked and parts I didn’t. I really liked the relationship dynamics between Sorin and Bron. They are the reason that I kept reading. I cared about both and wanted to see them work through their emotional baggage so they could admit to love and sharing a mate.
On the other hand, I didn’t really like Kayla. She was at times wishy-washy, then weak, then sort of strong, then back to weak. The only thing that I really appreciated was that she knew what she wanted from the start.
The writing and editing needed help as well. Honestly if it weren’t for Sorin and Bron, I know that I wouldn’t have finished the book. I’m not sure if I’ll read anything else by this author. That will depend on how well the characters stick with me.
Evangeline Anderson - Sharing a Mate: A Kindred Tales M/F/M Novel (Brides of the Kindred)
In the Last Kindred Tales Book the mothership had been compromised by a calf Kindred terrorist who got a chemical, Xi-46 into the vent system. The aphrodisiac chemical affects all females on the mothership and creates what becomes know as “The Great Needing”.
We meet the three main characters, a team of Doctor/scientists, Ron, Soren and Kayla. The two best friend have been in love with Kayla since the first day they met and when the aphrodisiac chemical is released, Kayla turns to her two teammates for release.
The team is sent on a mission to a strange planet where the flower use to create the chemical is grown.
Besides this challenging mission, the three can’t seem to rectify how to find a way to share Kayla. The males are not Twin Kindred. Bron, a Beast Kindred and Sorin , a Blood Kindred do not share a mate.
Although I am not a fan of M/M/F scenarios it was done with discretion, and the emphasis of the love the males shared for each other and Kayla. Their wish was that one day she would choose one of them to be her mate. Happily there were many very hot scenes and situations that were M/F/M as well as an exciting, suspenseful, adventurous, entertaining story, as well as a crazy new planet.
*Spoilers*. OMG, this is possibly my favourite book so far, I absolutely loved it, loved it, loved it. Loved the idea of having two different kindred warriors with one woman, rather than twin kindred, fantastic idea and OMG did it work. Kayla, Bron and Sorin were so wonderful together it just made my heart sing and I couldn’t put the book down, before I knew it I had completed it, with a sigh! Amazing!!!!! Wow, fantastic storyline, so original, again, but more than anything I just really loved the guys together, they were awesome. Cannot wait for the next book as they just seem to get better and better. This book was provided to me with no requirement for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion. I would definitely recommend this book.

I was looking for light fantasy escape and this fit the bill. Pretty much all sex scenes and little relationship which was what I was looking for. Brain candy! After all the warnings in the blurb - which I was thrilled about- it had the most vanilla m/m contact ever 🙂. Would some readers really be scared off by that?
3rd book of 2026 ~ Omg, I felt so behind on my Reading Challenge since I had only finished 2 books and it was already January 10th (I watched a lot of TV, the series Rome, the first few days of the year), so I wanted to finish this book today. I haven't done much else today besides reading...
I wasn't too excited to read this one because I had a feeling the angst of the two men not wanting to enter into a relationship with each other and Kayla could be tiresome, but since it followed Releasing the Dragon, I wanted to read the series in order. However, I'm glad I read this book as I ended up enjoying it a lot!
Yes, the inner dialogue of we-can't-share-her got a little repetitive in the beginning, but when the trio went to Carnal Four to find an antidote to the Great Needing, a virus that made all the fertile women of the Mother Ship crazy with lust, the book became a lot more exciting & interesting.
I found it amusing how the terrorist, Zar'ren, sucked at being a terrorist. Instead of infecting the Mother Ship with a substance that would actually kill people, he chose a substance that just made the women horny... I get that EA came up with the Great Needing to bond more people together, but if this was real life and not a series written by a romance author, Zar'ren would be a pretty pathetic terrorist. He succeeded in creating more couples & already preexisting couples having sex, thus leading to more Kindred babies... For someone who hates the Kindred, that doesn't make so much sense.
This is a love story between a human female, Blood Kindred, and Beast Kindred instead of a woman and Twin Kindred, so the Kindred males realize their love for each other as well. Thus, the book is MMF, not MFM in the case of the Twin Kindred.
Evangeline Anderson continues to build an awesome storyline that no one can duplicate. Her world is so special that it gives me so much pleasure to visit. Her characters are passionate and full of life as they share their world's with us. Great read and oh so passionate.⚘⚘⚘
Very nicely done some how expressing each member of the pods feelings and how hard it is to get around our pre conceived thoughts about doing something new and different. While having fun in the story.
I think I liked this one more than most because it was so very different from the usual Kindred novel. A nice M/M/F story that I did enjoy. While this series is more erotica than romance, and if you keep that in mind during the read, you'll enjoy it.
A different relationship for the Kindred world. I think our author did a good job of presenting another type of relationship. Normally I would have skipped this story but I've been invested in the series from the beginning and love to see how the Mother Ship's community grows.
This was a really good book. I just wish that they weren’t so whiny and indecisive. Otherwise I love this author and her books and I can’t wait to read the next one.
This Kindred Tale is a M/F/M romance which was interesting and different, but not one I need to read again. It was sweet to see the three of them together and their true affection for each other, but it got repetitious reading everything that happened from three view points. The book was good for continuing the Kindred storyline and showing how the Mother Ship was able to get through the Great Needing and the events it caused. The storyline could've been sped up a little as I felt it dragged in a few spots and didn't hold my interest like many of the other stories in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Love, love, love this story. Sometimes we lef to get out of our own way and let love have its way. Bravo.... great story telling I was pulled in from the first paragraph.
Three best friends and coworkers. Add in one virus and things get hot fast. Friends become so much more. But can the two Kindreds share a female? That is the base of the story and how they try to find a cure for themselves and those on the mothership. Relationships are looked at closer and painful pasts are told. Expect a lot of hotness in this one as it gets beyond steamy.
This story of three scientist working together on a Mother Ship and suddenly their human female needs them sexually. Two males having been raised within societies of strict ideas on what is correct concerning a threesome. This story was steamy and sexy with a hot finish. Would recommend this author if you like SciFi stories with a good script and an interesting head for details.
Holy crap this is hot. The imagination and description of the people/species and other worlds are fascinating and easy to visualize. Kayla, Bron, and Sorin's relationship was so believable and honest, it was very easy to accept. I truly enjoyed how it all came together, the story and the mating, little by little piece by piece. I have found a new author to follow.
A like to give big kudos to the author for being on point with your description of a black female. Thank you for not giving Kayla "rosy cheeks and dark skin" as a descriptor!!
This book was like a non-stop sex train and I wanted to get off. It had potential but there wasn't really a major plot point in sight, just repetitive inner monologues and "we must touch, but not too much touching" going on. I was less than thrilled with this.
A rollercoaster read with two Kindred and a human female…. This was s terrific read filled with sexy kindred characters and a human female with Evangeline’s usual writing skill it is filled with wonderful characters and an unexpected circumstance. Dr Kayla is based on the mothership alongside her two Doctor companions who are also kindred, one Beast and the other Blood kindred. Them on the day the ship is under attack a introduction of XI-46 a sexual aphrodisiac via the air intake and it effected the females alarmingly. Dr Sorin a blood kindred and Dr Bron a Beast kindred have to see to her needs, she soon realises that she is in fact in love with her two dearest friends and couldn’t possibly choose one over the other. Their mission is then to discover a antidote to XI-46 however they must have a sample of the actual strain to develop it, this is a dangerous undertaking and it is also vitally important and Kayla knows that she could not live without these two perfect kindred, however will they or won’t they be able to share it is not a normal match a Beast and Blood kindred. Once again this was a wonderful story the characters were amazing and the battle to find an antidote was both dangerous and also essential, it was a weapon that was easily used against them and because it was carried in the air it was virtually unstoppable. The three knew they had to succeed….. Kelly knew that she loved both Bron and Sorin equally they each fulfilled a specific need and each held half of her heart but could they share?...... I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
I would really like to give more than three stars, but the beginning of the book was very repetitive. The three of them kept either thinking or saying the exact same thing over and over for pages. It was starting to become monotonous but things really took off when they went on their quest.
For any reader I would say hang in there it will definitely get better as the story develops. There is definitely man on man action which is not something I like, but it wasn’t over the top. It was the ending that really sold me or rather it was the incident that became the deciding factor to their union that really sold me on this story. I am looking forward to reading other ladies unconventionally affected by the attack on the mother ship.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going in to this one. I knew I’d have no issues with anything of a sexual nature, but I was unsure of the dynamics of two different breeds of Kindred with the same mate, or how the Kindred would be with each other. There hasn’t been any gay Kindred, yet, so I had nothing to go by. It was awesome. I loved just about everything in this story.
My only issue was the continuous use of “friend of the heart”. In every other reference like that it has been best friends with zero sexual feelings involved. So that got a bit confusing when things went beyond just friendly between the Kindred yet they still used that term for each other, up until right before the very end.
Everything else about this story was absolute perfection!
Wow,wot a beautifully written book..I loved. It from the start.. Poor old Kayla as she went through the war with the two kindred men. But love won!!! Evangeline you are one amazing Author well done xx
Kayla is THE SMARTEST GOOD GIRL we ever saw in this series, EVER. Not because she has a phd or because her gimmick is "scientist", but because
... WHEN A KINDRED WIFE OFFERS HER SOME CONCENTRATED SEX POTION SHE DOESN'T TAKE IT.
(applause)
Thank you, Kayla! Thank you for proving that, inspite of contrary evidence in the last gazillion Kindred books, just because there is a forbidden fruit you should not immediately pounce on it.
Also, our smart girl realised quite early on that she wanted a bond with both her colleagues, not just one. She also never budged on her convictions.
(Applause)
Thank you, Kayla, for proving that despite evidence to the contrary in the last gazillion Kindred books, the "luscious earth female" CAN in fact, make up her fucking mind.
Bron and Soren were good bois too. I was so sad to see their backstories I cried a little because unlike certain other sob stories in the series (I have a LISP woe is me :'(!), theirs was super sad, yet never drawn out, convoluted or dissected to pieces.
I liked the dynamic I liked the characters, book was good!
One thing though, if maybe, you are reading this Evangeline: I love your books but please, Liv and Kat and sometimes Sophia are not the only people who could make a cameo appearance in these books.
Dr. Kayla Smith shares the lab on the Mother Ship with her two best friends; Dr. Bron – a beast Kindred and Dr. Sorin a blood Kindred. When the Mothership is attacked with Xi-46 Kayla needs the assistance of both her colleagues. If they were Twin Kindred it would be perfect but both Beast and Blood Kindred will not share a mate.
I greatly enjoy these Kindred stories – this one over-emphasized the resistance of the males to not share.
Touching, Intriguing and great backstory on each character.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
If you’re not expecting male on male action you’re prolly not going to like this book.
Even though I have nothing against homosexual romance, I prefer more heterosexual content in my books. The former just doesn’t appeal to me. This book contained way more than I was comfortable reading and therefore I didn’t enjoy it.
That being said, if you like reading homosexual romance, then you would probably like this book.
Repetitive POVs and inner monologues. Very slow and confusing. It felt a bit like soup that has so much stuffed into it that it's barely soup anymore. So many ideas just mushed into a story made it very convoluted to read and enjoy.
