Curtain Call

Rate this book
What’s the best way to get over a hard breakup? Directing a low-budget high school musical, of course!

At least, that’s where lovable drama teacher Jeff Martin’s mind goes. Jeff has a heart of gold, a looming internet scandal on the horizon, and a horde of talented teenagers at his command, but none of that seems quite as important as his monumentally bad track record with guys. At this rate, it seems like Jeff is destined to die alone, without even a pet to keep him company.

That is, until Luke Davis comes around. Kind, sexy, and full of enthusiasm, Luke is just the kind of southern gentleman Luke is looking for. There’s just one problem; Luke’s son, who also happens to be one of Jeff’s students, doesn’t know that his dad is bi, and Luke intends on keeping it that way. The two men try their best to make the relationship work anyway, but secrets have a way of getting out—especially when social media is involved—and it doesn’t take long before Jeff becomes an accidental gay icon.

Can Jeff and Luke’s love survive in the face of all this public scrutiny and teen angst, or will Jeff go back to being #ForeverAlone?

Please This book contains adult language & steamy adult activities, it is intended for 18+ Adults Only. Novel, approx. 60,000 words in length. HEA (happy ever after ending). **** Cute yet serious, different and educating, plus super romantic !
We may begin with a sadness, but the pace and excitement aren't far behind. Months later now,
dedicated English teacher, Jeff, 35,

with curly hair and brown eyes, is well respected and did everything he could to get his students the stuff they needed. This time, the lack of budget causes him to go out on a limb to produce a musical. Student, Cameron/Cam, 17, needs tutoring to pass classes and he also wants to be in the show.
Tutoring Cam is how Jeff meets Luke, @45,

a good looking hazel eyed blonde, aircraft mechanic, who is Cam's Dad.
They liked each other and were comfortable right away, and began dating and had sizzling sexy times. The problem? Luke is a student's Dad, and not out as bisexual to his son, yet.
The men go to a wedding of a former student of Jeff's, and when the pics hit social media, all hell breaks loose.

I loved the variety of cool kids, and I loved the MCs. Each man is terrific and they fit together so well, but the backlash is rough. They each go through a tailspin.

This full-bodied tale and flows well. We are rooting for them to be happy again. I can't tell you everything, because you need to "feel" this story for yourself.

I highly recommend this ! ENJOY !

I love all the characters in this book; well maybe I disliked Jeff Martin’s ex. Jeff’s a fantastic English teacher and head of the drama club at the high school where he works. The man knows how to relate to his students both as a teacher and as a person. But he definitely has a hard time keeping a boyfriend and that’s probably due to his trusting, caring personality. When he loves someone or something, he put his whole heart and passion into them or “it”.

Jeff wants his students to have the best musical that can be put on plus it’s the first one in many years. The lead singer was the hardest to fill until a handsome, shy young senior named Cameron Davis showed up to be the perfect lead. Not only could he sing but his acting was great too. The problem was Cam’s grades were failing and he couldn’t join until his grades showed improvement.

What was Jeff to do to have this perfect lead actor/singer in the musical? Why he tutored the young man himself at Cam’s house on the weekends. Cam’s father, Luke shows up before Jeff could leave and was invited to dinner and there was an instant attraction. Jeff didn’t know Luke was bisexual so he thought he’d never get the chance to date the man. But Luke‘s a beautiful, loving person who knows he wants Jeff.

Well, Max Hudson wrote the most adorable beginning of their relationship and the book only got better. Jeff was the most awkward and it just made him more adorable. The two were only in the beginning stages of their relationship when a photo of Jeff and Luke was taken kissing at a wedding Jeff attended. The big surprise was that it got posted on Facebook. That’s when everything blew up in Jeff’s life.

The biggest mistake the school board made was discrimination against Jeff being gay. The board put Jeff on leave and was refused to be on campus even for the musical. Not only did it affect his career, but he was sure it damaged the relationship he had with Luke.

Jeff wasn’t a fighter but his sister was, being a lawyer, and she fights for her brother. I loved the twist in the story. I had a hard time putting the book down as I cheered Jeff on with hope his relationship and career weren’t damaged.

I really loved the book. There’s politics, fun loving young adults, love and acceptance and fresh starts. Yeah, I’d recommend this book to anyone. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced read copy of this book.

Directing a musical is not an easy thing. Directing a musical for high school students is difficult...Jeff Martin is an awesome drama teacher. The kids love him. The kids want to do a musical, but musicals are expensive. Jeff spends his own money and buys the rights to a grad student's musical. He has some awesome students...and then he finds Cameron Davis. Cameron is new and is failing a lot of classes. Jeff volunteers to tutor Cameron if he will be in the musical. Jeff tutors Cameron at his house and falls hard for Cameron's dad. But can a relationship stand the strain with being Cameron's teacher?
I loved this story because I was an involuntary director of a high school musical and know how difficult it is. The characters are well drawn and I think I knew a teacher like Jeff when I was teaching. I liked how the ethics of being a teacher gets tossed in with the desire to get to know Cameron's father.
The relationship between Jeff and Luke is a roller coaster...one minute you are so happy and the next you're in tears. I felt a special tug because I was a teacher and know the problems teachers run into relating to parents of their students.
This was a quick read...get your hankies out...you're gonna need them.
I was given this book and have given a sincere and honest review.

Jeff is bitter after catching his boyfriend cheating on him. Luke is a bisexual man whose wife has died and he has never told his teenage son he likes men. Jeff and Luke meet and that is the end for both of them. Impossible attracted to each other, they go on a journey that ultimately takes them to a wedding, internet exposure and a very angry and manipulative teenage boy. How to fix this? Good question. Reading the book will give you all the answers as I did. An excellent book that keeps the reader interested and as you read the struggles these two men must go through to get to their HEA. Real

The book was real...for lack of better word. Situation of a giving, caring teacher mirrors teachers, I know in my life. The older male growing into his skin is true to form with men I've gotten to know over the years. Assumptions and poor communications are other real issues in men's beginning relationships.
The 'gay is bad' knee jerk reaction to a picture, sadly is still real in everyday life.

Loved it!

This was a fabulous book. I cried reading chapter 18. It was sad that they were kept apart simply because of communication problems when they could have supporting each other all along but so happy when they were talking again and Jeff and Luke and even his students got the happy ending they deserved.

I found that this was a decent read. I loved the variety of characters and the dialogue. It was full of decently written scenes and a lot of romance. The main characters held a lot of passion on the pages.

It was so fluffy and romantic which is usually not my thing but i liked it. The author managed to make a simple and not very original story with no much action into something really enjoyable. I did skip wedding scenes tbh cause i cannot do that much fluff but other than that it loved it.

Max Hudson’s romantic gay novel, “Curtain Call” is an entertaining and realistic depiction of “Jeff” who is a drama teacher, working with a group of teenagers. The story is set in a high school, and deals with the plans for staging a play, involving dialogue, singing and dance – a possible recipe for disaster.

A disaster of sorts begins this story, of a broken trust; but there is finally a renewed hope in life, from a myriad of perspectives.

As the tale unfolds, we are witness to some wonderful reactions of the students, placed in a new and possibly threatening scenario of being on stage, with the accompanying tensions one would expect prior to any theatrical opening night, school or professional!

By means of Hudson and his typically brilliant writing style, his two principal characters, Jeff and a newly met guy “Luke”, contacted through the school Jeff teaches at, are expertly described and depicted, in both of their very different roles in life.

This is a charming and moving tale of down-to-earth living and love, with all its complexities and its joyful moments. A true reader’s delight, if one’s in need of being refreshed mentally!
