Thanksgiving is upon Sandy Harbor Maine, and so is murder. When philanthropist Todd Spellman is murdered at the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, Allie McSwain and Detective Alec Blanchard must find the killer before they become the next victims.
It is a 3rd book in A Freshly Baked Cozy Mystery serie. It is Thanksgiving and Allie and Alec are participating in the Turkey Trot. But one man was shot dead during the run. Who is the culprit? This is one of my favourite series. It is nice easy read and is well written. There is nice atmosphere. Looking forward to reading next book in the serie.
Catching up on reviews. Didn’t realize kindle wasn’t marking these completed.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
"Thankfully Dead (Cozy Baked Mystery #3)" by Kate Bell/Kathleen Suzette has a bit of Thanksgiving for the first couple chapters then moves on to the mystery. Just a heads up, it does involve a shooting at a public event (A Turkey Trot Run). Some may find that hard to read, though it's only descriptions are of the sound and the murder victim getting hit.
The mystery solving got a little frustrating at parts. The main character was a bit oblivious to her rudeness at time, actively wondering why people were being rude back to her when she wasn't getting it that she overstayed her welcome. Other times blatantly telling her cop boyfriend she'd was going to ignore his request to stay out of things. She pretty much annoyed the killer into coming after her. Who, turned out to be exactly who I thought it would be.
If you're looking for a quick, Thanksgiving cozy mystery, this book will do for that. Maybe not a series I personally will read very quickly.
What a great read! Allie and Alec are participating in the turkey trot when they hear gunshots. One of the locals was murdered and it’s up to Allie and Alex to figure out who did it and why. The town people knew a different side of the person murdered and it is slowing coming out to all. Join Allie and Alec as they investigate the endeavor.
The characters are highly developed, descriptions of the town are fantastic, and a strong sense of community can be felt reading this story. The story contains fun and quirky characters and also filled with mystery. Look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I have not read anything by this author before but certainly will read more. This story caught my attention from the first page and I loved the characters. I could not put the book down and so I read it fairly quickly. I love mystery looks with a holiday theme and this one fit the bill. Excellent pace to the solving of the murder, never a dull moment which is something I really like. I get bored with those mysteries that seem to be drug out too long and are somewhat repetitive regarding the same clues. This was definitely not one of those. I like the New England setting of Maine. Highly recommended for a cozy mystery read!
20 stars!!!! Talk about a mass of suspects!! Alec had his hands full with this mystery, Allie got in some messes also. Then she started getting Lucy involved and a bigger mess was made. How one person can cause so much damage to so many people, and the all had motives. Cause the more Alec dug for answers the more mess he found. And his boss Sam Bailey didn't help matters either. You won't be able to put this book down. I lost a lot of sleep reading this book. I really like this author. Check out this series.
I have read many cozy mysteries with various themes and holidays, and I have to say that this one felt different in a good way. The location of the crime scene was unique but related to the Thanksgiving holiday plus it added quite the adrenaline rush in the beginning. It set the tone for the rest of it. It was solid for the rest of it. It kept me very invested and entertained.
I really enjoyed this book. It does annoy me when the lead characters do really stupid things and you just know something is going to happen All in all it held my attention
Thankfully Dead: A Freshly Baked Cozy Mystery, book 3
This was a very good book how ever I do wish that the author had done more to make it more interesting. I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
A man is murdered the Turkey Trot and revelations abound. Who was he really? Different neighbors had different opinions and there were as many motives as opinions. Well written fun read.
Third book in A Freshly Baked Cozy Mystery. In this one we see more involvement between the FMC and the MMC as they are officially together. Enjoyed the mystery, kept me invested throughout the whole story.
This is book #3 in the series, and I think it’ll be my last. I can’t really stand the main character, she’s very annoying to me. The story itself wasn’t bad though fun little read.
Of course, I always enjoy these books. This was one of the first ones where I was pretty confident that I had an idea about who had committed the murder. As it turns out, I wasn't entirely right, but I wasn't entirely wrong about how some of the pieces tied together. That's all I'll say, because I don't want to spoil things.
As always, I recommend all the books in this series!
Even the nicest-seeming people can end up being pretty rotten, but Allie sure never knew that about the guy until someone killed him at the annual Turkey Trot 5K. After she and Alec got shot at a couple times, she was more determined than ever to find out who did this.
I enjoyed meeting all Allie's family now that both her kids were home for Thanksgiving and Thad had a girlfriend with him. She seemed a little odd for them but was really nice and got along well with Jennifer. I have a feeling Allie was getting a little momma bear thinking about her oldest kid getting serious about someone. I'm sure Sarah might be around in the next book, so maybe I'll warm up to her more.
I loved the ending and how Allie found out who was behind all this craziness. Luckily Alec was along and able to take control of the perp at the showdown. On to the next book!

This is the first time that Allie is present for the murder and we don't have to hear about how bad she would look in an orange jumpsuit. I think it was mentioned a handful of times in the first and second book. Really though, how much bad luck can one one have in a small town? She stumbled upon two dead bodies and now is being shot at. It took awhile to build suspicions as to who actually had done it and I didn't expect who the killer/killers could be. It was a pleasant surprise.
