THE PERFECT GIFT FOR MOTHER'S DAYSpring Comes to Emmerdale is a must for fans of ITV's Emmerdale, and readers who love heartwarming and heartbreaking stories set during wartime, alike.'Enthralling. Spring Comes to Emmerdale is beautifully written and researched' - Lancashire Evening PostWorld War I wages on, and the families of Emmerdale are trying their best to move on from tragedy, while the effects of war still resonate throughout the village of Beckindale. Though grief and loss permeate, Maggie Sugden, Rose Haywood and the other inhabitants of the village are finding independence, the chance to make their own happiness - and even opening themselves up to find love. Featuring firm fan favourites like the Dingles, The Woolpack Pub and Emmerdale Farm itself, this will be a delight for any Emmerdale fan.Following on from the first in the series, Christmas At Emmerdale, the second novel picks up where the first left-off, exploring the lives of Emmerdale's much-loved families during the Great War and beyond, and how the nation's favourite village copes with the loves and lives lost.
The First World War comes to an end in this second Emmerdale novel. The book is unflinching at its description of the effects of war (as detailed by Joe Sugden's injuries) and successfully juggles three storylines across the book. It covers a three year period (and despite the title is only set at Spring three times in the book!) and appears to be the last one set in this time period. I wish the characters and timeline had been spread out across more books, I think these would have benefited from more page time. Hopefully book three (set during WW2 will pick up on some of the characters in later life).
In the post war days the villagers of Emmerdale are trying their best to move forward. Characters from the first novel are all caught up with and so,whew faces arrive too. Dot Colton is home from Bradford and vows with help from Jonah Dingle to reopen the burnt out Woolpack, Maggie is dealing with looking after her brutal invalid husband while secretly carrying a love child and Rose is still keeping her affair with Mick Dingle secret while the devious Levi does his best to wreck their relationship. It's all go in Emmerdale but Spring brings with it new hope, life and loves. Full of drama, excitement and scandal this is a great period version spin off to the soap.
Summer 1918, dot colton arrives back to beckindale she been working as a munitionette in Bradford, shes had word that her father is ill, but she doesn't intend to stay long and no way does she want to work at emmerdale farm, for all there is a war on. But it doesn't work out that way for her. The Woolpack is a shell after fire damage three year's ago and with the help of Jonah Dingle she is determined to do it up and take over the tenancy this village needs to come alive again. I really enjoyed this book of the early year's of one of my favourite soaps. lovely story.
A story of life after war. The heart grief and reluctance to accept change. Dot Colton having returned from Bradford and working in a munitions factory can’t wait to leave again. But after striking up new friendships and meeting a charming man with his help she realises that Beckindale is where she truly belongs. A wonderful nostalgic story. Told beautifully, in a gorgeous setting and with lovely characters.
Another book of the background to the tv show and as enjoyable as the first. It has it's sad moments as do all stories set in this time of history but despite all that, people just kept going and helped each other out which sadly is rare nowadays. I hope that this isn't the last book in the series.

Another great book in the Emmerdale series. Again it is inspired by true accounts, diaries and letters of men and women from Yorkshire who were about when the book was set. I, like another reviewer below, was disappointed by the poor proof reading.
I enjoyed reading this book because it was entertaining and believable. I liked reading about the ancestors of the Dingles and other Beckindale families. The characters leapt off the pages and became people who were vibrant and convincing. A very good read.
Fantastic book I highly recommend this book it kept me interested from start to finish.was disappointed when it ended .can't wait to read follow on book.
Fantastic read really enjoyed it. reminded me of Emmerdale when it first started before they ruined it with all the murders and kidnappings cant wait for the next one to come out.
