The secret to winning at life is one good choice at a time.
Are you frustrated with your job, career, or relationships? Are you unsure if what you are doing right now in your life is the right thing? In this revolutionary new book, success and motivation expert Tom Ziglar shares the good news that you can change and that, in fact, you can win at life.
Choose to Win shows you how to achieve massive change without massive upset. It all starts with identifying your why, which reveals the how that opens multiple doors of what. His revolutionary plan guides you through making one small choice at a time through a sequence of easy-to-follow steps in seven key mental, spiritual, physical, family, finance, personal, and career. Ziglar also helps you identify the life-killing, unhealthy habits that cause misery, dissatisfaction, and lack of success—and, more importantly, how to implement positive habits through the trinity of desire, hope, and grit. The result is a more productive, more fulfilling, and more meaningful life.
You can take control of your destiny and leave the lasting legacy you've dreamed about and deserve. You simply need to choose to do so.
The subtitle says it all: Transform your life one simple choice at a time. The author will guide you with one choice at a time and help you improve your life. Of course, in the end, it all depends on us following thru with the advice, but we need good and helpful advice to follow in order to have good results too, and this book has plenty of helpful insights.
The content is very easy to read and follow. Broken down into pieces, so you can take small action and not fall overwhelmed.
So simple, but so brilliant. "Choose to win" is more than a self-help book, more than a business book, is a "chose wisely" book.
The 3 sections of this book are divided as follows: Section 1 - It starts with why: What is your why? What is your plan? Goals Desires, hope, and grit. Section 2 - The 7 choices plan: Mental Spiritual Physical Family Financial Personal Career Section 3 - When do I start? The perfect start Choose to live a life of purpose.
Besides all the advice and insights, this book main message is that our choices are what makes our past, present, and future. This book can help you make good choices, be a guide to adopt good habits and provide motivation to become your best self.
I never want to give a self-help or motivational book too low a review, since it may click with someone who really needs it. even if that person wasn't me. That said, this one wasn't my favorite. First of all, 4-6 pages of blurbs in the front of a book are often an indicator of a not-so-great book. Then the author goes into talking about his loving, supportive parents, including his famous motivational speaker father. That's great for him, but can someone born into such good circumstances really be qualified to tell people who weren't how to "choose to win"? Aha, Tom Ziglar already has an answer for you: that's defeatist thinking to think you have it worse than him or anyone else. So what's the solution? Habits. Break the bad ones, start some better ones, and you're on your way.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital ARC!
Tom Ziglar is an amazing man and what else do you expect from the son of the amazing Zig Ziglar. I have never felt so close to the author of a book. Thank you so much for your message of encouragement, hope, and faith.
Great book about attitude, determination, and decisions. I found many helpful thoughts in this book! Below are some of my personal takeaways from the book:
Everyone needs a clearly defined “why.”
Its important you clarify your “why” (why are doing it), and when you do it opens doors to your “what” (what you do) and transform your “how” (how you do everything).
Hope is born when you realize you have the power to make things better or worse.
See your past as the reason to move forward and not the reason to quit.
The time you are in the furnace is preparing you for significance.
Attitude is a reflection of character, and character is a reflection of habit.
The opposite of entitlement is gratitude.
Your past is important, but not as important as you see your future.
A habit is simply a small choice you’ve chosen to do over and over
When your “why” is big enough, the sacrifice is worth it.
Living to win is a choice. What choices are you going to make that will transform you?
The fastest way to change bad habits is to begin doing good habits.
Persistent consistency is the answer to improvement in almost any area of your life
Become an intentional noticer. Pay attention to the positive details, and let others know.
The words we say to our children today will be the constant whispers they hear in the future.
It is not negative to identify problems. It is only negative if all you do is dwell on the problems.
Do not be afraid of being uncomfortable. In fact, a good leader learns to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Clarity helps you make the right choices and take the right actions.
You can determine beforehand that you will respond positively to setbacks that come your way.
If you do more than you are paid to do, eventually you will get paid more for what you do. — Zig Ziglar
Doing a job well is a combination of attitude, effort, and skill.
Attitudes either bring energy or deplete energy.
Effort is hustle with smarts.
Words of encouragement never get old.
A great attitude drives effort and skill.
Decide that today is the day you will take control of your most valuable asset, which is your attitude.
One thing is certain, if you never take the first step, then you will never take the second step.
Change begins with you, but it does not start until you start.
Having read and listened to Zig Ziglar in different formats, I had expectations for this book from his son Tom.
Some solid, universal ideas about taking small steps consistently and focusing on removing negative influences and behaviours to improve your situation and life.
The book is a bit long winded and not as focused as I had hoped, given that it builds on Zig Ziglars ground work and way of thinking.
Though not a book about faith or religion, the references and cop-outs on "focus on what you can do something about and leave everything else up to god" was a bit too much for my taste, so that is minus 0ne star.
I also take off a star for the non-proven "truth" that it takes 66 days to establish a habit. Though it may not be as wrong as the 21 days-myth, it is equally as misunderstood and wrong.
Also; it is hard to take all the morally rightous words seriously, when the author reveals how much work him and his father has done for MLM-organisations.
There is only one aspect of this book that is different from many other self-help/motivational publications, and that is the regular inclusion of Christian religious references. If you are a person that follows that type of beacon, then this is the book for you. However, if you do not adhere to that specific metaphysical hypothesis, then the references are a tiring distraction. Adopting good habits and dropping the bad habits is of course good advice, but it is very well used and hardly unique. I have read other books by the author’s father Zig Ziglar and they just seem to have more pop and pep than this one does. It reached the point where it became predictable and a bit tedious to read. If you are in a place where there is a need for some self-help pep in your life, my suggestion is that you read one of Zig Ziglar’s books rather than this one.
Tom Ziglar carries on the tradition of his father in offering light to winning in life. He takes his time to intentionally walk with the reader and peel back layers of truth to living life well and your best life. It is anchored in that to be successful, happy and to truly live your best life- one must make the choice to replace a bad habit with a good one. Reflecting on his fathers teachings he gives practical and applicable lessons to cultivate a good life in areas from your mind to your family to your career. Great resource for me and I will putting all I have learned into practice starting with how I start my days!
I enjoyed the message this book was conveying but I did not enjoy the delivery at first. Tom Ziglar made a lot of references to his father in the beginning, almost as though boasting at all his opportunities as the son of a great motivator. Once I got used to his way of delivering the message, I was able to absorb the message better. I learned some things about goal setting and how to replace bad habits with good ones. 3.5 stars. For those that are not religious, there is a decent amount of religion in the book.
Thank you to NetGalley for the book in exchange for an honest review.
If you are a fan of Zig Ziglar your will find much of his influence and ideas in this book by his son. The concepts, quotes, and message are filled with Zig but there are some interesting insight from Tom and are very good. I like the end of the chapters where there is clear guidance on application. The first time through was an overview but the second time through will be putting the ideas into action. If you need a little structure as you look to set your New Year’s goals, this is a good book to provide a framework.
This book offers a refreshing take on succeeding in business, improving health, and strengthening family bonds. It goes beyond typical advice, showing how these areas are all connected for a truly fulfilling life. The author uses clear, engaging stories to explain complex ideas, making them easy to understand and apply. You'll find practical steps for professional growth, personal well-being, and building stronger relationships. This isn't just a book to read; it's a guide to a better, more balanced life. It will inspire you to redefine success and find joy in all parts of your journey.
Although there were some good reminders in this book, it felt more like a book that was a tribute to his Dad (even sometimes a sales pitch for hos Dad's products) than a professional development book. I felt much of the book repetitive and seemed like he was just trying to fill the chaoters.
If you are completely new to self-development or professional development books, this may be helpful...but otherwise stick with Zig Ziglar books.
Choose to Win by Tom Ziglar helps to break down how to achieve your goals and plan how to put them in place. Using his 3 step approach and his 7 point plan, help to set out goals and any problems which come your way as you follow them. This is easy to read and well structured and is highly recommended.
This book was provided by NetGalley for an honest review
I enjoyed this book at the start, during the middle I lost interest a bit as it was things I was already doing or had heard before. However the ending brought me back to loving it. The goal setting especially. I have never heard of goal setting done like this and am keen to try. I think there are some really great tips in this book. It will be one I probably reread down the track.
The main concept through out this book is very simple. You can choose to win by replacing one bad habit with one good habit everyday, one small step at a time.
Going in to details, it shows how to apply this concept in several different aspects of your life. I tried some of the tips and did see an recognizable increase in energy and productivity in days.
Great reflection points throughout the text that prompted me to reevaluate my purpose. Very applicable to every area of your life and ultimately realizing that winning is your choice.
Good, basic and practical. So aligned with Christian values. Irregular consistency with the style among chapters. But easy read and an enjoyable audiobook.
I appreciated the personal anecdotes with his dad, the great Zig Ziglar.
Tom Ziglar gives his readers step by step directions on how to transform and take responsibility for their lives. I've walked away from reading this book empowered to set goals for each of the 7 areas of my life, and take action everyday to see them come to pass.
Honest and in-depth advice for reaching your full potential. This advice is presented in easy to follow language that can be broken up and applied in pieces at a time.
I love the two questions from this book synopsis: “Are you frustrated with your job, career, or relationships? Are you unsure if what you are doing right now in your life is the right thing?” This is a book about our choices, and I saw a lot of similarities between this book and James Clear’s Atomic Habits.
This is also a book about being intentional and how we can stop accepting a status quo life through better decisions to take small and persistent steps. I was a little skeptical that this book would be a watered down version of the author’s father, but Tom Ziglar has found his own calling and is a worthy teacher of his own right.
I love the message, hate the delivery. Choose To Win focuses on goal setting, being intentional, and leaving a legacy. Unfortunately, the book is filled with fluff, exaggerated examples, up-selling & cross-promotion. Tom is a self-help guru by osmosis. He recycles his father's advice and quotes newer books as well. Because he tries to have a broad approach, the book lacks a specific focus and becomes repetitive within the various topics. The same advice is given when talking about mental, physical, financial, and so on. To get anything out of this book, take your time when reading and keep a journal handy. But my advice, get a different book.
