The characters in this book were just irritating. Here's Link, a hunky bartender at night and this renowned romance writer by day. Yeah, I get that he's tall, dark, and handsome, but he's also vain and a bit conceited. And what's with the fake glasses? I really didn't like him, but I liked the story he was writing about Gabriel and Jocelyn. I loved the idea that he was a male romance writer. In real life, we need more of them.
Annie. Oh my word, I wanted to shake her. She was so wishy-washy. She would say one thing and do something completely opposite. Her boss was sexually harassing her for THREE YEARS and she did nothing. NOTHING! She just kept showing up to work every day, let him blame her for everything, and did nothing to defend herself. For three freaking YEARS! Who does that? Maybe fifty years ago, she would've had to put up with it, but not now.
I hated the way she dragged Lincoln around and I hated the way he got so engrossed in her in just a week. This all happened in the course of one week. It seemed like it was much longer, but the story said they'd known each other for just a week. That's a lot of activity for such a short time.
And Annie giggles. I. Hate. Giggling. It's what children do; not grown women who are so put upon by a bad boss and want no relationships with any men because they're so caught up in themselves that they think they aren't girlfriend material. Whatever.
To add to my misery, there's a cliffhanger that we are not warned about. I loathe cliffhangers and would've passed on this book had I known. Why not just wrap up this story and make the next book about the secondary characters, Kenny or Eileen or Kenny and Eileen?
Considering this book was a freebie, I guess I can't complain too much. I was blindsided by the cliffhanger and that set me off, but if you don't mind that and you like unpredictable characters, this book is right up your alley.
This book is also like the Over Easy novel; halted for a few months... - WELL: it felt like I've stopped reading for a few months. But I picked it up right away. The sex wasn't the main point of the book; but about two people who are drawn to each other. One in denial; and the other can't go on to his day-to-day life without thinking about her.
But what was the difference between a 3 star and a 4 star, is that the couple's story doesn't end in the first book; you gotta get the second book to continue the story. So it felt abruptly stopped. At least, I understand Annie's pain of work; and how after resolving her pain from work, she didn't know what she wanted to do; her career path halted. And she's 30! It gives me a sense of security, because it's not like at any age, there's a state of mind that I should follow. For example: (which is not related to the book anymore): At 10, you should at least have one friend, at 20, you should at least know what you want? and do adventures! at 30: settle down; 40: children should be 20ish....
There's just so many standards and ideals out there, that I feel a bit unforgivable if I don't meet those standards.
A heroine who annoyed me I liked the story, it's pretty well written, but as much as I loved the character of Lincoln who opens himself and dares a job that maybe few men would dare (romance writer), as much the heroine Annie, annoyed me. During a good part of the story she doubts herself, gets hurt by her boss and when finally she meets Lincoln who supports her, helps her, she tries to push him back while he is the only one who supports her continuously. (as well as her best friend). Annie thinks she does not deserve him and he thinks he does not deserve her ... Like that, they will not go far. An interesting point is that the author also tells the story that his author is writing: we have 2 books in 1. The story stops on a cliffhanger ... .and that, I'll never used to standing it. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
ONE INTERESTING ADVENTURE!!! Oh man, talk about not sure of the words. This is definitely a different take with a tried and true genre. With all the twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner you're hooked from the start. You have a whirlwind of emotions and events that really pulls this little guy together beautifully. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really brings out the depth and intrigue that holds your attention until the last word. Lexy did a remarkable job bringing this read to life. Fantastic job Lexy, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Welcome back Lexy Timms (after that bomb of Just Me). I can handle this couple, never mind Annie infuriates me with her vacillating. You either want the man or not..And if he is so good, on so many levels, what is the issue? Plus no woman, doesn't matter how bad she wants to keep a job, would tolerate a manager speaking to her in that manner, especially one with a business degree. And that right there are my hang-ups with this novel. It's not believable that thirty year old women behave this way in the real world. For me that is a gaping plot hole. But the Lexy Timms pace is back and Link is the perfect foil for this whimpy woman.
Received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review....... When you finish the first part of a series scratching your head, that isn't always a good sign. I liked Lincoln and Annie, they were well written, intriguing characters you really want to know better. I am curious as to how this book continues. I agree with the other reviewer that felt including too much of Lincoln's current book was distracting. I felt it broke the "rhythm of the read". I am curious enough to read book 2, but I hope the flow is less interrupted.
Lexy Timms is an amazing writer. She is prolific and multi-layered. She was masterful with the plot of this book.A book within a book! WHOA!!!! I will read books 2&3, but l have some real issues with.: Her editing and her grammar are equally abysmal. Putting ness at the end of a word doesn't make it a real word.(for example, cruelty, not cruelness) Also, this heroine should be named Beulah to go with her bull-headed insanity. Better heroines please!!
I really enjoyed this book, but I felt the ending was a little abrupt and left me hanging. Link is a really decent guy. He's hot, too. Surprisingly, he is a romance writer, but her keeps this secret very well hidden. From the moment he sees Annie be knows he is interested. Annie, in the other hand, isn't interested in a relationship, a commitment, or even dating. Personally I think she's a little neurotic. So what will happen? See if you can guess. I enjoyed it.
Boy was I upset with the ending in this book! Wham, they just left ya hanging. I cannot stand a cliffhanger and this was a big one! What a shame because it could have been a good book had they done it differently. This writer left a huge hole in this book and it will be the last one of hers I read.
Let me start by saying i generally really like Lexy Timms books; however, this one is NOT my favorite.
unfortunately, i don't care for Annie - if she was a real person, i would not be able to be her friend, whines way too much.
i was really angry at how the book ended - i didn't realize that book 2 continued their story. So hopefully Annie won't be so whiny in these part of the book.
First of three; of course, it’s Lexy Timms. Not bad. The male protagonist is an author and his motivation for his book is being affected by his success with his new love interest.
