Since stabbing her brother, Alexandria Reed has lived at Compton Academy, a mental institute disguised as a school. But it wasn’t her fault…was it? Her night terrors had become as real to her as breathing, and she could no longer distinguish reality from her nightmares.
After a long road, her doctor has declared her well enough to leave Compton and rejoin her family in the outside world, but she's worried she won't be able to handle it.
Turns out she’s right, and the monsters are back. The sights and sounds of the horrific creatures snarling and snapping cause her to regress. To hurt people.
She's strapped down to a bed again, the victim of her own insanity. With the help of Dr. Marcel, she's hopeful she can once again put the nightmares to rest.
Only things aren't as they seem. There's something off about the doctor, and she’s having strange dreams—even stranger than the monsters that haunt her. Dreams of a reality where she’s happy and content, but also full of magic and danger.
In the end, she will have to choose one reality over another.
But where does she belong? In the safe, normal reality—or the one that calls to her insanity?
So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.
Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama on you. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.
Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my family and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol.
I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.
While I enjoyed the book parts of it seemed rushed to me. The big battle was almost to fast and to easy. Such a build up to be so simple and over so quickly. I just wanted a little more
For half of the story Alex is trapped in a false reality created by her dear old grandpa. Another twisted soul who wants her power and hell do anything to get it. On the surface I love the concept of this because it’s horrifying. Then on the other hand it’s fu**ing insane because someone is literally screwing, manipulating and torturing her using her own damn mind 🤯🤯🤯. I really do like the author’s imagination so I’ll be on the lookout for more!
Well the start of this had me guessing too. It felt so real. I liked that twist. Grandad was evil through and through. I was a little disappointed in the fight. I thought it could have been a little better. I like the fact that Conner chose to help her. I'm also glad that they can start healing the relationship with their mum.
Currently putting up past reviews from my Blog on GR because I forgot at the time oops 😅
I'm pretty sure I made a mistake picking up this book first. The synopsis, to my sleep-deprived brain, sounded interesting and didn't state that I specifically needed to read the other books in the series to understand this one.
Even though I'm completely out of the loop with the story I will say that having half this book take place in a mental health institution made for a very boring read because barely anything happened. This book also played with the notion of what "reality" really was and even though it was initially interesting I didn't have the beginning of the story to keep me invested in what was happening to care for what eventually happened.
The main character started out very interesting but she lost some of her sparkle along the way. To be frank I still don't really know what she was (paranormal creature wise). I also didn't like how she recapped most of what happened to her in the institution after she left in real time. I just wanted the story to move along at that point!
The dialogue after she left the institution also became strange. Too many people had unnamed accents and a lot of them were also foreign (and the author projected that into the grammar which lost me in the first chapter that that started happening).
Overall, everything that occurred here was my own fault. If I had been paying attention I would have started the series from the beginning (like a normal person does).

The third book in the blackburne trilogy is action packed from start to finish. It starts with Alexandria back in Compton, the psychiatric hospital she was originally sent to as an eleven year old. As the story weaves through many possibilities, it all comes down to Alex, will she make the right choice? She can choose to stay in Compton or return to her family and friends. She has to make the right choice or risk losing her life and the lives of the people she loves the most.
In order to get the most out of this book, you need to read parts one and two of the trilogy. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves the paranormal genre.
This story-line was so perfect for this series. Even in book one, I kept asking myself the same thing we all do when our MCs have been institutionalized - is this real? or is she just imaging it all? Is she a powerful witch with extraordinary friends, or is she locked up and crazy as ever? With some very creative twists and turns, you find the answers. Some will surprise you! Just like the first two books, I could not put this down. I recommend reading this series, definitely have to read them in order, no stand alone's here. Fast reads that blend the story well and best yet, so not predictable! Will keep you questioning and excitedly wondering, 'what's going to happen next?!'
Loved book 1, liked book 2, and LOVE book 3! I love AB. She's a great author, and after The Ghost FIles i love this one.
when this book starts i feel as confused as Alex does. I had to go back and review what happened in book 1 and 2, but after events unfold things make sense.
I loved Luka with Alex, and ALex with Micah and her brother. And her mom's. and uncle. great book, now i need book 4! hurry up.lol.
I started out liking the series, and I do. But as I read each book it got more far-fetched. Yes, I know. It’s paranormal. But she’s a witch, wolf and vampire?! I could wrap my head around her being a witch and a wolf, a syphon even. But a vampire from the womb? She wasn’t bitten! And binding everyone to her? I couldn’t get behind that.
I do like the mental health/illness part and how that was handled.

I loved this series. Apryl Baker writes a great story with compelling characters. I really enjoyed every book in the series. The characters are great and I loved each one. The story was not predictable, and I really loved that. I would recommend this series, but start from the first book, "Blackburne Legacy".
I am really in love with this series and the how this particular book was written, I couldn’t put it down! All weekend that’s all I could do was think about reading this book, and just keep reading it when I got the chance! I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves books with wolves and witches, etc.
Such a good series! I had forgotten (Yes, I'm getting old) about this series, I had devoured the first two and had no idea there was another one out. ( I'm slipping!) But as I read everything started coming back to me and I finished this one in no time! This really is a good series!!
story opens up with the main character back in the mental institution and goes on that way until half of the book. she gets confused as to which reality is real and in the process confuses me as well. even at the end, she still doesnt know. I dont know if this was the authors intent. maybe make the reader make their own choice. however I still enjoyed the book.
Was so excited to get the next book in the series. Started out confused but thoroughly thrilled once I kept reading! I was so spellbound by it that I didn't want to put it down. Loved it as much as the 1st two books. I hope with the way it ended she has another book in mind. Can't wait to see what happens next to Alex and her friends and family!
Interesting story and take on so many different characters. Loved them all! So many different twists over the three books.
Interesting read. Loved the characters and different storylines. Loved the highlighting of different characters and their stories. Loved the mixture and blending of characters.
After reading all the others in this series I couldn't not read this. (I got to read the arc) I thought I'd missed one as this book does mess with your mind but I loved every min of it and has left me wanting more. Thanks Apryl.
Wow. Apryl Baker has shocked and awed me again. This newest instalment of her Bloodlines series had me worried about my own sanity and checking my memories. I was on the edge of my seat and could not put it down. If you havent read the series, you are truly missing out.
I wish it wasn’t the end of the series. I was left wanting more! I’d love to meet the rest of Luka and Alaric’s family, see the Alex and Luka wedding, find out if Alex and Jason are able to fully mend the relationship with their mom. So many questions!
I loved her other series but could’ve done without this one. It was hard to finish it, I didn’t care for making the women feeling like they needed someone to constantly hold them and be possessive.
I put this book high on my list of books to read. I love the connection between the Ghost series. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. I tell my friends to read it and pass it on. Love this book two thumbs way up
This was my least favorite book in this series. I didn’t like that most of the book takes place in Alex’s head, without her cast of friends. I also felt that Luka came off as weak and too dependent on Alex for me. He did not seem to be the same person we met in the first book.
This story was so moving, exciting, entertaining and just WOW!!!. She finally got her revenge and is on the right path to freedom from his craziness!!. Apryl is a PHENOMENAL storyteller and writer!!😘😚.
Which reality would you think was real? I know which one i would be picking to stay in Such an amazing storyline, i couldnt stop reading, was absolutely amazing Highly recommend to everyone,
Watch out for Grandpa!! The first half of this one had me wondering what was going on. I'm happy with the story line of this book. I have a new fav author
This is the 3rd book in the Bloodlines Series. Alex has spent years in a specialized school that caters to people with mental health issues. There is not definite explanation for her nightmares and paranoia but she believes she must be schizophrenic with out the voices, until she sees a purple eyed boy that doesn’t exist and keep telling her about a reality that she desperately wished could be true. But she knows that’s the more she Kong’s for and believes in that alternate world the less health she is and the less likely to be released. I really felt for Alex. I struggled with her trying to believe which was her real world. I started to wonder is the first two books where her mental issues were all chalked up to special abilities was her real life or if that was a giant delusion serving to comfort her in the hospital. It’s so much easier to believe that it was all a delusion vs. being supernatural except you really want the supernatural, and the love, and the sense of peace and home. Loved this book, and this series.
I am a HUGE fan of The Bloodline Series. If you are into supernatural beings and fanciful stories then this series is for you. it will keep you on your toes and have you questioning what is or is not real. Give it a try it won't disappoint.
