Stephen Taylor is a successful British Thriller writer. His Amazon bestselling Danny Pearson series has sold well over 250,000 copies, and delighted lovers of the action and adventure thriller genre. Before becoming a novelist, he ran his own business, installing audio visual equipment for homes and businesses.
With the big 50 approaching, Stephen wrote the book he’d always wanted to. That book was Execution Of Faith. A supercharged, action packed roller coaster of a ride that doesn’t take itself too seriously. People loved the book so much he wrote a prequel Vodka Over London Ice. Because of the timeline, this became the first in the Danny Pearson Thriller Series.
Born out of his love of action thriller books, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp and Tom Wood's Victor. Not to mention his love of action movies, Die Hard, Daniel Craig’s Bond and Guy Richie’s Lock Stock or Snatch. The Danny Pearson series moves along with hard and fast action, no filler, and a healthy dose of humour to move it along.
Ex-SAS soldier Danny Pearson now works as a security guard. He does not take the easy, sit in a hut jobs but the dangerous close protection etc assignments. Stephen sets the scene when Danny stops a knife attack before moving onto his deployment in helping to prevent a terrorist attack from Islamic fundamentalists.
Execution of Faith is an action packed thriller involving the terrorism threat to our country. It is full of drama as the reader follows Danny in his race to stop the terrorist plot.
I was disappointed reading Execution of Faith. It was all comic strip action with our hero Danny being super butch and fighting his way around. There was lots of violence and many deaths in this very average plot. Character development was shallow and I did not develop an empathy for Danny. Missing was an exploration of the ideas behind Islamic fundamentalism, it was as though the bad guys were not religious fanatics but anti-social hooligans having a firework party.
This story lacked realism as Danny, our security guard hero, got access to all areas, supplied with guns etc, joined our intelligence services simply because someone put in a good word and went on international adventures on the trail of the bad guys.
Danny’s collection of contacts were always happy to do things at the drop of a hat, it became so frustrating to read. Calling in the odd favour can be permissible in fiction but to have people constantly at your beck and call is silly.
I found Execution of Faith to be a POOR read that only gets 2 stars from me. It was Stephen’s debut novel and I shall NOT be bothering with his next. This was not an intelligent OR entertaining read and is more like a comic without the pictures.
Execution of Faith was written in 2018 and is available as an Amazon Kindle eBook.
This is a roller coaster ride of non stop action and thrilling scenes. An excellent book that is a treat for those who love action. The author has carved his characters and you feel like sitting with them for some coffee. I would recommend this for all those who want a fast train to a pleasurable read.
This book is good in some ways, in that it wizzes along, is a good story and is gripping in a way.
But, and it’s a big but, it has a ridiculous death count. Almost every time the lead character walks into a room he kills someone. And obviously it is never him who gets seriously hurt.
I read the first in this series and it was similar but opted to give the second one a try. That’s my lot.
It’s hard to take it seriously when the death headcount is so high and so flippant.
An old enemy emerged from his early army days, Snipe, he thought he had seen the last of him, he keeps turning up. Danny is now working freelance for Paul an ex buddy he had saved whilst on a mission, against orders. When Danny retired with honors Paul told him to look him up and he would sort him a job out. Things then began to get complicated. Excellent book.
It’s the first book I’ve read by Stephen Taylor, it was ok but took a of getting into there were a lot of people at the beginning and remembering them all was confusing, the story when I got into it was good but a bit far fetched with the amount if battering people took and then walked away
Danny Pearson is a great character, maybe one of best. Mr Taylor has a great imagination and he has his character's throughout his book that brings me thinking how much I want to read all of this great series. Keep up the great work, Stephen!!
This series is as gripping as Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. I have some struggles with the British content but that is getting better book by book. I’m converted.
Excellent story full on action both sides of the Atlantic, Danny Pearson is my new favourite character, fast moving combining terrorist action with cyber crime. Brilliant
Wow. Action never stopped. couldn't put it down. Liked the humour added here and there to lighten the story. Can't wait to read the next Danny Pearson novel.
This is the second book I’ve read in Mr Taylor’s Danny Pearson thriller series, and once again, the story kept me glued to the page. Fast-moving action, great dialogue and fascinating characters, all interweaved within a blistering tale of bitter retribution, makes for a book that’s guaranteed to enthral you.
Danny Pearson is super chap - a subtle mix of dark and light. He’s ex-Special Forces, so he’s tough, no-nonsense and brutal when he needs to be, but he’s also got the brains to match his brawn. I liked his character in Vodka Over London Ice (book 1 in this series, formerly called Vodka And Jellied Eels), but I’ve grown even more fond of Pearson in this book. His relationship with Trisha, a PA in Greenwood Security - run by his friend, colleague and ex-intelligence operative Paul Greenwood - showed his gentler side, and added another layer to an already complex individual.
I also have a very soft spot for Scott Miller the tech supremo who jumps in at a moments notice to hack, uncover and get into places others - including MI6 - just can’t. He’s full of old English charm, public school gloss, with a naughty playboy, fast-cars and fast women edge. And I adore him. I think Mr Taylor should create a spin-off series for Scotty, I know he’s a character I’d love to see more of.
The villain in the story is two fold. A hate-filled millionaire, Marcus Tenby, seeking revenge for the death and destruction of his family years past, and Nicholas Snipe, an unbelievably vicious psychopath that shared Pearson’s SAS training ground and joined him on him missions, before Pearson advised their CO of Snipe’s ‘psychotic and unstable behavior in theatre’. Snipe has an inner fury, and he’s determined to see Pearson pays for his actions.
The plot line zips along at a rapid pace. It’s Scott who starts the ball rolling with a ‘niggle’ about something. An ex-intern and ex-paramour of his Amaya Sato, contacted him about a project she’s working on with a client, Marcus Tenby, of CMS Software Corporation. She’s found hidden, sophisticated spyware on the computer CMS supplied her, and it’s unnerved her. Also within the banking access program she’s written, the spec’s designed to be part of additional links that are masked, and allow access from other remote programs. Pearson agrees to get Greenwood to look into it, and so begins a story that, although intricate in its plotting, is superb and coherent at every step. This is thriller writing at its best!
Amongst those plot strands is ‘The Faith’ of the title. An Al Qaeda off-shoot, and an organization that groomed Tenby when he was at his most alone and vulnerable. Their insidious leaders have done a deal with a dodgy Russian, for a weapon CY17. Their instrument in the West is Tenby, and they are assured of his loyalty to ‘The Faith’.
Tenby is rich, handsome but invisible. His network of software developers have no clue as to what they’re doing. His associates Kadah and Barzan in London, and Akbar in Syria are also in the dark to Tenby’s real motives. This keeps the reader on their toes, and shock after shock awaits those in Tenby’s web of lies and deception.
Snipe I found to be a greater villain than Tenby. His addiction for sadistic violence made him a worthy foe for Pearson. I hated Snipe the second I encountered him, and that’s what Mr Taylor wanted. Snipe is the worse kind of killer, a man who is turned on by pain and torture. He chilled my blood as I read of his exploits, especially one moment, in which the delivery of his evil had me crying buckets.
The denouement is wrenching and visceral, and had a strange, lightning-fast effect of everything happening almost simultaneously. A feast for one’s senses. It’s incredible! And I loved every second. A very highly recommended book!
If you like Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, Jason Bourne I'm sure your going to love Danny Pearson. I wanted to write an Action Thriller that pulls you along at top speed. With the action and fight scenes that will hopefully make you gasp. I hope you enjoy it. Look out for the next book in the Danny Pearson Thriller Vodka and Jellied Eels available now on Amazon.
I am currently writing the third book in the series Alive Until I Die which will be available summer 2020
Good fast moving thriller involving people out for revenge on people and countries who they deemed to have wronged them in the past. Apart from revenge money and treachery it takes all of Pearson’s skills as a retired SAS operative along with a close friend to uncover the plots and prevent more death and destruction. In doing so Pearson discovers the truth of his wife and sons death and all in all a fast moving thriller spread over two or three countries.
Thoroughly enjoying these books so far..Great character driven plots and engaging all the way through. The fact that they are not short stories really allows me time to get heavily invested in the all facets of the story and enjoy it as it unfolds… looking forward to no.3
Another great read. This, without a doubt, is one of the best journeys I have the pleasure of enjoyment. The characters are as adventurous as one can imagine. Danny is to notch and survives some of the worst beatings I can imagine. His family and friends are very helpful. Well it's on to the next wonderful read.
Downloaded this as soon as I finished the first book in the series. So refreshing to read some decent British authors like this or Benjamin Holly. Well written and easy to read. Off to download the third in the series now. Rule Britannia!
I loved this book full of great characters fast paced action and exciting storyline.if you enjoy books about SAS, the paras spooks and bad guys this series is for you!
I have been reading some stories by an American author which are in a similar vein to Stephen Taylor’s writing. I think I have now found a good English equivalent. Please keep up the good work
No time to test or sleep when reading the adventures of Danny Pearson. Love these books from start to finish. A rollercoaster of a book that leaves the reader.breathless
A totally thrilling read from beginning to end. This is truly a boy’s own adventure story from start to finish with loads of action and plenty of violence all the way through. If this is what you look for in a book then this is hard to beat. Highly recommended.
