Seemed to be a regurgitation of research conducted by other people. I have read a majority of these stories before in other books about haunted rochester and the genessee valley.

It was very interesting to learn a more in depth history to my beloved city of Rochester,NY. I thought some of the sections of the book were written very well and others were very dry where I didn’t really see the relation between the history and haunted locations due to lack of evidence and eye witness testimony. All in all I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn more about Rochester history.

Parts of this book were really intersting to me. Perhaps the whole book didn't interest me because I wasn't born in Rochester.

Good on history, but pretty light on the actual ghost stories. The best mix was in the first section of the book, focused on Native American tales. (B)

I love history and enjoy a ghost story, so I figured this would be a fantastic book. Unfortunately, it was not. It was pretty light on history and barely touched ghost stories. Much is vague and simply refers to tales of ghosts without ever providing any detail. A lot of ghost stories I heard growing up in Rochester don’t even make an appearance. This book was a let down.

Nice summary

A very short, concise view of haunting lore in ROC and its surrounds. Those looking for more depth will need to look at other books mentioned in the text. Winfield does have a flare for atmospheric writing though so well worth the read .

Each mini-story consists of 1-3 pages, of which only a few paragraphs at most are the actual (milquetoast) story, with the remainder being anecdotes, useless historical information and random reflection on the part of the author.

Not worth the time or the money to even the most bored individual.
