A compelling, heart-touching story of a drug addict. Aakash has so much emotional pain inside him that he can breathe only because of the escape that comes from the hits of smack. He looks for succor in his school sweetheart Aarti but she opts for the fast lane to come out of her impecunious situation in life. She manipulates the top industrialist Basant Somani into a relationship entirely on her terms. The industrialist’s wife Rajeshwari Devi is a kind-hearted woman of religious mind-set who makes several attempts at cleaning up the mess from Aakash’s life, but he fails her every time. The turn of events takes Aakash and Aarti to Haridwar where they rediscover their emotional connection but Aakash has already gone too far down the road of addiction. Can Aarti bring him back?
This our 4th Book by Dr. Govind Sharma. All of his previous books were read and reviewed by my wife. So this time I gave a try. The book was like a Diwali gift to me. I have taken it to one day journey from Surat to Mumbai. The 200-pages-long book gave me a good company for 8+ hour of the journey (though actual reading time was around 4-5 hours only)
As the name suggests, Aakash & Aarti are the main characters of our story. Aakash belonged to a modest priest family but he had lost parents at an early age. He was being raised by relatives, which was also changed from time to time. The situation led him to loneliness. The directionless teen-age made him take the path of drugs. On the other side, Aarti belonged to a very poor family and she was the youngest of her four siblings (all sisters). She was shrewd and practicle. She knew there was no future if she stayed dependent on her parents. She understood the bitter truth of society and willing to go to any extreme to get herself out of poverty. Characters that joined these two are Somanis. Basant Somani was an established businessman and his second wife was Rajeshwari Somani, a 29-year-old lady. Rajeshwari had shown great care towards Aakash. Aarti wanted to take a shortcut to success by amoral actions, so she was using Basant Somani. Things got bitter, and Aakash-Aarti got separated. Destiny brought them together again in Kashi, by that time Aakash was already a slave of Drugs. The second half talks about it.
When I narrated the story to my wife, she said Govind Sharma is improving with each successive book. This book has crossed bar set by "Break Up Clinic". I also found that many authors in process of attracting young readers add too much "Love Sex & Dhoka" and "Sutta Daru & Drugs", but very few shows how their lives become victim/slave to those bad habits. The story shows the bitter side of today's young generation traits. Especially drugs, the situation of Aakash reminded me situation shown in Sanju movie which was faced by Sanjay Dutt.
Positive points about the book 1) Simple & Gripping Tale 2) Easy language usage 3) Short & ideal light read
One survey has revealed there are an estimated three million addicts in India for the drug, available easily at street corners in some areas. - India Times Report
The figures are terrifying. It's difficult to see people suffer perennially just because they did not have courage to realize the optimistic side. Many turn out to be great personalities despite going through hell, others just can't. This book was about them.
Of Aakash and Aarti by Govind Sharma sir is his fifth book combating yet another social evil with the blend of fiction and young adult drama. Narrated eloquently, the result is an eyeopening book.
The massage is loud and clear - "Say No to Drugs" "Say No to Wrong Choices".
Set in Rajapur, Aakash, studying 12th standard, craves for the daily doses of drugs. Nothing satisfies his hunger. For drugs, he can go to lengths and lengths and distances he goes.
Aarti, appearing sweet, simple, the girl-next-door is being led by her starvation for money. to get out of poverty, she can go to lengths and she does just that.
Their entangled journey progresses and they themselves hardly make any growth in their morals and commitment to live a life with a sound mind and body.
Starkly noticeable thing is how the author has implicitly demonstrated the lack of attention given to the children and adolescent. Had a few things been done a bit differently, both the protagonists' lives would turn out to be an eventful one and that was the takeaway for the readers.
Most impressive part is how the characters don't introspect until everything is ruined and regret is the only option. This book was close to reality as it takes bravery to come out of any addiction and success rates are low.
Mr. Basant's faint, hearing about the demonetization of 8th November, cracked me up. He deserved it. The book had me look for the statistics in India's perspective. Kudos to the author for picking up such subject.
Recommended to those looking for light and effective read.
The book has been written very well . The story is all about a boy dip under the some grieve circumstances into the anti-societal act of Drug addiction. How the situation got worse with time till remorse? but its too late for him. On the other hand the story is revolving around the Girl of the same age as of the boy who due to her long back poverty as she belonged to the lower-middle-class family used herself unwittingly to earn as much as she could not only to support her family; specifically her dying mother, but also to make her able to stand on her own.
But in both the cases, both persons due to their immature age and ambiguous decisions, do not know the repercussions of what they are moving towards. On one hand where the girl (Aarti) is ruining one house which is well flourished home to a descent lady; on another hand the boy (Aakash) is spoiling himself due to his undying habit of drugs of all sorts. To which extent one can go to fulfill his unquenchable thirst for the drugs if once started, gave goosebumps to me. Specially in the chapter in which Aakash ran from his home due to unable to save the most precious ring of Rajeshwari Devi even when she trusted him more than anyone for any such causes and supported him to the fullest to keep him on right path.
How one can't be able to control himself from such level of addiction? Raised a very big question even when governments of every country are working hard on the same to stop it at all levels. Also, a big question raised on the condition of the families in which the guardian failed to provide proper values to their girl child who in return them being naive of the consequences took wrong directions to make their stand. Not elaborated specifically, but pointed briefly, the situation of the Conservative families (here, of Bengal Area) in India where the Parents to get-over of their debts or other kind of financial issues/unbalance give their daughter's hand in some wealthy family's man keeping aside the thought of the differences in age, values, compassion and such many more basic things without looking in deep through these. And this in almost every case results in the bad future for the girls.
Author has written the plot so well and elaborated the two societal evils in a smooth manner. So thoughtful. though its a fictional Novel but its a very nice way of raising the issues to let the readers be aware of these kind of ill-acts lying in today's society.
I really liked the novel and would love to read more like same, differently.
‘Of Aakash and Aarati’ by Govind Sharma is a book about Aakash and Aarati where we get to see the turmoils of adolescent and how children can get into wrong things if parents don’t get involved in their children and try to be active in their children’s life and getting to know their children. With constant bunking from the school he gets expelled and he is sent to his grandfather at Rajapur. To know more read ‘Of Aakash and Aarti’.
My Opinion:
Loved the writing style of the author. The book is written in a lucid manner and is very well researched. We get to see the true plight of the drug addicts and how they turn to drugs because they feel that they are worthless or trying to get out of some sadness and in a way try to cope with the help of drugs. The main objective is to show the readers how drugs is making life complicated and getting out of this habit is very difficult as there are some elements in our society who don’t want such people to get out of this and try to involve them more into drugs. But instead of giving up on drug addicts we must continue our fight against drugs and try to remove our youths from this vicious circle.
The book would keep the readers engaged throughout the book and would make the readers want to know what is going to happen ahead. The book takes a very expansive look at the topic and also shows us the counter measure that we have for drug addicts. The author has also brought to our notice that parents should take more interest in their children especially during adolescent and be friends to them so that they don’t feel neglected and can share their true feelings with them. The author has also discussed the poor choices we make for ourselves when we say yes to drugs and also the policies that the government.
The book is very informative and we get to see that the answer to all the questions we have in our mind about drugs is that we can opt to other methods and one should ask oneself when getting into such unethical practices. And the best option is to learn to say ‘NO TO DRUGS’.
I would recommend this book to everyone who’s looking to read a book wherein the plight of the drug addict is discussed and one would ponder over the drug racket and how these people involve poor and young children into this bad habit. This was a informative book which I feel everybody should read.
A compelling novel which would leave you in tears. The story captures the essence of how the life would turn when you become addicted to drugs. Hats off to the author who has captured this and explained it with intricate details that it would bring forth the real danger and effect that one would surely has to face when become addicted. Though we get to see the statutory warning flashing across the movie screens and on the packs of these items, we tend to give a damn about the warning. The end result would mostly be devastating unless you are blessed with a miracle.
The protagonist - Aakash who lost his parents in his childhood had to go against his own will and wishes in order to fulfill the dreams of his grandfather. He falls in love with Aarti but never revealed it to her. Aarti who hailed from a poor background also had a miserable childhood. Aakash enters into good books of Rajeshwari Devi whose better half Basant Somani was the richest person in that locality.
Though Aakash had all the luxuries that were ushered in on him by Rajeshwari Devi, he could not enjoy it as he becomes addicted to drugs. In the meanwhile, Aarti's life track gets changed. The story isn't a thriller but it would still keep you captivated till the end as it brings out mixed emotions which includes love, lust, treachery among others.
The dark face of the society which is hiding behind the slow poison called "Drugs" has been captured very vividly by the author which has portrayed the character in its real essence.
At the end of the story, I was left in a dilemma as to who I should feel sorry for - Aakash, Aarti or Rajeshwari Devi. Read the story and I am sure you wouldn't agree to disagree with me.
Another Good Book By Author Dr. Govind Sharma,Targeted To Drug Addiction And Its Harm To The Addict Person And The peoples In Their life. This Is Good Book For Youngsters Also To Teach Them How Dangerous Is Drug Addiction.
Book Is Not So Lengthy You Can Finish It In Single Reading.
Good Efforts By Author To Create this kind of Story. For Young Peoples.
When Dr. Govind Sharma contacted me requesting to review his latest work especially a book aimed for youngsters I was excited and immediately agreed to it. This is the fourth book of the author I’m reviewing and being a person familiar with his work I was eagerly waiting for the books arrival in hostel.
Of Aakash and Aarti, Govind Sharma’s fourth book is different from his previous ones but as usual ends with a positive message. He have continued his short and simplistic writing style which has been a delight for me, making his books light and breezy. This one sheds light on drug use among the youngsters ruining them and those who love them. The message of this book is loud and clear “Say No To Drugs” but how the author coveys it is what makes this book special.
This book is a fast-paced gripping fictional tale of Aakash, a city slicker forced to flee back to his native due to drug addiction and Aarti a sweet, simple village girl fighting family’s poverty single handily with big dreams to pursuit. Aakash was born in a family of priests of the Somani temple of Rajapur but he had lost parents at an early age. He was raised by his relatives and his lonely teenage made him take the path of drugs. The other protagonist was Aarti a shrewd and very practical girl from a poor family. She tasted the bitter truth of the society and was ready to take any extreme step necessary to evade from poverty. The plot is set in Rajapur, the protagonists meet here as schoolmates, and from there their journey takes a roll coaster ride. As the plot develops things get bitter, Aakash-Aarti get separated and destiny brings them together again in Kashi, but this time its too late for Aarti to save Aakash. Or is it?
The author has built up the plot in such a way that it is close to the reality were we do not realise our mistakes until we are neck deep in trouble. It also throws light on how lack of attention given to children could potentially risk their life and complex relationships. The characters in the plot are well written giving them a depth that helps you immerse in the plot. Another important thing I noticed is that the author has given a great attention to ensure every character’s life is eventful making them crucial to the story line. The book also throws light to how drug cartels debt traps you into selling drugs. I also loved the idea how the author included the demonetisation event into the main plot to decide the fate of Mr. Basant making the plot even more realistic. This book have definitely proved that with each book Govind Sharma is stepping up his league.
Overall, it is a good read. Highly recommended especially for those looking for a light read.
ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Every now or then a book comes along that leaves you breathless and changes the way you look at the world. Of Aakash and Aarti is one of those books a profound read that has made me rethink the war on drugs. A very worthy, well-researched and well-written book by Govind Sharma. It should, I hope, come to be regarded as an important book. Brilliantly constructed, lucid, compelling and mind changing love story. It has certainly influenced the way I perceive drugs, drug users, drug addicts, social policy and the drug war. "Addiction is an adaptation. It's not you - it's the cage you live in." Unfortunately for many, a trouble childhood leads to a sense of worthlessness in which even a tribe of crack or heroin addicts, and the crazy life that brings, is better than no life at all. Govind Sharma does a great job of creating an authentic teenage person in Aakash. He’s goofy, thoughtful, at times crass and inappropriate but always believable. Akash forces himself to date the most beautiful girl and sports captain Aarti in school to prove that he's straight, but the whole thing blows up in his face and body as he is addicted to drugs. He is not able to come out of his situation despite getting support from Aarti because of his troubled childhood. What happens to Aakash and Aarti. Will he able to come out of the situation.
The moral of this book is to be true to yourself but addicted to drugs just makes life complicated. The main point of the book is to explain how fighting the drug trade is like squeezing a balloon--when you put pressure on it in one place, it will expand somewhere else. But you must continue your fight against usage of drugs as many of the youths are nowadays addicted. This book kept me paying attention throughout the entire time of reading it. It is very well written. While I was reading it I always wanted to know what would happen next.
I would recommend this book to anyone like me who is interested in reading about the conflicts of a boy struggling to come out of using drugs at an early stage of his life.
This book takes a very expansive look at the topic at hand--in this case, drug use and our policy to counter measure. He brings us in conclusion to a fundamental question: Are we ourselves merely the victims of our own poor choices and laws that are beyond our control, in need of protection by a paternalistic totalitarian society (not just government, but medical-industrial complex), or are we able to make hard choices and be responsible on our own.
This is not just a book about drugs but a look at many areas of business and economics through a practical lens. It is all strangely addictive, informative and engaging and finally giving a clear message “don’t use drugs”, “ Say no to Drugs”.
The story is about a boy named Aakash who had a difficult and problematic childhood and how he became a drug addict. Story narrates how his addiction ruined his life. The story also belongs to Aarti who is of same age as Aakash, is his friend and let go off her dignity to achieve her goals.
My take:
Nowadays we come across various stories of different genres but rarely we get a story with a social message. Drug addiction is a topic which people blissfully feel cannot impact their kids or family. They are ignorant. But it is one topic which needs attention and that is exactly what the story deals with.
After break-up clinic, author has yet again bought a story with a social message to learn from. The novel absolutely justifies it’s title. The story is about both Aakash and Aarti. While the part of Aakash is narrated in first person but that of Aarti is in third person. The chapters are small and crisp, never dragging at any place. Story is very fast moving. Few characters but all are central to the plot.
You feel pity reading the moments of Aakash when he faces harrassment and you at times abhor Aarti for the shrewdness and guitlfree moves she makes to achieve her ambitions. The story of Aarti also depicts a dark side of our society.
The episode of demonitization was very intriguing. Frankly, I never saw this side of demonitization, the businessman and drug peddlers handling the black money. It was equally eye opener to read about how some of the dealings are actually done by businessmen. The narratives are brilliant and you can see the scene in your imagination. However, I would have loved to know the in depth thoughts of the characters.
The ending was very filmy and tragic too. I hoped for a happy ending. However, the message of the book is very clear “Say no to drugs” and an unsaid message from the story of Aarti “Don’t get attracted to material things” or maybe “Nothing material in this world is worth giving up your dignity”.
Drug addiction is a major social evil that is taking youth into its grip and affecting country's biggest human resource faster than ever. ❇This book revolves around such a plot where the protagonist is under the addiction of life threatening Drugs. ❇Dr. Sharma's books always are based on such topics that need discussions for betterment of society . For example the previous book Break up Clinic was read by me a year ago which focused on psycho-analysis of Post traumatic stress symdrome patients after break ups. Another of his books State v/s Amrit Kumar put strength on reducing corruption in bureaucratic world .Most books of Author revolve around the true cultural values of Indian society that help curb such occurrences. ❇This particular story portrays the major reasons why youth go under influence of drug addiction and how that degrades not only their lives but destroys their loved ones too. ❇They run into crime and destroy their glowing future for nothing. ❇At times most go so far they are impossible to recover even if they want to. ❇Language is ornamental at places that makes for a nice read. ❇Character of Aarti and Aakash were interesting . ❇Twists and turns make the story enjoyable with chain of events. ❇Few times I got bit confused at few places ❇The plot is effective to convey the necessary message underlying in the story. ❇ Pace is moderate. ❇Cover is minimalistic and beautifully soothing.
One more lovely creation from Dr Sharma’s pen. I completed the book in two sittings. The best part of the book is the simplicity of the language used and the ease of conveying the message. It's suitable for a class 8th kid as well as a matured guy at any age. The book reflects Dr Sharma’s passion for bringing out social changes in current set up of the system. He has clearly demonstrated the outcomes of drug addiction which is many folded . The author wanted to say that guilt and depression are the biggest enemies of the mankind. If you are lonely for some reason and that does not bring any pleasure to your life , then it does not mean that you should be in the same state till your last breath. Make friends and move ahead. Respect those who values you, may be they won't be there when you would like to value them. The author has presented a clear case of how Karma pays, if you ruin other's lives, then you would never be spared with. It's not the first book from the author and I am delighted that I have read all his books and have understood his messages.
I don't want to narrate any part of the story as it will be a spoiler for the readers. I would just like to say that the book is about “Say No to Drugs and Value them who value you”.
This book is an appropriate book that a teenager should prefer, not only that it is for people across the ages. The ability to say “No” can do wonders. The ability to take the right decisions can be beneficial not only for self but for family, friends, and everyone around us. This book broadcasts a strong message to society. The author has managed to set up the context very straight and clear.
Dr. Govind Sharma has been to the point and shared a detailed insight through a dramatic way of what wrong choices and drugs can possibly do. It is a heart-warming read. Definitely a must-read.
What I liked: Subtle Narrative. The ability to send across the message with a dramatic storyline.
What could have been improved: It is a compact book, and major aspects are polished.
In a Nutshell: To the point. Worth a read.
The Review: Book Type: Fiction Category: Indian Writing, Contemporary Fiction, Romance Readability: Easy Overall book verdict: 4/5 Story & Concept: 4.2/5 Detailing & Information: 4.4/5 Cover: 4/5 Overall Edit: 4/5 The flow of Chapters: 4/5
This is definitely a coming of age story of both the protagonists Aakash and Aarti who are the at the threshold of their youth. Their mysterious and secret trajectories would make a great impact on our mind.
This fast-paced tale of friendship, greediness, vices, and virtues would take you the real dark world wherein most of the activities of Mcs happen behind the screen. An interesting and engaging thriller with a strong connection of action and suspense giving an account of miseries they encounter.
It is a great challenge to the author to have a drug addict as the hero of the social drama and he is very much successful in creating sympathy for him in the reader's mind. There is a lot of power struggles, other supportive characters are feeling helpless. Acclimatized to the realm of opulence the characters get intertwined to move the story with all its messiness and intricacy. Memorable characters are the bright spots in a powerful plot.
The narration skill and the storyteller in the author are plus points which make the readers hooked to the novella. The twists and turns with unimaginable and impeccable knots serve as a sure page-turner.
Language is fluid and crisp. Charterers blend with the plot so nicely we can relate with their emotions.
This book is a fitting tribute to a drug addict and holds great messages which would touch the hearts of the readers,.creating a new perspective on drug addicts. This great story of redemption, Character growth wherein the side characters also shine.
As this book targets the youth and elders there are many scintillating scenes which are not suitable for children.
This book tells the story of a down to earth persons to reality and the turmoil the Mcs to go through and the change in their mindset would definitely coax you to have a second thinking. The book gives a good insight into the workings of Hindu temples and rituals and cultures.
Needless to say Of Aakash and Aarti is a classic page-turner loaded with entertainment with a contemplative and absorbing concept with hidden depth .
The author has the amazing ability to look at the real issues.
Even though this book is aimed at teens. It is a very good book that actually deals with a lot of things that teenagers and even adults struggle with. Teen age is the age of immaturity so many of them like Aakash and Aarti follow the wrong ways like drugs and affairs. The author Dr.Govind Sharma writes characters you feel and root for in the book. Though the title and cover is not that unique, blurb of the book compel you to pick it up. Language of the book is simple and easy to read. Overall I liked this book. If you are looking for a quick summer read. This would be a good pick.
The story of the book revolves around the impact of drugs in one's life...a rather important issue in today's generation. The author has done a commendable job by choosing this topic and the plot is equally great. The society and the situation of a drug addict is very well shown. Also the reasons that leads a person towards such things are well portrayed. Highly recommended!!
Its a simple novel, and a in depth study of a Drug addict well researched, how a young guy from a well off family got into drugs and destroyed his and others life as well. Its also a tale of ambitions and tragedy of life.
One more lovely creation from Dr Sharma’s pen. I completed the book in two sittings. The best part of the book is the simplicity of the language used and the ease of conveying the message. When I started reading this book, Govind Sirs words and writing already got me hooked to following lines - "All I wanted from life was peace and quiet and the absence of unpleasant feelings, but the life has its own scene and a man rarely gets what he wants. I can say with some conviction that those who look pleased with life are basically faking happiness" while I continued reading, i could relate to most of the human feelings, addictions, wrong choices and negative thinking. The plot is well written.
After finishing this book I remembered a quote from Naruto- that every single one of us has a fanged beast hidden inside our minds. It lies there, waiting in the dark reaches of a person’s soul and it appears in our lowest moments. It doesn’t matter how strong you think you are. When the beast comes, it is impossible to control. It can even end up hurting those closest to you. But if the monster can be tamed, reigned in with the strength of your will, it can become a magnificient power.. And can even make your dreams reality.
I hope more of India's youth read this wonderful book and realize that misery is human creation, seek help and overcome all the impurities of mind.
The last book that I had read of Mr. Govind Sharma is “State vs Amrit Kumar” and I had liked it a lot considering it was of only 150 pages and covered a wonderful story where the cop fought against corruption getting against his own seniors and officials. I was very much impressed by the author that he could narrate a wonderful story in such limited words. I picked up his latest book last week named “Of Aakash and Aarti” which is again been limited under 194 pages and author has again impressed me as a reader the way he narrates this story in as less pages as possible which includes multiple characters with different emotional sets.
The backdrop of the story is very well described and narrated which makes it easier for the readers to understand the characters of the lead- Aakash and Aarti. Both the characters are so distinctly different from each other yet gets along well is what becomes a wonderful read initially. And then the ambition of a poor girl is so beautifully portrayed that you fall even for the wrong things that she gets into. It takes guts to confuse readers with what is right and wrong with a character despite knowing that everything done is nothing but completely criminal and immoral. On the other hand, the way Aakash’s association with drugs is shown tells the readers about the ill-effects of getting addicted and what it does to a very good person.
The way the importance of being away from drugs is narrated tells the good intention with which the author has put this novel out for his readers. I just felt as a drawback after a point of time not making his character leave drugs made the story rotate around the same cycle of sub-plot again and again thus making it monotonous and boring after a point of time. The characters of Basant and Rajeshwari Devi is again an interesting set-up. I liked how the author has worked upon the background which makes his characters sound real and happening. Talking about another drawback, I felt that author could not maintain the relationship of Aakash and Aarti regularly in the book. He would either discuss Aarti’s life or Aakash’s but could not take their story forward simultaneously. That could have made the book more evolving. Rest, I feel only the title of this book would prevent readers from buying it as it sounds like a cheese love story though it’s not. Rest, it’s a fine story to which I give 3.25 stars out of 5.
This book is written from the perspective of Aakash. When I started reading it, I instantly recognized with Aakash and his everyday life and challenges. The overbearing expectations from family, those teenage crushes, an avoidant personality which shys away from too much social life. A greater need for peace. That's literally the phase so many witness in the age of 18 to 21.
Aarti, his love interest, is portrayed as a superficial promiscuous girl with her set of personal challenges and choice of taking an easy path.
There are many more characters, Basant Somani and Rajeshwari who play a major role in taking the story forward. Both of them trying to help our main protagonists in some way or the other. The setting seems to be a semi-urban fictional town of Rajapur and it takes the characters to the holy place of Haridwar.
The relationship between Aakash and Aarti is more like friends than love, or I would say, the mainstream portrayal of love. Maybe love could be this, something genuine and not over-the-top. The book got me emotional towards the end.
There are many elements throughout the story. Few being, disparities between classes; internal truths about lives of the rich; trading a girl's body for lust; drug peddling; age-old expectations of traditional families and how it impacts their offspring; drug and substance abuse.
Author Govind Sharma ji's polished language and fine narrative always amazes me. The way he describes situations, it almost feels to me that I'm there watching it. The dialogue's language between young characters is so updated with full use of the gen-z lingo. Even the characterization is apt. The story is such that will make you read cover to cover. I'm glad there's one Indian Author who doesn't write typical things but has such a fresh vision and voice.
The book has contents related to severe emotional trauma and drug abuse. Anyone who has been through similar things is advised to pick the book on their own choice. Ultimately message given is to say no to Drugs!
This novel narrates the story of two youngsters Aakash and Aarti. This novel aptly describes the psychology and emotional states of youngster who are about to step into the life of adulthood.
The human nature and its complexities and the dark side of human nature is described . Most importantly this is a story about how human being can conquer all the difficulties in his life and find redemption.
Author has described the life of a drug addict and an ambitious girl vividly and created a fast paced page turner.
Novel is gripping and very interesting and language is simple and can be easily understood.
Aakash belongs from a wealthy priest family but due to his family conditions he is being raised by his relatives. Due to the lack of parental authority in his life he soon fell victim to the vice of drugs at a very early age. By using the character of Aakash, author has created a protagonist who is full of faults and vices. And this novel gives a strong message how drugs can ruin life. On the other hand Aarti is beautiful and shrewd girl who can go to any length to achieve whatever she wants. As the novel progresses we see how the characters of both the youngsters evolve. Aakash spend his entire life blowing like a leaf in the wind, but at last he found redemption by doing the right thing for a person who cared for him so much. Similarly Aarti found herself entangled in the crime she didn't even commit and shock of this incident forced to reject the word and found solace in spirituality.
On the whole this is a good novel on human behavior and the serious social problem of drugs in the modern society. It contains diversity which characterizes the human life. In fact it is picture in which pitiable side of human life is narrated. The sexual morality and immorality has been depicted in all its aspects.
Drug addiction is a massive problem among youth today and author has taken up a brilliant topic of social concern and tried to convey a message of social benefit, which is "Say no to drugs". Of Aakash and Aarti is a story of a drug addict young teenager boy. His sufferings, anti social behaviour, how addiction makes him helpless and pushes him into being a criminal against his will, torture by suppliers, everything has been described so accurately by the author that it paints a vivid picture in the reader's mind which makes it an experience equivalent to watching a movie. The novel also throws some light on the role of parents and guardians in upbringing of children which is not just to provide them with monitory comforts but also to nurture them with love and care as it is of utmost importance. On the other hand the story also offers an embedded view of malignant ambitions of youth in the form of Aarti, who is a schoolmate of aakash, exploitation of young girls by the society and job providers and immoral attitude of prosperous, well-off people who exploit such ambitious girls. The author has glorified the power of selfless love in overcoming the issues of a drug addict who finds it impossible to discover will power or self respect along with the role of spirituality to survive social norms. Vocabulary is very crisp as in all previous novels and the story line has been framed such that the reader is hooked from the beginning till the end.
Got this book in exchange of honest review. Privileged to be chosen by author to review his book every-time. In all his books till now, this is much more involving I should say. The main theme of the book is "Say no to Drugs". This has been carried throughout the plot nicely. The story never lags and a quick read for the reader. * The faces of the current society and the mindsets have been nicely weaved. * The way a drug addict leads his life desperately and unable to come out of the addiction even though he had people to support him morally. * The situations which leads a person to become a drug addict. * The wishes and goals of a teen age girl which makes her do anything to achieve her goal and come out of her social pit. * How the drug business goons treat their customers long-term. * And at the end as it says "Karma wont leave anyone", the two join and fulfil the purpose. The turn of teen age girl quitting the material world and many aspects of each character has been nicely told. Good work by the author. Thank you.
The book is a rather unusual story , since the narrator of the story Aakash is a drug addict who is hopelessly addicted to different kinds of drugs. The author has provided a very comprehensive insight into the life of drug addicts, who do anything to get money to pay for the drugs which they consume, and are often deeply in debt. They are involved in robbery to get money, and it is relevant in places where drug use levels are high, because of these addicts increase in crime rates stealing whatever they can. The book also provides insight into the life of rich men, how beautiful women like Aarti can seduce them and make them do whatever they wish.It is one of the first books on notebandi or demonetization, describes how rich people converted their black money into white. Like all the earlier books of Dr Govind Sharma, this well written book is very readable and realistic. So it is highly recommended for those who have not interacted with addicts, yet live in areas where crime rate is high due to drug use.
Blurb- Its the story of Aakash, who is the grand son of a high priest of the temple. His mother died after his birth and his grandfather sent him to different relatives for his studies at Mumbai. Then he became a drug addict so that relatives sent him back. There he met Aarti, she belonged to a poor family, and she decided to lure richest married man in Rajapur. But she always has soft corner for Akash. The book has shown bitter reality of lives of drugs addict.
▶️Very different plot. ▶️Good use of vocabulary and language. Nice page turner story that holds your attention. ▶️I prefer this because these types of books should be encouraged to prevent or show reality of addicts. ▶️Unpredictable end. ▶️Recommended.
Finally I read this one! I wanted to read this book from a long time and finally I got the time and I am very happy that I read it.
Received this book from the author for an honest review and I would say I loved it.
The story is simple yet it grips you till the end.
This is a story of a drug addict and what all circumstances he faces because of his addiction.
I really loved the writing style as I was connected with most of the characters and even at some points I could sense what a drug addict might be going through.
Really a good read!
Thanks a lot to Govind Sir for this beautiful gift:)
"Of Aakash and Aarti " by Dr Govind Sharma looks like a simple love story because of its title but it is far beyond that. Though Aakash and Aarti are attracted to each other and in their own ways care for each other their paths quite different.
This book lays bare the horrors of drug addiction without any soft approach and puts the hard facts and how your choices in life are affected due to it are shown without any sympathy. This book doesn't preach or give moral lessons but lays bare the hard facts. Along with the horrors of drug addiction also are shown the results of immoral and blind ambition which lead to disastrous consequences. This book also sheds light on the life of the rich and famous.
This is a simple story of addiction, immoral choices and greed and the consequences of it. And I would recommend it to every one. The story is simple but hard hitting and makes one who is contemplating trying drugs to think ten times before submitting to the notion "I can quit whenever I want. I am not going to be an addict because its only recreational" and how it becomes addiction before one is aware of it and also to to hell with consequences ambition, how it never leads to the salvation you want but rather drags you to the destruction of your self with it. Also showcases the supposedly happy and heavenly lives of super rich. This book also tells that every action never escapes its result. Just for example the pious and moral Rajeswari devi, how one mistake in her life leads to her death. Kudos to the author for not softlining. Way to go Dr Govind Sharma.
