Disclaimer #1- This series is about a guy that summons a harem of hot succubus women and then battles demon lords to save the world.Disclaimer #2- It's way raunchier than my other novels. You'll probably love it.
“Succubus Lord (Succubus Lord #1)” was a mistake for me to acquire; it’s incredibly juvenile, and pretty much is a poster book for “male fantasy harem” type books.
MC Jacob grows his powers by having sex with various succubuses. He and his pal Todd summoned the girls for sex, and then Todd became an imp, the girls fell in lust with Jacob and the story got even more ridiculous as they battled the succubuses former boss from Hell, Earl.
Don’t get this book unless you’re a 14yo boy without access to internet porn. 2*
I really enjoyed this book. Overall it managed to make me feel surprised by the characters actions. The characters were engaging and fun to read about. The book also managed to find a way to turn a man who summons succubus into the good guy working for the angels.
I both loved this book and hated it. The succubi were awesome but needed a bit more to their character. The way the MC powers were described, to me, were wonky. But the thing that really erked me was the reason why the succubi decided to stay with MC. Also there were some missing words and extra words in a few spots.
I wasn't sure about this book to start with. The stoner Todd got on my nerves and Jacob was the wimpy follower. Then after they summoned the succubus everything took off like a rocket. Jacob getting new powers was a new approach from other books I have read before and I liked it a lot. I can't wait for the next book.
Great book, full of comedy, action, defined characters, and a fun plot. First book I've read from the author, and won't be the last. Looking forward to SL book 2 :) more action, more succubi, more fun
Still bad. Funny sometimes (at one point in the book even the narrators start laughing out of character because of the shit they say), but even among his books it's one of the bad ones.
This book had elements that might have been entertaining...had it not come off so completely flat. The narrators did fine (editing issue in chapter 19 notwithstanding), but the entire story felt like I was reading assembly instructions for a bookshelf. Ok, a somewhat naughty bookshelf...but still!
I had to stop reading. There are just too many things that don't make sense like the main character actually believing that two succubi who have been having sex with thousands of men over the millennia have never had a better one. But then again, it might just be in character since his actions are not the brightest. Also, the magic system is rather sloppy.
It's a Chad book, by that I mean, it's a book for people with chad level IQ. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun little adventure for the first 4 chapters or so, the it's more predictable than the second hand of a clock. And it does the typical power level thing, where the mc defeats some super op boss, and still every little grunt he fights with pushes him to the brink of defeat, now that would be k, it would actually be pretty cool if done in a good way, but here it's done in more of a " next dude has to be more powerfull, other wise what's the point", especially since the first dude he defeats is a big shot (no spoiler), and after the mc kills that big shots, other bigshots try to kill him, cause he is supposed to be weak, but if he is so weak, then the bigshot he killed first must be weaker, and should have already perished by other bigshots right.....no, if that happened, then the story might just get some interesting turns, but can have that. And the whole succubus angel is just outright self contradictory, the succubus are supposedly the power of these demon lords, and yet they are also considered the lowest and weakest of every existing demon, and are treated like shit by everyone, all so that the mc can get our sympathy. And then there is the mc and the supporting cast, the mc is dumb bag of rocks, among heavier bag of rocks, thats all the words I can waste on him, he is called smart again and again by others, but it's more of a deaf king of the blind kingdom scenario. He has cool powers, but barely any creativity, I mean if u got portal magic, the first thing u would do in every battle would be to kill people using it to chop their bodies off, but no, it's barely used. And then there is Todd, the comedic relief, well shit, I will let u suffer through him, cause in suffered through him, and if he died, the book would be a better book. And the sex is the usual, awesome first time, and then then just skip every time after that, sadly sex and slice of life things are major part of the books, I am at book 9, and if we shortened the sex, and slice of life, and killed the todd then the 9 books can be done in 3, and no I am not exaggerating, if I read the books, compare it yourself. Lastly all I can say is, I got introduced to the author from his book series, without law, and that was a good book series, at thr start atleast, as it progressed, well like I said, slice of life and sex. And a tip, if u get audio books, listen at 1.25 or 1.5x speed, trust me u won't regret that life decission.
This really isn't my first foray into male harem novels, but it's a good as any to review. A regular joe and his stoner friend summon two blistering hot succubi for a night of sex and more, and the joe ends up becoming their new masters and using his newly awakened powers to fight off their demon pimp.
It's amazing how many of these books exist. I don't mean just this series (which is 11+ books) but in general. Most of them all follow the same formula. Regular guy gets/has superpowers, meets multiple hot women, has sex with them, and fights a world-devouring evil. The LitRPG versions add "power up the hero like in a JRPG" ripped straight from "Is it OK to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon." Some are darker, focusing on villains who do the above things. But these are all male versions of bodice rippers and erotic romance, and Succubus Lord is no different.
The quality honestly is on par with series versions of romances, think bad Harlequin novels. At least the tone is generally positive wish fulfillment; like most harem anime, the hero is usually pretty moral and does the right thing apart from having a harem. There is explicit sex, which is part of this genre's draw, and it's kind of meh. It's pretty much average or less, but I guess people like it enough for the guy to write so many. There really wasn't anything about this one memorable though, and everything just seems to happen. I kind of feel I'd want a book solely of the cover art though; whomever he hired to do that is one heck of an artist.
A much better book to read along these lines is Catch All The Girlfriends!, which is LitRPG but is hilariously based on a Pokemon-style universe in which all the mons are female and you catch them to fight with...and of course sex. That one the writer actually cares about the story and world, while Succubus Lord is just a little bland. Can't complain about "free with Kindle Unlimited" I guess.
I liked one series by this author, largely due to the mechanics of the world, but this one has practically no depth, and the protagonist is practically a cardboard cut out who is good at everything. It is my opinion that this book showcases every weakness in this author's writing style.
For clarity, the basic introduction to the book, is that the MC summons succubi into his home, and he's so good at sex that they decide to defy the demon commander of hell, likely meaning certain death. That's already far fetched...
But every character in this book has a personality defined entirely by one physical feature of their form. MC - has a dick His best friend - He's an imp Both succubi - Are beautiful
I realize this is definitely a novel for people of sexual interests.. but there's just nothing there, man. They don't do anything that's not strictly missionary, and the plot when they're not having sex is so bland as to barely exist at all. Fundamental issues with their way of life go entirely unaddressed, They are very rude, garish customers and everyone loves them for it. To some extent this could be explained by hand waving "succubus powers", but even before the succubus are introduced, there's large substantial issues in how communication between two people works as a whole.
Basically, I kinda feel like I only have myself to blame for opening this one after reading the Summoner series. (Which is better, but has the same issues.)
Eric Vall writes an impressive number of books. This is likely due to the fact that he follows a painfully predictable formula every time he starts a new series. Boring, plain MC gains powers, is adored by gorgeous naive girls who want nothing more than to have sex with him, they fight some powerful enemy, more to come. Padded by a boatload of incredibly boring and useless scenes that don’t really serve to keep the plot rolling. Not that the plot is much better once you’ve read it before in one of the dozens of other harem books that he writes.
Eric claims this book is far raunchier than his other works but I beg to differ after reading the first book of Building Haremtown. The sex scenes are boring, lack passion, very few and far between for being one of the books main plot points, and unrealistic. Unrealistic is fine most times but two succubi falling for some random human and claiming he’s the best they’ve ever had in their thousands of years of living is laughable. Jacob is a Mary Stu written for plain dudes who want to self insert. If that’s what you like then pick this book up, but I doubt you’ll be compelled to finish the series.
Eric, if you want to write smut, just do it. Don’t make us sit through chapter after chapter of the book equivalent of a badly acted adult video.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
When the author said raunchy I was expecting things that even hentai would hesitate to draw, sadly it didn't go that far but it does have some sexy scenes along with pretty funny characters that didn't need to have an existential crisis before they adapted to demons being real and such. It was a change of pace from other series that needed their main characters to be slow and dull before they become exciting as these guys just get up and go.
It a fun concept which could work great but the execution is sloppy with plenty of inconstancy, so much so i question if anyone proof read it and plenty of statements that are plain incorrect. ie alternator starting a car which a simple google search will tell you is wrong (o and some spelling errors)
So I've held off starting this series while contemplating if I wanted to start a new series with the others I've been reading. Should have started this sooner!
Fun, entertaining and full of humour, awesome magic, sexy succubi and exciting battles against the forces of hell!
It's a book for people who like recreational drugs and generally doing very little except hanging out. You've got to be in the humour for it and I wasn't. Two very laidback young adults summon succubi, time for lots of sex and and fun! That's about it. I made it about 40 pages in before I stopped reading.
2 stars, I had some issues with the plot and characters of this book. I was not into this book. I did not really like the MC and secondary characters were not that great either. I have liked other books by this author so this is not his best work. I will not be continuing with this series.
Make no mistake, although a fun read, too much happens in the story over a brief span of days and there are waaaayyyyy too many inconsistencies for my tastes.
ook is a solid 3 star. Incredibly average harem literature. Rating it 1 star in the hope that kindle will then stop recommending me books from thos author....
If you're a proud teenage geek and have a shelf full of figurines, you'll probably love this book.
For everyone else it's a disappointing attempt at a harem fantasy novel, riddled with juvenile humor and shallow storytelling. I kept waiting for it to be funny like the reviews said, but those reviews are from the proud geeks above. The writing feels like it was crafted for 14-year-olds imagining what it's like having adult experiences, where even mundane things—like drinking champagne—are treated as mind-blowing revelations. In 2019 the best suite at a Vegas casino is $250 at the lobby. Everything is like that.
This immaturity extends to the succubi themselves, who are supposedly thousands of years old but act like clueless teenagers experiencing the modern world for the first time. Instead of being seductive, experienced, and cool—as succubi are traditionally portrayed—they’re reduced to a fish-out-of-water subplot that undermines their allure.
The premise is equally frustrating. In thousands of years, no rich or powerful man has ever used these succubi to show them a good time? This loser is their apex male? This lack of plausibility makes the world-building feel lazy and nonsensical. The protagonist, who is bland and unremarkable, simply describes what’s happening during the sex scenes without any passion or creativity, making them dull and forgettable.
Todd, the protagonist’s best friend, is particularly unbearable. He’s like a crude version of a Bill and Ted character with the charm of a Dumb or Dumber character. Always stoned, rude, and crude, Todd sucks the joy out of every scene he’s in and adds nothing to the story except irritation.
Overall, Succubus Lord fails to deliver on its premise as an erotic harem novel or a compelling fantasy story. The characters are shallow, the humor is juvenile, and the sex scenes are uninspired. Skip this one unless you’re looking for an exercise in frustration. If you want a cool succubus character, read the Daniel Faust series.
This is a harem light novel style book. It's not supposed to be a masterpiece or super well written. It's a fun quick read for those who enjoy magic/demon fights and harems of demon women falling for the main character. In that regard, it's exactly what I want. The harem elements are there of course but surprisingly, the fight scenes are also fun to read. I wish I could give it 4 stars but there's one big problem that lost it a whole star and that's Todd.
I can overlook a lot of the other cliches, the bad references, the going to Vegas, the constant grinning everyone does despite being in mortal danger, the women loving shopping, ect but there's one trope I can't stand and it's the "best friend is a tiny imp/fairy/human/sprite and acts like it's a badass but in reality it's just useless and pathetic". In this case we have Todd, who is an imp who acts like he's in charge and a badass (including cliches such as "I'll use my karate on you look at my crane stance"). He constantly says things that makes it seem like Jacob is his loyal follower despite causing endless trouble for him. I realize it's supposed to be a funny trope but it's just annoying. I hated Todd, he's a terrible friend who used his half of rent to buy a book and cares more about his car and weed than his friends. On top of that he's constantly talking about how hot he is or how smart but just gets in the way with his stupid weed jokes. On top of that he's super homophobic, selfish and sexist (ironic in a harem story but at least Jacob has consent where Todd actively makes women feel uncomfortable in an object kind of way including wolf whistles and forcing them to run around naked). I hated Todd so much that if he was killed off I would give this book 5 stars.
OK, I tried... I really tried. I got through Succubus Lord 13, hoping against hope that somehow things would change, but it only got worse.
I usually love Eric Vall. You can tell by all the 4-5 stars I have given other books.
On the surface this series should have been good except for a few things.
First off the writing was fairly poor, especially this first book. An AI could have written it better.
The power growth is totally unbelievable. Why the women think the MC can defeat century old demons makes no sense and the fact that he can defeat them is even more unbelievable.
But the most egregious issue is Todd. This horrid character gives this book -594937468 stars. While he is supposed to be like Shaggy from scoobby doo, he is more like a homophobic cross between Jar Jar Binks and Scrappy Doo. Anytime Todd is in the scene he sucks all the life out of it. His jokes aren't even in the same universe as funny. He is disingenuous and obtuse and those are his good points.
Never have I wanted a character to die off as bad as I wanted Todd to meet the grim reaper in the first book. But NO... he lives and gets more annoying in each book.
Two best friends buy a Vatican book of summoning and dark magic and use it to summon/make a wish list to Lilith, the Succubbi Chief and "poof" two Succubi show up and make all of their dreams come true. The Succubi were pursued by a Demon, so they do everything possible to evade his attacks and summon him back to hell. Because of their efficiency, an Angel, asks them to do this for the heck of it, without any compensation or purpose...and this first volume is the start of this Fantasy-novel series. It is short, with not much character or world development, with a lot of pop culture references and sexual innuendos, and even though main characters are with succubi all of the time, they are seldomly having sex...(which is unexpected). Plot lines are way to simple and demons working for the Angels, is kind of anticlimactic and contrary to their nature. The two main characters are not really that evil, and the succubi are demons that charm and manipulate humans but, author did a 180 degrees on that one...
I judged a book by its cover and I was right! This book was actually a ton of fun. Friendship, tons of action, just the right amount of plot to suspend disbelief, very cool magic theory (I like when magic has rules) and fun characters. I like the group dynamic and the plot. What geek doesn't want to turn a bad girl good, after she shows him all her naughty secrets? There's demon Lords, gambling, reefer and public nudity. The sex is actually tasteful and not too graphic. I actually really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next!
To be honest - and who am I to criticize the art of someone else - this book felt a bit flat. One dimensional. I liked the plot idea. This thrashy wishful thinking that become realty, advancing the main character from a looser to a hero while battling the Princes of Hell,... a day after getting his new powers. Ehm, nah. Not gonna happen. And if so, it feels cheap and boring. There is not much satisfaction in a win, if the struggle to get their wasnt on the way. Something the author didnt really sell to me.
Unfortunatley, wont continue reading this series. Not mine. But I liked Todd!
