Chloe Fine #3

Cul de Sac

Rate this book

FBI special agent Chloe Fine, 27, needs to delve into a suburban world of cliques, gossip and lies, seeking to solve the murder of an apparently perfect mother and wife, just on the night of the 20 years of his high school class.

Old friends from school, now almost 40, returned to the same small town to raise their children, creating the same cliques that divided them twenty years before. The 20-year graduation meeting brings back old memories, resentments, betrayals and secrets, bringing all the pain back, a generation later. That same night, the former queen of the gang is found murdered in her home.

In this well-kept and seemingly perfect city, the past hunts for the present — and everyone becomes a suspect.

Can Chloe Fine solve the case — while battling the demons of her own past and with the real possibility of seeing her own father get out of jail?

A psychological thriller full of emotion with robust characters, in a small-town environment that accelerates the heart. BECO SEM EXIT is book 3 of a fascinating new series that will make you read pages and pages into the night.

Book 4 of the CHLOE FINE series will be available soon.

I thought this was pretty decent! I liked Chloe's character and how protective she was over her twin sister, Danielle. Good sibling relationships are always so nice to read about :')

However, I'm not really a fan of how they arrested the murderer.

Also— as nearly everybody else has mentioned— Blake Pierce either a) didn't get an editor or b) really needs a new one. I understand one or two words slipping through the cracks, but this many? Some sentences didn't make much sense, either.

The book does end on a little cliffhanger. The main plot is solved, but a subplot takes a sharp turn just as the book is ending, getting you all hyped up for book #4. It didn't bother me, but if you absolutely hate any and all cliffhangers, beware.

2...I, at least finished it, BUT Fine is not for me! The dramatics in her personal life largely outweighs the cases...which is a shame because I liked her sister, but come on...

I was privileged to be given an advanced copy for review.

This is the 3rd book of this series and it just keeps getting better and better with each new story. Chloe Fine has the makings for a really fine profiler and problem solver and she shows her capabilities in both her professional capacity and her personal life in this physiological thriller.

In this outing agents Fine and Moulton are assigned to a murder case where a husband found his wife stabbed to death. You would think that the local police should be able to handle a single murder but the victim's father has a political connection, so the FBI is called in. Just when Moulton and Fine are finally making some progress, Moulton is recalled to headquarters. He has been a bad boy and Chloe is at odds with her feelings for him. In the meantime her sister Danielle, who has had her own problems, calls Chloe crying and is in need of help.

Mr. Pierce has given his readers many threads to follow in book 3....Chloe's father is out of prison....she is assigned a new partner Agent Rhodes who we met previously and a killer on the loose. I can't wait for book 4, Silent Neighbor, which will be released in July.

Pierce brought another suspense to life. Agree with othet readers in reference to proofreader could have done a better job with the mix up of characters name, time line and grammar however a reader can correct and continue a good book with a couple of curbs.

Looking forward to what Adrain Fine is up to.

Listened to audiobook through Hoopla. It moved along quickly enough, but it seemed like three or four unconnected and not very compelling stories that had no real puzzle to any of them. The FBI agents Moulton and Fine seem kind of naive, too, driving up to a murder scene and saying something like, “I don’t look forward to going in here.” Um, really? I don’t understand all the high marks for this.

Too Much Like Book 2, Lots Going On, No Depth!

This third installment fell flat, had little character development, and followed a superficial plotline. Ugh!

This FBI procedural was mildly entertaining at best, as more time is spent on Chloe's backstory of family and love interests that the murder she's supposed to be solving plays a supporting role. Chloe's character still lacks depth and interest as we follow her disorganization and overreactions to everything going on in her life.

I don't care for cliffhanger questions not answered until the next book that feel more like a soap opera than a meaningful investigative series. These are short novels that feel strung out, without enough substance amid so much distracting activity.

Chloe's first-person account might be okay for a mindless and forgettable read, but I'm not sensing anything really new here. I bought the whole series as a package deal and halfway through the six books, I'm feeling lots of buyer's remorse.

I fear these short reads follow a formulaic structure of repetition and worn out plotlines. The storytelling nears mediocrity with surprise trick endings to the murders that get tied up too quickly, so we can get back to the underlying family drama.

I've got three more books to go, and I'm hoping for something more substantial and less redundant. This book gets a C- rating, or 2.5 stars.

Audible's narration helped make my reading experience more bearable. Whew!

An interesting enough crime story, but what really bugging me is the detail of the age of the victim... they say it was their 20 yr high school reunion, and they have an 18 yr old daughter who was born when the main character was 19, so all that checks out. Her friends are described as being around 40. But at the end, why are they looking for people age 28-30 at the bar to identify one of their hs classmates, and it’s a 2009-10 yearbook mentioned in the culmination with the killer. It feels like the editor didn’t do a great job catching something that the author maybe changed mid-stream?

This was one of those books that you read where you reach the end and can't really decide if you liked it or not. Chloe is with the FBI. When she was a young child, her father was sent to prison for murdering her mother. This was what inspired her to become an agent. Now her father is getting out and she's not sure how to handle it. In the meantime she has a murder to solve involving a twenty year class reunion that produces a whole list of suspects. In addition, she learns her partner, Moulton, may be suspended for something he did in the past.

With her life in turmoil, Chloe does her best to keep it together and bring a killer to justice.

As I said, I had mixed emotions about this one. The plot was ok although rather slow moving but I wasn't impressed with the characters. Not sure I'll continue the series.

Fantastic

As this series of books progress the psychological aspects of its main characters progress along side the individual story of each book.
In a rich clique neighbourhood murder occurs. Is it tied to the husband and something from present day or is tied to their past. The murder occurs just after a school reunion and the cliques from school are still in evidence today no matter how hard they try to hide it. Through in the Fine sister's father who had just been released from prison for being involved in their mother's murder and you have a book that keeps you reading till the end and still wanting more

Disappointed...but rated as a fair read

The theme and plot was pretty good. My issue was with the misspelled words, the grammar and the use of the wrong characters name. In one sentence the author indicated that Chloe was with her partner Moulton instead of her partner Rhoads. I wanted to put the book down several times because I felt as though the author dropped the ball on his professional writing. Needless to say, I did enjoy the continued Chloe Fine theme and the plot was good. It kept my attention and I was able to move beyond the misspellings, grammatical errors and the naming of the wrong characters last name.

A husband comes home to find his wife a been brutally murdered. The local police needs help with solving the crime and reach out to the FBI. Chloe Fine is called in to investigate the case. During the investigation she finds out the victim recently attend a high school reunion. After talking to her friends and people from school, she finds out the the victim was a mean girl in high school and did horrible things to her peers, which gives them all motive to kill her.Chloe is also dealing with family drama while trying to solve the case. However, this doesn’t stop her from being dedicated to closing this case and putting the murderer in jail.

I’m getting attached to the Fine sisters as I continue to read! The first three in this series are similar, but pretty good! I wish there was more suspense. I’m missing the personal connection and plot twists from other detective stories I’ve read. The first of these novels had that element but I feel it was poorly executed. I still thoroughly enjoy the series though!

In this one, the motive was revenge. The first two had been sexual in nature. This was a nice change. Slightly predictable but Chloe’s character has developed a lot since the first book! I just want her to fall in love. And I miss Moulton. Hopefully he comes back.

Enjoying the series, not enjoying the typos 🙁

Wondering where it all leads for Chloe.
Enjoying her cases and family life.
The typos, although not as many as previous book, are still frustrating - I found 9 errors this time - see notes (It drives me nuts!!)
Have preordered next book though 👍

Why do authors feel like everytime there is a female/male partners there must be romance? I did not like that part of the book because cmon, lets show they can be professional and not make out!
Otherwise I was ok with the story but I have not read the others so maybe I am missing a part of the relationship. I would try the author again though!

Adorei! Foi uma ótima companhia nesta tarde de domingo.

Tenho estado vidrada neste autor.
Recomendo vivamente!

Reunion

Chloe is as good as ever in this book. She keeps you on your toes and you can feel her thoughts and emotions. There are a couple places after her partner was replaced where they mixed up names and for a second was confusing but easy to realize what happened.

I’m a fan of Blake Pierce’s stories and just read the first 3 books of the Chloe Fine series over the last two days. As a lover of reading series I love quick book releases. However, are there beta readers? Someone should be catching the typos. Spell check does not replace proofreading.

Great series so far, I don’t like what the author did to Chloe’s partner and I hope they have a reunion. Chloe finds out her dad’s worse than she thought.

Terrible editing of this book, numerous mistakes

I didn’t guess at all who the killer was. I felt impatient at the slow progress of the case and didn’t appreciate the distractions of other issues not related to the main story. Having said that, the last part was better than the first.

You have to Read

Once again I was drawn into a Chloe Fine book by Blake Pierce and could not out it down. He is causing me to lose sleep and drinking lots of cups of coffee reading another crime drama that once again surprised me with a great ending and desire to read more.

Someone really needs to proofread. Characters are are mentioned that don't even have parts in the book. Characters listed as the same person, and referring to people that aren't even in the the room that they are talking in.

Reunions can be fun or at least interesting. Small towns all seem to have their secrets and a dark underside. They all come together in this book!

I was disappointed the smaller plot lines didn't develop and cross into a more complex story.
