Kidnapped from her doorstep in return for information, Rain finds herself miles from home in the middle of the ocean, on a pirate ship full of criminals and ex-cons. Escaping with her life is the least of her worries when the captain insists she stay in his room, in his bed, by his side, always. He’s her captor, but with sweet gestures come blurred lines. And hatred, a passionate emotion, can morph into things not to be said aloud or even thought. The captain is a bad man, and unfortunately for Rain, he wants her to be bad too.
A. E. Murphy is the Queen of sarcasm and satire, she likes long walks in the park, as much as ice cubes like to chill in a roasting oven. She’s effortlessly independent and so good at adulting it’s unfair on the rest of the world. She only napped twice today and has only avoided the dishes for three days before making the child slaves do them this morning. Winning! Her favourite hobby is writing, her worst hobby is reading through that writing. Also she has two cats that carry toys to the top of the stairs and drop them down so they can chase them. They do this repeatedly in the middle of the night. Who cares if she has work the next morning? Not the cats, that’s for sure. And if it’s not the cats doing the waking, it’s the toddler crawling into bed with her and pulling individual hairs from her scalp with pudgy little fingers for comfort. This is likely why she’s in a constant state of grump unless there’s chocolate and coffee. P.S. Please leave feedback, if not on the book then on this ridiculous bio she wrote herself. It’s the least you can do seeing as she’ll forever talk in the third person now. Alex loves her readers. Alex says thank you. Alex smiles.
Back in 2016 I read Broken and Connected by this author. I was impressed by the books and her writing. I have absolutely no idea why I’ve waited so long to read something else by her. But nearly three years later here I am.
This review is very short because I need to move on to the second book. This ends on a cliffhanger and things are not as they appear. Rain made the wrong decision in the end and I could kick her for it. She was also annoying.
There’s a situation with the Captain but I’m not buying it.
Hopefully you’ll get a better review for the next book.
Update: the author was nice enough to clarify it for me.

So someone wrote that what’s in my spoiler might not be true. That apparently In book 2 you find out that he made her think he did but he really didn’t.
I’m going to hold off on my rating until I find out the truth. The rage post remains until I can find out for sure 😡🤬
😵😳🔪🚬💊🍷🍸 okay so yeah reading this story had me do all that in that order. so look listen i typically don't do reviews i just communicate through stars most times, no no no i have a lot to say about this story. now look i don't know if i developed stockholm syndrome in the process of reading this book but......by the end i was mad pissed at the victim!!! yes you heard me right. 😑 this girl was mad exhausting like they should've been killed her, straight up had made her walk the plank child. yup i said it. 😆😆 captain was so scrumptious! i mean lick your fingers after a meal scrumptious. ugh it's so much i want to say and im usually super generous with spoilers but seriously read this can book! it does end on a cliff which sucks because I'm scared captain isn't going to be as main of a fixture in the second one.....😤😢😳😬😱 and that sends me into a depression ( I wish I was joking 😩 ) I've never had a book boyfriend hangover. and my final note is rain can kick rocks and i hope nialal or whatever the hell his name is gives her aids and herpes. 😁 i love this author!
Let me preface this, I, like most of you, read a lot of books. Like ~200/yr. This author's books are SO WELL WRITTEN! I'm never like "yea... that's not how this would really go... even with a modern day PIRATE novel! She's great. Loved the character depth. There is some insta love on the hero's side, but I have a feeling it will be explained. This one is not told in a dual pov. Read it. This author's name deserves to get out there.
Wow,intensely heated, unique addictive characters and storyline with an air of intrigue and mystery. It is part one of a series and is not a cliff but does leave you wondering and yearning for more .AE Murphy, please tell me part two is in the works?!
I had an email come from from amazon saying you had a new book out... turns out it was a preorder for this one and you Know what? It was an amazing read! Pirates, steamy love scenes, scheming behind the eyes on both sides... I can’t wait for book 2
Wow!! Talk about heart stopping adventure! I don’t know if I love or hate the H but I certainly can’t get enough of him!! This book felt like the old times had met with the new to create a whole new genre. I can’t wait for the next book and will be begging for a sneak peak!!!
Almost 5 stars, however, it ends in a cliffhanger and there is nothing I hate more than a story that ends in ... Hard time understanding the h, because as a reader I had the info on the H but what would I have done if I did not have it, probably something very close to what she does
Ok so this was my first read by this Author who I actually met at a signing recently and this was the book I picked to read of hers first and wow I was not disappointed one bit while reading! I demolised every word in a few hours not putting the book down at all... I mean what's not to love with a story full of angst.. lies.. suspense and an alpha Captain of a boat full of modern day Pirates??? So Rain is kidnapped at the very start of the story and is taken away on the boat while awaiting for her ransom to be paid.. but all is not as it seems when she comes into contact with Captain! Captains world is turned upside down when he meets his captor... shes not what he thought she would be. The story takes a twist when Rain manages to get in touch with home and it ends with her feeling very confused with all that is happening and what she truly wants. Fab characters..fab different storyline.. fab writing! I'm so glad I read this when book 2 was already out as I'm ready to jump into that one straight away to see what's next for guys!
well for the first book of 2019 i am hook line and sinker. A.E.Murphy is a new author to me and by damn this book is already on of my top ten reads. i started this today nd couldnt put the book down. i already miss rain and captain and look forward to reading the second instalment. best book by far well written and well planned book.
if i could mark this book higher than 5. i would have to be 100 out of 100 I bloody loved it
i loved this book, it kept me glued :D i read it in a few hours. I want her with Calder so bad ,even if yeah their situation was a little ugly at the start, and he had been a d**k at some point, but hey, she totally deserved it in my opinion, she needed to know her real feelings. Now i start part 2, i hope i will keep loving it :p
Kidnapped but modern day pirates. Rain doesn’t know what they want with her boyfriend, but they are holding her for ransom until they get it. The Captain wants to protect her, but he he also has a hidden agenda. Be for warned. Cliffhanger ending...
Wow went in blind with this one got it as I read one of the authors other books and loved it so had to read the rest of her books so glad I did off to read the second one now I love pirate books haven’t read one in a very long while
I have not read a book for nearly 13 weeks till now. Seizing Rain is a different genre for me something new and fresh and I loved it.
This story is full of angst, terror and hot as hell modern day pirates.
Captain turns Rains life upside down, she fears for her life and her sanity throughout this book. I couldn’t put it down always wondering what would happen next. A must read in my eyes x
4.5 ⭐️ Calder is actually perfect and this book started out a little eh for me, but he made me stick around and I’m so happy I did. I devoured this book and started the second one IMMEDIATELY.
Rain is the girlfriend of a detective with something Captain wants. She’s a fierce fighter but even she knows when you just have to roll with the tide and adapt to your surroundings. I think she is my favorite Murphy heroine. There’s one line that had me spitting my coffee all over my phone. I’m not gonna spoil it but I promise, you will know which one.
Calder aka Captain.. O Good God my ovaries were bursting. He’s the Alpha bad boy that every girl wants. The way Murphy describes him..dark curly hair and bright green eyes makes me a happy camper when he’s featured in my dreams (Yep I just typed that).
Murphy is crazy good at making her characters so real and relatable.
When you find an author that can steal your breath, make you throw your phone, cry your eyes out one moment and then laugh so hard you’re not sure if you’re gonna piss your self.. well you hang on tight.
You pimp her and her books to anyone that will listen.
Murphy is absolutely my all time favorite author.. does that make me biased... maybe but I really don’t think so. I’m pretty hard on people so if her books were shit I’d tell ya.. they’re most definitely are not. They are the kind of books you have in your kindle and in paper. They are my go to reads.
The ending...well let’s just say I need the next book ASAP. I’m not gonna put the name of it on here cause I’m afraid it will spoil this story for you.
You need this book.. you need to read this book and get ready for this crazy adventure Murphy is gonna send you on.
Wow went in blind with this one got it as I read one of the authors other books and loved it so had to read the rest of her books so glad I did off to read the second one now I love pirate books haven’t read one in a very long while
Rain gets kidnapped and taken to a pirate ship. There, she meets the Captain, who she finds super attractive and cool. But his crew keeps trying to sexually assault her. Luckily he seems to want to protect her, but just so he can seduce her personally instead.
I felt like this book was just too silly. It’s supposed to be set in 2017 but there’s pirates who act like it’s 1867. Also the Captain is super handsome, young, the captain of a whole ass ship, badass, flirty, basically written like a try-hard perfect hero. It just felt bizarre. Like when tweens write stories about the mafia prince being in high school but he’s also a werewolf but he’s also running from the law but he’s also the literal devil and his name is like Shredder or something and he’s obsessed with the new freshman girl. It was like that but adult version. Gave me second-hand embarrassment.
I was super disappointed because the premise was interesting. The only parts I liked were the spicy scenes where Rain and the Captain smashed. Everything else just made me cringe away.
Other things I didn’t like are that Rain is still really in love with her boyfriend throughout the book even though she’s attracted to Mr. Captain over here. So technically she cheats on her boyfriend the whole time and talks about how he’s her “personal God” but then forgets all that as soon as the Captain walks in. When he leaves her boyfriend’s #1 again magically. Like whoever is in front of her at that exact minute wins. Rain is eventually super betrayed by the Captain hooking up with a prostitute in front of her because she’s humiliated he did it in front of the rest of the crew. Okay.
Wouldn’t keep on my shelf or reread.

This book kept me hooked from the first page to the last. Murphy is a skilled writer and made me fall in love with Calder even though he has many flaws. I also liked the heroine, Rain. I know there's some controversy about some of Calder's behavior and I see it from both sides. It was obvious Calder had very strong feelings for Rain, and while Rain also has feeling for him, she is still harboring feelings for her boyfriend back home, Niall. This is understandable of course, but at the same time I almost felt like she could only be so mad at Calder for doing what he did. She is still supposedly IN LOVE with someone else! She literally had just told Calder he was just a source of comfort to her and nothing more. So yes he overreacted and did something very wrong but it's not like she's innocent and didn't provoke him. On top of that at the end of this book, she looks Calder in the eye and makes a choice reiterating where her heart and alliance lay. So she can't pretend to be so mad. I cannot wait to read book 2.
Rain woke up in a nightmare, she was being taken from her home, from her cop boyfriend, from her very existence. She couldn't fight off these powerful men, and even more so couldn't fight off her hate and attraction to the leader of these bad men.
Calder is rough around the edges and has done bad things but his one reprieve is the very person who he captured.
This story is told from Rain's pov and her weeks on a pirate ship with a not so merry bad of criminals. She doesn't know if what she feels is stockholm syndrome or the real deal but she must get her freedom back....
I couldn't put this down. Danger, passion, steamy chemistry and a grey area between lawless and law abiding. Cannot wait to read book 2 and see if Calder is her destiny or her destruction.

How can you not give this book 5 stars!? Okay so I started reading this and finished it within 2 hours. Not because it was on the shorter side. No, it’s because I literally COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! Why am I team captor!? Uh because it’s Calder..that’s why!!! Hot damn!!! He’s the one I would gladly doodle hearts on my notebook for....yes I know, he kidnapped her 🤷🏻♀️but these two are on fire! Rain and Calder have to be one of my favorites. I felt rains pain, her tears, but I also wanted to grab her and shake her because she left him! Within 3 minutes of finishing this part 1. I ordered part 2. Not even sorry about it....then I realized this is the same Arthur who wrote Vicious (another, couldn’t put it down book)....well no wonder I am completely obsessed!!!

This reminds me of a dark fanfiction I read years ago, so this was super refreshing. It’s complicated and just ugh. I’m glad I went into this mostly blind. It’s pretty short, so I finished it pretty quick. A.E. Murphy just knows how to go THERE doesn’t she? Wow.
