A romantic retelling of a classic fairy tale about a beautiful herbalist and a lovestruck prince.
Shirayuki is an herbalist famous for her naturally bright-red hair, and the prince of Tanbarun wants her all to himself! Unwilling to become the prince’s possession, she seeks shelter in the woods of the neighboring kingdom, where she gains an unlikely ally—the prince of that kingdom! He rescues her from her plight, and thus begins the love story between a lovestruck prince and an unusual herbalist.
Shirayuki begins her duties as a court herbalist apprentice in the castle, but her mentor is a bit odd. He’s quiet, shy, moody and…a child? Her first official duty is to accompany the prince to help quell an illness going around one of the forts that house Clarines soliders. Will she be able to discover the cause of the outbreak in time?
Don't you just love it when characters actually get along and don't have misscommunication, or at least not long enough for it to become uncomfortable? WELL, THEN YOU'LL LOVE THIS MANGA.
I feel kinda bad hyping it up, since there's 17 volumes out in german and first volume in english releases next month, but WHENEVER YOU CAN READ IT, please do! It's incredibly wholesome.
Updated Review 5/31/23: It did not take long for me to quickly remember how much I hated Zen's brother. (SUPER resonated with the creator's Dad saying he hates his guts because #SAME!) Truly, that man boils my blood, and was SO mad seeing his "scheming" going on! I don't care if he is a prince or not, I have no desire to see him again even though I know he'll be back. UGH!
Anyway, I LOVED this volume! I found it deeply refreshing to have a chapter from Zen's perspective (especially in seeing why he loves exploring so much and how it has nurtured his love for his people) and definitely felt myself shipping him and Shirayuki even harder than I was before because of it. I love love love how they inspire one another to give their all and be a person they feel the other would be proud to stand by. <3
I remember deeply loving Obi and so it's interesting being reintroduced to him again and how much of a troublemaker he was in the beginning. Well, maybe troublemaker isn't the right word, but he sure does like to stir things up! LOL!
Once again loving this series so much! Happy to be reading it again!
Original Review 8/21/19: I. Am. Screaming.
THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!
I've hopped on this ship and saying goodbye with no return. They are ADORABLE! Loved their individual stories and how they both build each other up. Just soooooo sweet!
The big brother stinks though. I grumbled so much after finishing because I can't stand him. UGH! He can leave, thank you.
And yay for Obi!! Loved his role in this one! <3
Soooo excited to purchase the third book in a few weeks! *squeals*
Shirayuki's naturally bright-red hair has gotten her into a lot of trouble forcing her to flee to the neighboring kingdom... but fortunately it allowed her to meet the prince of Clarines, Zen! Thus starts a friendship between a most unusual herbalist and a lovestruck prince.
The Premise
Snow White with the Red Hair vol 2 gives a little start in what it means to become an apprentice to a court herbalist! I loves that the first order of business is getting Shirayuki's relationship with her court herbalist Ryu under way. And I adored how Zen interfered! Shirayuki is able to utilize her skills to help the Prince with a sickness outbreak in one of his forts. And the mystery of this was quite good!! I was wondering what it would turn out to be... you aren't give any clues except a certain room is totally empty! Plus a certain prince's older brother returns and decides to play with Zen's new friend. And it isn't pretty for anyone...
The Buzz
So Prince Izana is probably who you're dying to know more about from Snow White with the Red Hair vol 2! It's all really hush, hush as he arrives and you can tell that this guy is cut from an entirely different cloth from Zen. I wasn't sure what to expect and was really surprised by how Zen handled his brother. It's not what I was expecting and I found it really intriguing. Actually Shirayuki goes the more typical reaction to such high handed men and I really appreciated that... But Isana is NOT a nice person and didn't like that the new court apprentice didn't treat him how he thought he ought to be treated. So some nastiness is in store for our red haired Snow White!
The Feels
GAHHHHH I love the characters in this series. They are the best part of the story and our new court herbalist is adorable!! We learn a little about him and then there are also bonus pages about him in the back. I can't wait to see more interaction with Shirayuki and how their working relationship changes and morphs. We also learn a little more about the bodyguard's relationship with Zen. And Shirayuki and Zen's mysterious retainer also do some odd sort of bonding. Oh, oh and the boys at the fort are so sweet too. I loved their relationship with Zen. Snow White with the Red Hair vol 2 certainly has some tension with the politics but it's also has a iyashikei slice of life nature to it that balances really well.
The Visuals
The chapter pages of Snow White with the Red Hair vol 2 were sooooooo good! The detail is incredible and actually I would love if they were available as character art. There is this masterful use of white space too that just kills me when I see it. The paper version is of course way, way superior!! I am not kidding when I say that a digital copy will not cut it for this series... you will find the beauty of the art is in the use of space and you don't get the feel of that as well unless you hold the book in your hands. (I checked with vol 1 and really, it's soooo gorgeous!)
Snow White with the Red Hair vol 2 adds a ton more tension with the super extreme Prince Izana, more than I thought this sweet iyashikei shoujo manga could bear, but it really is quite delicious... Come on now, you've got to meet Ryu too... you won't regret it!!
The one shot at the back of Snow White with the Red Hair vol 2 is another cute little story that melts your heart. I can see that Sorata Akizuki's strength is for sure her ability to develop strong relationships between characters. This is one of the hardest skills to develop in short stories but she nails it time and time again.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity ⋆ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension ⋆ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art
Thanks to Edelweiss and VIZ Media for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. It has not influenced my opinions.

I liked this volume even more than the first! My favorite character in this series is Obi, so I enjoyed seeing more of him in this volume.
I love how Zen behaves towards Shirayuki! She can rely on him, but he also trusts her to make her own decisions! Their relationship is genuinely one of my favorites!
This series is very clean, and the romance is cute and wholesome! I recommend reading this series or watching the anime!
Most of this volume was more of what I love so much about this story. Two adorable sweet people falling in love. But the last chapter brings in Zen's older brother, who is kind of a jerk. I could understand why he's worried but he doesn't need to be a jerk about it. I watched all of the anime, so I know how it plays out. I still don't like him right now.
This storyline is much more streamlined then in the first volume, and I got a better grasp of the characters and not just because I’ve seen this far of the anime. I really like Ryu and that, as a mentor, he’s a kid—I love it when authors and mangakas flip tropes on their heads like this!
The story just keeps getting better and better (the fort section is my favorite part of this volume), and Zen and Shirayuki are so cute together yet push each other to be better by just inspiring each other, and I love that! 🥰🥰 Mitsuhide, Kiki, and Obi are all amazing too, and I can’t wait to see and hear more about them! Prince Izana though…we can just go shove him off a cliff right now. What an incorrigible jerk! I already hate him!!!!! 😡😡
There’s another one shot is at the end of this volume like the first one titled Connect Us, and while okay it did make me tear up when the main character realized he had never been in the way of his friends after all.
Looking forward to the next volume even if prince jerk face is there…
‼️Content‼️
Language: what the heck; geez; damn
Violence: a sword fight; characters have some scratches on their faces and hands
Sexual: a suggestive comment is made towards a girl
Other: a character has a written record of having poisons tested on him for future resistance; some soldiers get sick
I read this volume earlier today and I can say that the series is getting better with each volume. I love the dynamic between Shirayuki and Zen their friendship is beautiful and I can't wait to see if their friendship will escalate into something more. We meet Zen's brother in this volume the elder prince and he is terrible I think he's going to be a thorn in their side in later volumes. Other than that I would say this volume just as entertaining and cute as the first one. I'm excited to continue on.
First of all, I really liked the Laxdo fort arc cause we get to see Shirayuki coming more into her own and on top of that, we get to see Zen and Shirayuki getting closer which was really sweet!!
But...there's a new antagonist, a bigger, badder wolf than Marquis Haruka and I'm really so curious to see how things will develop from here (cause I've actually forgotten much of the stuff in the early chapters lol).
On a different note, the oneshot included at the end was really bittersweet and brings out the poignancy in the mangaka's works.
Podobne cechy posiada Zen. To jeden z najlepiej napisanych bohaterów.
Podczas czytania poznajemy jeszcze kilka nowych postaci.
Moim zdaniem to świetny pomysł.
Nie byłabym oczywiście też sobą, gdybym jeszcze nie wspomniała o ślicznym stylu rysowania Soraty Akiduki.
Kreska niesamowicie przypadła mi do gustu i pasuje do historii.
The more I read of this series, the more I like it. This volume stands out for me because we really get to understand Zen a bit more (wow, he's got an awful family dyanamic. That brother!) Sweet and wholesome, the story is starting to take form and I'm continuing to like what I see.
I'm not sure why it took me so long to track down the second book in this series, but I'm definitely glad I did. I think it's because the first volume started out a little slow. My advice? Keep going. It's worth getting into.
love Shirayuki and Zen to see together or separately!! i want to know the reasons behind how Zen’s friends became this much loyal to him and get along with him good in the next volumes. the characters are funny and adorable.
i know Zen’s brother is just being worried about his little brother bringing some strange girl into the palace and casually hanging out with her but he’s not doing it in the right way.
I really enjoyed the stories in this volume, even more than in Volume 1. However, I still have a similar complaint in that it is still difficult to tell what is happening in some of the action panels (mostly with those that are zoomed in on a sword or a person's hand, foot, etc.). But aside from that, a very fun read!
Content: • Violence – some people are being poisoned, a fight with swords, man cut by a sword
I am still unsure if I'll continue the series...I like small parts of this story so far. It feels like a less interesting version of Yona so far. I want to like this. So so much. But I'm struggling with the relationships between the characters. I feel like everything moved so fast. We will see, I think I will give it one more volume before I decide for sure.
Vol 1 wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be, but I like to give manga series up to at least vol 3 /4 before I make a firm decision to continue or not. While the storyline didn't drastically improved I found I wasn't as bored as I was during vol 1 and with the introduction to a new character I'm very curious to see what happens next!
I enjoyed this one much more than the first one. Good characters being made interesting. Strong willed characters and entertaining ones. Ryu is a fave of mine thus far. I enjoyed the main character’s ‘career’ buildup.
I loved this volume so much. The way Zen loves Shirayuki, without her even realizing it, is so adorable. I love them and all the rest of the characters so much. Maybe not his big brother though? I mean, he’s hot, but kinda scary. I mean, I’m in to it though. 🤭🥵😂
Loved this volume! Zen and Shirayuki's relationship keeps blooming sweetly, we got more Obi, more Kiki and Mitsuhide and a tad bit of conflict. Looking forward to the next ones!
