The Road to GraphQL is your personal journey to master pragmatic GraphQL in JavaScript. The book is full with applications you are going to build along the way with React.js and Node.js. Afterward, you will be able to implement full-stack JavaScript applications.
Robin Wieruch is a german software engineer and freelancer located in Berlin. In the recent years he has gained experiences in single page applications which use Ember, Angular and React. He is a full-time JavaScript developer, is doing his best to teach students on his blog and strives to learn something new every day himself.
It’s a good book to learn GraphQL, especially in the context of React.
It doesn’t go very deep, but does few very important things:
1. It walks you through how you would implement the client (and its state management) without Apollo 2. It shows you how to use Apollo, making you appreciate the magic behind it 3. It shows you how to build a backend in node.js
The whole series “The Road to” is great and I highly recommend it if you want to learn React/GraphQL.
Robin writes in a very clear way and use a lot of good examples to explain the topics he is talking about.
I have no experience with GraphQL and had not yet the opportunity to try it beyond this book, but I am sure I will return to this book when I use GraphQL in the future. I has a lot of good examples with different approaches for client and server side. The more exciting technology for me, explained by Robin, was Apollo.
I am an avid follower of Robin's blog and I highly recommend you to be as well.
