I thought that some of the exposure therapy ideas in this book made for terrible advice, and this reaffirmed why I never went to a therapist and insisted on working through my problems on my own. However, this book is excellent overall, offering a clear and simple framework for understanding the disorder and laying out clear plans for how people can take action through CBT, ERP, and ACT approaches. The book also includes short sections on medications and on pursuing therapy, but the workbook can be used by itself or in conjunction with formal treatment.

This book de-mystifies OCD treatment, and gives sufferers and family members the information that they need to understand how OCD works and how they can combat it without making it worse. This book also never reads like a dry, impersonal medical text, but includes the author's compassionate voice and his calm, clear understanding of OCD and logical ways of approaching a disorder that defies logic. Reading this made me appreciate him as a person and value his work on behalf of OCD patients, and even though I disagree with some of his ERP application ideas for some sub-types and think that there are better alternatives, this is a great book overall.

The author clearly understands the experience of having OCD and how to escape from its clutches. In an easy to read conversational style, he lays out a path to free yourself, by reducing the power of OCD to dominate your life. What is unique about this book is that the reader is not simply given good information, and then left alone to take the challenging steps to get better.

Instead, author Scott Garnet clearly intends to stay with you for the journey. Together, you are on a team; the author is your guide and coach who will accompany you as you move through each step. He’s got your back. He won’t desert you if you want to turn back, get stuck behind an obstacle, or lose confidence you can make it.

From his decades of clinical experience, Scott Garnet knows this terrain; he has trekked this path so many times before that he knows every stretch in detail. He knows about, that hard part up ahead and how often people want to turn back there and he knows the tricky patch, which comes later when people often feel overwhelmed and anxious. This sort of thing happens in one form or another to most everybody and when it does the author will help you understand what’s going on, reassure and encourage you and help you find ways to take a smaller step or a different approach to keep moving forward. He has almost unlimited creative ideas for overcoming obstacles!
.
Like all good coaches, Scott G knows you will succeed if you persist, he knows how tough the challenge is and he has great methods! Highly recommend this guide.

I received this complimentary copy of THE COMPLETE OCD WORKBOOK
from Callisto Publishing.

One of my friends who is OCD scanned it with me and then I went through it so as to give a proper review. This book is a phenomenal workbook where a person with OCD not only begins to truly understand the reasons for their behavior, and also ways and means to counteract the behavior. Since I have been in the recovery for addiction, I was impressed with the all of the examples and stories provided which helped me see how the particular methods might work for a person with OCD.

My friend with OCD was particularly impressed with the ERP (Emotional and Response Prevention) information. In addition, realizing that her OCD was not "caused" by childhood trauma per se, that was another relief for her. Being able to change her core beliefs was also another value of the ERP information.

Another value of the book is being able to answer questions about what the information just read. It allows for gathering one's thoughts, determining what works and doesn't work individually, and then writing it down. If/When a review of that section takes place, being able to see how one's thinking has changed or stayed pretty much the same, can be profitable.

Mr. Granet knows about which he speaks. His vast experience and knowledge is of benefit to those with OCD. My friend experiencing OCD as well as my own experience with addiction, allows us to highly recommend purchase of this book as a valuable resource.

As someone who has suffered from OCD since childhood, this is a book I couldn't resist. It really has helpful tips and activities to help relieve the stress and deal with some of the symptoms. And to help identify things. I really recommend it.
I love how it brings in cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy. Because sometimes that is what we need to conquer our symptoms. But taken one step at a time. I may not ever be free of symptoms but I can at least deal with them constructively or work on handling them better with tips in this book.
Very well written and easy to understand.

I did get to read this for free through the Callisto Publisher's Club but the opinions here are based on my own experience.

it's pretty good. was stuck on it for a while, trying to do the exercises before continuing. later realised that I should probably just read it first, maybe tasks would become clearer. and they did. a nice overview of available techniques. definitely recommend

(I will revisit the contents of the book many times in the next couple months I'm sure)
